Fill layer with color

pse13  I am trying to fill layer.  The layer has a small rectangle on it and nothing else.  When I fill layer, it fills the entire canvas, not just the rectangle!  This used to work!

Go to File>new>blank file. Enter w, h, and resolution, & background color. This will be the canvas.
Set up the Rectangular marquee tool to fixed size, enter w & h dimensions for the rectangle
Use the Paint-bucket tool to fill the rectangle with color of choice as determined by the foreground color chip.

  • Keyboard shortcut for filling layer with color are opposite on my PS CS6 OSX install, Help?

    Hello all,
    I'm a bit of a noob, and following a tutorial….and found something strange and wonder if you might help me figure what's happening.
    I have Photoshop Extended CS6 on a macbook pro (late 2011).
    I'm running OSX v 10.7.5
    I'm following along and the instructor added a new layer. I did this.
    He then filled the layer with white which is his background color (he has black foreground, white background). I have the same fore/background colors.
    Now, I thought on mac that to fill with foreground color you hit Apple+Delete  and to fill with background you hit Option+Delete
    It is doing the exact OPPOSITE for me. I hit Apple+Delete (or even backspace)  and it fills with my background color which is white
    If I hit Option+Delete (or backspace) it fills with my foreground color.
    I've tried looking in the Edit Keyboard shortcuts area…but I don't see these settings anywhere.
    I do have an external keyboard  hooked to my mac. It is a 3rd party one, but seems to work in ever other way normally.
    Keyboard here is:  http://pckeyboard.com/page/UKBD/UB40P4A
    Any suggestions why my keyboard shortcut for filling a layer with color might be reversed?
    Thanks in advance,
    CC

    a 1 second google search would have informed you of this.
    Thanks for the reply.
    I did do a Google and I got this:
    http://blog.coghillcartooning.com/84/tip-keyboard-shortcut-to-fill-a-photoshop-layer-or-se lection-with-the-background-or-foreground-color/
    And from that I got the option-delete was background, and apple-delete was foreground.
    Hence my confusion...
    Thanks for the reply, I guess I should check 2-3 sites each time I google for keyboard shortcuts for PS.

  • Fill image with color

    Hello, please help me to find the answer.I have an image (doesn't matter
    what format it is. I can use most suitable, even export from Photoshop can be used).
    I would like to fill it with color. Is it possible to do it using JavaFX?
    Here is an example. PNG image (please, see the link ) with transparent alpha and black color. Is it
    possible to replace black color programmatically?
    As I've read there is some plugin for Photoshop that allows to export work in JavaFX readable format, is it possible to realize my idea with the help of this Photoshop plugin?

    I've tried it with
    1. bind instruction:
        paint: Color.LIGHTBLUE
        width: bind image.width
        height: bind image.height2. without bind:
        paint: Color.LIGHTBLUE
        width: image.width
        height: image.height3. without bind and with additional pixels:
        paint: Color.LIGHTBLUE
        width: image.width+100
        height: image.height+100
    +100 is random number. I should print image.width and image.height before declaring effect blend.
    File is situated in the same package with fx file. I think it doesn't take too much time to load img.
    I know dimensions of image, but I would like to work with abstract image, it's not good to hardcode dimensions or ask user about image dimensions. User is not a professional and he doesn't have to know such dull things :)

  • Photoshop CS6 - How can javaScript fill blank layer with color?

    Hello,
    I'm a production artist and I work with PSD files that were created in Adobe Scene7 Image Authoring Tool. These PSDs contain a background layer along with 1-20 alpha channels. My script has to make new blank layers based on the number of alpha channels and then it has to fill the new layers with light gray. The RGB values are 161, 161, 161. I checked the PSCS6 JavaScript Reference pdf, but I don't see a method that would do this for artLayers. (Let me also say that I'm new to javaScript).
    Does anyone know how to fill a blank layer with these RGB values?
    Here's my script so far:
    #target photoshop
    // declare variable to contain the active document
    var myDoc=app.activeDocument;
    // declare variable to contain the number of alpha channels, excluding the RGB channels
    var alphaChan = myDoc.channels.length - 3;
    // create loop to make new layers based on number of alpha channels and fill each layer with gray
    for (a=0; a<alphaChan; a=+1){
    myDoc.artLayers.add();
    if (myDoc.artLayers.length == (alphaChan + 1)) {
        break;

    var color = new SolidColor();
    color.rgb.red = 161;
    color.rgb.green = 161;
    color.rgb.blue= 161;
    myDoc.selection.fill(color);

