Filter Keywords listing

Hi,
"Filter > Keywords"  listing is A to Z .
I want to use it in categorized view . Is it possible ?
( I mean : I want to use filter keywords like the "Keywords Panel" )
Thanks

With the filter panel you can select images by a keyword.  With sort by keyword you alphabetize by keyword.  Between these 2 I don't know what is not covered.  Perhaps again I don't understand what you want.  The filter panel is only active on the current folder.
If your photos are like mine, they have multiple keywords.  So a sort does not do much, except bring all the images with keywords to the top of the screen.

  • Keyword list problem: "No photos match the filter"

    LR4.1 64-bit Windows 7
I have  relatively small (1k), and completely flat (non-hierarchical) keyword list.
for a small number of keywords, I have the following problem:
If I open Library, witht the centre panel in Grid View, then select Keyword List from the RHS panel, and select one these "problem" keywords, On the rhs of the screen it shows a number, indicating the number of images to which this keyword is attached.
I then click the arrow next to the number to display the images with this keyword.
the library filter opens in the centre panel of the screen area, dropping down the Keyword filter and correctly highlighting the selected keyword; however against this, the keyword show 0 matches and the message "No photos match the filter" is displayed.
If I right-click on the keyword in the Keyword List  and select delete, the message is displayed that the keyword will be deleted from n photos
Thus I don't  know if there are photos with the keyword which are just not being displayed, or whether there are a number of "phantom" keywords which are not associated with any images.
It may be that I am lacking understanding of some aspect of LR functionality; or that somehow there is an indexing problem within my LR catalogue.
thanks in advance for any help and advice

Thanks, I've been having this trouble in my catalog since LR3, problem is still there in LR4.3.
I used your suggestion to show the offending photos in a smart collection and could finally see the photos to fix all the keywords that way.
Most of mine have come from duplicate keywords that I accidentally created - I have a hierarchy of keywords and some have appearedin two places. So I have been trying to delete the old unwanted ones but have not been able to see the photos when using the filter or the keyword arrow.
My solution was to rename every one of the old dud keywords with a suffix of "XXX" - this also helps me to not use those old keywords again. Then I made a smart collection that simply searches for all keywords containing "XXX". From the collection, I go through the photos and replace the old keywords with the new corrected one. Once the filter shows the count of the number of photos down to 0 as it should be, I can finally delete that old keyword!
I am keeping this new collection (called "XXX Keywords to fix") for when it happens later... This sure sounds like a bug that Adobe needs to sort out.

Using Windows 7 and LR 5,  when I look at the Keyword List a certain keyword has 7 pictures but when I check the Library Filter with that keyword 350 pictures are shown which includes the 7 pictures that have the keyword.  Why does the Library Filter showing pictures that do not match the query

    Dan,
Here's what's going on in the catalog you sent me, "Joel & Caitlin's Wedding".  There is the keyword "gwenn", which is explicitly assigned to 7 pics. But keyword "schwartz" has a number of synonyms, including "gwenn", and it is assigned to 25 pics.  There is no overlap between the two sets of pics.
I discovered these two occurrences by doing Metadata > Export Keywords, opening the exported file in an editor, and then searching for "gwenn".  I found two occurrences of "gwenn":
    gwenn
    schwartz
        {gwenn}
From this, you can see that the keyword "schwartz" has 9 synonyms, of which "gwenn" is one.
The filter criterion "Keywords Contain gwenn" will match the 7 pics that are explicitly assigned the keyword "gwenn", and it will also match the 25 pics assigned the keyword "schwartz", because that keyword has a synonym "gwenn".
This illustrates the behavior I mentioned above: The criterion "Keywords contains x" will match against any of a pic's assigned keywords, any of those keywords' ancestor keywords, and any of the synonyms of the assigned keywords and their ancestors.
So LR is operating correctly here, if not in a way that's easy to understand.
It appears that you are using the synonyms of "schwartz" to represent individual members of the Schwartz family.  A better way of representing family relationships is to have a parent keyword "Schwartz", with subkeywords for each family member, e.g. "Gwenn Schwartz", "Joe Schwartz", "Jane Schwartz", etc.  Repeating the family name in the subkeywords has a couple of advantages. LR usually only displays the "leaf" name of a keyword, so instead of showing you just "Joe", it will show you "Joe Schwartz", helpful when there are a number of different people whose first name is "Joe".  Also, if you ever export your pics to other software, it may not understand the LR hierarchy and won't show the parent keywords, so again it's more informative to see a keyword named "Joe Schwartz" rather than "Joe".

  • LR bug: Keyword list scrolls up when you filter

This seems like a bug disguised as feature that goes back several versions of Lightroom.
When you have a huge keyword list, and scroll down a meaningful way and then filter to see photos that have a certain keyword, the list automatically scrolls back to the top.  This is pure madness!  The list should stay put where you are and not make you scroll down back to where you were.
Why is this useful? Imagine trying to manage keywords and doing cleanup where you have a bunch of keywords next to each other (or in the same parent keyword in a nested list), that you want to cleanup one after the other.  The auto scroll to top behavior is just crazy and makes me want to not manage keywords!

