Filevault stuck on encryption paused, but not to plug in

Ok. So I got a Macbook Air and chose to enable FileVault. About 3 days later, i went back to see what it was doing because "reverting from FileVault" was using "significant energy". So it said encryption paused, please plug in AC adapter to continue or whatever. I was on battery. I plugged in the MagSafe adapter and the message saying "plug in to continue" was gone, but it was still stuck on encryption paused. The blue bar is full all the way and I have left it charging for a while, both  when it was charging and when it was full, but it has been stuck on that. I looked at other people having problems and they had it stuck on encryption paused but also with the "plug in to continue". Mine doesn't say that part. Does anyone know what to do?

Back up all data before proceeding. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Disk Utility.
In the Disk Utility window, select the icon of the startup volume from the list on the left. It will be nested below another disk icon, usually with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar. When prompted, enter the login password of a user authorized to unlock the volume, or the alternate decryption key that was generated when you activated FileVault.
Then, from the menu bar, select
          File ▹ Turn Off Encryption
Enter the password again.
You can then restart as usual, if the system is working. Decryption will be completed in the background. It may take several hours, and during that time performance will be reduced.
If you can't turn off encryption in Disk Utility because the menu item is grayed out, you'll have to erase the volume and then restore the data from a backup. Select the Erase tab, and then select
          Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
from the Format menu.
You can then quit to be returned to the main Recovery screen. Follow these instructions if you back up with Time Machine. If you use other backup software, follow its developer's instructions.
Don't erase the volume unless you have at least two complete, independent backups. One is not enough to be safe.

  • FileVault stuck on "Encryption Paused"

    After upgrading my MPB to Yosemite, I elected to turn on FileVault. In the Security & Privacy panel of System Preferences, the status shows "Encryption paused" and the text under the progress bar reads, "Connect power adapter to resume encryption." Trouble is, I am running from the power adapter!
    I have rebooted and tried another power adapter. The battery icon in the menu bar correctly changes from battery to power adapter as I connect and disconnect. However, the encryption status never changes. I have left the machine running overnight with no change.
    Any ideas?

    My happened exactly the same thing. Stuck at Encryption Paused, and already tried all the recommendation in this post.
    It's no longer moving anywhere now.

  • File vault stuck on encryption paused.

    Hi all
    Recently bought a Macbook Air and decided to use file vault, things seemed ok at first but when file vault was about to finish it became stuck on "encryption paused".
    Even with the power adapter connected it still will not continue, also i have found that it will cause "system preferences" to stop responding requiring me to force quit the application.
    I have spoke to a very helpful Apple support adviser who said it was a "cosmetic issue" and i should try a PRAM reset but this has not resolved the problem.
    Is anybody else experiencing similar problems?
    Thanks

    how to remove 1797 emails. stuck in inbox.  but not showing anymore - and i have the same problem wit the sent.  please help

    This is a user supported frum, so making threats really doesn't help, besides which it's not like any of us can really make a dent in Toshiba's bottom line despite how many people we think we can influence. Unless those people were standing in line to buy a Toshiba product cash in hand, and you pulled them out, it really doesn't add up for them.
    At this point it would probably be better for you to use the 800 number. Have all your e-mails ready to forward, if needed, to whoever you end up talking to. Don;t let them off the hook. An hour on the phone is much better than weeks passing e-mails through a support site. Also contest the charge with your bank or credit card.

  • Ipod nano plays with headphones but not when plugged in to player

    I have a nano 16gb 4th or 5th generation.  It has worked fine up until about a week ago.  It works if I plug in the headphones, but not when it is plugged into the car stereo or an iHome.  Any thoughts?

    If:
    -you and your husband have the same generation iPod nano
    -they both have the same latest software
    -you tried the car stereo with the same iPod charging cord.
    (with 32 pins connector I just wanted to make sure it is not the headphone plug)
    this means that the problem is indeed with your iPod nano.
    Since you also said that before last week everything worked fine, something must've gone wrong after that.
    This could be software-related or hardware-related. Did you try to connect it to your computer? Does the computer recognise it? Can you still charge it?
    If the computer does recognise the iPod it might be a good idea to 'repair' your iPod via iTunes.
    Or try the Five R's: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/nano5gen/# (more or less the same for 4th and 5th gen)
    If your computer does not recognise it, it probably needs to be repaired. But since it is 4th or 5th generation I guess the warranty is void already, and you'll have to decide how much this is worth to you or if you wouldn't want to buy a new one.

  • FileVault stuck on encrypting

    I foolishly tried to enable FileVault and now it is completely stuck on "Estimating time remaining" for 2 days. It became stuck quite fast as it gave me an error a minute or two in, but it won't stop now though...

    I'm not sure why it only says 16.8 MB of free space, system info shows 56 GB - but why the looks of it, it hasn't encrypted anything yet. Is there any way I can stop FileVault from loading and shut it down?

    Thanks for the response. I do have multiple backups, so I went ahead and rebooted. However, FileVault was still stuck for another 10 hours without doing anything... After calling apple, they told me I would have to do a clean install. So did that, moved all my stuff back  and now all is well again.
    And you are absolutely right, in a fit of not thinking, I enabled it without knowing what it does. Not going near it again, that's for sure!
    Thanks for the help

  • FireVault stuck on "Encryption Paused"

    I bought a new Macbook pro retina 2 days ago and it came preinstalled with OS X Yosemite, and in the app store i had an update for Yosemite which i did and it asked me after installation weather to use FileVault,
    I agreed and my mac booted up, then i put my Mac to sleep while it was charging
    When i saw after sometime it got stuck displaying the message "Please connect charger to resume Encryption"...
    And its stuck since this morning, I've tried to plug it in and do it again and again, but nothing seems to work...
    Please help...!!!

    If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • ITunes Match stuck in step 3 - but not uploading at all

    My iTunes Match is stuck in step 3 with exactly 2711 songs left, and in iTunes it has the swirling busy marks next to "iTunes Match," "My iPad," and "Genius Mixes."
    I cannot access the iTunes Store. I cannot update my apps. It will not show our other iPad or iPhone on the menu even if we plug them in.
    Basically, iTunes is stuck in an endless loop on Match, with no progress over 48 hours, and is preventing us from doing anything else.
    I've looked through the web and this discussion board, and other solutions are not working. In fact, I cannot even "turn off iTunes Match" because the button is grayed out. Force closing iTunes, restarting the computer - none of these things work.

    I thought my email from Apple would amuse, in it they imply I was unable to make it work. Not them. Note no apology whatsoever - it would imply guilt.
    They also threatened me with an effective year long ban if I get my money back. Here's the email:
    Hello David,
    I understand that you haven't been able to get Match working, so you'd like to see about receiving a refund. I can imagine you must be eager to get this sorted out. Edna wanted to make sure this gets resolved, so your case was escalated to me. My name is Adam and I'm an iTunes store senior advisor.
    Please keep in mind that if you cancel your iTunes Match subscription, you will no longer have access the Match features. In addition, if you receive a refund, you will not be able to subscribe to iTunes Match again until a year from the refund date.
    If you would still like to cancel, just reply to this email with the billing address and the last four digits of the credit card on the account. Upon receiving your response, Apple will verify your information, cancel your iTunes Match subscription and issue you a full refund. You will receive an email confirmation in regards to any refund.
    I'm looking forward to your reply and the chance to get this taken care of for you. Apple wants your iTunes experience to be as enjoyable as possible.
    Sincerely,
    Adam

  • FileVault stuck in "pause" - freezed status

    I've enabled FileVault on my MBP Retina 15'' new (bought 2 days ago!) but it's in PAUSE and don't go ahead.
    I've already tried the following steps unsuccesfull:
    - unplug/plug AC;
    - restart several times;
    - leave MBP on for more than 24hrs;
    - sudo fdesetup disable;
    - restart in Recovery Mode, turn-off Encryption on HDD;
    Before wiping the HDD, re-install Yosemite and restore the data, I'd  like to know if there is any chance to unfreeze the FileVault's status and procede to crypt the HDD.
    Any solution on matter? Any patch will be rollout ?

