FileVault cleanup without logging out

Please help me clean up space (i have deleted tons of files and emptied the trash) without logging out from the account.
Will "hdiutil compact [path to your account's sparse image]" work from a 2nd active account? The account I want to clean up is "/Users/DS/" what would be the path to my sparse image?
Or am i on the wrong path here?
Regards,
Peter Brage

Yes, its supposed to happen every time you log out. You can skip it, too its easier you do it every time you log out as if you keep on skipping it and one day decide to not skip it will take some time to free the space. So its easier if you just every time you log out click "Continue" and let File-Vault do its thingy =)

  • Switching Users without Logging out on Snow Leopard

I want to be able to move from one account to another without logging out of either account.  however, when i go to system preferences and click the button for show fast user switching, nothing happens, and when i go back into system preferences it is no longer checked.
    How do I do this?

The option is grayed out and can't be changed until you click the lock and enter an admin password.

  • HOW TO LOCK ACCOUNT WITHOUT LOGGING OUT?

does anybody know how can i do to lock the account without having to log out from it?
im also having problems finding one of the simbols for the quick keys options, like for example force to quit, from the keyboard? the firt key what is it? im looking for that symbol all over the keyboard..

What do you want to lock out, the screen or the keychain?
If you want to lock out just the keychain, you can do this though keychain access. In it you can add the menu item to the menu to be able to lock it whenever you want or you can set an idle time to lock the specified keychain whenever it's idle.
If you want to just lock the screen, you can do this through security in your system preferences. Just select require password from sleep or screen saver.

  • Force end of session when user closes window without logging out

I want to protect sensitive employee data. Does anyone know how to force a user's portal session to be terminated after a user closes a window with the "X" instead of logging out?

Web application is connectionless. So there is no way to tell if a user has disconnected. If the user diligently logout, then invalidating a session is no problem. However, if you wish to invalidate the user upon closing of window, I suggest you drop that idea and change to different approach.
    1. If you are trying to impose single logon policy, you may consider invalidate an existing session if the same user login again.
    2. If you really need to invalidate a user session as soon as he is inactive (or closes window). I suggest you set a very small timeout interval (maybe 3 minutes). Then for all the pages, implement a simple invisible IFRAME that will keep refreshing itself (say every 2 minutes) on a dummy JSP/servlet URL. The fact that this IFRAME always hit the URL at 2 mins interval will keep the user session valid. Once the browser window is closed, the session will be invalidated in max 3 mins time.
The final suggestion is to drop that idea altogether, the point is ... implement such feature is like twisting web application to do something that it is not design to do naturally.

  • How to input different values without logging out everytime in OATS

    Hi,
I am new to OATS. I was trying the functional testing of a web application. For this I recorded it by first logged in the application then input some values in a field, submit it and logout. Then i tried to iterate it with different values in the input field, but the problem was that for every iteration it was logging in every time. How can i stop logging in everytime and put the values all in one login. Also can anyone provide me online tutorial for OpenScript used in OATS.

    Hi,
    If you go to
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/oem/downloads/index-084446.html
There is a section for Documentation download. Within this there is the OpenScriptUserGuide.pdf, with full explanations of the technology.
For the iteration with out logging again you have to insert "for" loop.

  • Reboot without logging out other users

    Hi everyone,
let's say there are 2 users currently logged in. One of them wants to reboot due to some reason. 2 choices are now available:
    a) Log in the other user to logout and switch back to the first one in order to reboot.
    b) Provide an admin's name/pw to logout other users automatically.
My question is: What happens technically when going with option b?
Will the other user's apps all be force-quit or will they quit normally unless there are unsaved changes? Or is it even something else?
I'm asking because the second user usually only has Safari, Mail, iCal open so there are no save dialogues when quitting the apps manually and it would save some time to just log him out automatically instead of switching to his account only to log him out. Of course I don't want any unneccessary force-quits to happen due to the fact that prefs won't get saved this way compared to a normal quit.
Hope you get it and thanks!
    Björn

I just did some testing and it really seems to be a force-quit under all circumstances. Knowing that an app's preferences don't get written to disk when doing a force-quit by hand (cmdaltesc) I tried the following:
I left the 2nd user logged in, changed Mail's window position and a setting in TextEdit's preferences. Both settings are stored in their respective plists. I then switched back to the first user, selected to reboot and typed in my admin name and pw. After reboot I saw that the 2ns user's app prefs weren't saved. TextEdit reverted to the settings before my change and Mail showed its window on the last saved position.
Thanks for your input. Seems like it always is a force-quit this way and it's good to know that.

  • My old Apple ID won't allow me to use the old password to log out of the cloud. I can't use the new one, either. The new Apple ID is in the iTunes and App store. But I can't change it on the cloud without logging out. Which I can't do.

I can't use the old Apple id and Apple password on my new Iphone 6 - I can use the new ones. But I can't access the cloud in the meantime. The iTunes and App Stire has the new Apple ID, but I can't get into the settings to change it on the iCloud. It asks for the Old Apple ID and password, which doesn't work. Does anyone know how to change the old Apple ID on the iPhone in the settings for the iCloud?

