Filevault iCloud unlock

I enabled FileVault (Yosemite MBP) and I selected "Allow my iCloud account to unlock my data."
Where is my recovery key located?  How do I access it?  How do I tell my iCloud account to unlock the computer?

I selected "Allow my iCloud account to unlock my data."
The window with the recovery data never appeared.  (The link you provided is apparently out-of-date.)

  • Filevault 2 unlocks for all users - isn't that less secure than Filevault 1?

I've tried to find the answer online but can't...
If you have multiple users on your computer and you're using FileVault 2, ANY user that logs in decrypts the entire drive.
That means if I want to create an account for my flatmate, whenever he logs in the entire drive is decrypted.
In Filevault 1, each user had their own encrypted home directory.
    Am I missing something?
What happens if I don't include a user when turning on Filevault? Won't that mean they can't log in at all?

    Am I missing something?
Yes. You don't have to enable all users to unlock the volume. Only enable the users whom you trust implicitly with all data. The others will still be able to log in after the system starts up, but they won't be able to start or restart it.

  • ICloud Unlock for Corporate iPhones

I manage over 1000 corporate iPhones / iPads and I have several that the previous user has not removed the device from their iCloud.
So what is the process to release the device for another user.
I read a comment elsewhere that apple support can perform this task and I want to use that option.
Contacting ex-employees is not practical and I would prefer not to bin the device.
    Many Thanks.

Apple has not publically disclosed whether or not they have a process for situations like yours.  You would have to contact them directly to inquire about this.

  • I bought an icloud locked iphone 5s accidentaly ?

Hello There, first of all i may convey that im not a thief and did not steal others belonging.i bought an iphone 5s (imei-**********) from someone and its icloud locked. it came from south africa to bangladesh where is i am. I didn't know that it was icloud locked. The person i bought from told me its icloud unlocked and i cant even ship back this to south africa and the person sold me is out of my contact..On the other hand its factory unlocked since i tested with a sim and it got the network. To verify that i really bought the device i can provide a picture of imei matched box and other accessories.Needless to say i cant steal a box.
what are my options here ?
i'll be glad to if i can give back the device to the original  owner (i know how it feels to lose your favourite phone) but its not possible to send electronic item such as mobile device from our country as of GPO custom terms and regulation .it would be appreciated  if apple considers to remove the icloud lock from their server so that i can use the device and send a thank you note to apple.otherwise my four hundred dollar would be wasted and it would be an useless phone.
    Thanks.
    Have a good day.

    It's useless to you.
You may not have stolen it, but it's entirely possible that whoever sold it to you did.
Apple isn't going to intervene in this.
Sorry you wasted your money, but you're going to have to buy another phone.
The next time you consider buying a used iPhone or iPad, check to see if it's activation locked before you throw away your money: https://www.icloud.com/activationlock/

  • 2007 MBP - Grey Screen

I am getting the grey screen issue when I try to start up my late 2007 MBP.  I usually see either the spinning gear, or the beach ball.  Two other times, I have seen a progress bar which I have let run to completion.  Prior to this happening, my MBP would allow me to enter my password after it was in sleep mode, then it would just freeze with a spinning beach ball and not load my desktop.
I have gone through the suggestions in the KB article, "Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup" and I am stuck when I try to use Disk Utility.  When I am asked for the password (FileVault) to unlock the disk in order to do a permissions repair, the password no longer works.  I know that I am using the correct password because I have the password and key stored in 1Password.
I also tried to reinstall Mountain Lion from the recovery screen but I am having the same password issue.  I wasn't able to safe boot, but I didn't know about the verbose option until a few minutes ago.  I'm not at home right now, but I am thinking that I need to run some hardware tests after trying safe boot one more time with verbose turned on.
FWIW ... In the future, I think I am going to turn off FileVault and just encrypt the stuff I am concerned about instead of the entire volume.
    Any suggestions?

I tried this from another post:
Boot holding down Apple/S and don't let go until you see scrolling text.
When that stops and you see a root#: prompt enter
    fsck -fy
Let it run through all the checks and repairs.
If it fails first time, at any time, or finds and fixes a fault - run the command again and keep doing so (some fixes can take several passes) until it says "Appears to be OK" then enter
But when "Checking catalog file" it says
    disk0s2: I/O error.
    Invalid node structure
    (4, 3620)
The volume Internal could not be verified completely.
/dev/rdisk0s2 (hfs) EXITED WITH SIGNAL 8
Tried this again, but same thing over again a few times.
I'm now guessing my HD is dead.

  • Keeping an unlocked 3GS and new iPhone 5 on same iTunes, what/how can apps be shared if not using iCloud?

