Filter distort lens correction perspective

In using this filter, half the frame gets smaller and half the frame gets bigger, so which resampling method is being used since bigger and smaller have their own best methods?

Steve, you are in the wrong forum, try the Photoshop forum where this question belongs.
besides that. Using perspective can also be done in the Transform menu (cmdA - CmdT) will give you the frame with little squares. Using right mouse click gives you various options to transform the image in a better way then the lens correction does. This filter is better for pin and cushen problems...

  • CS2 question  Filter- Distort- Lens Correction

    Comrades...
When using the lens correction pane (Filter-> Distort-> Lens Correction) in CS2 I have never been able to use the hand tool to move a scaled (or not) image within the preview window. It just doesn't function.
eg., when correcting for vertical perspective the upper portion of the image is "cropped" by the top of the preview window and additional transparent canvass appears at the bottom. I'd like to pull the image down to center it but alas... no functioning hand tool.
Is this tool just broken or am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance for your advice.
(Intel and older G4 mac- same problem)

What I think you're looking for is a Move Tool not a Hand Tool.
The Hand tool is for navigating in an image. It doesn't move the pixels around.
The Move Tool is for actually moving the pixels around on the canvas.
There appears to be no such tool in lens correction.

  • Why is my new imac i7 (os 10.6.4)crash every time I am in CS5 using filter tool-lens correction?

In the middle of using lens correction tool or noise reduction filter, my new imac crashs, I have lightroom sometimes on, and Firefox brawser with music streming, any ideas why?

Maybe updating might help as you seem to be behind with the OS and don’t even mention Photoshop’s exact version.

  • Use Lens Correction or Transform/Skew for Vertical Perspective??

I recently visited the Redwoods in California and took many photos of trees with a wide angle lens, which as you know causes the trees to bend inwards. I have tried using both Filter/Distort/Lens Correction and Transform/Skew to attempt to correct the problem. It is my observation that Lens Correction reduces the number of pixels by producing a trapezoid shaped image with the sides slanting inwards. Skewing does the opposite: increases the pixels by creating a trapezoid with the sides slanting outwards.
What are the pros and cons of using each method to correct vertical perspective? How will the image quality differ with each method? Thanks!!

  • CS4 Lens correction filter/grid & color

In Distort>Lens Correction filter, the default grid is 16 and the color gray. Is there any way to change that so it stays to what you choose?
Everytime I change it, it changes back to the default settings when I use it again. How do you get your own settings to stick? Is it possible....what's the trick? I can't seem to find the preferences for this...if they even exist.

I think so..thanks you for sharing

  • Vingette, from distortion filter lens correction

Lens correction, and therefore vingette does not apper in my distort filter drop down menu in cs5????? can I put this in to this filter or is it somewhere else.
    thaanks Denise

The Lens Correction adjustment appears right below the "filter gallery" in your filter menu in CS5. You can use the keyboard shortcut "Shift+Cmd/Control+R". You can also opt to open your image up in camera raw, and access the lens correction options from there.

  • PS CS2: Running Lens Correction Distortion filter results in hang

Hi all--I want to use the lens distortion correction filter, but every time I try to bring it up it just results in the spinning beach ball.
I tried to delete the preferences file but it's not where it should be: ~/library/preferences/adobe/photoshop/etc.
I found the above information here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=331483&sliceId=1
So, now I'm at a loss. Other possibly pertinent info: Mac OS 10.4.11 (but it did it before the latest update), Photoshop 9.0.2.
    Please advise. THANKS!
    --d
[edit]: I recently did a reinstall of the suite, hoping that would help. No luck.

    Update:
I tried to run some of the other filters and although they do not cause a crash/hang, they definitely take a few seconds to work. The Lens Correction filter is still causing a hang, but the other filters are working. (I guess more RAM is in order... soon enough I'm going to have to update everything and will need it...)
Anyway, I did change the RAM requirements as suggested but haven't seen any improvement.
I have just purchased Disk Warrior, so I'm expecting to receive it in the next couple days, and will run it when I get it. (I have been advised more than once to purchase it.) I have run Cocktail as well, with no change in behavior.
The thing that gets me is that the photo I want to correct is only 17mb. It's not like it's a monster... and why just the one filter and not all of them? Can I just reinstall the one?
Anyway, if anyone else has any ideas, please let me know.
    Thank you!

  • Does the lens correction profile for the Canon 24-70 eliminate all distortion?

The new Camera Raw seems excellent in the Lens Correction...I will be photographing dancers and will have only 9 feet to work with. I would like to use the widest lens I can with lens correction. The question is whether this new program will flatten out the 24mm lens or if I should use the 35.
    Roger Minkow

To add to Eric's great explanation, the corrections here are for barrel and pincushion distortion. That can be present in a lens of any focal length.
What isn't corrected is the effect in wide angle lenses where there is spreading of the image of three dimensional objects away from the center of the field. It happens at any distance, not just close up. It is caused by the extreme angle of projection from the back of the lens to the flat film/sensor plane. Think of a straight on photo of a building that has equal size columns across the facade with a wide angle lens. The columns at either end of the image appear wider than the (same width) columns in the middle. Retrofocus design wide angle lenses help a little bit (the rear of the lens is further from the focal plane than in a standard wide angle), but the distortion is usually there.
There is also distortion from being too close to the subject. Focal length doesn't really matter in that, except that longer lenses don't have the field of view to take in the close subject and can't usually focus that close. So we associate this distortion with wide angle lenses. This sort of distortion would be that where a person's nose in the middle of the frame looks very large and there is quick falloff in size to the eyes, ears, background. I think of this as more an issue of perspective, and this is controlled by camera placement, not by focal length or lens design.

  • Scale difference between Camera Raw and Lens Correction Filter in CS6

I have the latest Camera Raw plugin (8.6.0.254). When I open an NEF file from a D800, the resulting image is 4912x7360 pixels, whether I apply distortion correction or not.
If I load the NEF file, do not apply distortion correction in Camera Raw, but then apply it via the Lens Correction Filter, the image must be rescaled to approximately 4840x7252 (some 98.53%) so that it matches the results of the Camera Raw plugin (minus the missing pixels around all four sides, of course).
Anyone else notice this (particularly in newer versions of Photoshop)? Is there a way to prevent this cropping? The amount of distortion on the lens (35mm) is minimal and, regardless of that, I would have expected Camera Raw and the Lens Correction filter to output identical images after distortion correction, since the lens profile is the same.

To see if that can be replicated, we'd need to now the exact version of CS6 you're running (e.g. on Mac you should be on Photoshop CS6 13.0.6) and the exact version of your OS.

  • Lens Correction filter not working?

I upgraded to CS5 specifically to use the auto lens correction feature (primarily for barrel and pincushion distortion on my Canon zoom lenses). Now I find that:
Even though the camera back (5D Mark II) and lens information is included with an image, the lens correction filter requires me to manually select the back and lens.
Several of my lenses are not even included in the data base, even though they're very popular lenses (e.g., EF16-35mm 2.8 L USM II and EF 70-300mm DO IS USM). I realize the data base is to be enlarged, but these seem like inexplicable omissions. (And I have no desire or time to create my own profiles.)
The PDF instruction manual for CS5 offers no help, and I don't see this issue addressed in the forums. I'm hoping someone will be able to advise me on how to make this function work.

    Jeff,
Thanks for the quick answer, but I still think the menu is misleading.
If the body choices were in the format of "full frame, 1.3 crop, 1.6
crop, etc.", it would be clear that the specific model didn't matter.
However, this would create its own problems since many people wouldn't
understand the concept of the crop factor for their camera.
The fact that the 5D Mark II exists in the pull-down menu as a discrete
choice in addition to the 1Ds Mark III implies that there is a difference
between the two. Even if there is no functional difference in this context,
it would avoid confusion if the actual body from the EXIF information could
    always be the default selection.
       Thanks.

  • Nikon D800 Camera not listed in the Lens Correction Filter under camera models in Photoshop CC 2014

I do not see a Nikon D 800 Camera listed in the Lens Correction Filter under camera models. Is there any way to update this ?