    I'm seeing the same behavior (diskutil output below). I'm about 20 hours into the conversion. The FileVault status shows Encryption Paused but the com.apple.preference.security.remoteservice process floats around 80-100% CPU utilization which makes me think that it's still working.
    Is there a log file or any other way of getting more detailed status info from FileVault?

  • SQLite encrypted Database does not get attached Using Adobe Air,Why?

    Hi,
    Any one knows the solution, am trying to attach the encrypted SQLite database adobe air-adobe flex bulder , it does not get attached using sqlconnection.attach throws error, though the given key is correct, but it gets open using sqlconnection.open with the same key, any one knows the solution, how to attach the encrypted data base, since am using two data base one is opened and another must be attached to the existing ,thanks in advance. using adobe air- flex related. i use the following code
                   databaseFile1 = File.applicationStorageDirectory.resolvePath("Sample_1.sqlite");
                   databaseFile2 = File.applicationStorageDirectory.resolvePath("Sample_2.sqlite");
    dbConnection.open(databaseFile1, SQLMode.CREATE, false, 1024, secKey);
    dbConnection.attach("db2",databaseFile2,null,secKey);
    got the following error.
    ERROR #3125 Unable to open the database file.

    And I would say more "this is the issue" !
    It should be possible as it is clearly stated in the doc :
    public function attach(name:String, reference:Object = null, responder:Responder = null, encryptionKey:ByteArray = null):void
    with
    encryptionKey:ByteArray (default = null) — The encryption key for the database file. If the attach() call creates a database, the database is encrypted and the specified key is used as the encryption key for the database. If the call attaches an existing encrypted database, the value must match the database's encryption key or an error occurs. If the database being attached is not encrypted, or to create an unencrypted database, the value must be null (the default).
    so with a same encryptionkey, I (and this should be the same for FinalTarget) can open the encrypted db but not to attach it... quite strange.

  • Ichat works with wireless, but not ethernet

    Just moved into new office and bought new iMac. I can get internet with ethernet or wireless, but iChat works only over wireless. This is true with my intel Macbook as well. Is this a port or firewall problem, and if so, why would wireless work, but not ethernet?

    Who is supplying the wireless internet connection?
    Who is supplying the wired internet connection? If
    it's two different entities, the IT Secret Police may
    be blocking ports on the wired side.
    TimeWarner comes in from the outside, but a private contractor is involved in the setup of the wireless which is connected to the TW modem. But if the wireless goes into the TW cable, why does it work as wireless, but not directly plugged in? It is as if converting the signal to wireless cures the problem.

  • Lenovo T410 Wireless N pauses (g better but not perfect)

