Fill screen with zoom for small photo sizes (as in slideshow)?

Front facing iPhone 4S camera sized photos are too small in iPhoto. Is it possible to set a default to fill screen with zoom for all photo sizes (as in slideshow)? Seems like the old iPhoto worked like this.

That's what I was afraid of!  I wish it would still scale photos to fill the window also if they're smaller  than the window size (not just 100%), like it used to in older versions of iPhoto. Especially irritating, since the problem photos are from an Apple product, the front facing camera of the iPhone4s.  I already added my complaint to "feedback".
Thanks anyway.

  • What's the best settings to Export movie for smaller file sizes?

    Hi, I've been working on some helmet cam footage which was taken with Xvidmpeg4.avi and was advised to convert it to dvavi for editing in PrE, this created a huge file to work with, the original footage was 206mb and the finished edited dvavi file is now 1.56gb, what settings can I use to export the movie with a much smaller file size, but hopefully try to retain some quality, to upload to places like Vimeo? I thought I would try to export it in the same as the original footage Xvidmpeg4.avi thinking this might compress it again to something like the 206mb of the original and the original was good quality footage, but PrE just hangs up with a box stating 'Xvid Status (Not Responding)' and when I try to cancel that the whole thing crashes and closes? So when I go to File > Export > Movie, what would be the best settings in:
    General > File Type ?
    Video > Compressor
    lots of options under compressor if I select the file type as Microsoft AVI, so I'm guessing something under that would compress it to a smaller file size but what, I could spend all night trying different settings so hoping for some advice?
    Or, if I'm completely in the wrong place for the settings and should be doing something else please tell me?
    Thanks, Gav

    Thanks for the replies, but to me it's still confusing - simply because there are so many settings, if I go to Share/Personal Computer I'm then presented with a whole load of settings
    NTSC Flash Video
    MPEG
    DVAVI
    Windows Media
    QuickTime
    and under each of those is a lot more advanced settings?
    I'm guessing I wouldn't use flash or quicktime, so which of the others would I use and what are the advanced settings to use as I can't find anything that is .wmv or .mov
    What I've done with other videos that I've exported from PrE as dvavi is then to put it through Windows Movie Maker, Publish Movie, This Computer, then put the settings to Windows Media DVD Quality (PAL) (3.0 Mps) - this seemed to be the only setting that reduced the file size considerably but still had good quality, but it's still about twice the original file size?
    This all seems long winded to me, open original file, convert original file, output another file, then output the file again in something else which then results in loss of quality and a larger file than the original? I'm ending up with lots of files, was hoping just to edit in Premiere then export/publish that edited clip and that would be it, then upload to the net.
    Is it not possible to just edit my original footage and save it, just like you would with something like a word document, should I be using something else and not Premiere?
    Thanks.

  • I have albums in my iMAC with description for each photo that I can show up on slide show so that I know the place that is in the photo. If I synchronize my photos to iPOD, I am unable to get the Descriptions also copied. How do I ensure this?

    I have two questions:
    1) I have multiple logins in my iMAC. How do I move photos/albums from one login to another?
    2) I have created albums with "Description" for each photos, so that, in a slide show, any one can see what is being shown on the photo. When I sync albums to my iPOD, the "Descriptions" are not getting copied. How do I ensure that the "Descriptions" also get copied so that it can be a real back-up?
    Thanks

    Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto thumbnails - this may take several tries
    Also what version of iPhoto? What recently changed?

  • Uncheck "Fill screen with one page at a time"

    Is it possible to set a javascript to turn off the preference "Fill screen with one page at a time" when entering in Full Screen mode? So that way, it will override Acrobat or Reader application preferences when the PDF is open on users computers.

    Everything that's supported is documented here: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/11/Acrobat11_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.89.768.html
    Unfortunately, what you want isn't supported.

  • Layer style screen pops up for each photo in Automate Batch processing

    Please HELP! I managed to re-record an existing Action without problem. I double click on <Set Layer style on current layer> and change to a new Layer Style for my Watermark Text. The <Contour> is Linear. The Actions panel turns red during editing.
    But when I run > Automate > Batch and select that edited Action, the <Layer Style> screen pops-up for each photo and the only way to finish the batch of photos is to click <OK> for each photo. I’m using Photoshop CS5. I have refresh Photoshop, restart my laptop but the problem remains.
    I did another copy of the original Action and just changed the
    value in <Text Layer> and it works in the Batch processing. This problem only happens when I changed the value in the <Layer Style>.
    I have been looking into many forums and still could not find the solution. I appreciate some advice as soon as possible as this problem has dragged on for two weeks now.
    Thank you in advance.

    As silly as it sounds to be, I found a way out!
    I decided to change the value again in the <Layer Style> on the same Action (ie Main WM Name 70 copy), and RUN <Automate> and on second RUN the <Layer Style> screen doesn't pop-up!
    I just couldn't believe my eyes and did some rounds of testing! And it works:
    a)Firstly, I will change the <Layer Style> to any value and saved it
    (Just to test it, I Run <Automate> and the <Layer Style> screen pops-up at each photo)
    b)Then I change again the <Layer Style> to the actual value I want
    c)Run <Automate> without the <Layer Style> screen pops-up
    To test further, oddly enough, if I change the <Layer Style> value the 3rd time, the pops-up screen appear again! And to overcome the same problem, I have to change the value 4th time, and the problem disappears.
    So simple solution (at least for me) and yet I cracked my head for two weeks to overcome it!
    Thanks for your time, c.pfaffenbichier.

  • Any way to Fill Screen with a Photo?

    In this day of massive monitor screens it would be nice when flicking through images, to upscale the photos on screen up to the size of the monitor and not just a small shot in the middle of a big black screen. When viewing an individual shot in iPhoto you can zoom into a photo to frame it nicely filling the screen, but then as soon as you go to the next shot, and then back again that earlier photo, it is back to its small size again.
    Many of my thousands of photos are smaller than the screen size (shot and scanned in the eighties and nineties) that all the shareware programs (Toucan, PhotoGrid) allow you to view: A). Upscaled to fill the screen fully; B). Expanded to fill the screen only to the larger dimension of the photo leaving black bars; C). Show at actual pixel size Some even have in addition, a "cap scaling to 200%" feature so the pixels don't get too massive. The slideshow mode in iPhoto does the first option only, loping off large portions of the image. But I just want some of this functionality in the normal, non-slideshow viewing mode. Is their a way to do this in iPhoto or a thirt party plugin maybe? I'm ready to move to another Photo-DB type app.

    You can, however, quickly expand the size by pressing the '2' key which will display it at 200% scale. (Pressing '0' will size it to fit - unless it is smaller than the screen and then it will do 100% - and pressing '1' will size it at 100%.)
    Absent that, you just have to use the zoom slider - which is capped at 200% anyway.

  • HT204379 Why does my screen saver "zoom" in on photos from my iPhoto?  Can I stop it from doing this?

    I've recently moved up to Mtn Lion on a new MacBook Pro.
    I finally figure out how to connect my iPhoto images with my screen saver (the way I alswyas did on previous Macs).
    But the weird thing is that the Screen Saver zooms in on the photos!  Sometime choosing a very uninteresting part of the photo to suddenly enlarge on my screen!
    What gives with that?  Can I stop it from doing this?  It's like cropping my originals - many of which I have already cropped ...
    Appreciate any help that you can give on this.

    The only fix here is to find a third-party screen saver that supports the behavior you want. Apple has adjusted its screen saver options over the years, and the latest ones are what you see in the system preferences.
    The only way to change these behaviors is to hack the screen savers. The effects descriptions and some of the behaviors have settings in this folder:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Slideshows.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Cont ent
    There may be a way to modify one of those settings to prevent the zooming for the given set of screen savers (or at least one of them), but I would not recommend modifying these files arbitrarily as you might break something (or at least make sure you have a full and restorable backup you can access before doing so). There are a couple of known modifications to them that can adjust some behaviors, but image zooming isnt one I know of.

