Fill color is outside the path

One of the graphic elements I was given has me stumped.  When I select it, I can see the path of the object and see that it has a fill color and no stroke.  However, the fill color extends outside the path. This ends up causing me a headache when I try to slice and save for web.  I can never get the result I want in a PNG.  I always end up with a few pixels more or less wrong on one or more sides.  Help!

pcdavis,
You may have Effect>Offset Path applied; you may see it in the Appearance palette/panel, and click the Reduce to Basic Appearance button there.

  • Fill color not bound by paths???

    Greetings. For some reason unknown to me, when I select a fill color for an object, the fill color expands beyond the boundary of the object. I've tried working with the pathfinder tools, specifically the Unite function as well as the Object, Group function with still no luck. Although they may appear as one outline, many of the strokes were laid seperately which is why I thought the Group and Unite functions would be the key. BTW, Almost forgot, tried the Compound path function as well which did alter the area of the fill but wasn't able to control it(fill) though. Any ideas how to accomplish a simple fill within the boundaries of a complex object?
    Please help... already spent several hours trying to figure this out on my own.

    Best way to do this is make the outline one path then the toes are drawn over that path now you fill only the foot path.
    Since the toe divider lines are on top of the foot path you do not have to restack the paths.

  • How can I blur a selection on a layer (gaussian blur) without the colors/transparency outside the borders of the selection bleeding through?

    I am a digital artist, and I switch between programs a lot because sometimes photoshop just doesn't do everything, but I would really like to know if photoshop can help me with this. Is there a way for me to blur a selection without the edges becoming transparent (or color from outside the selection bleeding in). This really bothers me, and my other programs don't have this issue.

  • Why do filler colors change when the orientation changes?

    Hi, I'm working with a template but don't like the colors of the fill boxes, so I have manually changed them.  I've noticed, however, at least when look at a proof that when I change the orientation of the iPad, the filler color reverts to the original.  The color change screws with the styles.  Anyone else have this problem?  Any fixes?

    Thanks for your reply.  I was fuzting with the "book" again.  It was the simplest -- and therefore easiest to modify stylistically -- template, which was supposed to work in both orientations.  I created it in landscape.  Last night I reallized that when I changed the orientation when working in iBook, if I applied the color change to the boxes [again], the color change stayed when viewed in either orientation.
    BUT I also saw that the box placement in the portrait view is "wrong."  It covers part of one of the headlines.  While I have changed the headline font manually [not via paragraph styles, which I am finding difficult to manipulate], I have not moved the text.  It is where the template placed it but simply using a different font.
    Thanks for any insight you might have.

  • How can I programmatically change the fill color Settings of the Cwslide ActiveX Controls

    In design mode (Visual Studio 6.0),I want to programmatically change the fill color in properties of  cwslide  ActiveX Controls.what's the command?

    First, if you want to start getting beyond the basics with DAQ, you are going to have to stop using the DAQ assistant and do it with lower level DAQmx VI's.  There are hundreds of examples in the example finder.  You can even right click on the DAQ assistant and select open front panel.  That will create a subVI that you can open and see what is going on behind the scenes.  Do it.  I think you'll find the DAQ task is being recreated on each (though I'm not 100% of how the settings are established or maintained in each section of that subVI).
    The second problem is you have a bit of a race condition on iteration 0.  Those two DAQ property nodes are running at the same time.  So when you read the AI.Max, it may be happening before or after the AI.Max is set in your case structure.
    Third, make sure you wire up your error wires.

  • How can I apply a current fill color to a stroke, then adjust that stroke color's build?

    Hi all, I'm trying to figure out a way to automate a simple, yet repetative process I do countless times a day. Ideally, I'd like to tie it to a keystroke to speed up my workflow.
    I work on line art and colorways for footwear, so the way I'm coloring these shapes and strokes helps to break apart the different materials and pieces of the shoe.
    While coloring line art, I work with Pantone spot colors as fills for closed path objects. I then have to manually apply that same color to the stroke, set the stroke to 0.5px weight, convert that spot stroke color to CMYK, and add 15% to the K value.
    I found some code in an older post for applying the actively selected object's fill color to the stroke, but I'm having but I'm having trouble with the next step of figuring out how to take that spot stroke color and convert it to a CMYK build that I can then add 15% black to. Is this something that's even possible? I've spent about an hour playing with the script and have only had luck matching the fill color or turning the stroke white. Thanks for the help!