I'm on Windows.. i was getting the behavior I described 100% of the time when I wrote my original post.
However, now when I tried to repro it to screencapture a video to show you all, it doesn't repro.  Oy.

  • Keyword List doesn't show the correct images when clicked

I'm using LR 2.3RC on a Windows Vista Ultimate PC, although the same error occurs on LR2.2.
I have a keyword structure "Karl > Family > People" with Karl having 33 images with this keyword. When I use the "Keyword List" on the right panel in the Library module to display these images I get over fourteen thousand images in the grid! This doesn't happen when I use the "Library Filter" bar above the grid.
    What gives?

    Don,
the result of clicking on "Karl" should display 33 images in total. In fact I'm getting 14,589 of a possible total of 14,734 in the catalogue. This hardly a limitation, rather the opposite I would say!

  • How to Filter the List in Combo Box in JDeveloper?

Hey guys, I really need your help regarding this matter. In JDeveloper, I need to filter the list in combobox in order for us to query faster especially when the list is very long. For example in a 'Country' combo box, when you type 'p' in the field, the list must filter simultaneously all countries that start with letter 'p' or when you place 'ph', all countries with 'ph' in the beginning. If you have sample codes, keywords needed, or sites recommended to solve this problem, it will be very much appreciated. Thnx.

  • Library filter keyword search odd results for containing keywords

I have a keyword tree Family>Smith>Peter.  I used the library filter keyword containing "family". This produced a large list of images and in the keyword tag box I saw the word "Family" with an asterix. I deleted the family keyword from the list and save the metadata.  i was epxecting my filter to show no photos but it still shows the same number.  It would seem that althoguh no photo has the keyword "family" on it they still show up in the filter because they contain "peter" and this is a child of "family".
Is this normal behavior as extremely irritating as trying to rationalise al lthe parent keywords that have bene accidentally exported.  If I only want photos where family is a keyword is there anyway I can do that?
    Thanks Mike

The problem is I lable close family by name, but large family groups as "family".  If I just want photos with large family groups I should be able to search by keyword "family" and only get images that have that as a tag.  However I get these plus any photo that has any keyword that is beneath "family" in the hierachy.  I have turned of the export function so an image with just "peter" does not show "family" under the "will export" keywords.
It seems the default search is by keyword and everything below it. Is there some setting that it will only return images that just contain the actual keyword asked for?

  • Using the URL to filter a list

    All,
I am using the URL to filter a list, for example, FilterField1=Writer&FilterValue1=Chris%20Tobey.
In this method, we need to provide the FilterField which is the column name. Can we do the filter for all column? For example, I would like to search all items in the list which
contains "hello" in any column by using the URL?
    Thanks

    Hi,
The query string in URL won’t be able to meet your requirement.
    The OOTB
Search box for a list can be found above the list view, it can search items contains the keyword in the current list:
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/154/t/171565.aspx
Or if you want to do more customization, work with
Search API programmatically would be required:

search items in a particular document library with specific keyword

  • In Keyword List panel, need to support quotes for AND'ing multi-word keyword searches

As far as I know (and read around), there's no way to search multi-word keywords in the keywords list panel using the "Filter Keywords" box. i.e. If I want to search for the "Great Blue Heron" keyword in a large animal keywords list I have, Lightroom will OR the three words instead of AND'ing them like Aperture does more intuitively. Adding quotes like "Great Blue Heron" doesn't work either. Again this is to filter a large keyword lists through the "Filter Keywords" box in the Keywords List panel.
Am I missing something? Is it possible to AND multi-word keywords?
    Thanks.

    Rob,
as far as I know spaces are also contained and allowed in controlled vocabularies (e.g. for the "official" names of animals 'little panda' for example and plants). I'm using spaces for names very often. As a prof. photographer I need to write captions for all of my images before sending them to my agency with WHEN/WHAT/WHERE/WHO etc. So when shooting persons very often or regular (e.g. politicians or athletes) I started years ago to create keywords and hierarchies for them. So it is much easier and more comfortable to assign them later.
Please check out PhotoMechanic or IMatch. These progs doesn't have any problems with spaces in keywords and keyword searches...
BTW: when using a space in a search I expect that the default behaviour of such a space is a locical AND.

  • Strange Keyword List Filtering Behavior

When I filter down for a word and want to see its sub-word and maybe add another one I click on it and reset the filter. And after that I can browse down until white line of selection where I stop and discover what words I have inside selected word and add another one if I need. It worked this way in LR2 but now selection of a word in filtering mode doesn't save when I reset a filter! But selection is not filtering! Why you've made this change???
Update: I just got why Adobe made this change. Because now I don't need to expand word branches to see the end of it with requested word—LR3 temporarily expand the branches when you search for a word. BUT if you select a word of TEMPORARY expanded branch—the selection won't be saved after filter reseting!
So, we can use the following workaround: If you expand all keyword listing down to the end white line selection will be saved after filter reseting.
But the best solution I see here is to give a possibility to see sub-words of filtered word even if they don't have requested word—just make them gray for example (but save a possibility to edit them).
Flickr plug-in and better watermarking (which doesn't work for my demands) are reasons why I wanted to upgrade but this is a second keyword list change which I don't like! You can check for another change in LR3 Keyword List behavior here http://forums.adobe.com/message/2908024#2908024 Because of it I need to have keyword list with all synonyms opened in text editor to search before adding another unnecessary word which I already have in synonyms. If you have CV with big branches and a lot of synonyms—this is a problem. Please fix!

    HI William...
Hopefully just a corrupted preference file.
    Locate this file. com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences.
Drag that .plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac.
If that doesn't help, boot from the SL disk and check the hard drive for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
    Check available disk space.
Control or right click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop. Click "Get Info". Under the General tab you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is at least 10% available disk space, 15% is better.*

  • Searching keywords list

    Hello,
How to make a search with AND criteria in the keyword lit on the Library module, Keyword List section?
    If a have keywords like
    "ABC DEF"
    "ABC DGH"
    "ABC EFG"
I would like to search like ABC AND D and have only the first two entries displayed...
    Thanks
    Yannick

If your keywords actually start "ABC D" then you can filter on keywords and use STARTS WITH.
Alternately you can use a Smart Collection where you can create a multiple step criteria set. KEYWORDS CONTAINS ABC then KEYWORDS CONTAINS D. This still won't be perfect but it should collect all of those images. But some images may still slip in. For example if you have two keywords (continuing your example) "ABC XYZ" and "DOG", that image will be in the Smart Collection because it has both ABC and D contained in its keyword list.

  • Keyword list errors

My keywords were part of my import from Elements into LR2.  Some where in the process I developed some keyword errors.
I have one keyword that shows 59 photos in the keyword list, a sub category with 5 photos and a sub-sub category with 2 photos.  All categories and subs have the same name.  When I use the Library filter I can find only 49 photos.  When I click on the arrow to the right of any of the keywords 49 photos are shown, not the 59 /5/2 listed.
How can I correct this problem?

This is a long-standing bug in LR on Windows -- the Keyword List pane is limited to showing about 1600 keywords.  A workaround is to introduce more hierarchy into your keywords and keep most of the parent keywords collapsed.
You could submit a bug report to the new Adobe feedback site:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/products/photoshop_family_photoshop_lightro om
(There may already be a bug report there on this topic, but I couldn't find it.  It's perfectly ok, and preferrable, to submit a new one and let Adobe merge it with an existing one if they can find it.)

  • How to filter the list of data

I am using af:inputComboboxListOfValues to display drop down list of data. The list is binded to a LOV.
I have a requirement that if the value is used in other place, I should not get it listed on the drop down list. I research doc that it let me use "launchPopupListener" to filter the list of data. As a test code, I coded like this:
    public void launchListener(LaunchPopupEvent launchPopupEvent) {
    // Add event code here...
    DCBindingContainer bindings =
    (DCBindingContainer)BindingContext.getCurrent().getCurrentBindingsEntry();
    DCIteratorBinding dcItteratorBindings =
    bindings.findIteratorBinding("PersonVO1Iterator");
    dcItteratorBindings.getViewObject().setWhereClause("PersonEO.FIRST_NAME <> 'John'");
    dcItteratorBindings.getViewObject().executeQuery();
But it does not work. It seems that 'John' is removed from VO but doesn't removed from UI combo box drop down list.
What can I do to fix it?
    JDev Version 11.1.1.6.0
    Thanks.

  • How can I copy keyword list to a new library

I'm a keyword fanatic. Keywords are my most favorite feature of the product. It's the reason I use iPhoto in the first place. I recently created a new iPhoto v6 library and can see that the keyword list did not get migrated. Is there a way to do this? Can I export and import the keyword list? Thanks.

    gtigan
Keywords are kept in the main database file and when you create a new library, you create a new database.
The only way I can think of to what you want is to select a single pic and give it ALL the keywords, then use iPhoto Library Manager to move that pic from the old library to the new one. iplm is the only way to move pics and metadata between libraries while using v6. (hmm, another reason to upgrade.)
And, as I mentioned in my other post, if you're a "keyword fanatic" then check out Keyword Manager

  • Export and Import a Keyword List

Yesterday I exported the keyword list and then acted on the suggestion from LightroomSecrets site to 'organize' while it is in text format. This went very well using a text editor.
The IMPORT doesn't overwrite the existing list. It merges INTO the list.
So now I'm still scrolling up and down collecting the keywords that are stand alone to undo and then put a checkmark beside the subkey in a category. I would have been wiser to have reorganized a few and repeated the export, import <grin>
If keywording is promoted as such an important feature and a main item for management in Lightroom then, it would seem to me that the 'LIST' itself could have been designed in a more efficient manner...Such as : a right click menu...or a browse and choice to move to...
I suppose the architects of this list assumed users would have their keywording planned out ahead of time. Never assume <grin> I've only now (V1 to V3.4.1) got my head around the category concept so much reorganization required. Scroll up and down and zoom past the category wanted....not an exercise I can stay with for long periods of time <LOL!>