I have researched having two phones on the same account and keeping apps/music/contacts/etc.separate, but have not yet found a thread specific to NOT keeping everything separate but the same across phones; should be pretty simple, but simple sometimes isn't. Thanks in advance for your input!
My husband and I are electing to keep our 3GS' (unlocked) so when we travel internationally we can pop a sim in from the country we are in, mainly for data. (In one country we can get 500MB for 10 Euros versus the $25/100MB my carrier will charge with the iPhone 5.) At least that is what we hope...
    Couple questions:
    1. Once the cell number/service on the 3GS is transfered to the 5, the 3S will become basically an iPod touch until a new sim is in place, correct? We can still use wi-fi and the apps on the phone, and still be able to sync to iTunes, correct? iOS has been upgraded to 6.
1a. With a new Sim, any issue with losing any data/apps on the phone? I dont' think so.
    2. Once the 5 is activated on the new carrier, how do I share the apps within iTunes? Is it as easy as using iCloud (which we haven't "activated" yet) and/or plugging both phones into iTunes and transferring between devices (authorizing both)? Photos? There are photos on the 3S that we will need on the 5.
    3. Reverse order for new apps purchased (understand that not all the iphone 5 apps will work on the 3GS)?
    4. My husband also has a new iPad, any complications there with three devices? To date, he has not "shared" apps between his 3S and the iPad. He does not have iCloud set up, but plugs into his computer to backup and transfer photos.
Agian, thanks for your thoughts and any tips you can give me. Over the last three years with the 3GS, I have had to rebuild my phone twice and while most of the items were recovered, I am leery of throwing the 5 into the mix!

1a. With a new Sim, any issue with losing any data/apps on the phone? I dont' think so.
    1. Yes. without a sim it has no service, but all other features should be useable normally.
1.a Nope, Data and Apps are independent of the Sim.

    2. As long as both Phones use the same Apple ID, the applications can be synced to each through iTunes. Also any downloads on one phone should appear in the other. Again as long as both phones are using the same Apple ID.
    3. Reverse order for new apps purchased (understand that not all the iphone 5 apps will work on the 3GS)?
    3. If they can be run on the iPhone3GS they should be synced automatically.
    4. My husband also has a new iPad, any complications there with three devices? To date, he has not "shared" apps between his 3S and the iPad. He does not have iCloud set up, but plugs into his computer to backup and transfer photos.
    4. If all 3 Devices share the same Apple ID all should be synced.
As a word of warning, if all 3 devices use the same Apple ID, messages recieved using iMessage will appear on all 3 devices.
And Conctacts may get overwritten if synced to iCloud (thogh you say he doesn't have one), or merged together.

  • How do I unlock my iPhone with my IMEI code on iTunes. And how do I change the iCloud account connecting to the phone?

My sister got the 5S, so she has given me her old 4S. She got the IMEI code from her network to allow me to unlock it. When I plug the phone into my computer, how do I use the IMEI code to unlock it on iTunes. The text my sis got from O2 says, "Apple have confirmed the iPhone IMEI 01.....etc. is set to unlock. To complete, connect the device to iTunes with a SIM never used in the iPhone". But I'm not sure what to do, I already connecting the iPhone with my SIM to iTunes... What next? Also how do I change the iCloud account connected to the phone (hers) to my own?
    Thanks.

How do I unlock an icloud account? Can get hold of the person using the iphone before

You can't, and Apple won't do it for you(unless you're the original owner); the activation lock is an anti-theft measure. You may be able to get a refund for it.

  • I have forgot my Iphone passcode. Itunes will not let me restore it, i do not have icloude,or find my iphone, and the closest itunes store is 4 hours away how can i unlock, or reset my phone?

I have forgot my Iphone passcode. Itunes will not let me restore it, i do not have icloude,or find my iphone, and the closest itunes store is 4 hours away how can i unlock, or reset my phone?

    Try this:
Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

"iPad has not been backed up to iCloud for more than 2 weeks; backup happens when connected tp WiFi and iPad is locked and plugged in".
I cannot get rid of the message, I cannot unlock the iPad to do anything...it is fully charged, but I don't know what to do to get rid of the message display - it is "stuck" like this!  HELP!!

SORRY!  You had actually answered the other question, so all's well in my world.
I even answered re: my own post on the other thread (DUH!) - I hope that's not a problem...
The instructions were easy to follow, and everything is working just fine.  (I didn't know about holding down the 2 buttons simultaneously to get it back to the Apple on the screen.  I don't think my old iPad did that - maybe I just didn't have an occasion to need it!  (My 1st iPad was the ORIGINAL iPad.   I'm SO happy to have the "newest" iPad with Facetime, etc.  SUCH a wonderful toy!  SO much easier to carry than my MacBook Pro!   I'm a happy camper, randers4.  :-)