    ok try this one, I added the spot color option
    // make stroke color same as fill color + 15% black increase
    if ( app.documents.length > 0 && app.activeDocument.pathItems.length > 0) {
        for (var a=0; a<app.selection.length; a++) {
            try {
                    var sel = app.selection[a];
                    var fillcolor = sel.fillColor;
                    if (fillcolor.typename == "CMYKColor")
                        var cmkycolor = fillcolor;
                    else if (fillcolor.typename == "SpotColor")
                        var cmkycolor = fillcolor.spot.color;
                    var col = new CMYKColor;
                    col.cyan = cmkycolor.cyan;
                    col.magenta = cmkycolor.magenta;
                    col.yellow = cmkycolor.yellow;
                    var black = cmkycolor.black + cmkycolor.black +15;
                    col.black = black>100 ? 100 : black;
                    sel.strokeColor = col;
                    sel.strokeWidth = 0.5;

  • How can I put a colored border around the whole page?

    I just want to know how to pur a colored border around the whole page?

    Hi Rachel,
    Here's an example. Instructions follow the image:
    Start with a new, Blank word processing document.
    Insert a rectangle shape (the darker green is the default colour)
    Change the colour to your desired border colour, using the Fill Color well in the format bar.
    Set the Stroke to none, using the first popup menu on the Format bar. (I missed this step in the example, leaving the black line seen at the rigth edge of the pages.)
    Drag the handles to resize to shape to cover the whole page.
    Go to the View menu and choose Show Layout to see thae area that text will occupy.
    Insert a second rectangle shape on the page.
    Set its Fill colour to whatever bckground colour you want in the text area,
    Set the Stroke to none.
    Resize the second shape to fit just outside the text area indicated on the Layout.
    Select both shapes, then go Arrange > Group.
    Go Arrange > Move Object to Background.
    Go Format > Advanced > Move Object to Section Master.
    If either of:
    Go Arrange > Make Background Objects Selectable
    Go Format > Advanced > Make Maste Objects Selectable
    have checkmarks beside them,
    Select that item to uncheck it.
    The frame will now appear on every page in the section.

  • How to use AppleScript to set "character fill color" in Pages 5.2?

    For Pages 5.2 on OSX 10.9.3, what is the correct applescript for changing the "character fill" of text in pages.
    If you highlight text, you do this via your mouse in the inspector by clicking "style," "advanced option (the gear wheel to the right of bold, italics, and underline), "character fill color (clicking on the multi-color circle, not the dropdown menu), and then choosing a color that comes up in the "colors" dialogue box.
    I've looked all over and cannot find how to use applescript to set the character fill color in pages.
    In some examples (not directly related) I see "character fill" used.
    In others, I see "colorfill."
    Basically, I want to use applescript, embedded in a keyboard maestro macro, to change the background color of the text (not the text color itself) to particular colors.
    Given the changes and updates to Pages this year, and to applescript, what's the easy way to do this?
    Thanks!
    Chuck

    Pages v5.2 still does not include selection-object, or character background color entries in its AppleScript dictionary, as does Pages ’09. Indirectly, using System Events, you can get the text selection in Pages v5.2, but then you can do nothing to change the selection. No assurances as to if or when Apple will mature the AppleScript dictionary support for Pages v5 series.

  • How to change a swatch color without losing the "global" status

    Hiya Forum! AppleScripting-Newbie talking.
    For an automated EPS-export using AppleScript and Illustrator CS4 on a G5 Mac running Mac OS X I need to change a global swatch's color. It needs to go form black:75 to black:55 and remain global, thereby changing the color of all the path items in the document. It works very well with a doubleclick on the swatch.
    While changing the color seems to be quite trivial with "set properties of swatch to {color:{black:55}}", it then loses the global.
    All my beatiful boxes remain dark grey, looking awful and depressed.
    Please tell me there's a way to help me!
    Thank you very much!
    I hope I gave you all the information you may need. If I didn't please tell me so my next questions will be more accurate.