First, try the new password.  If you didn't sign out of iCloud prior to changing the primary email address of your Apple ID, this is what can cause this problem.
Also, read this: If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud - Apple Support

It seems that article was updated by Apple.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5661If you no longer have your iOS device
If you did not follow the steps above before selling or giving away your iOS device:
Ask the new owner to erase all content and settings as described above.
If you are using iCloud and Find My iPhone on the device, you can erase the device remotely and remove it from your account by signing in to icloud.com/find, selecting the device, and clicking Erase. When the device has been erased, click Remove from Account.

  • How can I change language without logging out?

    All,
I'd like to create, say, an icon on the desktop which changes the current language (e.g. English) to a new one (e.g. Russian) when you click on it.
I'm not sure this is either easy or possible on OS X, but it sure would be convenient.
    Thanks
    ,Doug

    Good question.
I think I'm really only interested in the UI and really the entire UI.
I suspect this is unreasonable because we're talking about resetting environment variables, and I don't see any way to do that. Still, Apple could have done something interesting on top of the Unix underneath.
    Thanks.

  • Toolbar buttons do not work and are greyed out not allowing me to log in or log out

I have increasingly been frustrated with firefox not allowing me to log in and or log out of important websites in which i pay my bills online This happens because the toolbar buttons are greyed out. It makes this feature non functional, therefore I have to resort to closing the website page without logging out. Can you tell me how to fix this problem? When i click on the buttons there is no response; its as if they were drawn.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Is there a way to have applications run in the background after I log out?

New to Mavericks, have a new iMac after being on Leopard for years. After I log out, all the applications I had running stop and close. Is there a way to keep those running? It seems like logging out, and the applications stopping, would negate the ability to see any notifications on the lock screen. I have multiple users set up on this computer, is that the reason?

By definition, logging out means quitting all your processes. If you want to log in as a different user without logging out, see below.

  • When I close firefox it stays open, but visibly is closed, I have to log out or restart to make it close

Not all the time, but very frequently when I close a tab it stays open in the background(if it is a video, I can hear it still playing) When I exit out of the browser completely it keeps running in the background. It appears to be closed. When I try to reopen it (i.e.- double click desktop icon, got to start menu and try to open), nothing happens. I have tried to reinstall firefox during some of these times and it says the browser is open and I have to close it before installation can continue. That tells me the browser is somehow not closing when I close it, that it runs in the background with no way to control it without logging out or restarting computer. I do not have any problems like this with Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.

I only had a few addons installed, I disabled Zone Alarm toolbar, View Source Chart 3.01. I also had 5 separate java console updates/addons, and I uninstalled all but the latest java console 6.0.21. All I have now is Roboform 6.9.98, Firebug 1.5.4, Java console 6.0.21, Java quick starter 1.0. So far, so good, the problem has not occurred today. I hope this is it, I will be more sure after a few days problem free. Thanks for the info.

  • Logging out of BPC

Lets say I have 2 spreadsheets one is BPC related the other is not. How can I log out of BPC without also closing that other spreadhseet and therefore having to open it again?
Can i just log out of BPC and not be logged out of excel? Thanks.

    Hi,
Yes, you can definitely log out of BPC without logging out of Excel. When you login to BPC excel, if you have office 2007, in the add ins tab, there will be a button "log off". Clicking on that, will log you off from BPC, without logging off from excel.
    Hope this helps.

  • Safari Automatic Log out??

We have our iMac set to log out automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity, but lately it has been shutting down everything we have open including Safari and iPhoto which can be very annoying when you're working on a project or keeping tabs on an auction, etc. Question is, how can we get the computer to "time out" and require a password to log back in but still keep our programs open? Essentially, like "locking" a Windows computer... or is there a separate option to close programs automatically also that we might have accidentally activated?
    Thanks!

I do not know much about "locking" a PC, hvdel, but if you are still using Snow Leopard, in System Preferences, in the Security pane, under the General tab, there is a setting to automatically log out after X minutes of inactivity. Near the top of that pane, there is a check box that allows you to require a password after sleep or the screen saver begins.
If you log out, any open programs must close.  However, you can put the computer to sleep and that will not quit any programs.
So what you can do is uncheck the automatic log out option and instead use the Energy Saver options in System Preferences to put the computer to sleep after 10 minutes.  Then you can go to the General tab in the Security settings pane and check the box requiring a password immediately after sleep or screen saver begins.
Then the computer will go to sleep, but no one can wake it up without a password.  So, in effect, you are locking the computer without logging out.

  • LOG OUT Issue In personas

    Hi,
I have created persona's screen for ME22n. If user logged in and  made some changes to PO, then the user close the browser directly without log out.
in this scenario the PO is still in locked by the user. is there any way in peronas I can make the user log out once the window is closed.
    Thanks,
    Shaik Shadulla.

    Hi Shaik,
I guess if you have the latest notes (Personas client + kernel notes), then session should be killed once you either navigate away from personas or close your browser.
I just tested on IE and chrome, seems working for me. If issue continues, please raise a message so that dev team can look into it.
And of course, you can change the timeout parameters based on the message what Steve has posted above. But in your case, session should be killed immediately.
I would recommend you to verify your installation based on blog below before opening a message:
