'Filter' failed error EPSON STYLUS SX515W

Before upgrading mountain lion. I set up ESPON STYLUS SX515W which was fine. Then I upgraded mountain lion os. I cannot print as it's said 'filter' failed. I tried to resolves this problem. All I did was that I deleted the printer and add a printer again through system preference but it's still not working. So please guys help me to resolves this problem. It's so frustrating.

I had the same issue and tried everything.
Finally, I re-installed OSX completely from OSX utilies on the recovery disk using cmd R when booting the mac.
OSX took over 6 hours to download and install itself back. The following morning the Mac was on and ready.
I can print now.

Epson R2400 'Filter' failed error after 10.8.2 Update

After the recent 10.8.2 update my Epson R2400 printer fails when printing with a 'Filter' failed error. Everything was working normally beforehand (10.8).
I've rebooted printer.
I've removed and installed printer in the control panel.
I can get the printer to print with the opensource gutenprint driver ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/files/ ) but it doesn't handle color profiles correctly which is just as bad as not being able to print at all.
Any ideas?

Just to follow up. I've now confirmed this issue on several machines. The Epson drivers installed by apple will always lead to 'Filter failed error'.

After install it will fix the problem, but annoyingly after you install it software update will keep prompting you to install a new set of Epson printer drivers... don't do it, you'll start getting the error again.

Epson XP-200 failing on CUPS with a "Filter Failed" error

After this last update, my printer has stopped working completely, always with a "Filter failed" error.
Before the update it worked perfectly, never had an issue.
I've tried every combination of turning on and off, reinstalling the drivers, reinstalling cups, etc... nothing got any results.
None of the related issues I found googling got me anywhere closer to having it work either.
If anyone has some fix for this it would be very appreciated

You show the OS receiving an image from Photoshop, and the OS starting the Epson print driver and handing it part of the image, the driver connects to the printer, then the print driver fails. It looks like a bug in the Epson rasterizer, or the printer communication.
You really need to talk to Epson. Photoshop isn't involved in that error.

My HP LaserJet CP1025nw won't print, "Filter failed" error

Whenever I print something, it acts like it's about to then a system notification just says "printing stopped." There is a "Filter failed" error at http://localhost:631/printers/HP-LaserJet-CP1025nw. I have hplip installed, and have reinstalled it a few times. Two things I've tried from searching the web. I cleared the pacman cache and still the same issue. I tried installing foo2zjs from the AUR, but it would not compile (did not pass the validity check). It prints fine on Linux Mint. I'm out of ideas and don't know where else to go. Any suggestions?

That page's troubleshooting for the "Filter failed" message worked out. I consulted the Wiki before but never found that exact page. I guess I didn't use the best search criteria. Thanks for pointing it out.

How do I get Elements 10 to recognise my scanner - Epson Stylus SX515W

My scanner/printer works ok with other applications on my computer and worked with elements 8.
However, if I try to import in Edit with elements 10 the scanner isn't listed.

Are you saying that the "WIA Support..." menu item is not present?

Hi again, when you clicked on Mountain Lion and Lion in the App Store you are telling the laptop to reinstall them both.
You may have allowed simutanious downloads checked at the bottom of the window, I don't know, but I expect Mountain Lion is downloading, so Lion is waiting for it to finish, so if you have Mountain Lion installed cancel both download's.
Cancell both downloads anyway.
Go to the apple logo , top left, click on it, then click on about this mac, a window will open telling you what's installed, Mountain Lion is OX 10 version 10.8.2 click on more info, to find out more, Lion will be OX10 version 10.7.4.
Only update were it say's check for updates, not download now.

Canon Pixma MP610 fails to print and returns a " Stopped - 'Filter' failed" error message.

Hi, I have updated to latest OS and now my Canon Pixma MP610 fails to print and returns a " Stopped - 'Filter' failed" error message.
I am running OS X 10.9.3 (13D65) on a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5 iMac with 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
I've done a complete system re-install and also performed a targetted install of just the Canon Drivers - but all to no avail.
The printer is OK with regard ink-levels and is/was working fine. It will print out 'photocopies' independantly of the iMac. Additionally, from within the Print Queue I can view the ink-levels so there are comms between the iMac and the Canon - it's just that 'Print' seems to be off topic.
Can anyone help as I have to get a document out tonight

Is that device desSystem Preferences - Print & Scan - Right click the printer and select Reset Printing System. DO NOT use any Canon software.
You did not advise how it is connected (USB- Wi-Fi- etc..) so it's a little difficult to assist with so little information.

