Filtering app search for "itunes file sharing"

Is there a way to do a filtered search in itunes for apps that support itunes file sharing? Looking by trial and error has not been all that productive. I've found a couple useful apps that use the itunes file sharing: Phone Drive, and Quick Password Manager. I'd also like to find a decent spreadsheet app, that's smaller in size than the giant Apple apps--trying to retain room for some music.
I don't use the cloud or wi-fi, so itunes file sharing is very useful for transfering files, etc. And if there is a app or method for syncing between itunes file sharing and my mac, that would be a bonus.

Anything actually stored in iTunes, docs, apps, ect, should be backed up. If you are bacing up the iPad to iTunes, those back ups files would be in Time Capsule (although I confess, I've never had to extract one).
As for apps themselves, they can always be redownloaded (both on the iPad and in iTunes on the PC).

  • ITunes File Sharing under Device/Apps does not add content to my iPhone. Why not?

    I have attempted to get iTunes File Sharing:
    1.  Select your device (in my case an iPhone 4).
    2. Click on the Apps tab.
    3. Select an application that allows for File Sharing and either drag a document or file into the documents area or use the Add button to get the file added.
    4. Click the sync button to sync the content to your device.
    I cannot get this to work. I have attempted to uninstall iTunes and all components and have also called Apple Support with no resolution. Has anyone else seen this issue and if so do you have a resolution?
    I have tried with multiple applications as well as multiple files with no luck.
    Any help is sincerely appreciated.

    Hi,
    You cannot manually manage music with match turned on on your iOS device. If you want to manage music manually, you will need to turn off match on your iPhone.

    When I open iMovie (09), the app searches for missing iPhoto files.  These are files I deleted.  I have to close about 30 dialog boxes before I can start using iMovie.  How do I make this stop?

    So it seems the issue is when iMovie is wanting to creat thumbnails, if I ask it to ignore then it's fine but if not it hangs up searching for the video file.

  • Itunes File Sharing: Adding files doesn't work

    Hi,
    i have a problem adding files via Itunes File Sharing in Apps. Here's my setup:
    Windows 7 64bit, german
    Itunes 11.1.5.5, x64, german
    Iphone 5s, 32GB, directly attached via USB
    several apps with file sharing support (OpenVPN, VLC, Good Reader...)
    Now, when i choose one of the apps and click "Add...", i get a file selection dialogue, select a file and click 'ok'... that's it.
    Nothing happens. The file is not added to the window.
    It's not added to the phone after a sync, so it doesn't seem to be a display  problem. But i don't get an error message at
    any point, so i'm quite flattered where to start looking for the problem.
    Steps so far:
    Reinstallation Itunes - no effect
    Reinstallation Drivers - no effect
    Starting with a new media library - no effect
    The only thing suspicious are some bonjour errors in the windows logs. But even with disabled bonjour service the problem persists.
    I've searched for this in the forums but didn't find a proper thread/answer for this.
    Anyone coming up with an idea? At least where to look for the problem? Is there a log file/command line parameter/deep inside special genius trigger to pull? I'm getting out of options here. :/
    Thanks a lot!
    Regards from germany,
    l0calhost

    Problem solved. Complete deinstallation of ITunes, computer restart, telephone restart and finally reinstallation of the app did the trick.
    But still, how would you debug a problem like this, when no error message comes up at any point?

  • ITunes File Sharing and Time Machine

    Does Time Machine backup the documents in the iTunes File Sharing pane on an iPad? If I deleted an app or file by mistake (or if my iPad crashed), would I be able to recover the file shared documents through Time Machine backups?
    Thanks in advance!

    Anything actually stored in iTunes, docs, apps, ect, should be backed up. If you are bacing up the iPad to iTunes, those back ups files would be in Time Capsule (although I confess, I've never had to extract one).

  • I accidentally added two .doc files, they show in iTunes file sharing, but don't show on iPad?

    I accidentally added two .doc files by dragging and dropping into itunes, under my device, then the app tab, then file sharing for Adobe Reader, they show in iTunes file sharing window, but don't show on iPad 3, and I cannot delete them on iTunes screen? Please help!

