Filing documents in the iCloud

is there a way to file documents in iCloud by "topic" (e.g. "my thesis") as opposed to by type of document (e.g. pages, etc)?   If not, what's the point??

I guess its the way my mind works: I think "my thesis", "my home renovation" - and will then go see the documents that are being shared/worked on and that I"m lookng to pull up/share.  I don't first think  "my spreadsheet...and then look at the 4 s/s that may be there".
I sense from everything I'm hearing that, this isn't going to work for me (because I guess I do need an element of a filing system).
In the event Apple is reading this, let me vent for a second that this is supremely annoying....after all, MobileMe had that feature. Odd that Apple is going backwards in their services...
Thanks for your help, Mr. Churchill!

  • Why am i not able to find iPad documents in the iCloud on my imac

I believe that I have documents that are saved to the iCloud and then switched to the iCloud drive but I am unable to view those documents on the iCloud online or on my iMac.
Why can i not find the documents.

    Hi darceyam,
I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with iCloud Drive. If you are having issues accesssing your previous files, you may find the following article helpful:
What if I don't see all my files at iCloud.com?
Any documents that you've already stored in iCloud are automatically moved to iCloud Drive when you upgrade. iCloud.com will display these files in the new iCloud Drive app in addition to the iWork apps (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote) that you're used to seeing.
If you don’t see your files in the iWork apps or in iCloud Drive, then make sure that you set up iCloud Drive on all of your devices.

  • Can I set the language (for spellcheck) of a document in the iCloud Web version, or iOS version, of Pages? If yes, how?

Can I set the language (for spellcheck) of a document in the iCloud Web version, or iOS (iPad) version, of Pages? If yes, how?

In iOS, the spellcheck language follows the keyboard.

  • Can anyone tell me how to scan documents to the icloud, so they will be on the ipad.  My husband is planning on using the ipad for work.

Can anyone tell me how to scan documents to the icloud, so they will be on the ipad?  My husband is planning on using his ipad for business.  I haven't been able to even find anywhere that I could read about scanning documents.

If you scanned the documents - what format did you save them in - pdf? If so, Pages will not open pdf files. you can save a file and export it as a pdf from Pages - but not the other way around.
If you need simply view the documents - you can send them to the iPad via email or DropBox and them open and save them in iBooks. or Adobe Reader. both apps are free. Adobe Reader can use file sharing in iTunes to transfer the files.
If you need to annotate the files - you will need an app like Goodreader - which can use file sharing from iTunes in order to transfer the files as well. GoodReader may work with iCloud now, but you will have to check that out in the App Store.
You can read this to see how to use file sharing. It really is pretty easy to use. You do need to do this with your computer.

  • How can I transfer all my documents to the ICLOUD drive?

How can I transfer all of my documents on my Mac to the ICLOUD drive without doing it Manually one by one?

Do you have signed up for enough iCloud storage, that all your documents will fit?
Make a current backup of your Mac, before you move the documents over.
Do you want to move your documents to the app-specific folders - Preview, Pages, etc, or do yu want to create your own folder hierarchy?
In the app specific folders yo can only have one level of nested sub folders, so you will have to move the documents in small groups. But outside these folders you could create a new folder iCloudHome and drag complete folders from your Home folder over.
Be careful not to try to upload more files than your iCloud Storage permits. I would not try to upload too many files at once. You cannot work with the files, while they are uploading.

  • Do I need Pages in order to save my word document to the iCloud?

I am new to using iCloud and have been trying to save Word documents to the cloud.  Even when the iCloud has been properly activated on my mac, when I try to save my document within Word, I do not get iCloud as an option in the dropdown menu for locations to save to.  I wasn't sure if I need to purchase Pages in order to save Microsoft Word documents.  That doesn't seem to make sense to me, but I'm not sure what else I might be doing incorrectly.

Thanks for the help!  So once I've downloaded Pages, iCloud should appear in the dropdown menu as a location to save to?
As long as you are using Mountain Lion (10.8.x) yes, you'll see this:
You will need 2 copies of Pages, one for your Mac and one for the iPad.

  • How to get a new iMac pages document into the iCloud

I have an 27 inch imac , an ipad 2 , and an itouch .   I purchased pages for the ipad2 and upgraded to lion on my imac. I can make a pages document on my ipad2 and it goes to the icloud and I can see it on my itouch.  Then I can make changes on the itouch and go to the ipad2 and see the changes.  So the icloud is working.  When I make a pages document on the imac I can not find a way to send it to the icloud so I can see it on my ipad2.  Can someone help me.
    thanks

The iCloud email account is tied to the iCloud account.  If you want a different (new) email account you'll have to create a new iCloud account for your phone.  You can, however, create an email alias to use associated with your current account (see http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2622).  It will have a different email address, but will receive email to the same inbox as the current address so this may not meet your needs.