    I have a brand new T410 with intel wireless 6200 abgn, wireless N performance is poor when streaming video etc.
    I have done quite a lot of work and updated driver to latest 13.4.0.9 and also tried both winXP and Win7 pro 64 bit, both the same.
    Problem:
    When streaming wireless N @ 300mbs, even if 6 feet from the access point (Draytek 2820 bgn) after varying times, up to 2 minutes, wireless network traffic will pause for between 1 second to maybe 10 seconds or more then 'wake up' The signal always shows 300mbs connection, so not connectivity, performance monitor shows no lost packets and of course when video buffer runs out (5 sec) then video stops.  If the pause is not too long, the video stream will re-start., but not a great viewing experience as a result. Even if I cut the video stream rate to just 3mbit/s it stops stream for 5-10 seconds every 2-3 minutes, worse if I stream at full speed 8mbit/s.
    I also checked wireless performance with iperf to check max wireless data xfer speed connected at a steady 300mbit/s  wireless N, single TCP datastream stream, but xmit is  a steady 27.5mbit/s max over 30 seconds but receive 22mbit/s max can drop to zero, yes 0mbit/s  for up to 3 seconds in a 30second burst . the test from wireless  to a GbE wired PC on the router GbE port , If I checked the 6200 stats, it shows nothing either, all traffic is in one the '2x54 and 2x60mbit/s fast lanes', it is like the adapter is sleeping.  If I stream 2 data streams wireless N with iperf I get a sum transmit  rate of 45-47mbit/s (23+23) but the sum receive rate is stuck at 20-25mbit (13+13) , varies wildly and dops to zero/near zero at the same time on both streams.
    UDP performance in wireless N was not good either.
    Originally the pb was the same on wireless g as well also just 6 feet from the router, I got a new T410 wireless card under warranty and now wireless g is better, but still odd smaller drop offs in traffic of 1-2mbit/s,  but acceptable with max transmit speed of 20.5mbits/s and receive of 22mbits/s, I would be happy with that., Streaming video still pauses now and again as network traffic stops/pauses, but noy for long enough usually to affect video streaming. Throughput is very close to my T60 wireless g speed in fact, just not as steady... Wireless signal strengths seem comaparable as well.
    With the new wireless card the wireless N is a bit better, can run up to 2-3 minutes but it is still real bad even with the new mini pci wireless card.
    I have a belkin wireless bg AP and the draytek bgn AP, when in wireless g it is much better on both APs since the new card fitted, T410 connects up at solid 54mbit/s 54g , not so bad but still see some network pause but rare.  Wireless N is still bad, I tweaked draytek wireless N settings, greenfield mode, 20 and 40mbs channel, no turbo, max power, no nearby wireless, tried no encryption, other AP turned of, wireless N only mode,,,cannot get it working. Tweaked T410 6200 settings, max power etc, co change.
    Just to be sure, streaming over the GbE adapter is perfect and iperf gave max speed of >300mbits/s both ways, constant, so I guess the OS winXP and win7 side of things is ok.
    If I compare the performance of the new T410 with my outgoing T60 3495abg wireless winXP SP3, T60 wins hands down, perfect streaming, solid , no speed pauses all round the house the last 4 years.
    Just to rule out my draytek 2820 wireless bgn router, I  did similar test on wireless N only to a 9 year old IBM T23 thinkpad with a Netgear Draft N pcmcia adapter, it performed better than the T410 with iperf and streaming the same video over wireless N, no stops and stutters, constant net traffic of 3mbit/s  and connected at draytek AP at 270mbit/s WPA2..
    I am stumped, I am just pretty sure it is a wireless N only receive pb. Is there any chance it could be an aerial pb, if so I guess I will send it away for repair to fix that under warranty.
    Anybody out there with any ideas ?
    Many thx

    Done.

    I've been having a problem that matches your description too.  Wireless-N connection drops whenever significant load is put on it.  I've got a Dell Studio 15 Laptop with an Intel 5300 wireless and Win 7 x64 connecting to a Draytek Vigor2820vn.  The laptop doesn't have the problem connected to any other networks.  The problem also goes away if I set the draytek to only operate in Wireless-G mode (well, it becomes so rare as to become irrelevant, 15+ mins between pauses instead of <2mins).  I sent the router back to Draytek who replaced the internal wireless card.  I've tried just about every firmware and setting I can find.  I've also replaced the wireless card with an Intel 6300 card, and tried many different driver versions.  No joy with anything.  I've had many false starts, as the problem is just unpredictable enough to be difficult to test in reasonable time.  I haven't experienced drops when the network has no security, but operating with no security is useless!
    If you manage to get to the bottom of the problem I'd be really interested.  I'm currently considering opening the Draytek up and inspecting the wireless card in it myself.  I've also wondered if it is possible to replace it, but I don't know how that would work with the draytek firmware.  I believe the wireless card in the router is an "AirCruiser N300" card (based on this image - http://www.thg.ru/network/draytek_vigor_2820vn/draytek_vigor_2820vn_screenshots_7_1.html)
    I've been documenting my attempts to solve this issue at http://www.jonsguides.com/2010/09/unsolved-strange-wireless-video.html
    Thanks in advance for any ideas anyone has

    I've got Windows 7 updated to SP1 which made no difference, and I've installed the system administrator version of Intel Proset and used the Intel utility instead of the Windows one to manage wireless networks.  No joy with those either.  The most likely culprit seems to be the router / the wireless card in the router
