FileVault Yosemite: 22 days to encrypt?! HELP!!!

So, against my better judgement, I decided to do the FileVault option once I installed Yosemite. BIG MISTAKE. Not only is it eating my memory and making my Mac slow, it says that it's going to take 22 days to encrypt!!!
HOW CAN I DO A KILL SWITCH TO STOP IT FROM ENCRYPTING AND JUST TURN IT OFF NOW WHILE IN ITS PROCESS? I tried turning it off, but the message is telling me I have to "wait until it's done with the encryption." W T F.

Talked to Apple Genius: What I did was reset the ram by doing : COMMAND + OPTION + P + R. Held it down once the start-up chime hit. I would hold it until it would restart again and let go on the second chime. This brought it down from 22 days to 9 hours. I left my MacBook on overnight and everything was encrypted by morning. Hope this works for you! Once it was done it worked pretty fast.

You probably ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" or "MacCleanse" that purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below. If you use any iWork applications, you may need to delete them and redownload them from the App Store.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

Do you use MobileMe and an iPhone? If yes, do this in the following order:
Mac:
(1) back up the applications giving you problems
iPhone
(1) Open settings, then open "mail, contacts, calendars"
(2) Open .Mac account
(3) Turn OFF the applications that are causing problems
(4) When you turn off on of the applicatios, a red sign "stop syncing" will appear. Press it. A msg will appear "turning off xxx"
(5) Get out of settings
(6) Don't do anything for about 20 mins. Don't touch your iPhone or your Mac. (syncing needs time to settle down)
After 20 minutes...
Mac:
(1) Open each application that is giving you problems. Fix errors. Back up.
(2) Do this for each application
iPhone
(1) Open settings, then open "mail, contacts, calendars"
(2) Open .Mac account
(3) Slide switch to ON for each app you turned off; there won't be a msg
(4) Get out of settings
(5) Via MobileMe, syncing will start again.
Wait about 20 minutes, again. You should see all in order after that. At least, that was my experience.

Close ID, find the HIDDEN InDesign Recovery folder (It will be next to InDesign SavedData, and you can find the path to that for your OS at Replace Your Preferences ), and empty it, then restart ID normally, not by double-clicking a file.
If your file was not damaged during the crash, it should open from the File menu at the last saved state. You will lose anything you did to the file since the last save.

What do you mean by Factory unlock ?
Unlocked iPhones are either sold by Apple with no carrier lock or the original carrier has agreed to unlock the iPhone from their network

Try to Restore with iTunes on your computer. If this does not work, there is full Warranty. Make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send to Apple for resolution.

Try and force your iPad into Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.

Mac is extremely slow after yosemite update, really need help. (Etrecheck inside).

After recently installing yosemite my mac been painfully unresponsive and slow. I cannot boot up in normal mode, i'm currently in safe mode.
What I have tried so far and what I know:
Initially thought filevault was the issue, I disabled encryption and now it says "decryption is paused" and hasn't resumed in days. Potentially is the issue.
I run a hardware diagnostic test using the hardware check within the macbook pro (booting up holding D) and the mac didn't identify any hardware issues.
I reinstalled yosemite (not a clean install) and the issue was not resolved.
I have completed a backup of my mac so all my data is secure.
Any help would be great, even just telling me how to turn on filevault will be helpful.

HT204534 I activated filevault 4 days ago and it has rendered my macbook pro unworkable. There is no estimated time showing in firevault, it seems stuck in the same place. It will not let me turn off firevault in Sec&P or CMD+R

AFter installing Yosemite and enabling Firevault my machine has become so slow it is unusable whilst encrypting is in progress.
It will not let me turn it off.
THe estimated time remaining has never revealed itself ... it has been encrypting now for 4 days and the guider has not moved from its one quarter position.
IT will not allow me to turn it off via CMD+R
I am absolutely stuck.

I have removed the power save options and keep the computer on all the time now with the Firevault screen visible .. nothing speeds it up.
I regret enabling Firevault .. but it is so unforgiving for the uninformed ... like me.

Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Disk Utility. In the Disk Utility window, select the icon of the startup volume from the list on the left. Then, from the menu bar, select
File ▹ Turn Off Encryption
Enter the login password of a user authorized to unlock the volume, or the alternate decryption key that was generated when you activated FileVault.
You can then restart as usual, if the system is working. Decryption will be completed in the background. It may take several hours, and during that time performance will be reduced.

Filevault Yosemite stalled and won't continue??

My mid 2012 MBP retina is in paused mode of encryption in FileVault.
I thought it might be a good idea to use this with all the horror stories you hear about stolen laptops but better to be stolen than use FileVault IMHO :-).
It has been in encrypting mode since the day Yosemite was released...I just realized it today and it now shows Encryption paused. When I try to turn off FileVault, the message says to wait until the disk is fully encrypted before turning it off. I searched for info in this group and the best idea I could find was to reset PRAM - which I did and it went to a screen that said "encrypting - estimating time remaining" to a screen that said to plug in to power adapter (which I already was plugged in to ((tested to be working by unplugging and replugging and screen brightness changed)).
Looks like the proverbial catch 22 to me at this point and I'm stuck...any advice appreciated.
