"filter failed" HP printers fails to work over the network
I got the common error "filter failed" when using my HP Color Laserjet 1600 through the network. Yet the printer works fine using directly from the computer it is connected via usb.
This is my home network and I am not here often, but I am fairly sure everything worked out-of-the-box few weeks ago...
I already tried both suggestion from the wiki, I started and enable avahi-daemon in all computers and the set the permission of the usb port to 0666:

try making certain that you have the latest drivers installed, which you can caget fron HP. After downloading do to system prefs>>print/fax. hightlight the HO1320n (use the - key). then use the add 9+) key ang select the HP1320n icon to add the nem printer. Set the HP as your your default printer. When you go to print for the first time, make sure that the selected printed is the the HP1320. It should go. Sometimes it need to be re-created when there are multiples.

Pinging a printer to see if it works over the network
I've been printing from a Windows 7 computer to a PSC C6180 over a wireless network. All of a sudden it stopped printing. I don't if a power surge or something blew some stuff out (the fax part is already gone) or if it is something else.
I removed the printer and removed the installed software in order to put it back in its "initial state."
Before I removed the software, I tried to add a network printer to see if that would do it. At the point in the process where it looks for printers, it didn't find it. It makes me wonder if it will work over the network at all, but I do note the blue 802.11g LED is lit.
Before I reinstall the software (AIO_CDA_FSW_Full_Win_WW.130_140.exe is what I have) I want to ping the printer and see if the computer can see it. What's the ping address?Hello ErnieLane,
Please follow steps 1-4 described in Access the Embedded Web Server to print a configuration page, it will contain the current IP address (if any).

Im very new to this "networking thing" so your patience is welcome. I have managed to get the Time capsual AE up and running and thanks to bonjour I have a printer via USB working. However, its an all in one machine and I can not work out how to get the scanner to work over the network - or even if its possible. Is this possible?
No, you cannot scan over the network, unless the printer has network capability.. in which case the printer must connect via ethernet or wireless not USB.
All USB printers are designed as local printers not network. -
HP 932C PRINTER DOES NOT WORK OVER A NETWORK WITH TWO DIFFERENT OPERATIONAL SYSTEMS.
I have a 932c HP printer connected via USB to a Windows XP desktop computer (Dell E520), which is part of a home network.
I also have an HP Pavilion dv5 notebook, running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, connected to the same network. This notebook can find the printer over the network. However, when I try to capture the 932c printer, the following dialog box appears:
"The server for the `hp deskjet 930c series` printer does not have the correct printer driver installed. If you want to search for the proper driver, click OK. Otherwise, click Cancel and contact your network administrator or original equipmente manufacturer for the correct printer driver."
When I click OK, another dialog box appears:
"The file `*.INF`on (Unknown) is needed. Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK."
However, I can't find any workable *.inf file in the HP notebook Hard drive (both partitions).
I have already tried to download the driver from the HP website, but it says that Windows Vista already has the driver for such printer! Well, now I'm stucked!
I'd like to point out that the printer works fine if I plug it directly to the HP notebook's USB port. But I want to operate the printer via the home network, keeping it hooked to the Windows XP desktop computer.

Has anyone had problems with the latest Lexmark printer driver update? My Lexmark printers won't work with the latest driver update. If I reinstall an older version of the drivers, they work.
Mine crashed once with new update, but working fine.
I had to delete old printer, restart iMac, and then reinstall
new drivers to get it to work. Would not complete without
the restart after deleting non-working printer. No problems
since and all features working. -
Best Setup for Working over a Network (What is it)

I'm been using Dreamweaver for awhile now, both at work and
at home as a hobbyist. My preferred setup when working on a set is
to be connected via FTP to the set so that I can work on the
documents directly without have local and remote versions of the
documents.
If I do choose a local directory and then also a remote
directory with and Local/Network connection for the remote files
that works failry well but I end up getting local copies of files
and folders that I'm working on, which is good for performance but
not so good when there is getting and putting of documents and a
slow connection.
My preferred method using a Local/Network connection for the
remote files is to do that and not even have a local folder and no
local files.
Like I said, the only remote connection for me that seems to
work well is the FTP connection.
Wondering what others experience is and what they recommend.
I guess I may have to change the way that I work but I would prefer
not to. I have used other programs as well (e.g. BBEdit (which I
like, I'm working on a Mac), TextMate). These are a little faster
but there is still some performance issue when working over the
LAN.As a professional, I would never work in that configuration.

mistake and you have just clobbered your only copy of the
file. Of course,
I never make such mistakes, but I've seen others do it! 8)
I will always work from a local site, and upload to a remote
site. I test
from a local networked MySQL/PHP server. My sites are all on
a shared
network drive so that I can a) easily back them up, and b)
access the same
sites easily from several locations within my peer LAN.
When you elect to not have a local site, then you lose the
option to use
some of DW's basic capabilities, like Templates and Library
items. While I
rarely use the latter, I use Templates all the time (along
with a healthy
dose of SSI).

My imessage stopped working over the wknd when I went to check if it was on it had switched off on its own. Now I try to turn my imessage back on and its giving me some kind of server error. Any suggestions?
Ok actually my mistake it says "an error occurred during activation. try again" I spoke with apple tech support right now and she mentioned they are having trouble with there servers. Do you by any chance know what the restrictions area means? Should that be activated or deactivated, does that make a difference?

Can TC work over the internet?
I would like to get a TC, but before that I would like to know if TC can work over the internet, if am at school or work, just open it as it was a local hdd and stream some music or files.

