Filter manager causing event 41 restarts?

On both Win 7 RC and Win 7 home premium 64 bit, I have been "enjoying" the sensation of sporadic black screen shut down/restarts.
I ran the RC on my previous system with no probs, but since upgrading my mobo to a Gigabyte X58 udr3, 6gb Corsair ddr 3 and Intel i7 920 processor, I seem to have joined that happy band of people who experience this frustrating occurance.
As I dont get a bsod, I dont even get proper error details, and the bugcheck (which apparantly causes these events?) is 0.
The only link I can make, after rummaging in the event logs, is that exactly 5 secs before every critical kernel power shutdown, the filter manager is up to something.
Any MS boffins out there like to add their thoughts - love Win 7, but this is a tad frustrating!

Hi Swtrains,
I don’t think filter manager is the cause. If it is, you may run System File Checker or reinstall Windows 7 to fix the issue.
If it really works fine in Safe Mode, the possible cause can be the hardware drivers. Because in Safe Mode, only the basic hardware drivers are loaded.
The following steps can narrow down the cause, but it is time consuming.
Device Clean Boot
===========
Please unplug all unnecessary devices to test your computer's performance. In this situation, your system will only have the basic hardware devices and it should be more stable.
If it is inconvenient to unplug the devices, we can disable them in Device Manager. Please refer to the following steps:
1. Click "Start", type "DEVMGMT.MSC" in the Search textbox and press Enter. Please click “Allow” if the User Account Control window is prompted.
2. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers".
3. Right click on your Sound Card, select "Properties"
4. Click "Driver" tab, click Disable (Disable the selected device). Click OK
5. Please use the same method to disable other hardware such as: Modem, network card, CD-R drive. Please note some devices such as video adapter are not available to be disabled.
Then, restart your computer. Does it still crash now?
If the system is stable, we can re-enable the devices one by one to narrow down the root cause.
If the issue still persists, the motherboard or CPU may have problems. If that is the case, I recommend asking the computer vendor to examine it.

  • Filter Manager failed to attach to volume...

Filter Manager failed to attach to volume '\Device\HarddiskVolume52'.  This volume will be unavailable for filtering until a reboot.  The final status was 0xC03A001C.
System is Windows 8.0 Pro 64-bit. Error seems to occur daily, around the time of a backup operation. Backup errors regard failure to backup Skydrive directory. From other threads, it seems this error involves VM disks. Since I am not running VM on this machine,
that would be most disconcerting if the error does not involve Skydrive (onedrive). The number of errors matches the number of directories skipped.
All users on machine show Onedrive folders in Explorer. Could the Skydrive folders be remnants somewhere, perhaps the registry, that can be removed.

    Hi,
Please see information in this link:
    http://www.mcbsys.com/techblog/2012/12/filtermanager-event-id-3-during-backups/
According to the guide above, we can view the Details of the event log, find its process ID (PID), then find the realted process\service with the PID which causes this issue, you can use Task Manager, it will be mostly cause by Windows Search service.
You can also find some explanation in the following link:

  • Blank Event Filter for Receive Event Activities:  OK?

I've defined an event group that is linked to multiple Raise events.
My event subscription is linked to this event group, and launches a workflow process when one of the event group's events is raised.
What's bothering me is that in Oracle Workflow Builder, for the Receive event activity, since I can accept one of any several events, I have to leave the Event Filter field blank. From the Oracle Workflow Guide, chapter 4, section "To Create an Event Activity":
"Note: You can only specify an individual event as the event filter. The event filter cannot be an event group."
OK, so that means I have to leave my Receive event's Event Filter field blank. I'm not inviting unwanted events this way, correct? Do I have to code to prevent this workflow process from executing a "rogue" Raise event?
This might be a silly question.
    Thanks,
    Art.

    Mike,
any chance a future DPM version can/will leverage SQL Management studio/SQL Agent for backup job scheduling ? I am sure many DPM admins who (may) know the significantly greater scheduling flexibility of SQL server agent would love to
    see this happen.
The proposed workaround would require to build at least 6 additional filters (given the current filter uses the allowed max 7 days) and during 2 weeks in the year the unaware/unprepared DPM admin - may perceive the mmc crash as the beginning of the
    end.
Please tell me someone is willing to look at the source code to get this remedied. I know this cant be a SQL problem since SQL server agent jobs run fine time change or no time change.
Thanks for your ongoing help already.