  • How do I put a word document on the icloud and review it on my iPad

Can someone please help with this.  I would like to deal with Word/excel documents on my IMac and then review/edit on my ipad.
How can I do this please?
    Thanks

First, you need to have Pages for iOS installed on the iPad, and an iCloud account.
Once you have Pages for iOS installed, you need to ensure you are signed in with your iCloud account on the iPad - settings / iCloud, and that "documents and data" is enabled.
Then ensure you have Pages set to use iCloud - settings / Pages.
Then on your computer you simply go to www.iCloud.com/iWork and click the gear icon to upload your document.
Once it is uploaded to iCloud, then on the iPad, launch Pages.

  • How do I utilize the iCloud to view Pages documents created on my MacBook?

I'm trying to figure out how to get pages documents from the iCloud to view on my iPad that were originally created on my MacBook. Do I need to download the pages app if I already have it on my MacBook? I guess I'm confused as to how to even find what's stored in my iCloud. When I save things on my MacBook are they automatically put in the iCloud?
    Thanks in advance for help.

In which case you will need to upload and download documents to and from iCloud through the web portal at iCloud.com

  • Is the iCloud a backup tool for your computer?  How do I get my data back -- off the iCloud?

Is the iCloud a backup tool for your computer?  ---- Apple care suggested using iCloud for a backup to my documents.  I do not have an iphone, ipad or laptop.  Just an iMac.  Nothing to share the data with.
Now I am unable to access some of my documents on my computer and saving documents is cumbersome because it always wants to save it in iCloud, not my computer.  The documents I am unable to open are my old MS-Word.  One is a macro enabled word doc.   I am using os x mountain lion.
After over an hour chat with apple care, the issue is not resolved.  I did not have more time to resolve the issue today and it will be continued next week.  Per apple care, I do not have any documents in the iCloud however I am almost at the free capacity with  contacts and documents.
My question is -- If I purchase backup from a clould provider - other than apple, back up my files in documents in their cloud (make sure I can open them) and then delete the link to iCloud.  Would I preserve my data? Has anyone tried this?  I am open to suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Phyllis

Not really. You can store "Documents in the Cloud" but this applies only to documents created by Pages, Numbers, Preview, Keynote, and Microsoft Office documents created on your computer stored in iCloud's "iWork". Within that limited purpose, iCloud works very well.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean by "purchase backup from a cloud provider" but if you're considering a service such as Carbonite, I don't advocate any of them. To back up your Mac, use your own backup device - Time Capsule or an external hard disk. It's inexpensive and reliable: two elements essential for a backup strategy, that no subscription service can offer.

  • TS3991 A Pages document in the cloud corrupt - any chance of recovery?

I have been using Pages on my iPad with iCloud syncing enabled, it worked reasonably well for me until today. When I tried to access one of the documents on my Mac and download it from iCloud.com, I got a notice that there is some sort of version conflict and I should pick one of two possible versions to keep. I selected the more recent one, after which I received a message that the document can't be downloaded. I rushed back to my iPad to open the document and copy it somewhere, but alas, the change had already synced back to the iPad and now I can't access the document on the iPad as well. My last idea was to open Pages for Mac (which I have but rarely use, I'm more of a Word guy) to see if the document hadn't been saved there. The iCloud menu shows all of my documents, this time with file sizes as well, but the problematic one is only 2 KB in size (others are 20x bigger) and of course refuses to open. Something very bad happened to the document, I don't know how, but it was a very important document and if there's no way I can restore it, I'll get very mad at Apple and the whole iCloud "convenience". Is there any way to restore the document to its previous state?

  • Different formats for documents in the cloud do not work

    Hello,
    I have a question:
I use documents in the icloud on my mac and my ios devices. Sometimes I also need to download these documents onto PC from the web browser. When I try to do it, it allows to donload only .pages format, with other (doc and pdf) formats greyed out. That is very annoying, what can I do to have my documents in all the possible formats?

I don't see it mentioned above, but when you remove the apps from your devices, have you been to system preferences > iCloud and checked that all your pages and numbers documents have been deleted from your storage, deleting them if necessary.
Also when you add things back, avoid adding documents with the same names as those you have been having problems with.

  • How do I upload documents to the cloud?

I would like all the documents on my computer to be on icloud so I can view them on my iphone

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Open each application that supports iCloud on your Mac, choose File > Open and add the appropriate documents to the iCloud panel that appears.

  • How can I retrieve my pages documents from another account in the iCloud

I was using pages in my ipad. Then I bought a Mac Pro and signes with a new iCloud account. In order to sync it with my ipad I deleite the previous iCloud account from the divise and started it with the new account. I previously choose to keep all the documenta before deleten the account.
Now when opened pages I can not see any of my previous doccuments

You'll need to copy the Pages documents from the old iCloud account to the new one.  To do this, go to iCloud.com from your Mac and sign into the old account.  Launch Pages beta and confirm that your documents are still there.  Assuming they are, select them, then click the gear icon on the menu bar and choose Download Documents and choose the Pages format.  This will download copies of the documents to your Mac.  Drag the downloaded documents to your desktop and double-click on them to extract them from the .zip files.  Next, sign out on iCloud.com and sign back into your new iCloud account.  Launch Pages beta in the new account, then drag and drop the documents from your desktop to the Pages beta window to upload them to the new account.  You can now access the documents from devices signed into your new account.