  • Spinning Beach Ball Delay with "Look for Shared Photos" Checked

    We installed iLife '06 on our school computers - all 500 of them - this fall. It is version 6.0.4. However, upon launch, there is a long delay of about 2-4 minutes with a spinning beach ball that we've determined takes place because iphoto is looking for shared libraries. We have one shared library on the network at this time, but sometimes teachers turn on sharing, or have in the past.
    Last year, we were using iPhoto '04 and had no problems like this at all -shared libraries appeared immediately, just as quickly as shared libraries in itunes still do.
    Has anyone experienced this - is there a known issue? Or should I look for a network problem.

    Solved this problem myself. It was a dns issue. For some reason, when iphoto looks for shared photo's, it does a reverse lookup on the ip of any machine it finds that has sharing turned on. If there is no reverse lookup zone on your dns server running OS X then it locks up as it repeatedly sends the request. Simply creating a reverse zone for the ip address range of your clients makes the bug go away. Why it needs to do a reverse lookup is beyond me.

  • Sleep mode wakeup with black screen with curser for a few seconds

    when the computer goes to sleep, sometimes when i click anybutton, it gives me a black screen with a curer and then it apparing everything normally. whats the problem causing this

    I have the same problem but I do not know of any solutions. I am searching for one as well.
    Let me rephrase the issue I experience. After the display goes off because of the energy saving settings, and after moving the mouse (or pushing a key) to wake it up, the screen appears black (but with the presence of the mouse cursor, which can move and even change shape---to a hand or a hyphen---if the pad is clicked) and stays black for a couple of seconds, from 3 to 10 seconds I believe.
    The computer is not responsive after that but not before. The previous and normal behavior is intead for the screen to turn on immediately and the computer being responsive right away. Instead, now there is a window of 3-10 seconds where the screen is black with a cursor and the computer unresponsive.
    Of course, it is very frustrating. Please help.

  • Black Screen with Audio for Downloaded TV Shows from iTunes

    Hi,
    When I try to watch TV shows that I downloaded from the iTunes store..I just get a black screen with audio. I've tried un-installing and re-installing. I'm currently running version 10.1.1.4 on my Win XP Pro machine. I downloaded the entire "Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors" series and cannot get a single ep to give a picture. I've heard that quite a few people are having this issue. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Nic

    I can get a picture with Quicktime...but if I try to get enlarge the screen, the picture often becomes corrupted. I'm just rather annoyed that I spent $40 on this series and am having these issues. I only downloaded iTunes because there was no other option of getting this show. I've waited 24 years to see the entire "Liberty Stone" Mini-series (there was a problem with the tapes DIC released and they were missing eps)...so this just feels like a taunt.
    I'm hoping this gets fixed quickly. It sounds like there is a lack of standardization with the DRM being used on these files.

  • Random error fills screen with colored pixels and then reboots, OSX 10.6.8 2010 iMac intel Core2Duo, help?

    Hi all,
    random error I'm guessing something to do with video drivers that replaces the screen with a bunch of colored pixels.
    I'm not sure if the computer is still responding and it's just a screen issue, but I do see a little square move when I move the mouse.
    I'm uploading a picture of the error.
    I've updated everything to the latest version of Leopard.
    2010 intel iMac
    OSX 10.6.7
    Any ideas?

    I've updated everything to the latest version of Leopard.
    2010 intel iMac
    OSX 10.6.7
    v10.6.7 is Snow Leopard not Leopard and there is a v10.6.8 update available.
    Click your Apple menu  /  Software Update
    Restart your Mac after the update is installed.
    Same problem exists then run the Using Apple Hardware Test
    Might be a bad graphics card.