In other words, remote connections to Time Capsule hard disks do not seem to work from PCs even though local network connections do seem to work for both Time Capsule internal hard disks and for USB-connected hard disks.
I would be interested to know if anyone else has had a different experience with respect to Windows PC connections. -
How to get Profile Manager working over the internet?
I've set up profile manager at home and it work great on my local network. Now I wanted to make it work over the internet but I can't figure out how to do so. I've already opened the required ports. When I try accessing the User Portal trought my <external ip>/mydevices it asks me whether I trust a certificate or not, but when I choose "ok" it keeps requesting the URL forever until it times out. Am I required to have a registered domain name to access my server or I can just use my external IP ? Is there anything else I should do in order to have it working?
First off, you say you've opened 'the required ports', but which ones are they, in your opinion?
That may sound like a dumb question, but it isn't meant to be. You'll need port 443 to support HTTPS connections, and 1640 for the Certificate Enrollment server.
Additionally, you WILL need a valid domain for this - at least if you don't want authentication errors. SSL certificates rely on the hostname (amongst other things) to provide validation and if you access the site via IP address that validation is doomed to failure. That shoudkn't lead to the problem you're experiencing, which is no response at all, but it's still an issue to resolve. -

Its very disappointing that bbm is not working on bb.Can you try sending a BBM friend a PIN message, not in BBM, but in your Compose Message > PIN.
You will need that contact's BBM PIN number...
Do you see the message sent, and does it hae a D beside or R afterwards?

The Exchange Management Shell fails to connect in Exchange 2013 environment, this is a DAG environment and previously it indicates another error message, which is in my another thread. We fixed that error by delete the retired proxy entry in the server registry,

Hp 1320n will not connect over the network

I'm trying to get my macbook pro to with 10.6.8 to connect to my HP 1320n printer through the network. It works fine when I have it connected directly via USB. I'm trying to get it to work through the network. I have the printer connected to the router and My macbook pro is using wireless. It can detect it with bonjour but when I try to to print it says trying to connect then can't. I tried setting it up with the IP address that the printer has but it can't connect to it either. I got the printer address by pressing the green button on the back of it. Also is there anyway to reset the printer? it has an old host name which I can;t figure out how to change. I tried holding the green button in the back for 3 sec. I also tried turning it off and then back on while holding the green 'GO' button on the top, both failed to reset anything.
ultimatily I'm trying to get my two 1320n printers work work with my 2 computers in the office. My other is an imac with the latest version of software.

Time Machine over the Network: Terribly Slow

I've been using Time Machine for over 3 years now with no issues over the network; the destination being a 2TB external Seagate connected to another iMac connected through gigabit ethernet. Everything has been working flawlessly: Every hour Time Machine would MOUNT the sparseimage it created on the disk, BACKUP the data and UNMOUNT the disk image when finished.
Until I upgraded to Lion. The above process is still working per se, however it is PAINFULLY slow! A 50MB backup can take up to AN HOUR! Searching around on the net, advised that there could be an issue with Spotlight as well, however this is not the case for me, since Spotlight finished a new index in under 30 mins. Followed every tutorial I could find on the issue, to no avail..
I then upgraded to Mountain Lion with the hope that the issue will clear itself. Cleared my old backups, resetted Time Machine by erasing its .plist file, restarted my iMac just to make sure and connected Time Machine to the network share anew, creating a "sharing only" account on the host iMac, i.e. the one that has the external HD connected through USB. Still no luck.
I painfully realize that I still have the same issue. While backing up, network traffic is under 100KB, and activity monitor does not show any backupd or mds or any similar processes taking anything over 3% of CPU time.

Tries on the other iMac (also running 10.8.2) and things are exactly the same: Image creation takes almost half an hour, and copying crawls at under 1MB/min. While time machine image is mounted and Time Machine is "backing up", accessing ANY disk on the host Mac is VERY slow. Seems like something hogs up appleshare when Time Machine is in use. Mind you, there is insignificant network traffic as seen by Activity Monitor, as well as insignificant CPU usage while backing up.
Stopping backup and using tmutil to set the Time Machine destination to the mounted image as mounted by Finder, solves the issue again, revving up Time Machine throughput to over 20MB/sec! There is also no issues acessing the other Mac as well, under this scenario.
Up to this point, the only way I have managed to use Time Machine over a networked external HD is through the NAS server. Both configurations where I am using a Mac running 10.8.2 as a server of the external disk have failed with very low throughput while backing up. Something must be wrong in 10.8.2's afp when Time Machine is mounting the image by itself.
I may need to remind you that I have been successfully backing up to the external HD for 4 years now; something broke a few months after the client iMac was upgraded to Lion and at the time when the host iMac was upgraded to Mountain Lion. Will try to locate a Mac running some later OS X version to do some more testing.
Also reminding that I have used two distinctive iMacs and two external HD drives for my tests so far. The client iMac has remained the same, however 10.8.2 has been reinstalled on it a couple of times. Have also used an afp-enabled NAS server which worked fine with Time Machine. -
Airport won't print over the network
I have a basic HP Photosmart C4200 series printer. It works fine when I plug it directly into my computer but when I plug it into the router, it won't print and this message comes up : "Unable to read response header - short read"
When I delete/add the printer from Preferences, it finds the printer and establishes connection but when I try to print over the network, it gives me that error message.
A weird thing I found was that when connected to the airport, my printer shows up under the iDisks tab under the Airport Utilities instead of being in the Printers tab...Welcome to the discussions!
A number of entry level printers are designed so that they will only work when they are connected directly to a computer, so that may possibly explain your problem.
To verify, you can work your way through Apple's troubleshooting guide to see if this is the case. If you've completed all the steps and still can't print, I think you have your answer.