Canon 8080CW Filter Fail Error

Howdy Folks-
Getting a "filter Fail" error on my MacBook Pro via VM Fusion on the PC side. Seems to print fine from the mac side. I uninstalled the printer and all Canon software then reinstalled and still getting the error.
Any ideas? Canon was no help....

Canon MF4400w Printer - "Filter" failed error. Can't scan either.

I work in a wholly Mac environment. We have around 10 plus Macs in the office, most of them running 10.8.3 (the latest I believe). All Macs are able to print to our Canon MF4400w Printer fine EXCEPT mine.
I've had a Canon technician come by. We've installed/reinstalled the canon drivers multiple times, tried via USB/Wireless, and I personally looked up these forums to try and diagnose the problem myself. As far as I can tell, it has something to do with "capdftopdl", whatever that is.
This is a new iMac that was purchase a few weeks ago. I've used migration assistant to transfer my files from my old Mac to this new one via LAN cable. Printing from this Mac has always resulted in the "Stopped. "Filter" failed." error. It has never printed successfully despite trying multiple different drivers.

Things I have tried:
1) Some threads suggest that it may be a corrupted Font problem. Followed steps suggested by thread, no luck.
2) Some suggested it was a setting under network. Followed those steps, still same problem.
3) Setting paper print size to A4/Letter

Can you reply with your email address, but in the form of user_name at domain_name dot com (dot country if applicable). I have some files to send you to replace the Canon files that are possibly causing the error.
Also, for your reference, you posted in the Lion forum but you have Mtn Lion. If you posted in the Mtn Lion forum I would have got to you sooner.

Epson stylus office tx610fw Filter failed error - repeating even after reinstallation

I have been having trouble printing since updating my system.
I have looked at some other discussions and have checked that the name is in the computer sharing. I did actually get it to print once about a week ago, after deleting and reinstalling the epson driver, but now the same error is happening again.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Epson stylus SX515W multi function wireless multi function printer

I use windows 7 operating system on a Pavilion g6 laptop and my printer is an Epson StylusSX515W and is set as my default wireless printer, each time that I need to print something I have to remove the printer from my network then reinstall it in order for the computer to comunicate why is this and is there a fix?

Filter Failed problem wit ML

Hi,
I have an iMac with Mountain Lion (recently installed).
Today i tried to print to my Epson R1900 and i got the "Filter Failed" error and nothing printed.
I can find that this is a problem which occurs a lot with ML & Epson printers, is there a solution ?
When trying to delete the printer and reinstall many times the printer cannot be seen by iMac & ML.
When successfull (reinstalling Epson driver) this does not solve the issue (Filter Failed message keeps occurring).

Filter failed

Have an HP photosmart 7700 series printer.....trying to hook it up to new MAC...with latest OS x 10.8.... printer shows up, but when I go to print I get stopped "filter" failed error message. Please help!

Unfortunately this did not seem to work. Still recieving filter failed error. It is funny because I can get it to print a test page...but nothing else. More error log....btw thanks for all your help!

I am having the same problem as described here, but with a HP Color Laserjet 4700dn printer:

When printing in MacOS 10.10.1 Yosemite from any non-Adobe app and
1. selecting a custom paper size - in my case: a C5 envelope with the following sizes (in mm):
width: 162 mm
height: 229 mm
margins top: 70, left 75, right 0, bottom 10 mm
but I've also tried to create a custom size that's the same size as A4 but with different margins
2. selecting landscape orientation,
I get a "filter failed" error in the printer queue and then a Apple crash report window that starts with the following:

I've tried to reset the printing subsystem and re-adding the printer, and also repairing permissions, but it didn't help.
Is HP and/or Apple aware of that this is a problem also for the CLJ 4700 series? Any info on when this will be fixed?

After reading all the clear information you provided, I strongly believe the document you reference is related to your problem's scenario: using custom papers in landscape mode with a PostScript driver, after updating to Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite.
I recommend you frequently update your Mac OS X 10.10 system with Apple updates, as the component crashing is part of Mac OS. I have verified that the issue is, as today, not yet fixed in Apple's Mac OS X 10.10.
Until then, the workarounds referenced in the document should be applicable to your scenario as the only solution. Alternatively, Mac OS X versions prior to 10.10 Yosemite do not include this bug.
I would like to hear from you if the workarounds worked for you. I will post an update once I verify Apple finally released a fix for Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite.
