Film sprocket effect for Super 8MM footage used with HDV 16:9 footage

Hi!
I am working on a project that has both Super 8mm and 16:9 HDV footage.
The Super 8mm is obviously not 16:9 and has two black lines either side of it so I was wondering is anyone knows of an effect/filter to make it appear that the Super 8mm film had sprocket holes running down the side of it, (instead of the dodgy black lines!!).
If no one knows could someone tell me how best I could incorporate the Super 8mm footage into the HDV 16:9 project, (I have tried changing the aspect ratio but I'm worried it will make all the people have fatter heads!!)?
Many thanks,
Alex

Make a graphic in Photoshop and composite it on top of your footage. It will need to be taller than your video's height in pixels. Keyframe the position so it looks like a continuous movement.

I have been given permission for unlocking my iphone 3 GS from Orange. I want to set up the phone for my wife to use with a new number and carrier. Do I unlock under my itunes account first ( I now have a new iphone on this account) or set one up for her and then unlock the phone. I am worried about upsetting the new phone.

I would complete unlocking as is and then
restore as new once you know the iPhone is unlocked
Be aware Orange will process the request at their speed
one of the reasons they usually reside at bottom of User Sat surveys
    will likely take weeks
    This may also help

  • Any Recommendations for External HD to use with Time Machine?

Have been using Time Capsule wireless as my drive for Time Machine back-ups for a couple of years with mixed success. It also serves as a wireless router for internet service between all devices in my household.
Was recently recommended to me to invest in an external firewired hard drive to use for Time Machine so now I'm presented with a dilemma: Which one to choose?
Need 3 Terabytes and I'm looking at the Iomega Mac Companion (3TB) but see that Apple has discontinued selling it from its store and there's an issue with using USB and FW simultaneously.
Looking for feedback from anyone whose used this device and/or recommendations on another 3TB drive to purchase.
    Thanks in advance.

From that broad page The hatter suggested, these specific enclosures (with or without a drive pre-installed) are pretty good.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB
The one at the bottom that says 0GB is the same enclosure empty, so that you can pick a separate drive mechanism to install in it. That way you can order the exact drive you want, instead of having them choose from what they have on hand.
Wireheads will choose the 0GB and install the drive they prefer, most "regular" folks just buy it with a drive already installed and it works (after initializing) right out of the box, no assembly required.

  • Film burn effect for motion or FCP

Hi guys and gals - I'm making some "cine film" looking footage that I want to make look as though its caught in a projector and burns out/melts! has anyone got any suggestions for making this in Motion either to do all post production or to apply in fcp? I'm also going to publish on fcp forum if anyone has any suggestions there as well.
    thanks in advance.
    Allen

    Heya,
Unfortunately, burning/melting film has a really organic and distinctive look, so synthesizing it would extremely difficult and probably wouldn't give great results. I would check out pages 1 and 2 of Artbeats' Film Clutter 2collection. It has a few different film burns, and they could easily be comped/edited with your footage.

  • How can I get templates for Avery Labels to use with Pages.

Prior to getting Pages I always used Word.  Word seems to bomb out on my new imac.  I need to be able to use Avery Labels, but I can't find a template for labels in Pages.  Suggestions?

Pages doesn't have label templates built in. You can use Word templates in Pages, but I do believe that Avery now has Pages templates although I only see "holiday" ones.

  • Recommendations for wireless adapter to use with Tivo?

I'm shopping for my first Tivo box, and was wondering if any of the Tivo-recommended wireless USB adapters work better with Airport/Mac than the others?
    Thanks!
    Erin

I'm glad to see this topic addressed here. I have a TiVo (Humax w/DVD Burner) and I have home network using Airport for our 3 Macintosh computers. I have been avoiding trying to hook up my TiVo to the network...and thought I'd do some research before I take the plunge. Based on what I'm reading, I should purchase a D Link DWL 120B?? We also have ReplayTV as well, has anyone tried doing networking with RPTV and Airport?

I got a dlink DWA-140 that works well. I originally bought it for my mac, but it did not work (website claimed it did) so I put it on my server.

Is this a USB camera? If so, you will need iChatUSBcam. Check with www.ecamm.com to see if it's supported.

  • Looking for good backgrounds to use with a green screen?

Any ideas where I can ding them?

    Hi
There are lot's of Pro qualities at Pro costs.
I just got to a normal textile reseller and bought blue and green sunshade fabric
This worked greatly - to start testing and learning
    My main problems are
    • Width of fabric - it is near to impossibly to combine two fabrics to get a wider area. No one I know of can make invisibly seams.
    • Wrinkles - Tough to iron a 3m(10ft) x 3m(10ft) fabcric
    • Lighting - Lighting needs to be even
    • Support - This I need to figure a lot more about

  • Blackmagic Intensity Pro Card - Best Use With HDV

    Hello
Given the choice should I use my Blackmagic Intensity card on my Mac Pro to capture HDV footage via HDMI or YUV Component. Or should I stick to firewire.
The card was initially bought for realtime previewing whilst editing HDV footage in FCP. My plans are to connect the card to a 21" LCD monitor via HDMI connections.
One of the Panasonic reps told me to stick with YUV as it does not compress the footage during the transfer stage as much as firewire?
    Is this true?

With all due respect, your Panny rep was on crack.
Capturing over Firewire — whether it's DV or HDV — is a raw-data-stream copy from the tape. It's not actually a video operation at all; the signal is in no way changed. It's just copied from the tape directly into your computer.
Going out of your camera or deck via the component analog ports will give you lower-quality results than transferring over Firewire. Whether you can tell the difference depends on what kind of footage you're capturing.
Another point to keep in mind is that HDV is 1440x1080 with non-square pixels. Capturing it either via HDMI or component analog scales the footage to 1920x1080, introducing some softness in the image. This softness is even worse in the chroma channels, since HDV is only 4:2:0 to begin with. It's better by far to keep your footage in its native format throughout the editing process. If you're going back out to an HD digital master or to an HD tape, you can decide whether to scale to 1920 at that point. If you're shooting on HDV to deliver on SD DVD or over the Internet at less-than-full HD resolution, you're better off staying in 1440x1080 forever, never scaling up to 1920, and just doing a single down-scale at the end.

  • Where can I get more filters, transitions and special effects for FC?

I thought I heard that there is a third party company that has transitions and cool effects and filters I could use with final cut express. Does anyone know who they are, and if they are creditable?
    THANKS!

Oh no I don't have a problem with free and I don't think expensive things means it's better. It's just easier to install a couple discs of software then to go through a bunch of sites and sift through all the free ones. I used to use iMovie and GeeThree made it easy with all their discs. That's why I am looking for software. Plus if anything ever happens to my computer it wouldn't take any time at all to reinstall the CD then to go through and find everything again. Thank you again for your suggestions.

  • Closed Lid use with Internal Microphone

Is it possible to configure the internal microphone so that I can use it when I'm running my MacBook Pro with the lid closed? I close the lid and attach the MacBook to a large external monitor and still want to use Skype.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
The internal microphone (and speakers) are still active when in clamshell mode but in my experience it picks up a lot of 'noise' and vibration from the MBP itself and isn't very effective for speech. I use an external microphone (MicFlex) or the one in my external camera (Logitech) and they work well for video conferencing.