The lens distortion corrections are encoded in such a way that they are independent of the body of camera that they were determined with--in other words they are in terms of millimeters not pixels.  The only issue is that lens profiles computed on a crop-frame body can't reliably be applied for the same lens on a full-frame body because the lens profile from a crop-frame body won't cover the entire full-frame lens image circle.
So as you're looking for a lens profile just make sure you're using a full-frame one if you have a full-frame or crop-frame camera, and don't try to use a crop-frame one on a full-frame camera.  I'd expect Adobe only computes crop-frame profiles for crop-frame lenses, and uses full-frame camera bodies on full frame lenses, so there shouldn't be a problem.

  • Lens Correction Filter

Actually, in Lens Correction Filter window in Transform section of Custon mode, the Horisontal Perspective slider does absolutely OPPOSITE things than the little pictures around it shows me to do.
I mean, I turn the slider to the right, but my perspective goes left (it grows up on the right, but the picture tell me thet it will decrease to the right).
It confuses me all the time.

Normal and expected behavior.  Well known, too.
    Just convert to 8-bit RGB.

  • Lens Correction Filter Canvas Extension

Ever since the Lens correction filter was introduced, I have was frustrated by the fact that the part of the image, which gets shifted off-canvas when adjusting the perspective, gets cropped.
As a workaround, I have made it a habit to first float the background layer, then extend the canvas size all around by ten percent, before entering the Lens Correction Filter dialogue.
Would it not be a lot neater if this functionality was included/ not needed in the Lens Correction Filter?

    Hi,
Have you tried turning off the "Auto Scale Image" check box, located right below the automatic correction check boxes?  Using the Vertical/Horizontal Perspective sliders will still crop a tiny bit, but it should be significantly less with Auto Scale Image turned off.

  • Still no perspective control or lens correction?

Did I miss somelthing or is there still no perspective control or lens correction in the latest release of Aperture? I was very excited to hear about the new MBP's and an updated version of Aperture today, but very disappointed to see no mention of perspective control among the New Features.
Lightroom has had this feature for years and so has Capture One. As an architectural shooter, I think it's definitely time for me to switch. I know there are plugins for this, but I hate creating a new image for a very simple adjustment to perspective and would prefer an easier and non-destructive option.

There's a pretty decent amount of stuff for a incremental (free) update. I'm as anxious as anybody for the mythical Aperture 4 that fulfills all of our hearts desires. I imagine it's been so long between major versions because of all the iCloud and no Retina Display stuff they've had to work in, but at least they are still making it a priority. Fingers crossed we'll see 4 later in the year.

  • Lens correction filter doest work after hardware change

    Hello,
Since I reinstalled my computer from scratch  after a hardware change (went from AMD GPU to an NVIDIA GPU)  lens correction filter doesn't work anymore.
I can open the tool, do the corrections but when I pusch apply, the tool is closed but the corrections are not applied to the picture in the editor screen.
    No layer is added.
When I close PSE multiple temp files are left in the root directory of my secundary drives.
This happened with PSE 7 so I bougth PSE 9, de-installed PSE 7 and installed PSE 9. Guess what: same problem, no corrections applied.
Is this Nvidia related since everything worked nice in PSE 7 with amd catalyst drivers ?
I'm running Vista32 sp2, with latest directx and latest nvidia geforce drivers.

    1) The problem with the Delete Cropped Pixels option is that it essentially eliminates the nicest functionality of the new crop tool.....My suggestion to Adobe would be to enable some way of having the screen view imported into the lens correction filter but leaving the cropped information intact for future adjustments once the image was returned to the main PS window....
    2) The Camera RAW preferences setting adjustment was what I needed, thank you!
    3) The problem with the saving to PSD option, is that even when I do NOT have layers, it seems to default to saving as PSD.  Essentially, any adustment I make, except the most basic, even if I do not have any layers as a result, gets interpreted as needing to be saved as a PSD.  This is categorically different than in all prior editions of Photoshop.  (For instance, whenever I worked on JPGs and I would save a file on older versions, it would simply default to JPG unless I actually had visible layers in the layers window.  On this one, if I do anything like content-aware fill, or use the patch tool or healing brushes, it then saves to PSD by default, even though there are NO visible layers that need flattening.  It seems as if the program is interpreting those kinds of adjustments internally as layers and selecting PSD as the necessary file type to save to as a result.)
Thanks for your help; if you have any other suggestions for work arounds for the third problem, I would greatly appreciate them.
