Filter or Smart Collection for Exported Images?

I want to keep track of the images I export. (in most cases to skydrive).  Can I set up a filter or criteria for a smart collection to do this?
Thanks

You perhaps have the free uploader rather than the full plug-in which costs about $10 and can be used with the LR Publish Service function which identifies modified photos that need re-publishing and gives you a record of what has been uploaded, in the form of a collection.
See this link, but you need to go directly to the developer’s website for the latest version.

  • Smart Collections and Exporting

I've searched for an answer and couldn't find one so here is my question.
Is there a way to have an image automatically go in to a smart collection when exporting to a specific folder? I have a folder on my desktop that I export every image I want to upload to flickr. I'd like very much for these to also be added to a smart collection. For the life of me, I can't seem to figure out how to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

Thanks Rob, but I was really wondering if a copy of the original raw file could be added. But I'll have to try this to see if I like it. Thanks again!
Right now I'm using the target collection option, but I have to try and remember to hit the b-key when I export.
Oh - I misunderstood, thanks for clarifying.
In that case, it's even simpler, just assign a Flickr keyword to the raw prior to exporting and (assuming the keyword is picked up by your smart collection), the same raw will be there to export to Flickr too. - no need for a real or even virtual copy of the raw.
Or have I missed the point again .
PS - If you want to assure it's automated, so you don't forget, then you can use this feature of Exportant:

  • Smart Collection for images with changed metadata not written to disk?

The thumbnails in the grid view have a little icon in the upper right corner when the metadata for the file has been changed but not written to the XMP (or whatever) files.
Is it possible to create a LR2 Smart Collection, or maybe a filter, that will find all such images?

Dave, good to know that Ctrl-S on everything will write it all out.
John, I *hate* being blind about what is going on. So I can Ctrl-S on everything and get it all written out. But I can't tell how many images I have changed, or perhaps also sort them by type so I can see what kinds of files will have to be rewritten. I can't even tell if I've remembered to do a Ctrl-S and whether there are images with data only in the catalog and not in the XMP etc. files.
I'm one of those who are more comfortable if everything that can be recorded in XMP is recorded there. But I don't want to leave auto-write to XMP on while re-organizing everything.

  • Can I create a Smart Collection for images with Paths?

I'd like a folder that automatically collects any image i have in my library in which i've drawn a vector clipping path in Photoshop. Is this possible?

    I couldn't figure that out.
I was hoping the file would contain a metadata call that said "Path: yes" or something like that on which I could set up the smart collection but I couldn't find one either in Lightroom or Finder.
It's possible this piece of metadata doesn't exist, and if so I'll solve my problem with keywords, but I wanted to ask before i assumed.

  • Smart Collection for flagged doesn't update

For some reason flagging new entries doesn't reflect in the smart collection. Even after recreating it always picks up the same 32 entries and disregards others. I tried using both "any" or "all" conditions, even though it's the only one.
Dual Xeon Quad Core, 8GB mem, XP x64 Edition (I know, not officially supported, but seems to work fine :)), LR 64.

Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there.

  • Registry Settings for Exporting Image resolution (RDC XI R2)

The following document describes registry settings to control exported image resolution:

    However, that document is old.
Where can we find instructions for XI R2 RDC applications?

There are several informal & conflicting suggestions that one can find via internet searches.  For example:
Add the following registry entries under HKEY_CURRENT_USER
-> Software -> Seagate Software -> Crystal Reports Designer Component -> Export
    BitMapMagnifDenominator = 4 (DWord)
    BitMapMagnifNumerator = 5 (DWord)
I'm looking for a definitive document/instruction from SAP.
One of my customers just reported that the following settings work:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER
-> Software  -> Business Objects -> Suite 11.5  -> Crystal Reports Designer Component -> Export
    BitMapMagnifDenominator = 1 (DWord)
    BitMapMagnifNumerator = 4 (DWord)
    Thanks,

  • Create Smart Collection for Photos Without Lens Profile Applied?

The subject pretty much says it all. Is there any way to create a smart collection of photos that have not had lens profile corrections applied?

Sadly, it's not possible using the options avilable within Lr's Smart Collection dialog. However, some third party plugins might be able to do it, although I'm not aware of any.

  • Stacking versus Collections for grouping images to be batch processed

My typical shoot is studio portraiture, with shifting backgrounds, poses and lighting setups. I can usually batch about 25 images in a single chunk before something changes to require a new retouching approach.
If I want to group like raw images needing similar retouching with Lightroom, should I use Stacking or Collections?
I've read the full manual, and it's not clear to me which is the better approach. Stacking is called the approach for this in the manual, but it involves the step of unstacking or stacking. Collections seems just as appropriate.
Appreciate any insight on which of these 2 most people use to group like images, as well as any other info on where people use stacking or collections.
    I'm Windows XP.
    Thanks
    Paul

    Each to there own.
I see stacking as a set of images that have a distinct similarity, for example a model shoot of similar poses, what ever. the idea is to stack on top the most favorite/desired and stack under the less favs that u want to have access to at a later time, or just cant part ways with.
I see collections as a vertual way of re-catorgorizing a set of images.
In your case, another way might be to assign a specific keyword relevant to the light scene or touch up required, on import.
Or use the star ratings, personal choice to a point.

  • Anything similar to Smart Objects for bitmap images in Fw?

In Ps you're able to place a bitmap image on a layer and convert it to a Smart Object, allowing you to resize that image non-destructively. Is there a way to achieve this in Fw?

There is indeed. Convert the image to a symbol. Modify > Symbol > Convert to symbol. Choose the Graphic symbol type.