  • Photoshop CS6 Beta does NOT fill Layer with 50% Gray when in CMYK-Mode

    1. Open a CMYK-Document
    2. Create a new empty Layer
    3. Use the "Fill..." command with the option "50% Grey"
    4. Result should be: 50% Cyan, 50% Magenta, 50% Yellow, 50% Black, but is 49% Cyan, 40% Magenta, 39% Yellow, 27% Black
    -> while this function is normally used to create a layer with the blending mode "Overlay" to have a basis for an "invisible" layer where you can lighten/darken the image or add noise to it, the function "fill with 50% Grey" is malfunctioning now, because this affects an image modification instead of being invisible.

    There's a definite difference between Photoshop CS5 and CS6:
    Noting that the B value is now 50% in the HSB readout, could it be that this may be an intentional redefinition of ''50% Gray''?

  • Filling paths with color in Photoshop CS4

    I am working in Photoshop CS4...have been for years.  All of a sudden, when I try to fill a closed path with a color, it fills the entire artboard with color, except not inside the path.  I have not selected "inverse" or anything....and it has never done this before....I can't figure out why it has started doing this, and I can't get it to stop.  Most of the paths in my file, I have made in Illustrator and  then pasted into Photoshop...they work normally....it is just the ones I actually draw in photoshop that are doing this....one thing I have noticed is that in the paths palette, the paths I pasted in from Illustrator have a grey background.....while the paths I actually drew in photoshop have a white background.....any ideas, anybody????

    Quote from the Help:
    Choose one of the following in the options bar:
    Add To Shape Area
    Adds the new area to the existing shapes or path.
    Subtract From Shape Area
    Removes the overlapping area from the existing shapes or path.
    Intersect Shape Areas
    Restricts the area to the intersection of the new area and the existing shapes or path.
    Exclude Overlapping Shape Areas
    Excludes the overlap area in the consolidated new and existing areas.

  • How to isolate part of my workspace and use paint bucket to fill it with color?

    Here is my situation:  I want to draw a vertical line on the left-hand side of my workspace about an inch away (to the right) from the left edge.   Then I want to fill up that inch-wide column with a particular color.  The end result being that I will have an inch-wide bar of color running vertically down the left side of my project.
    I know this is probably really easy to do but it's been a long time since I had a course in Photoshop.
    I use PSE 6.  Thanks!

    Something like this:
    1. Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to draw the rectangular selection
    2. Select the Paint Bucket Tool
        Add a new blank layer
        (so it's easy to change later)
        Click on the foreground color chip in the toolbox and set your color for the fill
        Click inside the selection with the paint bucket tool
        Select>Deselect
    You can use the rulers to see how far an inch is in your document

  • I have a question about the calendar on the ipad2. I have multiple calendars in different colors. Some of the events are filled in with color. Others are just listed with a colored dot in front of the event. Any ideas why events ar showing up differently?

    I have an ipad2 and my question is about the calendar. I set up multiple calendars with different colors. Some of the events show up in filled color. Others only show with a colored dot in front of the event. I can't figure out why some show up one way and others show up differently? Any thoughts?

    On mine the ones that show on a coloured background are all-day events, the ones with dots and just timed events.

  • Form filled out with colors, but when opened in adobe reader they are black

    I have filled out a form with custom colors used in the accesability settings, but when I save the document and open it adobe reader they filled in fonts are black.
    Is there a way to maintain the accesability colours when printing and opening in adobe reader ?

    Accessibility settings are a personal preference. They are set by each
    user (or, if you have Reader and Acrobat, in each one). Above all,
    they are very much NOT saved in a document, because each user needs to
    be able to set their own.

  • Is it possible to fill images with color in Keynote???

    I have a map of europe I made in Photoshop showing different empires before World War I. Is it possible to apply a colorize effect to my layers when I bring them into Keynote.
    I would prefer to decide what colors the layers should be in Keynote rather than in Photoshop.
    Also can Keynote import a multi-layered photoshop file?
    Thanks very much in advance.

    You could also try using a map that has the countries included as vectors. Here's a PowerPoint file I found.
    http://www.presentationmagazine.com/world-maps-vector-editable-507.htm
    Then, you can set the fill just as you're thinking about. You could even make the fill an image this way.

  • Random error fills screen with colored pixels and then reboots, OSX 10.6.8 2010 iMac intel Core2Duo, help?

    Hi all,
    random error I'm guessing something to do with video drivers that replaces the screen with a bunch of colored pixels.
    I'm not sure if the computer is still responding and it's just a screen issue, but I do see a little square move when I move the mouse.
    I'm uploading a picture of the error.

    Any ideas?

    I've updated everything to the latest version of Leopard.

    v10.6.7 is Snow Leopard not Leopard and there is a v10.6.8 update available.
    Click your Apple menu  /  Software Update
    Restart your Mac after the update is installed.
    Same problem exists then run the Using Apple Hardware Test

  • Can I scan  line art (B&W drawings) into Elements and then fill them with color?

    In Photoshop CS I could do this. Can this be done with Elements? All I see under "IMPORT" is importing from a camera. Can I import something I have scanned as well?

    I see you’re in Tiger and I’m running Leopard. If I remember correctly, in Tiger it’s something like Print > PDF > Quartz Filter > Gray Tone. In Leopard, it”s
    Print > PDF > Open PDF in Preview > Save As > Quartz Filter > Gray Tone.
    If Quartz Filter doesn’t directly follow PDF there may be a menu that says Filter and then Quartz Filter. My memory, to quote Henric, is “porous.”

  • Grouping Adjustment layer with Gradient Fill layer

    Page 151 of "The Missing Manual" suggests that one should be able to group a Levels Adjustment layer with a Gradient Fill layer so that the levels adjustment fades out to one side.
    If I understand this correctly, the setup would be:
    Levels Adjustment Layer (grouped with layer below)
    Gradient Fill layer (with a gradient from Opaque to Transparent)
    Photo in Background layer
    but I cannot get the desired effect of original picture on one side blending through to adjusted levels on the other.
    I can get the desired effect if I dispense with the Gradient Fill layer and simply manually create the gradient on the mask of the Levels Adjustment layer but this loses the advantage of easy adjustment of the gradient.
    [Thanks to those who answered my question about linking a mask to a layer. As this is a separate query, I thought it best to start a new topic]

    Sanders1,
    I thought I'd try it, myself, and got results that I did not expect...
    http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1OVdT0C7oX46DsPm6TrfT5xxrm3h
    1 - The background image.
    2 - I created a Gradient Fill layer using color (red) to transparent.
    3 - I created a Levels Adjustment layer, set to reduce red and green,
    leaving a blue image.
    4 - I grouped the Levels Adjustment layer with the Gradient Fill layer.
    Is this the type of result you are seeing? I wonder what is the logic.

  • Fill layer

    I have a picture which I added a duplicate background layer.  I then added a fill layer--solid color.,  I am trying to erase parts o
    f the fill layer to allow parts of the background duplicate layer to show through.  It will not erase--says its a shape layer and ha
    s to do something with the vector mask.  I did this all the time in my elements 6.0 and it worked fine.  I have not added a shape la
    yer and dont know why it keeps saying that.  When I said okay to that message, it erased but will not put the opacity back to 100% w

    With the eraser you can only adjust the flow. Try using a brush instead of the eraser. At the bottom of the tools pallet set the foreground color to black. Select a brush size, choose darken for the mode and 100% for opacity.

  • Photoshop in Adobe RGB 16 bit don't fill a layer with paint bucket and a color 35.40.35.100.

    I create a new file in RGB profile Adobe RGB 16bit
    take the paint bucket and fill the layer with a color created by selector with the following parameters 35.40.35.100 CMYK and RGB corresponds to 24.20.18 the result is a full level of color 76.73.63.9 but in RGB corresponds to 24.20.18 because the values in cmyk not match ??

    Could you please post screenshots (with the pertinent Panels visible) to illustrate the issue?
    Are you not aware that you cannot reliably define a CMYK color in RGB because the transformation is performed through the Profile Connection Space (Lab) and depends on the involved Color Spaces/ICC profiles (edited) and the Color Settings?
