Film look and Pal,what difference should I see?

The Sony HC9E PAL has the option to use "film".
Sony tell me this would record at 24 fps.
What difference would I see between 24 fps and PAL?
Would the difference be apparent when viewing in the canvas?

I'm not sure of the standards for pal but I know NTSC DV records at 30i (more specifically 29.97 interlaced frames per second). 24p (p being progressive) means that it will shoot 24 non interlaced frames per second which is the 'look' of 35mm film that you see in the movies.
The difference between progressive and interlaced flows very deep, but the most noticeable is the quality. When shooting interlaced you have every frame divided in half, one half is the odd lines drawn across the frame and the other is the even lines - this is why you get that flicker sometimes, the lines dont transfer or werent interpolated correctly. In progressive mode the frame is recorded and stored as one complete frame and therefore exhibits much better quality. So 24p will give you a high quality film like look while PAL (assuming its similar to the standards of NTSC) will give you a lesser quality home movie look.

Film look and final presentation techniques

I have a feature film that is in the final stages of editing. I recently got the Final Cut Studio package with FCP 5, Studio Pro 4, Motion, Soundtrack, etc.
The movie was shot on DV and looks about as good as it could. I know there are a lot of 'film look' techniques out there, some of them work, some of them look terrible. Unfortunately I don't have the time to experiment at this point, so if anybody can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.
I also have a copy of Magic Bullet from a couple years ago, but I don't know much about the program. I'm pretty good about figuring these things out with a nudge, though.

Magic bullet does good stuff. There is a new version of that due out soon.
Also go to www.nattress.com and look at the Film Effects filters.
Cinelook is another route.

What impact should I see when my Ipad mini is associated to my Wife's Apple ID

I have a 64gb Ipad mini
My wife has a 16gb Ipad with retina
Both me and my wife have purchased tv shows in iTunes using my Ipad mini and have both downloaded content to that device.
My Ipad mini shows in my wife's iTunes account as being associated with her Apple ID.
To date, I can't see that I have been impacted by that association because we can both log in and out of iTunes on that device, download TV series and play those shows. With my device being associated with my Wife's Apple ID, what impact should it have on me?
I've been corresponding with Apple for over two weeks and am still no closer being given an answer that makes any sense I just seems that I am being given stock answers to another question
I have been given links to many help articles that have been directly and indirectly relevant to my query, but they don't answer my question. I've also read through the community support forum, but there's nothing that I can find that relates to my question.
We are both new to Apple products, iTunes is new territory for us. I simply want to understand whether or not our shared use of my Ipad mini will create a problem that locks either one of us out of certain content. We'd rather know this up front so that we make an informed choice of whether to continue purchasing hard copies or start using iTunes for purchasing TV shows.

A long time ago, which iTunes account you used to make purchases was important due to the DRM that Apple used at the time. Now that most music on the iTunes Store is DRM-free the distinction of which account was used to purchase the music is irrelevant. Songs can be copied freely to as many computers and devices that you own.
Movies and TV shows, however, are not all DRM free. They have Apple's FairPlay DRM embedded. What does this mean for you? Probably not much. You can authorize up to five computers to play a video file downloaded from either of your iTunes accounts. iTunes itself keeps track of the associations and, if you change devices in the future, it's very easy to dissociate your accounts in the iTunes Store.
Let me give you an example of how this works. Let's say my wife buys a CD and a movie from iTunes and I want it on my computer in my library too. First thing I need to do is copy the files to my machine and add them to my iTunes library (File --> Add to Library, I believe). When I try to play the music, they'll work immediately, no more configuration required. When I try to play the movie, however, iTunes will ask me to associate my computer with my wife's Apple ID (if I haven't already done so in the past). To associate my computer, all I need to do is enter her Apple ID and password into the dialog box that pops up and I'm good to go. Now I can play that file in my iTunes on my computer without any trouble. I can also download it to my iOS devices (iPad, iPod, iPhone) seamlessly.
An Apple TV is different than the other iOS devices in that its primary purpose is to stream files from computers, other iOS devices, or the iTunes Store directly. The Apple ID that you associate with your Apple TV is only relevant to the purchases you make from the iTunes Store and if you turn on Home Sharing. But both you and your wife can stream files to your Apple TV from your iOS devices. Make sure that AirPlay is enabled on your Apple TV and your iPads. Then select the Apple TV you want to stream to from your iPad and you should be good to go.
My wife and I have a similar environment to the one you describe and have no trouble viewing or using content on any of our devices (including computers).

Hold down the home button and power button until you see the Apple logo and that will reboot it.

Tor and Privoxy - what script should I start these with on boot-up?

I've got Tor and Privoxy running, but wonder where I should put the commands to start them? .xinitrc doesn't work, because I'm starting at run level 5, ie. logging straight into XFCE4.
I can't put them into the DAEMONS array in rc.conf, can I? *shrug*
Any offers?

Why not? They both provide startupscripts in /etc/rc.d/ which you can add to DAEMONS.

What information should I see in ipad2 internet IP address

I can see I am connected to the internet at the top of my ipad, but still unable to connect. In the settings the only 2 parts that have information are the IP address and the Subnet Mask. I have checked against my iphone and all the relevent information is filled in, although it is different.

What you are seeing at the top of the pad, the fan , is showing your the strength of your wireless singal from your router, and really mothing about the internet. So you know you are getting a wire signal.
In settings, network, the pad show show you the names of any available net works, including yours. Tap it, and it will try to connect. If your network is open, it should just connect. If your network is secure, it should ask you for the password or network key. When you enter it, after a minute or so a checkmark should show up next to the network name, and you are in, and should be able to do whatever you want on the internet. M
Are you getting a checkmark next to the network name? if you touch the right arrowmon that network, it brings up the other screen you describe. The ip address is assigned to your pad by your router, and should begin with 192. If not, that is a sign that you have not yet made friends with your router, probably stuck at the security step.

Purchases you have made from the iTunes Store should in most cases be in the Cloud (unless the rights owner has had it removed or you are in a country which does not permit this). Other music such as CDs you have ripped are only there if you subscribe to iTunes Match.

What version should I see in help- about for most recent?

I just did a check for updates and installed a bunch of new things and this is what it says now 1.1.2.25 main-25-79. Why doesnt it say 1.1.3.27.66? I click check for updates and there is nothing to upgrade to?

To see the actual version installed, select Help -> About but ignore the details displayed on the About tab (they are from the last full install you did - I get "Version 1.1.2.25") - instead select the Extensions tab. Scroll down until you find the "extension" called "Oracle SQL Developer" and the version you have installed will be displayed in the version column (I get "1.1.3.27.66").

Film Look ...

Hi,
I have been racking my brains as to figure out how to give that 'film look' to PAL video in FCE. Using a clip, I 'selected all' and went into video effects to find de-interlace (or is 'interlace' that I need) ... I clicked on de-interlace and nothing happened.
Is someone going to tell me that PAL is already de-interlaced? Have I got my terminology all wrong?
If so, how can I get the effect I'm looking for?

WebDynpro look and Feel

Hi,
I created a webdynpro application and deployed into portals. We are running Portals SP11. But the webdynpro is not getting custom look and feel what has been added to the portal by default, it is displaying SAP Color theme.
Any ideas please?

Are your J2EE instances different for WAS and EP. If they are then what is the version of your WAS. You have mentioned EP as SP11.
Note : In SP11 the below mentioned procedure slightly affects the theme. It works fine in SP10 though. See if the steps mentioned below is of any help to you.
If you want the color schemes to apply for WebDynpro then you will have to set the theme for the WebDynpro application too.
Download the Theme Editor available in SDN.
Follow these steps
Create a new theme editor project with the same name as the theme name in the portal.
Import your theme file into WebDynpro.
You will have to generate your custom theme and then right click and export your theme as a zip file.
Then extract the Zip file to a folder.Copy the extracted files into the folder
C:\usr\sap\J2E\JC00\j2ee\cluster\server0\temp\webdynpro\web\sap.com\tcwddispwda\global\SSR\themes
Then give the path in your Visual Admin --> Configuration Adapter --> WebDynpro >tcwddispwda> default.properties
Type the path as the following.
http://<machine_Name>:50000/webdynpro/resources/sap.com/tcwddispwda/global/SSR/themes/sap_chrome
and also set the property useWebDynproStyleSheet property to true and then restart your J2EE server.

Mixing Frame Rates and Creating Old Film Look?

Hello, I'm working with AVCHD footage which is 59.94 fps and have made my sequence settings at this frame rate. I've dragged in a few clips 23.98fps, 24fps, 25fps and 29.97fps, I'm attempting to give it a old film look so was going to render out at 14 fps as this is what 8mm is filmed at, I've never worked with mixed rates so any advice as to whether this is going to work? Should I have my sequence setting at my highest frame rate and the majority of the video is 59.94fps? would it work exporting at 14 or 16 fps?

I've never worked with mixed frame rates, but for the old film look, I like the Posterize Time effect set to 18 (one of the two standards for Super 8 that my camera had) and use Magic Bullet Misfire.