  • Small photo size

    This may seem a really obvious question, but....
    Whenever I view my photos (taken with an 8 megapixel Nikon) on iPhoto they are a good size, and expand well when I view them in full screen. However, whenever I view them in Finder and double click on them, they appear much smaller and pixelate when I zoom in. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

    using the finder is not a supported way of accessing the iPhoto library - it is prone to user mistakes and often users get the wrong version of the photo
    Besides the finder is not a photo viewer - you are using some photo viewer - maybe Preview?????
    What are you wanting to do? in the program you are using to view the photos (and it is better to just use iPhoto for many reasons including ease of use and of finding the photo) use the program open command and in the lower right hand corner of the open window use the media browser (media ==> photos ==> iPhoto)  --  <a href="http://web.me.com/larryhn/iPhoto_08_(version_7.x.x)_FAQ/Accessing_iPhoto_Photos. html"> click here for a discussion on the many correct and safe ways to access your iPhoto library photos.</a>

  • OracleDataAdapter.Fill returns incorrect data for small numbers.

    Hi All,
    Recently we moved to Oracle client 11.1.0.7.20 with ODP.NET and instant client.
    And we encountered the following issue.
    When FetchSize of the command is set to any value that differs from default for some number fields with size <5 incorrect values are returned.
    I used the following code to reproduce the issue:
    var query = "SELECT * FROM RT ORDER BY ID";
    var connectionString = "Data Source=(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=server)(PORT=1531)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=test)));User Id=user;Password=password;";
    var column = "IS_LEAF"; // data type is NUMBER(1, 0)
    using (var connection = new OracleConnection(connectionString))
    using (var cmd1 = connection.CreateCommand())
    using (var cmd2 = connection.CreateCommand())
    cmd1.CommandText = query;
    cmd2.CommandText = query;
    cmd2.FetchSize = 512*1024; // 512K
    var adapter1 = new OracleDataAdapter(cmd1);
    var table1 = new DataTable();
    adapter1.Fill(table1);
    var adapter2 = new OracleDataAdapter(cmd2);
    var table2 = new DataTable();
    adapter2.Fill(table2);
    for (int i = 0; i < table1.Rows.Count; i++)
    var row1 = table1.Rows;
    var row2 = table2.Rows[i];
    if (!object.Equals(row1[column], row2[column]))
    Console.WriteLine(string.Format("values don't match: {0}, {1}", row1[column], row2[column]));
    there are some ouput lines:
    values don't match: 0, 3328
    values don't match: 0, 3
    values don't match: 1, 3
    values don't match: 0, 318
    values don't match: 0, 264
    values don't match: 1, 10280
    values don't match: 1, 842
    values don't match: 1, 7184
    The column type is NUMBER(1, 0) and only values in the database are 1 or 0. So as you can see most of the values filled with custom fetch size are totally incorrect.
    We have several tables with small number fields and for some of them the issue reproduces but for others does not.
    And the issue doesn't appear:
    1. with Oracle client 11.1.0.6.20
    2. if I use data readers and compare values record by record.
    Our Oracle DB version is 10.2.0.4.
    Thanks,
    Maxim.

    For anyone that may find this at a later time, this behavior has now been corrected, and is available in 11107 Patch 31 and newer, available on My Oracle Support. Note that the "self tuning=false" did not work in all cases, so the only reliable solution is to get the patch.

  • Best file for importing images from Illustrator and Photoshop for small file sizes

    Hello Adode consults!
    I'm in the process of preparing an inDesign file for a school project -- I've already had a few harrowing experiences sending large files to the printer that are too large to process (and a very grumpy computer, etc). The end result will be a poster around 36 inches by 4 or 5 feet.
    I'm wondering if there are any best practices for making sure that the files imported into InDesign are a manageable size to begin with. Should I, for instance, be saving each file as a jpeg before placing in Indesign?
    Thanks!
    -Katherine

    No, you should not save every file as JPG before placing it in INDesign. JPG is only usefull for raster images (like photos) without any transparency in high quality.
    When you place images use:
    For raster images from Photoshop psd (rgb with color profile)
    For raster images from Photoshop with form layers, texts or any vector element use PDF (or PDP) with layers.
    For vector graphics from Illustrator use AI files or PDF.
    For layouts from other InDesign projects use either the INDD itsself or export a PDF/X4.
    But to the printer deliver a PDF according to their standards. E.g. when they need CMYK files export as PDF/X1a with the required output color space and the resolution they want. Produce the pdf via Export (Print).
    Don't deliver open INDD. File size should for printing projects not be an issue.