    Hi,
    I've had the same issue and I finally figured it out!
    I use Javascript.
    Global swatches are kept inside the active document as spot colors, so instead of swatches[i] you need to address spots[i].
    And then it works.

  • Fill color color on its own

    Hi! I'm having an issue on my Illustrator CC 2014.
    When I double click over the Fill color box, on the tool box, to change it, it show a tottaly different color.
    e.g I have a green object: 85.10.100.0
    I try to edit this color by doubble cliking over the FILL COLOR on the bottom of the tool box.
    It opens an editing window with a color picker on the left and SHOULD show the numbers of my object´s color on the right.
    Somehow it changes the color, showing a kind of grey color: 0.0.0.60!!! My green shows below that grey color, but is not quite my green, when I click over it the color is altered to: 85.15.99.3
    That does'nt make any sense.
    Can someone help me?

    Hi Martilaso1,
    Jacob is correct, since two colors are shown in the color suggestion area, click on the below color box to reach the expected behavior.
    Yes, it is bug and product engineering are working on it and hopefully we will get it fixed soon.
    Thanks for patience.

  • Why will the fill color only show in certain spots?

    I am trying to fill a garment with a color and it leaves white blanks, why is that?

    The area you are trying to fill is not a closed path. Try using Live Paint to fill the areas.

  • AS-CS3- Fill color of any paths, what are "plugin items"?

    I had a script that used to work in Illy 9 or 10. Now in CS3 I found it does not work 100% properly. I have some artwork that contains some "plugin items" on the page. WTH are these and how can I manipulate them? I've checked the item's properties and can't find a way to get the fill color or path item kind of data.
    Here's what my old script did: Get each path item on the document, check it's fill color. If fill color total (ink total) is over 290 then either set it to be only 100% black, or select the item and warn the user.
    This script is run by various PrePress people and other artists. Assume that no one knows where the document came from or how it was made. I am attaching a sample document you can check out. It appears like the "tree" object has been made by the Pathfinder filter but was not expanded. I can not assume that I can expand the object, artwork must stay the same except for color changes.
    Here is my current script:
    tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
    tell document 1
    set myCount to count path items
    set selected of every path item to false
    repeat with i from 1 to myCount
    try
    set myColorSum to ((cyan of fill color of path item i) + (magenta of fill color of path item i) + (yellow of fill color of path item i) + (black of fill color of path item i))
    if myColorSum is 400 then set fill color of path item i to {class:CMYK color info, cyan:30.0, magenta:20.0, yellow:20.0, black:100.0}
    if myColorSum > 290 and myColorSum < 400 then set selected of path item i to true
    end try
    end repeat
    set mySelectedPaths to count (path items whose selected is true)
    if (mySelectedPaths > 0) then display dialog "If you have any items with color sums over 290 then they are selected for you now (some have been fixed automatically). Please fix them, and run this again to verify. Gradients must be checked manually!" with icon 2
    if mySelectedPaths = 0 then display dialog "Document is OK -or- all items have been corrected. Save your document." buttons "OK" default button 1
    end tell
    end tell

    Thanks, I had a look at your sample file and the only route I can see is the expand that you don't want to use. You may just have to add the plugin items to the things the user has to check manually. The only thing that you can really do with plug in items is alter the trace options if it is a trace. Sorry.

  • How do I fill color into an object drawn with the brush tool?

    I'm watching a tutorial to learn more, and one think I still don't know is how to fill something with color that is drawn out via the brush tool. Say I draw a black circle and want to fill the color to green. I'm not talking about Live Paint were you select an object. I see in the tutorial the guys selects some tool but I can't see what it is.

    You can fill any closed path by simply setting its fill color in the color palette... Paths can be smoothed with teh smooth tool. Please refer to the online help for specifics. Just watching tutorials doesn't necessarily teach you everything....

  • How to change the color of an actual path...

    When creating an outline, I am often faced with the problem of finding back, points on my paths for adjustment. Sometimes it can get really frustrating. Is there a way to change the color of the path and points to contrast better against the underlying image ?
    Thank you.

    Create a solid color layer underneath, set it's opacity to about 50% so you can see what is underneath.
    Layer >> New Fill Layer >> Solid Color
    I also sometimes have a motorcycle tire against a black background so will create a dummy curves layer, to help find the edge of the tire.
