Fill color not same as color picker

Hey there, thanx for any help i can get... here is my problem... i am working in cmyk - U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2... i need to get a specific red and so i am going to print some tests...
c 0
m 100
y 90
k 0
i entered these values into my color box and then made a selection on a new layer... when i fill the selection with the color the new layer reads:
c 0
m 100
y 89
k 0
Every time... dont know what my problem can be... could it be a screen calibration issue... however i recalibrate every month.
thanx again for any suggestions.!

Some kind of rounding error looks like. CMYK always uses percentage when in fact its using a scale of 0 to 255, in each channel.
Behaves the same way for me too. I remember slight discrepancies like this in my CMYK days.  The color can be CORRECTED to 0.100.90.0, but like you say choosing this as a foreground and filling, results in an incorrect yellow value by one point. CMYK profile is irrelevant.
Take a curve and pull the yellow 100 input to 99. Honestly in the real wolrld printing is so inaccurate that single percentage values make no difference.

  • Printed colors not same as in Lightroom 3.2

Trying to print from Lightroom 3.2 and prints have a magenta tint to them. They look great in Lightroom on the monitor but the results are not the same. I'm pinting on a Canon IP6700D and using a profile to control the color. I'm running Lightroom on a Windows 7 64 bit machine. How do I get the colors to match?
    Chuck

You didn't make it clear what profile you are using.  Two profiles are necessary for colour management of printing - a monitor profile, and a printer/paper profile from the printer manufacturer or the paper supplier.
It is also necessary to ensure that all colour management in the printer driver is disabled.

  • Color not showing proper color

Okay, I just got the whole works.
macpro 4gb ram with the x1900 card and the Final Cut Studio 2
    Final cut (awesome) as usual.
I take a sequence, save, send to color.
    comes in just fine.
problem is that the image is 'waaaaay' washed out in color. Looks fine in FCP. But WAY washed out in color and the preview image is pretty grainy too.. any adjustments only make the image look even more bizarre.
The problem persists whether im bringing in and NTSC DV sequence, or HD 720p sequence, same thing.
    Is there something im missing?

I'm monitoring on a LG flatron L226WT via DVI (single link)
But all my other files in all my other software work great on it, even final cut. It's only when I send it to 'color' that the image gets all wanky..

  • IWeb 09 - Color picker not selecting matching color

I have tried to use the color picker to match colors in iWeb 09 and it seems impossible to match the colors. I go to the color picker and use the magnifying glass to try to match an existing color and the selected color is not exactly the same as the color I am trying to match. Very frustrating. I have searched and other folks have been reporting similar problems.

When are you seeing the mismatch? In iWeb after applying the magnifying glass or after publishing? What are you trying to match? Backgounds? Objects? Text?
It's been noted that after publication some colors have been changed in the css file from the rgb alpha code it was originally set to to the # number code (or vise versa - I don't remember which) which changes the published color slightly. Tried to find the topic just now but couldn't.
Definitely a bug to be reported to http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html.
If you're trying to match a page background to a browser background and you're not using a theme that uses images for it's background you can set the page background to none and let the browser background color work for both areas.

  • Color picker color does not match object color - CS3

Hi - in RGB Illustrator doc, when I select RGB color in color picker and assign to object, the color in the object is not the same as the color I selected from the color picker.
I think its related to view>>proof colors because if I proof using my LCD monitor colorspace, the color in the object and the color picker match but then they don't match the color in the palettes color box.
But that's a kludge because ultimately I want to proof color onscreen using my color printer profile.
has anyone seen this? Never had this problem with CS2.
    Using CS3 with Leopard.
    Thanks

    Hi,
What you describe we recognized in Photoshop. We solved the issue going to the Paint Bucket Tool.
There you can select e.g. Anti Alias, Contiguous, All Layers. With selecting (ticking) the option 'All Layers' the problem was solved. The options Anti Alias and Contiguous were already selected.
    Good luck!!!

  • Photshop CS5 paint bucket colors do not match selected color picker colors

I recently installed CS5 on my laptop after first removing it from my previous machine.
All licences were validated so no problems there.
Now when using paint bucket in photoshop, the colors that I select in the color picker are not the colors that result when I use the paint bucket.
If I create a new black canvas then the colors selected in color picker work with paint bucket.
But if I attempt to recolor the background in an existing image that I import into photoshop, I get the mismatch with colors when I use paint bucket. My method for selecting colors is the same in each case, I select 'set foreground color' and set the color using html values entry at the bottom of the panel.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Try changing Image > Mode to RGB – does the Tool work as expected then?
    To quote from the Help:
    Indexed Color mode
Indexed Color mode produces 8-bit image files with up to 256 colors. When converting to indexed color, Photoshop builds a color lookup table (CLUT), which stores and indexes the colors in the image. If a color in the original image does not appear in the table, the program chooses the closest one or uses dithering to simulate the color using available colors.
Although its palette of colors is limited, indexed color can reduce file size yet maintain the visual quality needed for multimedia presentations, web pages, and the like. Limited editing is available in this mode. For extensive editing, you should convert temporarily to RGB mode. Indexed color files can be saved in Photoshop, BMP, DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine), GIF, Photoshop EPS, Large Document Format (PSB), PCX, Photoshop PDF, Photoshop Raw, Photoshop 2.0, PICT, PNG, Targa®, or TIFF formats.

why not put a color picker in photoshop benchmarks?

Your message says "Photoshop" in the subject, but what does a color picker have to do with benchmarks?  Could you explain more clearly what you're hoping to see accomplished?
Are you wanting to see a color picker operated 10,000 times to see how many seconds it takes to do that?
Is there an underlying problem, such as slowness in the operation of your color picker, that you're trying to expose here?

  • Picking colors with same lightness/saturation?

I'm working with the Color Picker and I select a green color on the left side square and I now want to pick other colors with the same level of lightness/darkeness and saturation for other shapes. Do I just leave the circle in the same position on the left side square and move the slider on the right side to a blue or red to get colors that work well together?
If so, by doing this, how are these colors described? Hues with the same lightness and saturation levels?
    Thanks.

ill a path with the color.
    Go to Color Guides Panel
and choose the method you would like to see the colors.
You can click on the color quide swatches to see vartiants
You can make these into swatches and create a color group with the swatches panel.
You can then color you art and then later Use the Edit>Edit Color>ReColor Art and use the color weel to preview live color harmonies of different color ranges.
You have to read about the color guide and the color harmonies and recolor art feature and how to link the colors in the recolor art feaature from the help files.

  • Calendar colors not the same...

In iCal, I have four different calendars each with their own color: blue, green, red, and orange. The calendar colors on the iPhone are all scrambled. How do I fix this? What am I missing? Thanks!

After playing around for some time and reading many blogs and posts with suggestions, I tried MobileMe as well.
It did not solve the color problem for me and on top of that if gave me a new problem with not syncing ical subscriptions.
The problems are so massive and wide spread that Apple has to fix them, and I'm pretty confident they will. We will probably see a round of updates and all of a sudden it will work like we all expect from a premium product like the iPhone and MobileMe.
The disappointing part is that Apple gave us a service which has a bunch of little problems and is basically not quite ready yet. And I bet that's exactly what it is, they simply ran out of time and had to push a product into the marked, before they were quite finished with it.
This is disappointing but not uncommon with everything computer. However, they should keep us informed so that we can stop guessing! "Sorry folks, we have a bunch of problems here. We will subsequently fix them over the next couple of weeks and we apologize for the inconvenience!" This is the least I would expect as a loyal customer.

  • Exported video color not the same as canvas

When I export my project in Motion 5.1 using the default setting for Render: Color + Alpha, Premultiply alpha checked, and the rest of the setting set for "Use canvas setting" and the co-dec Pro Res 422 (HQ), the colors I see on the canvas come out as wash out looking in the exported video. Deep reds come out as light pink. I tried setting the project background (black) as solid instead of transparent thinking that that was the issue but there was no difference. I tried different co-decs and settings in the options before export without any luck. What am I missing here?
Thanks in advance for any help in this matter.

