Filling paths with color in Photoshop CS4

I am working in Photoshop CS4...have been for years.  All of a sudden, when I try to fill a closed path with a color, it fills the entire artboard with color, except not inside the path.  I have not selected "inverse" or anything....and it has never done this before....I can't figure out why it has started doing this, and I can't get it to stop.  Most of the paths in my file, I have made in Illustrator and  then pasted into Photoshop...they work normally....it is just the ones I actually draw in photoshop that are doing this....one thing I have noticed is that in the paths palette, the paths I pasted in from Illustrator have a grey background.....while the paths I actually drew in photoshop have a white background.....any ideas, anybody????

Quote from the Help:
Choose one of the following in the options bar:
Add To Shape Area

Subtract From Shape Area

Intersect Shape Areas
Restricts the area to the intersection of the new area and the existing shapes or path.
Exclude Overlapping Shape Areas
Excludes the overlap area in the consolidated new and existing areas.

  • Fill image with color

Hello, please help me to find the answer.I have an image (doesn't matter
what format it is. I can use most suitable, even export from Photoshop can be used).
I would like to fill it with color. Is it possible to do it using JavaFX?
Here is an example. PNG image (please, see the link ) with transparent alpha and black color. Is it
possible to replace black color programmatically?
As I've read there is some plugin for Photoshop that allows to export work in JavaFX readable format, is it possible to realize my idea with the help of this Photoshop plugin?

    I've tried it with
    1. bind instruction:
        paint: Color.LIGHTBLUE
        width: bind image.width
        height: bind image.height2. without bind:
        paint: Color.LIGHTBLUE
        width: image.width
height: image.height3. without bind and with additional pixels:
        paint: Color.LIGHTBLUE
        width: image.width+100
        height: image.height+100
+100 is random number. I should print image.width and image.height before declaring effect blend.
File is situated in the same package with fx file. I think it doesn't take too much time to load img.
I know dimensions of image, but I would like to work with abstract image, it's not good to hardcode dimensions or ask user about image dimensions. User is not a professional and he doesn't have to know such dull things :)

  • 64 bit Lightroom 2.5 work well with 32 bit Photoshop CS4?

Anyone know if 64 bit Lightroom 2.5 works well with 32 bit Photoshop CS4?  Any problems or conflicts?  Or should I stick to 32 bit Lightroom 2.5?

It works fine, but the default will be to use the 64bit version of CS4 (which is also installed along with the 32bit version).
If you want to use the 32bit version of CS4 the easiest way is to open the 32bit CS4 before sending files from LR. I only have a few plugins that don't have 64bit versions, so I mostly use the 64 bit version of CS4, but occasionally I do use the 32bit version and that's how I do it.

  • Can I merge Photoshop CS6 with extended into Photoshop CS4 or CS5 will work together ?

Can I merge Photoshop CS6 with extended into Photoshop CS4 or CS5 will work together ?

Versions of Photoshop have different installation trees and user preferences.  You do not merge Photoshop versions. Each version is independent.  When you install newer versions of Photoshop the are options to migrate your presets and Preferences. You can start and use any version installed on your machine.  For the most part newer version of Photoshop are backwards compatible with older versions of Photoshop. However some changes  Adobe make to Photoshop change user interfaces and and the way Photoshop performs some functions these changes break some user actions, scripts and user work-flows.  In fact all the version you listed CS4, CS5 and CS6 have comparability issues.  In that respect Photoshop CC is not any better it has compatibility issues.
Newer versions of Photoshop have new functions and updated old function.  Older versions can not handle everything save by newer versions of Photoshop. If you save PSD and PSB files with the maximum compatibility option checked. Older version should be able to open you layer document with layers that look like what was saved though some layer may be altered and may even be a different layer kind then was saved. If you need to support older versions of Photoshop always use the maximum compatibility option.

  • Keyboard shortcut for filling layer with color are opposite on my PS CS6 OSX install, Help?

    Hello all,
I'm a bit of a noob, and following a tutorial….and found something strange and wonder if you might help me figure what's happening.
I have Photoshop Extended CS6 on a macbook pro (late 2011).
    I'm running OSX v 10.7.5
I'm following along and the instructor added a new layer. I did this.
He then filled the layer with white which is his background color (he has black foreground, white background). I have the same fore/background colors.
Now, I thought on mac that to fill with foreground color you hit Apple+Delete  and to fill with background you hit Option+Delete
It is doing the exact OPPOSITE for me. I hit Apple+Delete (or even backspace)  and it fills with my background color which is white
If I hit Option+Delete (or backspace) it fills with my foreground color.
I've tried looking in the Edit Keyboard shortcuts area…but I don't see these settings anywhere.
I do have an external keyboard  hooked to my mac. It is a 3rd party one, but seems to work in ever other way normally.
    Keyboard here is:  http://pckeyboard.com/page/UKBD/UB40P4A
Any suggestions why my keyboard shortcut for filling a layer with color might be reversed?
    Thanks in advance,
    CC

option-delete is, and always has been, fill with foreground.
a 1 second google search would have informed you of this.
    Thanks for the reply.
I did do a Google and I got this:
    http://blog.coghillcartooning.com/84/tip-keyboard-shortcut-to-fill-a-photoshop-layer-or-se lection-with-the-background-or-foreground-color/
And from that I got the option-delete was background, and apple-delete was foreground.
    Hence my confusion...
Thanks for the reply, I guess I should check 2-3 sites each time I google for keyboard shortcuts for PS.

  • Problem with Cursors in Photoshop CS4

I am only seeing partial cursors (i.e. semi-circles or truncated brush tips) for cursors when I enlarge the cursor size.  This is happening across all tools wherever I enlarge the brush tip.  I tried resetting the preferences and updating the video drivers with no luck.  I am running on Windows XP Professional on a Dell desktop using a Dell monitor that has an nVidia GEForce 8600 GTS video driver running version 6.14.11.5851.  I had updated the driver to the latest version but the PC became unstable, causing a system dump and "blue screen of death", so I rolled back to this version.  I also use a Wacom tablet with the setup.  It had been working fine and I am not aware of any changes to the system that would have caused this.  I have an open ticket with Adobe for about two weeks but so far the problem has not been resolved.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have you updated Photoshop to vession 11.0.1?
Have you tried turning off OpenGL in preferences?
I don't see your card on this list either:

  • Fill layer with color

pse13  I am trying to fill layer.  The layer has a small rectangle on it and nothing else.  When I fill layer, it fills the entire canvas, not just the rectangle!  This used to work!

Go to File>new>blank file. Enter w, h, and resolution, & background color. This will be the canvas.
Set up the Rectangular marquee tool to fixed size, enter w & h dimensions for the rectangle
Use the Paint-bucket tool to fill the rectangle with color of choice as determined by the foreground color chip.

  • Printing with actions in photoshop cs4

Part of my work-flow is to run an action that finishes with printing to a Canon CLC3200.
Photoshop records the action fine, but when the action is run the print simply does not come out, there are no faults or error messages.
Can actions include a step for printing?
    Gareth.

Might as well post this here as well as the Mac forum
You can use a script to print, an action can include calling the script.
    #target photoshop
    app.activeDocument.printOneCopy();
Save the code using a text editor as FileName.jsx
    PC:- C:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS4/Presets/Scripts/
    Mac:- [hard drive]/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS4/Presets/Scripts/
    To run script:-
File - Scripts - (Select script)

  • Help with installation of photoshop cs4

I am installing photoshop cs4 but gives me a error message of critical error found in setup please check the setup log

if you downloaded the cs4 install files, check that your download matches the expect file sizes.
if you're using a disk to install, copy the installation files to a desktop directory.
if you continue to see an error, either quote the error message if it lists an error, or check your install logs for the error - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html

  • Problem with blue color in Photoshop CS4 after calibrating monitor

Hi to all! I would appreciate if someone can help me!
Before some days I calibrated my monitor with Pantone Huey Pro and after that I find out that photoshop doesn't show blue color corectly. I create a blue (0,0,255) page and it looks a bit like violet, while I don't have any problems with red and green (which are perfect), or with other programs (other programs display blue and all colors correctly). But when I save this blue page and open it with a different program I see the real blue color. So the problem is that during editing in Photoshop blue color isn't correct, it's a bit violet.
Can anyone tell me why blue color doesn't behave properly in Photoshop? Is there any setting I should change in Photoshop Color Settings?
I use sRGB on my camera, and sRGB in Photoshop (North America General Purpose 2, sRGB IEC61966-2.1, U.S. Web coated (SWOP) v2, Dot Gain 20%,  Dot Gain 20).
    Thanks for your time!
    George

    Thanks for your quick responce!
I update Huey and Photoshop and did the calibration again but it didn't fix the problem. Is it possible that the calibrator doesn't work properly?
My monitor isn't very new, so I don't think it has wide gamut display.
When you say that "if your display is not truely sRGB" you mean that maybe the profile created Huey isn't correct? I have done many times the calibration and the result is always the same.
I think that Paintshop uses color management, too, shouldn't it display the same wrong blue color if Huey's profile is wrong?
How can I check if Huey works properly? Maybe I should try it on a different PC?
    Thanks for your time!!!
    Best regards,
    George

  • Problems with Line Tool Photoshop CS4

I have just upgraded to CS4 running on a new MacBook Pro 10.6.3. I've used Photoshop 7 extensively and feel quite able to get around the CS4 version. The problem I have is in creating a line in Photoshop - the line colour will not fix or change other than black on white background, or white on a black background. I can't seem to change it what ever I do? Is there a bug or incompatibility with the new operating system of my MAC?

Is the Line Tool set to Shape Layer, Paths or Fill Pixels (in the Options Bar)?

  • How to isolate part of my workspace and use paint bucket to fill it with color?

Here is my situation:  I want to draw a vertical line on the left-hand side of my workspace about an inch away (to the right) from the left edge.   Then I want to fill up that inch-wide column with a particular color.  The end result being that I will have an inch-wide bar of color running vertically down the left side of my project.
I know this is probably really easy to do but it's been a long time since I had a course in Photoshop.
    I use PSE 6.  Thanks!

    Something like this:
    1. Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to draw the rectangular selection
    2. Select the Paint Bucket Tool
        Add a new blank layer
(so it's easy to change later)
Click on the foreground color chip in the toolbox and set your color for the fill
Click inside the selection with the paint bucket tool
        Select>Deselect
You can use the rulers to see how far an inch is in your document
    (View>Rulers)

  • I have a question about the calendar on the ipad2. I have multiple calendars in different colors. Some of the events are filled in with color. Others are just listed with a colored dot in front of the event. Any ideas why events ar showing up differently?

I have an ipad2 and my question is about the calendar. I set up multiple calendars with different colors. Some of the events show up in filled color. Others only show with a colored dot in front of the event. I can't figure out why some show up one way and others show up differently? Any thoughts?

On mine the ones that show on a coloured background are all-day events, the ones with dots and just timed events.

  • Help with image analysis Photoshop CS4 Extended

Hi there - I recently went to the Birmingham NEC photo expo and saw a guy there giving a CS4 extended demo.  He showed how at the click of a button a folder of new photos were reduced to a smaller bunch of just the most tack-sharp ones.  I can't find out how to do this with my CS4 Extended - can anyone help - or am I just imagining it all  :-)))

    Sounds interesting.
Did he do that in Photoshop itself or Bridge or Lightroom?
Anyway, I suspect one could maybe achieve something like this in Photoshop with some fairly heavy Scripting, but I suspect the Script would have to actually open the images for analysis …
