Filevault encryption paused, despite reset of PRAM and using terminal commands

I have been trying to partition my HDD but am unable to because file vault encryption is paused - and has been since October 2014.
I attempted making a new user to see if this would bypass it, but it didn't.
I have reset the PRAM and have repaired the HDD both in recovery and normal, neither work.
I have also used terminal command "sudo fdesetup disable" to attempt turning it off, but that doesn't work either.
Help please??
Harry

If you don't already have a current backup of all data, back up before proceeding. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Disk Utility.
In the Disk Utility window, select the icon of the startup volume from the list on the left. It will be nested below another disk icon, usually with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar. When prompted, enter the login password of a user authorized to unlock the volume, or the alternate decryption key that was generated when you activated FileVault.
Then, from the menu bar, select
          File ▹ Turn Off Encryption
Enter the password again.
You can then restart as usual, if the system is working. Decryption will be completed in the background. It may take several hours, and during that time performance will be reduced.
If you can't turn off encryption in Disk Utility because the menu item is grayed out, you'll have to erase the volume and then restore the data from a backup. Select the Erase tab, and then select
          Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
from the Format menu.
You can then quit to be returned to the main Recovery screen. Follow these instructions if you back up with Time Machine. If you use other backup software, follow its developer's instructions.
Don't erase the volume unless you have at least two complete, independent backups. One is not enough to be safe.

Sorry, you're not talking to Apple here only other users like yourself.
Someone might be able to help if you post which e-book reader you are using?

How did you change your user name?
resetpassword wouldn't have done it. If you managed to create a new user, then your data is still in the old account.

    Max,
if you’ve installed the Xcode compiler and its “command line tools” add-on, there’s a lot of text-mode games for which source code can be downloaded and compiled. Back in the Neolithic Age when I was at university, Empire was a multiplayer favorite (see here for one of its current offspring, which can run multiplayer over the Internet, and for which a text-mode client is still available), and Rogue was popular for when solitary play was the only available option.

  • HT1712 Resetting the PRAM and the apple screen???

How long does it take to load back up after resetting the pram? It's been on the gray apple screen for some time now.

1.) Under Energy Saver: I specified not to ever put my computer to sleep, however, there is a checkbox for putting the hard disks to sleep when possible. What is the difference?
One's the computer (i.e., the operatinng system stored in memory), the other controls the physical HDs.
2.) After specifying not to put my computer sleep, I went to the login screen using fast user switching and there is still a sleep button on the login window. I am guessing that this is to put the computer to sleep and not the display.
Probably. As I stated earlier, I don't use FUS, so don't know its functioning WRT to sleeping.
How can I put the display to sleep at the login window? I want to make sure that it at the login window so if I leave the computer I do not need to worry about anyone waking up the display and having access to it.
AFAIK, you can't. Waking up the display doesn't give access to the computer when it's at the login window. If you could put it into a state wherein you couldn't wake the display, how do you suspect that you'd be able to login yourself?
This is all I have time for today. If these replies helped/fixed your problem, please mark them appropriately. Good computing.

  • Resetting PMU, PRAM and SMU does not stop freezes

Resetting all these things does nothing to stop either just plain not starting at all, or system freezes on startup. For the benefit of anybody reading this who uses ProTools, I'm running 7.4 LE. This is the only non-Apple app on the machine, which is my home studio. Very frustrating! It's a real crapshoot as to whether or not my studio computer will come on line every time I hit the on button, and then, whether or not I can run ProTools. For those folks, I'm curious as to whether or not an Archive and Install routine requires that ProTools it's plug-ins be reinstalled. Also, repairing system preferences and using MacJanitor religiously (or profanely with lots of body english) have never solved this problem either. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks

Try posting in the [intel iMac forum|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1110], you should get a better informed reply there.

  • Using Terminal Commands and Maintenance

I am trying to use the terminal commands as indicated in this article -
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2319?viewlocale=en_US - however, the response I get is "no such directory." While I used to be able to run this maintenance command in Tiger with no problems, I cannot do it with Leopard for some reason. Suggestions?

this article doesn't apply to leopard. if you want to force periodic tasks from terminal run
    sudo periodic daily
etc. to run them all at once run
    sudo periodic daily weekly monthly
However, leopard does a better job than tiger at running them and unless your mac is shut down at night every night it will run the tasks itself.

  • Has anyone found a solution to fixing the FileVault "encryption paused" error?

I got my Macbook Air in mid January 2015. When I set it up I decided to enable FileVault but after a few minutes the encryption failed and now it will not continue and complete, even when I have my computer on and plugged in. I have seen many different possible solutions, but none that really worked well. Has anyone found a good solution to the issue?

    Enter the password again.
You can then restart as usual, if the system is working. Decryption will be completed in the background. It may take several hours, and during that time performance will be reduced.

    Ciao Ciao!

    Hi,
Had similar issue with the same model. It works with power adapter plugged in, but not with battery alone.
You need to get the battery replaced.
    Cheers,
    Clarence

  • Forgotten password on iPhone 5, how can i reset via iTunes and use the phone?

I bought a used iPhone 5 from a friend, and unfortunately i found out there is a passcode when turning it on!!, and the old owner of the phone has forgot it! i tried 3-4 times and it said "wrong password",  WHat can I do to be able to launch the phone, or reset it via iTunes?

If it has been disabled after entering the wrong passcode - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212.
Unfortunately, you must restore it in iTunes on your computer.   There is no way to retrieve a forgotten pass lock code.
You will need to restore your device from the same computer that you most recently synced to, and restore the device. See - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.