  • Bug report: Energy Manager causes slow performance...

    Very slow Windows Startup..
Energy Manager's plans and the problem occured using any plan as I remember, and it wasn't an issue with the maximum processor state. I had heavy disk usage, especially access to the Page File, which is what the person in the second link I posted also described. CPU usage was low. The disk usage was seemingly not related to Energy Manager (Chrome was usually the worst), but removing Energy Manager completely resolved the problem. If you would find it helpful. I'm quite confident that even with Maximum Processor state at %100, CPU usage was low when it was slow, and that disk access was the culprit.
previously have use 1.0.0.31 or 32 not sure.
    Windows 8.1
Im using Lenovo Energy Management Driver
    1.0.0.28
    4.6.2014

I actually have the same problem.  Sorry to work on a old thread, but...
I've got my Lenovo B50-70 less than 1 month ago, and had switched it to SSD and had set everything up and is working perfectly.  However there are a bunch of lenovo programs that came pre-installed.  This computer is used mainly for work and I really don't like programs that suddenly pop-up and ask you to do stuff, as it is quite distracting, and with Lenovo Energy Manager being one of them so I removed it.  (I did do some research before I remove...)
Everything was fine, until when I try to switch on my wifi (I usually have it off, as I use LAN most of the time)...  For the B50-70 there is a airplane button on F7, which allow the user to switch wifi and bluetooth on/off.  That button was unresponsive...  After some digging it is actually related to the power energy manager being removed.  So I've downloaded the latest version from Lenovo and it was working again...
However though, whenever I start my computer it is taking so long to start...  And I tried uninstalling the power energy manager and it solved the problem...  And I am stuck with either having no wifi on/off ability or a really slow boot, which loses the whole purpose of the SSD.  After you enter your username and password it originally takes around 5~10 seconds to login, now it takes over 1 minute.
I have found this other link, which says Lenovo Power Manager having the same problem.
    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/Bug-report-Power-Manager-causes-slow-performa...
There is a solution, which you can change the registry to switch a function off.  I've tried it and it didn't work, which is not surprising as it's a different program..  But I am hoping that Lenovo can provide a similar solution for Lenovo Energy Manager...

  • Can I filter News or Events by time (so that past items disappear from listings)?

Can I filter News or Events by time (so that past items disappear from listings)?

Thanks for your reply. I'm trying to find a way to divide events into two lists, "forthcoming" and "past events" which will automatically work without too much work for my client. If I set an event to "expired" is it still in the database and if so, can I list all expired events?

  • PIQ causes a cyclic restart gets an exit code of 666

    Hi Guys,
We attempted to process a large file in PIQ and the file is so large that it causes a cyclic restart. Meaning that the java stack gets an exit code of 666 that causes the Java stack to restart and then it immediately gets an exit code of 666 that causes the Java stack to restart. I need to find a way to force it out of the cycle. I would like to know how to force it to skip this message or to somehow kill the process. Any ideas? We donu2019t care about whether it can process the file or not, we just want it to stop. We will figure another way to process large files.
Can any one please suggest me on this best approach...
    Thanks,
    Siva..

    Hi Lucas,
    Thanks for ur note...
I can restart the java stack, but it will almost immediately go into a restart and eventually hang. The problem is that the really large file is causing it to get a exit code 666 and then it restarts and then it gets an exit code 666 and then it restarts and then it eventually hangs. This is what I have been describing to you. What I originally asked was how to force it to stop.
    please advice me on this...
    Thanks,
    Siva..

  • ITunes causing Windows to restart

I seem to have an issue at the moment with iTunes causing sudden system restarts quite regularly - usually when I am browsing the store. It seems to date back to when they added all the coverflow to each of the categories. It's not related to any recent Itunes update and only iTunes does it; no other program.
    Anyone else getting this?