  • Need script for exporting images to EPS

I need to write a script to export a whole bunch of files from Indesign CS3 to EPS files. Right now we do them one at a time...here are the steps we take that we would need included in the script...
Select all (Control A), ungroup, convert to outlines (control-shift O), export (need to be able to say black or white or RGB) and then close the file without saving.
and if there was anyway to loop this script for 20 files at a time that would be really helpful.
Can any help or direct me to a website that can help.
    Thanks!

  • Organizing a smart collection

I have created a smart collection of my photos from various folders in preparation for sending to Blurb Booksmart for an annual retropective.  All photos are virtual copies and have metadata and exif data.  Is there a simple way to arrange the virtual photos in the smart collection for export strictly by date of capture - oldest to most recent - even though they physically live in different folders?  What I would like is an "Arrange By Date" option but have not been able to find such.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Besides that, you'll probably need to rename on export to one of the formats that incorporates a sequence number. If they keep their old names, they'll probably get sorted in alphabetical order by whatever place you send them to, and your carefully produced order will be scrambled. Make sure the sequence number is formatted with enough leading zeros.

  • When editing an image in ps from a lr 4.2 smart collections image not shown back in smart collection

    Hi all,
I have noticed at LR 4.2, that if you edit an image of a smart collection using PS (edit in PS function threw LR) and then save, the image is not appearing in the specific smart collection. Instead  image appears in the parent folder from where the smart collections retrieves images.
Has anyone notice that as well??
Forgot to mention that my parent folder with files is a collection created with virtual copies of seleveted files. If i edit in Photoshop directly threw this virtual copies collection then the files appears in smart collections as well. but if i edit in PS directly from smart collections then files dont appear into smart collections neither at the virtual copies collection!!

"obviously you use virtual copies when creating those collections" - why? It seems to me that this just increases the number of images in your Library for no benefit, unless you want to independently edit  the two image versions, one inside the Event collection and one outside the collection. If you ever wanted to see an unedited version of a particular image, LR retains the history (and before/after view) needed to show that, within the single thumbnail.
It is not necessary to make a Smart Collection in order to show only picked images from a particular event. You can use a Filter to show just the picked images and hide the rest. That means you can work inside the collection, and that means that when you edit an image to PS, the new LR version WILL inherit the collection membership as well as the Pick status, and therefore will immediately show next to the image it is based on.
I think this is going to be simpler and easier - BTW you don't have to go back to Library Grid view in order to apply filters, only in order to configure them in the first place. By saving Filter presets with a name, you can then select between these directly [from the menu at the right end of the Filmstrip] while you work, even in Develop- for example, "no filter", "picked", "unpicked", "rated two or more", whatever you want. Also you can switch between the recently-viewed collections and folders [from a menu when you click on the image details text toward the left end of the Filmstrip], to change the underlying content of the Filmstrip, to which you are applying these filters.
By "using selection criteria other than membership in a manual collection", I just meant: a special keyword, or a particular folder, or some combination of such things. But if you prefer to put images into a Collection, you can just use that directly and IMO you don't need the SC.
I personally like to have some kind of sufficiently identifying keywords on the image anyway, so that Exported copies will also show this information automatically... since an exported image will not reveal what collection its master image belonged to, that classification alone is not enough IMO.

  • Smart collections not reading correct number of images inside

I have an issue with smart collections for the first time. I have just set up a new workflow with 4 stages and the number counter next to the collection is counting wrong despite the images being represented in the collection. For example if I click on the smart colection I can see 10 images inside but the counter reads 3. Does anybody have this experience?
I have optimised my cataloge, however I do have some 20,000 images inside... will this reduce the ability of LR to keep up to running speed with such smart collection operations, giving incorrect readings.
What are best practices for image numbers and the arguement for running multiple cats. I've just tried in a fresh catalogue and the results were perfect. Is this an inherent limitation of Lightroom? I was under the impression that I could manage my whole archive and current projects under one roof, as it were.
    Thanks,
    Graeme

I suppose it would be worth optimising the catalog, if you haven't already done so.
Another idea, may be to make a fresh catalog and "import from another catalog" your current one, into that. This transfers pictures and keywords, collections, smart collections etc. But if there is something "structural" or "infrastructural" wrong with your live catalog, I'd expect that to get left behind by this process - since everyting should AFAIK get re-indexed after being brought in.
Then you'd go forward with the new catalog, if successful. Doing this makes no change to your present catalog so can do no harm to try - the various pictures' source files are simply shared across both catalogs - single file referenced by both, IOW.
One thing in your post (which I did not fully understand) suggested to me that your workflow relies at some point, on external metadata being written. If your workflow and smart collections criteria rely on the LR tracking of the status of external metadata, such as "is up to date", I believe this specific aspect has been found quite buggy and unreliable by many people: the metadata status badges etc, being sometimes rather approximate in their correspondence to reality . So if some other criterion could be found on which to base your workflow, that would probably go more smoothly .
However, if you do have more than one catalog pointing to just one set of photo source files, that aspect of writing metadata out, will of course be a little problematic - since the latest catalog to have written to the file will "overwrite", and the other catalog(s) will regard that same image as having been externally modified meanwhile.

  • Smart Collection and copyright

I see how to set up a smart collection for copyright status. But I do not see how to set up a smart collection or filter that selects on whether the copyright field itself has been filled in (contains the © copyright symbol).
Is there any way to do that? It seems to me that a flag saying an image is copyrighted is not terribly effective of the copyright statement itself is omitted.

Guy – I am having a very similar issue in this discussion:
