Filling of form fields changing depending on how PDF is opened, why?

First of all, here is the error message that I am trying to deal with:
"This document contained certain rights to enable special features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and these rights are no longer valid. Please contact the author for the original version of this document."
Software & PDF details:
Adobe Reader 8. V8.1.1
PDF Producer: Toolkit http://activepdf.com
PDF Version: 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x)
The PDF is set to with:
Filling of form fields: Allowed
After investigation I have found that:
If I open the file by double clicking, I am able to fill in the fields and save without any problems.
If the file is opened as a result of a software process trigger (which is what I actually want to achieve), the "Filling of form fields" is changed to "Not Allowed". This then results in the error message described above.
Also, I have another PDF with exactly the same settings as above (PDF version and Producer etc), which successfully generates as a result of the software process trigger. This file that works does not change the "Filling of Form Fields" value.
So, my question is, why would a particular PDF change the "filling of form fields" value depending on how it is opened?

Ok, that is a useful result, telling us a lot.
Some background you need. Reader 8 CANNOT SAVE FILLED IN FILES normally. To be able to save them they must be specially prepared. This is called "Reader enabling". (In your original message, "rights to enable special features in Adobe Reader") To prepare a file Acrobat can be used, or a server product which has had many names but is currently LiveCycle Reader Extensions. If this is not done, the form cannot be saved, whatever its origin.
Now, a file may not be changed/damaged in even the slightest way after this preparation. This will produce the message seen.
So, your test seems to show
- the original file is OK, undamaged
- by the time the file is delivered from the database to the user it has been damaged/changed.
So, you now have a path to pursue through the software.
(To clarify: this only applies if you used Windows Explorer to save the file, NOT any save function in Reader; if you saved in Reader please repeat the test with Windows Explorer).

I was set a PDF, from my employer, but am unable to fill out form field, and sign it using Adobe Reader. I have an I Mac, with the latest OS, and a free version of Adobe Reader.

If you still can't fill it in, maybe it doesn't actually have form fields in it. You can then use the commenting tools to add text to the file.

can be found in the "Document Properties" window of Adobe Reader, under the Security Tab).
Is there any way to set it , in the server (using the EJBClient class that renders the form) or
in the client (via javascript)?.

You should be able to set this on your XDP file from within Designer. Go to File-->Form Properties
and you'll see a PDF security tab there with the same options you have in Reader.

The filling of form fields is not supported

I created a fillable pdf with the 30 day trial and am trying to load onto our Wordpress website. I am receiving this message when I attempt to open the file and test, "This pdf contains fields. The filling of form fields is not supported." Help.

Your PDF is in web space. That means that to access it you have to use a browser. Today many browsers have a built-in PDF reader that is, well, less than adequate.

Creating Worksheets with Fill-In Form Fields

What is the best application for creating worksheets with fill-in form fields? The worksheets will be emailed to my clients for completion. Once completed they need to be able to save them to their computer and/or email them back to me. What application will they have to have in order to fill in and save the PDF?

In short, you will need Acrobat to create the forms. They only need the free Reader to fill them in and save them.

Issue with filling out form fields in Safari?

Has anyone noticed any issues with filling out form fields (specifically text boxes) in Safari 6.0.2 on Mac OS 10.8.2? When I attempt to test forms I've created, there is a delay when typing values into text boxes. Other types of input controls (check boxes, drop down lists, etc.) appear to work fine. As far as I can tell, this only occurs with Safari 6.0.2 in Mac OS 10.8.2. Prior versions of Safari do not have this issue, nor does Firefox in the same OS environment. When I refresh the form, the delay is not as noticeable. I'm searching the WebKit bug reports as well, but nothing seems to point to this issue. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

Volume Drop Problem (changes depending on how held)

The speaker volume on my iPhone changes depending on how it's being held. I surely hope this isn't considered a "feature". Held at a diagonal angle tilted backward, the volume drops considerably. It seems to play normal only when fully flat, or vertical.
Anyone else have this problem also? I'm considering exchanging it for another.

Don't you think it might just be a little useful to know what normally happens? I mean, you do realize that some phones sound silent when you tilt them a mm, while other phones sound almost the same no matter where you hold them. You do get that the difference in volume for the iPhone speakerphone when placed on a solid surface is much more dramatic than the changes in volume most other phones have due to placement, thus it's not something everybody thinks of right away.
Nobody tried to tell you that the sound waves were effected by gravity and the phone would be louder if you held it over your head right?
Read the first post again and think about it; 'speaker' refers to any sound emitting device like the 'headset', 'earpiece', or 'speakerphone speaker'...which you might even call the 'speaker speaker' or just 'speaker', regardless of how you define the parts; other people toss around the terms as if they are interchangeable. The post just says speaker.
If you are so bright then why are you asking a question at all? You know that if you move your body and the phone at the same time the volume shouldn't change. I mean..sure gravity does make the soundwaves drop quicker and all that so when you walk up an angled driveway the phone needs to adjust the volume, but that's only a little bit...not 'considerably' right?
Let's think for a second (or less for some of us). First, 'I was concerned some engineer mightve mistakenly thought of this as some cockamami "feature"'. Know what? It's a good idea. I wouldn't half mind a phone that could adjust the volume when I moved it to or from my ear or body. Seamlessly changing from the EARPIECE to the SPEAKER would be a great thing too. Things like switching from the bluetooth HEADSET to the SPEAKER are nice touches. I think you have an advanced model or a special feature.
It's also a little difficult for people to know how much your phone changes in volume when they can't hear it. It's not like there's a recording or some empirical data like 'hey, when I tilt my phone at a 45 degree angle it drops 20 decibels'.
As to 'reflected acoustics?!?!', I think the post starts with "speaker volume" and continues to 'when fully flat, or vertical'. Fully flat sounds like your phone is sitting on a table, shelf, or the floor and since I don't put my phone on a block then lay down on the floor with my ear above it to make a call I think the description sounds more like the speakerphone portion than the ear 'speaker'. Stating what the SPEAKER should do when normally performing in answer to a question should be considered informative and useful because : If you knew what the speaker was supposed to do you would not have asked.
Yeah, you never know who is using an iPhone or posting in the forums, but it doesn't take very long to read through the posts and find the information you want when you post a clear question in the first place.
I don't consider my phone a derogatory TLA, but if that's what you think of the product then I hope you enjoy your old phone.

Safari pre-fills form fields like email addresses, how do I get it to stop?

On certain Safari form fields my computer fills in the rest of a word I recently typed if I type the first letter, but I want to either get it to stop doing that or also learn how to clear that history every once and a while - how do I do that?

Open Safari's Preferences and click on the AutoFill icon. Make sure all three options are unchecked. If they were checked, unchecking them should fix your problem. Let us know what happens.
To clear a form while keeping AutoFill activated, click on the Edit button beside the appropriate AutoFill option, find the entry for that web site, and delete it. Editing the Address Book option will open your Address Book to your card for editing.

Merging Documents - Fill in Form Fields Issue

I have a customer that is using Acrobat Professional 11.0
Here are the details - can she do this using the merge documents together function rather than having to do the documents separately?
When using the merge documents together function, form fields that are left to be filled in (date and time is when example), do not stay as fields once the PDF is created - they are now be populated with a number/letter combination (example: 28T)
This does not occur when the documents are converted to PDF's separately.
This functionality worked fine with the merge documents together feature in Acrobat Professional 10. What changed from one iteration of the software to the next?
What is the fix for this?
Please advise.

Protecting completed PDF fill-in forms from changes

I have several completed PDF fill-in forms that I wish to make available on a website, but I do not want the viewer to be able to make changes to the forms. Is there a setting that will turn off the fill-in function?

You can either set the fields to read-only or flatten them. The latter can't be undone, unlike setting to read-only, so it may be preferable. For a convenient method of flattening, you can use the following free JavaScript-based tool: http://www.uvsar.com/projects/acrobat/flattener/
or open the form in Acrobat, open the interactive JavaScript console (Ctrl+J), enter the following line of code:
flattenPages();
and with the cursor on that line, click Ctrl+Enter, or Enter on the numeric keypad. Be sure to save to a new file so you don't overwrite the original since this is not reversible.

Fill HCM Form fields in creation process

Hi,
I created a HCM Form, everything is working fine so far. i can create a form in the portal, the workflow is triggered and all buttons do what they should do.
But i got a request, that the form should come up with some prefilled information.
I implemented the IF_HRASR00GEN_SERVICE~INITIALIZE method and filled some fields with test information. But its not rendered.

I read that i have to call Transaction HRASR_DT to make the Backendservice the default. But this transaction is not available in my system. I also read that this transaction is only available in EHP 4.0 but we do not have this EHP and we do not plan to install it.
Is there a workaround this or do i do something wrong?

In the configuration you can make backend service as providing the default value.
Personnel Management->HR Administrative services->Configuration of forms/processes->Configuration of forms
->Create form scenario
Here in the form fields you can say default value coming from whichbackend service. For defaulting values,
pass the value to the field in the INITIALIZE method, maintain the form scenario at the above mentioned place and
in the form have the correct binding

2 cascading multiple dropdown list boxes that fill a form field in Infopath

I have a request to do this:
first field is a cascading list box is type of work (can select more than 1 type of work)( separate list)
then based on the choices above the
second cascading list box has the various people's names from the first list box (can select more than 1 person)(separate List )
then I need to from the second list box have a form field hold the various email addresses of all the people selected in the second list box.
how would I do a multiple tier cascade in Infopath form?

those are good examples, but here is the thing the first two dropdowns can be more than 1 selection, could be 50 items selected.
and selection 2 dropdown doesnt lookup into selection 1. but they do have a related column.
company name..... ( just saying).

Can't get to "Form Field Mapping" pop up for PDF templates

Hi all,
I am trying to create a PDF template in BIP(10.1.3.4)
I have put a single text field on the PDF template and uploaded the XML data as well. I click on the "Map Form Field" button for the template and it is opened. I can see my text field highighted but when I click on this nothing happens... i.e. I don't get the "Form Field Mapping" to map my data field to the template(as per page 3-40 on BIP User's Guide). What am I doing wrong?

Hi,
We had the same issue and the solution was to save the pdf form as Acrobat 5.0 compatible.
For Acrobat 9 : File -> Save As -> Save As type: (Adobe PDF Files, Optimized) -> Settings button -> Make compatible with: Adobe 5.0 and later
This is also mentioned in the Report Designers Guide page 10-1 "Supported Modes"

[solved] ADF BC - Automatically fill in form fields

Hi all,
I think i just need pointing in the right direction. I am using ADF 11g BC.
Here is the case in EMP/DEPT terms. I click a row on the DEPT table, and click add employee button. A popup launches with a form. I want to have the DEPTNO and DEPTNAME filled in already based on the row that was clicked on. I currently am using createWithParameters when the button is pressed and am able to send in the deptname and deptno as parameters, i am just unsure of how to actually fill in those 2 fields of the form.
Any pointers/suggestions?

I had that problem too recently. It seems the parameters table is disabled wrongly. I worked around that be manually editing the XML via the Source tab. Here's an example of a "Create with parameters" action with two parameters:
