Film burn effect for motion or FCP

Hi guys and gals - I'm making some "cine film" looking footage that I want to make look as though its caught in a projector and burns out/melts! has anyone got any suggestions for making this in Motion either to do all post production or to apply in fcp? I'm also going to publish on fcp forum if anyone has any suggestions there as well.
thanks in advance.
Allen

Heya,
Unfortunately, burning/melting film has a really organic and distinctive look, so synthesizing it would extremely difficult and probably wouldn't give great results. I would check out pages 1 and 2 of Artbeats' Film Clutter 2collection. It has a few different film burns, and they could easily be comped/edited with your footage.

  • Turning off "Ken Burns" effect for SOME photos

I see that someone has asked a similar question in the past and told that it's not possible to turn off the Ken Burns effect for some photos, but I'm hoping someone has a workaround or there's a hack...
I've made a slideshow and got the idea to "tell the story" by creating some "title" images in Photoshop elements which I've placed in between a series of photos.
These are just black backgrounds with the title (e.g. "...and the party begins", "Family reunion" etc.) in big white letters. I'm very happy with that idea
I like the Ken Burns effect for the slideshow as it adds some semi-video "action" effect, but NOT on the titles. Having the Ken Burns effect there just looks stupid, so I would like to remove it for the titles alone.
I know I can do it the other way round (go to "Settings" for the Slideshow, deselect "Automatic Ken Burns effect", then manually add the effect for all the photos I want), but with a slideshow album that's going to take ages to do!!
    Is there a better way?

Perhaps you're checking the KB button on the "main" menu for the slideshow. That actually changes only the setting for the image that is currently selected. Try using the "Settings" button and deselect the "Automatic KB effect."

  • Can I undo the Ken Burns effect for all clips at once (instead of pulling up each clip individually)?

Can I undo the Ken Burns effect for all clips at once in iMovie (instead of pulling up each clip individually)?

Yes, you can select multiple clips then Adjust, Crop, click on "Fit".
    Geoff.

  • How can I modify the Fit, Crop, or Ken Burns effect for the entire movie?

How can I modify the Fit, Crop, or Ken Burns effect for the entire movie? I've been having to go through them all individually which takes forever.

You could try  Edit > Select All  then click on the crop button and change the setting from Ken Burns to Fit.
I find that this only works if you do not have the Automatic Cross Dissolve transitions in place.
If you do, File > Project Theme and uncheck the transitions and remove them.
After you have changed from Ken Burns to Fit, you can re-apply them.
Easiest way in future is to set up your project (File > Project Properties) before you start adding photos.

  • I can't find a appropriate sound Effect for motion template.

    Hi,
Like my title say I can't find a appropriate sound Effect for motion template. I am using the template that goes by SATIN and There I choose SATIN BLUE-MENU.
In that Template we can see a blue Sheet flying by. BUt I am totally lost to get a nice sound for that. So far I could not find any sound for that. I never Worked with sound Effect. I appreciate any tip.
What is better only sound or a music playing with it? What kind sound goes with it?
Hope to hear from you all.
    Thanks

I think you need to give us a little more information. Which program are you currently using? Soundtrack Pro, Motion, what? What does the Satin template do?
It sounds like what you're looking for is a "whoosh" effect -- like maybe a gust of wind or something like that. In finder search for the word "whoosh" and then select whichever drive has your Apple loops. You'll find a plethora of whooshes.
Of course that may not be what you're looking for. You'll have be be a little more specific with what the picture is that you're trying to add sounds to, and even then, it's still your artistic choice.

  • Making slideshow for 1 jpeg, ken burns effect for 60 seconds freezes unit

trying to make a slideshow using 1 jpeg, ken burns effect turned on for 60 seconds in slideshow "settings", sometimes it makes a movie which will fill up the hd, hd space available is 67 gigs, ram is 1 gig, then we will get message saying that the hd is full, only way to boot is to pull the battery out, which bothers me. any suggestions on why this is happening? thanks and have a good weekend.

    Is all you're software up-to-date?
At a guess, I suspect that the slideshow is endlessly looping, trying to find a second or subsequent pic. Afterall, a one shot slideshow is unusual. For that kind of slow pan you might have more luck with an app like PhotoToMovie. (http://www.lqgraphics.com).

  • Ken Burns effect for video clips

I like how you can pan a photo using ken burns in final cut pro x. Is there a way to do the same feature in video? I'd love a simple way to move around within a video clip without having to film using a slider.

I wonder if it would work better when video cams start outputting 4k.
Not really, not if you edit in a 4k project. It's becoming more common to shoot large frame formats and edit in 1080p, allowing you to reframe the shot. Personally I think that's just lazy, but I'm then one film camera old school.

  • Film sprocket effect for Super 8MM footage used with HDV 16:9 footage

    Hi!
I am working on a project that has both Super 8mm and 16:9 HDV footage.
The Super 8mm is obviously not 16:9 and has two black lines either side of it so I was wondering is anyone knows of an effect/filter to make it appear that the Super 8mm film had sprocket holes running down the side of it, (instead of the dodgy black lines!!).
If no one knows could someone tell me how best I could incorporate the Super 8mm footage into the HDV 16:9 project, (I have tried changing the aspect ratio but I'm worried it will make all the people have fatter heads!!)?
    Many thanks,
    Alex

Make a graphic in Photoshop and composite it on top of your footage. It will need to be taller than your video's height in pixels. Keyframe the position so it looks like a continuous movement.

  • MacBook Pro late 2013 for Motion and FCP

    Hi,
before buying the MacBook Pro 15-inch, I am turning the internet upside down trying to find out how well the model without the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M would perform when doing Photoshop work and editing HD video in Final Cut Pro and Motion.  Almost all tests I read tell me frame rates when playing games.  But I wonder how well the MacBook Pro 15-inch is doing on the mentioned tasks if there is only the Intel Iris Pro Graphics ?  It would be great to read experiences of people who bought the 15-inch base model.  Thanks.

    Hey Clo1,
This video meight give you an idea of what the iris pro can handle...

  • Drobo for Motion and FCP projects

Does anyone have any experience with the Drobo system? I am thinking about purchasing one for my ever increasing size of projects that eat up so much space on my hard drives. I have 3 separate external drives and thought this would be a good way to combine a couple together. I want to know if this is fast enough to use for editing or is it primarily used for back-ups? Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Works great for me. If I had a nice Mac Pro I would absolutely use the internal drive bays for my video content, but would also have a Drobo to serve as a RAID.
As for you and me with our iMacs, the Drobo on FW800 is as fast as my internal drive. I don't see any lag time. I have 4 x 1TB Seagate drives in my Drobo. With about 1.8 TB of raw video. Not a ton, but it sure was nice to bust open all my external drives and slide them in the Drobo! I recommend keeping at least one external drive dedicated to Time Machine. And by the way, I can be editing video on my Mac and rip out one of my 1 TB drives in the Drobo with out a single skipped frame... Dude... that's cool.

  • Saving Motion Effects for use in FCPX

Is it possible to save filters in Motion 5 to use in FCPX? Is it possible to save filters from Photoshop or any other applications or plug-ins for use in Motion 5 or FCPX?

Although I haven't done an complete inventory, AFAIK all the Motion filters are available in FCP. Some of them offer more parameter adjustments than the ones in FCP. If you're referring to custom effects, you could create them in Motion with drop zones and save them as templates.
Third party plug-ins for Motion and FCP are widely available, but do some research since there are currently a lot of reports of problems related to plug-ins.
    Good luck.

  • Ken Burns effect very irregular

Since installing version 5 (all versions through 5.04), the Ken Burns effect for slides has not worked smoothly. In the course of one slide show, no matter how many photos used, the pans can be slow then fast within the same slide or just sit there with no pan or just creep along extremely slow with bouncing seen on the margins or speed like a locomotive across the screen. Setting the time interval for the slides has little or no effect on how long the each slide will be displayed on the screen. For example, if you set it at 8 seconds, some slides stay on for 4 seconds, some for 15, etc.
All versions of iPhoto 4 worked beautifully with no problems.
I wish I could go back to version 4.
Any ideas on how to fix the problem?

Try cleaning out the various user and system caches with OnyX or a similar application.

  • Ken burns effect won't die

I want to globally turn off the Ken Burns effect for my 722 slides in my iMove slide show. I have clicked on Project Properties, Timing, Fit in Frame, apply to all.
But still it won't go away. I really don't want to do one at a time. What else can I do?

Click on one of the thumbnail images in the project timeline, then select "Edit > Select All" from the menu. All clips in the project will now be highlighted with a yellow border.
Now click on the small gear icon on one of the images. From the drop-down menu select "Cropping & Rotation". (Alternatively, click on the Crop, Rotate & Ken Burns tool in the centre toolbar - or simply press the C key on the keyboard).
In the Viewer, select Fit (in the top left corner). All clips will now be changed to Fit.
It's best when starting a new project to choose your preference from "File > Project Properties", then make a selection for the item "Initial Photo Placement". iMovie's default is Ken Burns (as you've discovered).

  • Ken Burns Effect to Multiple Pictures

I would like to use the Ken Burns effect for all the images in a 100 plus image slide show. Is there an easy way to do this?
    Thanks in advance!

If you want all theclips to zoom the same way without the tromboning, set the effect on one clip and save it (cmd-C).
Select the remaining clips and choose Edit>Paste Effects (or alt-cmd-V).
If the original clip has additional effects that you don't want to paste you will haveto deselect them in the Inspector.
