Fillable\Fill-In Forms Crashing Reader?

We're having an issue among several of our users with fillable forms... Reader XI (11.0.08.4) randomly decides to crash while users are trying to fill in the forms. Nothing extreme just answering questions on a form. I've tried a few solutions already:
- Re installing Reader XI
- Saving as an Optimized PDF and as Reduce File Size
- Saving with a different PDF version (tried 1.3-1.6)
- Saving with a different Acrobat Version Compatibility (tried versions 4.0-10.0)
- Turning off Enhanced Protected Mode
- Unchecking/checking any and all options under Preferences > Forms, tried every combination of settings
- Remaking the forms in a different application entirely (Nuance Power PDF), still crashes
This doesn't happen every time a fillable form is used nor with every user or a specific user, it's very sporadic. But it happens (eventually) with all fillable forms. I have Acrobat installed on my PC (running Win 7) and can replicate the crashing there too.
Any support or suggestions are very much appreciate!

Cannot reproduce on Windows 7 (Adobe Reader 11.0.09) either.  Tried first with your form only, then with a second (different) form open, filling in data alternating between the two.
One thing you could try on the systems where the crashes occur: disable Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

  • Cannot fill a form in Reader 9.x that was created using Professional 8.1.3

I created a form using Acrobat Professional 8.1.3 that our students must fill out using Acrobat Reader 9.x
My computer and the Reader 9.x computers have Windows XP installed.
The form opens in Reader 9, but none of the fields show. There are no drop down boxes or areas to type the info showing and the save option does not show. The form opens fine in Reader 8. Reader 9.x is the only version installed on the problem computers.

    Susan,
I'd be interested in looking at the file if you are free to email it to me.

  • Livecycle form crashes Reader and Acrobat

I've created a Livecycle form that has been working great. However, a user managed to corrupt it somehow and now it causes both Reader and Acrobat to freeze and then close when trying to load it. I also tried it in Nuance which causes a freeze but not an app close. However I noticed in task manager that while frozen, Nuance's memory consumption continues to grow.
Is there anyway to debug this to determine what is going on? Any other suggestions on how I can try to determine what is happening?

    Hi,
Does the form crash when you do a preview in LiveCycle Designer?  Have you got "When exception thrown" set to break in JavaScript preferences, maybe you can see an exception in the console?

  • Allow user to fill in form using reader 9.0

I am creating a vb.net that will form fill a pdf that was created in acrobat 9.0. I set "extend features in adobe reader" for the form that the app will use. The user will then save the app to their local drive. I want them to be able to open the file locally and be able to fill in additional info in the form. However, when they open the pdf, the "extend features in adobe reader" has been removed. Is there a way to set this using the sdk?

    No.

  • Adobe Reader Mac 9 can't save filled-in forms?

It appears that Adobe Reader Mac version 9.0.0 can no longer save filled-in forms. Using Reader Mac 8, I could save my last year's IRS Form 1040 PDF with all the fields filled in. Now, when I open the 2007 IRS 1040 PDF downloaded from their website today, I get a message:
"This document enables Reader capabilities that are no longer enabled in this Reader version."
I get the same message when I open my 1040 PDF that I saved with fields filled in earlier this year with Reader Mac 8. That PDF still contains my filled-in values, but I can't save any changes.
Has Adobe disabled saving filled-in forms in Reader Mac 9? If so, was it by accident or on purpose? If on purpose, why?

  • Problems viewing forms in reader - easy fix using adobe send?

My colleagues and I were having problems viewing and printing data in forms.  Went to the help forums and apparently it is caused by someone filling in a .pdf form on a mac - it corrupts the file.  I saw a lot of fixes suggested including a javascript for acrobat, but I only use reader, not the full acrobat, so none of them seemed to work for me.
However, I think the easiest way to fix one of these forms is to use adobe send.  If I take the corrupted form and send it to an email address using adobe send instead of sending it as an email attachment, it seems to fix the form and make the data visible again.     Have done it with a couple of forms now and it seems to work.
Now my question is, does anyone know why this works?

I don't think so. The problem there seems to be not being able to save the filled out form in Reader and needed to Extend features in Adobe Reader so that Reader users can save the form. This isn't quite the same.
My client can edit the form and save it. The problem seems to be needing to edit the saved and filled out form AGAIN.

  • Reader XI crashes when trying to fill-in form

    Hello,
I purchased CS2 many years ago which included Adobe Acrobat Pro. I've since upgraded my Mac and the OS would not support CS2 any longer. I lost the installer CDs so cannot re-install Acrobat Pro. I always register my software, but for some reason Adobe has no record of this, so I can't even prove I used to have it. So until I purchase another CS, I'm stuck with Adobe Reader.
My problem is every time I need to fill-in a form on Adobe Reader XI, it crashes. (There's a purple bar at the top clearly indicating that it's an interactive form.) The moment I put my curser in a field, it crashes. This has been going on for months now. It's really annoying to have to print-off and fill-in forms by hand which I used to type in Acrobat Pro with no issues.
Any assistance or information on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • How do I allow a user to save a filled in fillable form in reader?

how do I allow a user to save a filled in fillable form in reader?
I created a form in livecycle and i want other users that i send it to, to be able to save that they have typed.

    Hi,
Try reader extending the form.  Opening the form in Acrobat and then do File ... Save As Other ... Reader Extended PDF ... Enable more tools (includes form fill-in and save).
That's for Acrobat XI, it's different for other versions, might be under tools in earlier ones.

  • Is there a way to save a fillable form (in Reader) as a static (uneditiable) image and send it for signature without the recipient being able to revise the fields at all?

Is there a way to save a fillable form (in Reader) as a static (uneditiable) image and send it for signature without the recipient being able to revise the fields at all? I have designed a number of fillable forms and sent them to our clients as Reader extended pdfs to be filled out and sent back. Now, certain clients want to be able to fill in the fields and save the doc as a pdf that can't be tampered with so that they can send it to their own people for signature to be returned to them hand-signed and scanned via email.
Since the forms have been secured, and my cleints are only using the free Acrobat Reader, how can they save the filled in form as a static pdf to send on for signature? They do not want to have to print, scan and email. Is there an app, plug-in, simple solution to this?
    Thank you,
    Rumor

The signature WILL work! I've just looked into it more, thank you so much for pointing me in that direction.
I get it now, it locks the form fields in place after my coworker fills them in and signs it (as the very last step).
I wish I would have asked on here a full day ago. Would have saved a lot of headache and Googling.
    Thanks again.

  • I am currently having trouble with an attached PDF fill-able form created in Acrobat being non savable in Reader

Hello, I was wondering if you would be able to help me out?
I am having trouble with my attached PDF fill-able form, I am creating a form that has a limit of one page so in order for more room in a certain field I have added a Hyperlink to an additional fill-able(secondary) form within the Parent document (primary fill-able form. The secondary form is inserted as an attachment into the Primary form. My problem is when I open this document up in Adobe Reader, the Primary fill-able form is savable but the attached Secondary form for which the hyperlink leads to is non-savable and is a must print only. Is there a way to make the Secondary form savable as well within the same document? or is there another way I could execute what it is I am trying to achieve?
Trying to save other as extended reader has not worked, also if I save the attachment file as an extended reader first I am unable to attach a return hyperlink back to the Parent document,
Help would be greatly appreciated please and thank you!

I can't say for certain without looking at the actual PDF but it does appear that they created one large text box over multiple lines. For a fillable form it may have been smarter to remove the lines and create a box with smaller text that supports multiple lines.
At any rate, nothing you can do about it with the free Reader (and depending on the security, maybe nothing with Acrobat either.)

  • Can I save a filled out form in adobe reader

How do I save a filled out form in adobe reader?

When you fill out a filled out form in Adobe Reader, it is saved automatically when you quit the app (unless you crash). You could email the filled form, and it will open correctly filled out on Reader or Acrobat on Mac or Windows. (Warning: It may not look like it got filled out if you view it in Mail, Dropbox, or another iOS app, but it will appear correctly in Reader or Acrobat.)

  • Can a form be filled/saved by multiple Reader users?

I've created a fillable form using Acrobat 9 and enabled Form fill in and save in Adobe Reader. Reader User 1 fills in the form partially, saves and forwards to Reader User 2 to complete. Reader User 2 then cannot save the form with the form data. Is this expected behavior?

First user confirmed she is using Reader X. I'm not sure about second user. It's not really appropriate for me to use them too much as troubleshooters, so thats about as much information as I'm comfortable asking for.
Do you know specific instances where this behavior might happen? If there is too much chance of similar behavior going forward, we may have to scrap the whole fillable PDF idea.
    Thanks.

  • Is there a version of acrobat reader that will allow you to fill in forms?

I have a group of students that are using a fillable pdf to complete a project and they do not have a version of Acrobat to do the form.  Is there a free version of Acrobat that they can use to do this?

To read and print pdf's and if the creator of the pdf allows it, to fill in forms. If you want more, Acrobat would be the program you are looking for.

  • Save Fillable Forms on Reader

    Hello,
I am having difficulties with forms for Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader X. I created a form on word document and exported it to PDF and make the form fillable. If I open the form with Acrobat i can fill the form and save it on my computer. If i open the form with Reader the form can be filled in but cannot save. I need to send this form out to my clients so that they can fill it out and save it and then send back to me. Does anyone have a solution for this problem? Is using Acrobat the only solution to save the form? Please confirm. Thank You.

Oh and, be sure to reader section 15.12.3 of the Acrobat End User License Agreement. There are limitations of use to enabled forms. You'll want to stay within those limits. If you need to exceed those limits, they offer a very expensive server side product that you can use.
