Filling iPod shuffle with random albums

I want to be able to autofill my ipod shuffle with a random selection of albums - i.e. I want to listen to whole albums at a time.
I have tried creating a smart playlist limited to 900mb that takes items from 'music' and fills it randomly. Setting the shuffle mode to 'by album' seems to work, with itunes adding whole albums in a random order. I can then tell itunes to autofill from that playlist.
My problem is that, having created the smart playlist, I can't seem to 'refresh' it with a new (random) selection without actually making a new playlist.
Any ideas anyone?

Setting the shuffle mode to 'by album' seems to work, with itunes adding whole albums in a random order
First time I ever heard that setting to Shuffle by Album gets entire albums.
Amazingly, it works!
Thaks for the tip!

  • I have an older Ipod shuffle with many songs loaded on it. How can I transfer these songs to a new computer since the old computer is no longer available

I have an oder Ipod shuffle with many songs loaded on it. How can I transfer ths songs to a new computer since the old computer is no longer available?

I had the same problem with my iPad, i couldn't get the newer version of itunes because the computer was too old and my iPad couldnt sync with the old itunes. I got a PC from school a few months later so that solved the problem for me. Unfortunately i don't think there would be a program to put your music on your iPod, iTunes should be the only way to transfer files to Apple devices. What operating system are you running and what version of it is it?

  • Using iPod Shuffle with TWO computers

I have two laptops (one Powerbook and one iBook) and would like to use my iPod Shuffle with both computers, downloading music from the iTunes of each computer. Is that possible or will it always make me choose which iTunes I am linked to and delete all the music from the other one?

You can set your iPod shuffle up to mount as a disk on the desktop, and copy data files that can be transported from one computer to another. You aren't going to be able to use the shuffle to sync music from one iTunes account and another, however. It was only designed to work with one computer/one iTunes at a time.

  • Is my IPOD shuffle with software 1.0.1 compatible with iTunes 11.1.3

Is my IPOD shuffle with software 1.0.1 compatible with ITunes version 11.1.3.  I tunes doesn't seem to recognize the shuffle anymore.  Was this just a ploy to get us to buy new IPODS?

My much older 1st gen and 2nd gen shuffles still work with the latest iTunes, so I don't think it's a "ploy."
If you are using the iTunes 11.x for the first time, the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) may be hidden.  To show the sidebar, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
The shuffle does not appear in the sidebar, under DEVICES?

  • TS1363 replacing ipod shuffle with ipod nano ?

Replacing and older ipod shuffle with a new ipod nano.  Cant get itunes to recognize the device so I can download my songs.  Any help out there?

Getting iTunes (and your computer) to recognize your shuffle is one problem.
Also, you can't use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer, except for songs you purchased from the iTunes Store (and those can also be re-downloaded from the iTunes Store Purchased screen).  However, there are third-party utilities that can be used for iPod to computer transfer of song files.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
But you would have to get your shuffle recognized by your computer first, before any type of transfer would work.

  • How can I delete individual songs off of my ipod shuffle with this new itunes?

We used to be able to delete individual songs off of the ipod shuffle and now that itunes changed we can't figure out how to do that.

    Hello ArmyWife8610,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.  I found an article with some steps to delete photo albums off of an iPhone.  The way you delete the photos will depend on whether they were taken with the iPhone (on the Camera Roll) or if you synced the albums:
To delete photos and videos from your device
To delete synced photos and videos
In iTunes, select the device icon in the Devices list on the left. Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.
    Choose "Sync photos from."
On a Mac, choose iPhoto or Aperture from the pop-up menu.
On a Windows PC, choose Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete.
    Click Apply.
To delete Camera Roll photos and videos
There are two methods to delete items from the Camera Roll:
Import the Camera Roll to your computer, choosing to delete items after import.
    or
Delete photos and videos from your device manually. Open the Photos application, open the Camera Roll, tap the Action button, tap each photo to select it, and tap the Delete button.
Note: For photos and videos you want to save for later, import them to your computer before deleting them from the Camera Roll.

  • Ipod shuffle with permanently attached cable?

I got this shuffle from a friend (im not sure what gen) and it has a cable attached to it that cannot be pulled out. the end of the cable has the connector to plug it into the bottom of an ipod or iphone...
I don't see the point in this cable because my macbook has no port for it. Ive read that you sync and charge them through the audio port so...
    what is it for?

    Give the shuffle back.
That cable is not for an iPod shuffle unless it's somne 3rd party cable but I've never heard of one like that.
Ive read that you sync and charge them through the audio port so...
    Yes.
The first gen iPod shuffle had a USB plug on it.
The 2nd gen has a dock that plugs into USB on the computer and 3.5mm into the iPod.
The 3rd gen has a USB cable with a 3.5mm jack into the iPod.

  • Ipod shuffle with itunes no playlist

After upgrading to latest iTunes 12.0.1.26 I can no longer sync any music or playlists to my ipod shuffle. I have 37Gb of music available, but when I select my device and then settings/music, it shows no playlists or tracks to sync? I hate this new iTunes, why do they keep changing it? I'm tired of forever changing formats and settings... so pi**ed off with it!!!

Read a thread about changing the iPod Preferences from disk use. Plugged it into my old Win7 64bit machine which had no problem yesterday and today it is doing the same thing as my new machine. So I can't view the iPod Preferences in iTunes. I probably shouldn't have updated my iTunes. There seems to be an issue with the latest version because all was fine with the old software.

  • IPod Shuffle with older iPod Mini

    Hello,
My oldest daughter has been using an iPod Mini for quite a while and now has the newest version of iTunes on our computer, with basically no problems. I got my middle daughter an iPod Shuffle for Christmas. My oldest is terrified to hook up the Shuffle to our computer because she's afraid iTunes will "recognize" a blank iPod and erase all of her 800 some songs she has on iTunes now. Does anyone know if this is the case or will it just recognize the Shuffle as a new, separate iPod? Pleas, please email me any responses, my middle daughter is dying to try out her Shuffle. Thank you so much!
    Diane in NY

The shuffle will not remove any contents from itunes. The ipod would be viewed as a seperate device and should work with no issues. This article will explain

  • IPod Shuffle with iTunes 6

I recently gave my niece my old iBook running OSX 10.2.8 (she's 11 and the laptop helps her with basic school work). For Christams I bought her an iPod shuffle (2nd Gen) thinking she'd be able to plug the ipod into the ibook and it would connect/work straight away. The version of iTunes on the laptop (iTunes 6) does not seem to support the ipod saying that I have to upgrade to iTunes 7.2 However, iTunes 7.2 will not install on OS 10.2.8. Upgrading the iBook does not seem to be a realistic solution though, as the iBook is one of the old clam shell types with only 10GB of hard disk space and with only a CD reader. Any solutions to this problem will be warmly welcomed.

you probably just need a new laptop.

  • Ipod shuffle with integrated cable?!?

My son came home from school with what to all appearances is a 2nd gen ipod shuffle (bought from a friend that upgraded to the standard ipod).
The only problem is that this shuffle has a 36"cable coming out of the side opposite the headphone jack. I can find no information about a 2nd gen shuffle with a cable. The shuffle is white plastic and 1"x3/4" with the proper controls on the face and the integrated clip. the edges are also rounded looking at it from the front unlike what I am seeing online. It has the model number a1187 on the back (hard to see with the clip, but it's there.
Is this a knock-off, an early prototype, or what? If it is a genuine apple what kind of adapter do we need to connect it to USB?

    It's a knockoff...

  • IPod Shuffle with iTunes on Win8 64 bit. Doesn't work for me.

Running Win 8 64bit. iTunes initially recognizes my iPod shuffle but then it disappears. Properties say driver is up-to-date. Details say Windows is removing the device. Restarted with connected and same problem. Downloaded iTunes today - 1/5/13. Any ideas?