Also could it be my Vbios is somehow corrupted or causing this as it always seems to happen when windows is booting up before I have access to my machine right when it would be accessing the vBios?
    Nope

Ok so if anyone ends up having this rediculously confusing problem like I did allow me to say, simply unplug your other monitors from your computer and then run the Nvidia driver software, works every time now. Only 1 monitor can be plugged in at one time while running the driver updates.

Doubt it is a Hardware issue...
If the Reset and the Restart have not Resolved the Issue...
Then the Next Step is a Restore...
    Restore...
1: Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the steps in this article to force the device into recovery mode.

  • XTier Service Manager Causing Delay In Windows Explorer

Before I get into too much details...
Novell XTier Service Manager causes delay displaying folders in mapped drive. This happens in Windows Explorer when I click on any mapped drive OR when I click on My Computer.
This happens after about 10min+ of "idling".
Stopping Novell XTier Service Manager makes this delay go away immediately.
Any type of help will be greatly appreciated... I'm really out of things to try...
    I have Win7sp1x64 with Client 2 SP3 installed.
    Thank you.

It might help to change the provider order, such that "Microsoft Windows Network" is placed above "NetWare Services" See TID 7000693.

  • UB12 DRC error filter manager doesn't save filters

In a PCB design, I have about 30 DRC errors that cannot be corrected due to the nature of the design (overlapping parts). These DRCs are listed in the results tab and the DRC tab of the spreadsheet view.
On the DRC tab of the spreadsheet view, If I right-click the DRC list and select add to filter, the DRCs disappear from the list, and the DRC markers disappear from the workspace. - Cool.  I then switch to the results tab of the spreadsheet view, right click and clear the results list.  Then I run the DRC and netlist check.  Still no DRC markers in the workspace, no DRCs listed in the DRC tab of the spreadsheet view, no DRCs listed in the results tab of the spreadsheet view.  Just a note about filtered DRCs.
I right click on the DRC list box in the spreadsheet view and select filter manager.  Filter manager appears and the filter I just created is shown.  I close the filter manager, then I save all and close UB.
I start UB again and open the same project and electronic design, the DRC markers show again in the workspace.  However, the DRC errors are not listed in the DRC tab of the spreadsheet view.  Even if I run a DRC and netlist check.  However, the DRCs are listed in the results tab of the spreadsheet view.  If I right click in the results list, I cannot filter the DRCs.  If I right click in the DRC list I can select add to filter, but nothing happens.  If I open the filter manager, no filter is shown.  If I use the task bar to switch to another program, then switch back, that's when the DRC error re appear in the DRC list.
What's with this coo-coo behavior, and why doesn't the filter manager save my DRC filters?
    Thanks
    Regards,
    Who

    Hi,
The filters applied to the design should be removed everytime you re-open the design. These filters do not get saved along with the design. I tried out the filter manager and it seems to show the DRC errors right away after I re-open the design.
    Hope this helps.

  • N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC, Causing windows to restart before loading.

The topic kinda says a lot my N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC is causing windows to restart. I did not originally have this problem however after a recent reformat I started to have windows crash on the loading screen giving me and error

      C:\Users\Fritz\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-44881-0.sysdata.xml
However, after some testing on my own I discovered it was card and/or driver related to your card/driver. As when I start windows without a video driver ... it is fine every time. Yet once the driver is installed, bang, crash every time. The only time it did not crash was when it was updating windows, pre-SP1 on win7 ultimate. Which is some kind of wierd workaround the crash. Now it seems to be persistent and I do not plan to reinstall windows everyday kinda like I have had too the last couple days. Helps plz !!

Also could it be my Vbios is somehow corrupted or causing this as it always seems to happen when windows is booting up before I have access to my machine right when it would be accessing the vBios?

Ok so if anyone ends up having this rediculously confusing problem like I did allow me to say, simply unplug your other monitors from your computer and then run the Nvidia driver software, works every time now. Only 1 monitor can be plugged in at one time while running the driver updates.

That thread does point on the Profile managment, and redirection of %appdata% and %localappdata% . Those to folders are not redirected. But when i run Procmon, i can see that a working user creates the c:\users\<username>\appdata\local\temp but non