Thank you for your reply.  I set to Color only and unchecked premultiply alpha and exported with the same results: Color wash out.
I used the default Canvas settings when I created the project from a .psd file supplied to me from the designer so what would be the "properly" set Canvas setting?  Normally when I export I just use the "Use canvas setting" for all of the parameters in the Render tab in Export.
I use QuickTime for viewing the exports.  Please let me know any more specific info you might need to help you answer this question.
    Thank you

  • Color not displaying correctly

ive recently noticed that my colors arent displaying correctly ive already deleted the Illustrator settings folder to reset all preferences to default but the color problem is still happening i have my color ooptions this way
    im using adobe illustrator cs5
    Color to CMYK
    Color Guide: Show Tins/Shades
this is what i mean im trying to get the color i see in the color picker

The Color Picker is unreliable for choosing colors based on what you see because it is not color managed while Color panel and Swatches are.
In your image, the color that you see in the Color Picker is how your monitor displays R=0 G=255 B=0. The color that you see in the Color Panel represents the same values in the file but the color management sends different values to the video card and thus to the monitor to display a color with appearance in the color space selected for the document. In your image this is a CMYK color space which you can check from the Show popup menu at the bottom left of the document window. To check the different values the video card is using, make a screen capture, save the image, open it in Illustrator and measure the color with the eyedropper. The color translation from the values in the file to the video card allows simulation of color spaces other than your monitor's. This simulation is accurate if you have a monitor profile installed in your system that correctly describes how your monitor displays colors. Such profile is created by using a color measuring device and profiling software. If your monitor profile (color space) installed in the system is the same as the color space of the document then there will be no translation (simulation) which in effects shuts down the color management - then the colors in the Color Picker will be the same as in the document. Many people do not bother to get an accurate profile of their monitor and use a generic sRGB profile for that. In such case working in RGB color mode using the sRGB color space (default in the Color Settings) will give the same colors in the Color Picker and the document. This usually is a sign of using a monitor that incorrectly displays colors.

  • Why is my printer HP Officejet 6600 using color ink even though I'm not printing in color?

I've had this printer about a year now. I've replaced the entire line of ink cartridges at least 3 times now, working on 4. I don't print much at all. A couple of sheets a day or so. I always thought that it was using color ink very quickly so I thought I'd put it to a test. I changed the default settings to black ink only. I replaced all of the ink cartiridges, color and black. I decided this time I wouldn't print anything in color just to see what happened. Well the same thing is happening as if I were using color ink. The color ink is draining out much quicker than the black ink. This seems weird to me. Now we are at the point where it won't print unless I replace the magentia cartridge. This also seems unfair that they do not mention this clearly when you purchase the item. Something like "Oh, by the way, we aren't making enough money doing business as we should, so we will make you replace your ink supply even though it really isn't necessary and that should pick up the slack". I've paid for a new printer already with ink costs. Is there a way to get around this or am I stuck with it. Thanks.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

When you set the printer to print in grayscale did you also select "Black ink only"?
HP and other printer manufacturers have different printer technologies for different needs.
Some have printheads built into the ink cartridges.  These printers can typically print with one or more of the colors completely empty, or even with color or black (but not both) cartridges removed. The Deskjet 6980 series is an example.
Other printers have separate ink supplies and replaceable printheads.  An example would be the Officejet 8600 printer.  The printhead in these printers can be replaced if they are damaged by running the printhead with colors out.  Some of these printers will allow printing with a color out, other will not.  If the printer is run without ink in one or more colors the printer may be damaged, but the user may be able to recover without having to send the printer for service.
Other printers have permanent printheads.  To run these without some ink in all the colors would risk causing damage to the printhead due to clogs, air ingested in the printheadvor burned out printhead firing resistors. The Photosmart 6600 series is an example of this type of printer. For printers with fixed printheads this could require service to get the printer to print properly again when the ink is finally replaced.
The document here describes how ink is used.  While the document is written for HP Inkjet printers the same principles apply to inkjet printers from other manufacturers.