    First, I would advise you to apply Tao philosophy to this. Given the dysfunction of most software, if this was just an accidental copy and you don't want them on iPad and they are not showing up anyway, what's the problem? Forget it. It's not worth the hassles. I'm more concerned that you have psychological issues you need to be dealing with, not this. You are making much too unnecessary work and stress for yourself.
    As for deleting them, I'm assuming you highlighted them and hit delete and it didn't work. If not, it should. Works for me. But if it doesn't, my advice is also not to worry about it, as annoying as the clutter is. It will eventually resolve itself (like when your data files corrupt or your iPad crashes, LOL. (I apologize for my cynicism but I am fed up with dysfunctional software). It's not worth the hassles of trying to figure out petty issues.
    As for me, I have the opposite, and very serious problem. I've got Reader on my iPad too. But I can't move the pdfs out of it and onto my laptop with iTunes' dysfunctional file sharing. I get the error "file cannot be copied because you do not have permission to see its contents." I have hundreds of pdfs on my iPad that I converted from web surfing with other programs that also don't work and I can't get them off the iPad for backup and to have a synced library I can access from both laptop and iPad.
    I called iTunes twice and both times they blamed it on the app, saying iTunes file sharing doesn't support third party apps and that I should call Adobe and talk them into writing the code that will work with iTunes. Yeah, right. And Reader is not the only problem. This is happening with iAnnotate and Write PDF and other apps.
    I suspect that both of us have the root problem, perhaps Apple's greedy refusal to support the apps that it sells in the app store and are quasi-integrated enough to show up in the file sharing documents list, but can't be moved or deleted; and the apps that don't bother to make their apps fully work with iTunes file sharing.
    If anyone has any solutions ......

  • Can application A access the "itunes file sharing" files of application B

    Hi,
    Suppose that application B has files in itunes file sharing (i.e. files which can be saved onto the pc desktop via itunes). Can application A access these files?
    I know that there is some sandboxing, but dont know to what extent.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I mean the files which can also be viewed in the  "file sharing" section of itunes e.g. :
    http://slidetorock.com/help/itunes-file-sharing.png
    Clearly these files are stored in a different way to other files associated with the application. e.g. If I connect my iphone to a linux machine I can easily view these files for the different applications (but not other files of the app).
    I presume apps can also access other apps files which are viewable in "file sharing"?
    Thanks

  • How Can I Search for Media files by Length?

    I want know how can I search for media files (mov, mp4, flv and movie files in general) by their length?
    If this search function is confirmed as definitely not possible on the OS, I would appreciate someone recommending app that might be able to perform such a search?
    Many thanks

    No possible way. Because the files may be enoded with differing codecs, compression, etc., you can only sort by file size, not the 'length' of the movie files.

  • How to search for a file and copy it to somewhere else in terminal

    So basically how can I search for a file on my computer named "testingtesting.txt" and copy it to my desktop using terminal? I have very little experience in terminal, so I was going to try and use the mdfind command, then store that output as a variable, and use that variable as the source for the cp command, but I feel like there is probably a much simpler method. So basically how could I find a file named "testingtesting.txt", copy it, and paste it to my desktop using terminal.

    Is there any particular reason that you must use Terminal?
    You could just download the free EasyFind from the App Store and find the file quickly. Do whatever you wish with it.
    Good luck,

  • Searching for a file in java

    What I am trying to do is not very uncommon. I want to open a file in it's default application (or at least in a common one.)
    Mainly I am currently thinking either HTML files or PDF's.
    What I was wondering is how to search for a file and get its directory path. For example I want to search for the file "Acrobat". In windows its directory is "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe"
    But I know in MAC or Unix the path could be very different. Not only that, but what if they did not use the default installation directory. I just want to find the path of a file by invoking a search. Is there currently any way to do this?
    I know I can open a JFileChooser and make the user search and find the program they wish to run it in, but that certainly is not very user friendly. I'd rather the program just searched for the proper application(s) and then called the exec() method to run the file in the program.
    Any help is appreciated.

    java.io.File provides a listRoots() method that returns all file system roots. So for Windoze you'd get 'A:/', 'B:/' 'C:/' ... etc.
    Unix you'd get '/' and so on.
    Now you can use other File methods to recursively scan the roots.
    Here's some (untried) code to get you going that searches for all java.exe found on all roots.
    import java.io.File;
    import java.util.Arrays;
    import java.io.FilenameFilter;
    import java.util.List;
    import java.io.IOException;
    public class FindIt {
      public FindIt () {
        File[] roots = File.listRoots();
        List list = new ArrayList();
        for (int i = 0; i < roots.length; i++) {
          scan(roots,list,new FilenameFilter(){
    public boolean accept(File file, String name) {
    return new File(file,name).isDirectory() ||
    name.equals("java.exe");
    public static void scan(File path,
    List list,
    FilenameFilter filter) throws IOException {
    // Get filtered files in the current path
    File[] files = path.listFiles(filter);
    // Process each filtered entry
    for (int i = 0; i < files.length; i++) {
    // recurse if the entry is a directory
    if (files[i].isDirectory()) {
    scan(files[i],list,filter);
    else {
    // add the filtered file to the list
    list.add(files[i]);
    } // for
    } // scan
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    new FindIt();
    You will run into problems with some roots as they will be removeable media (cd's diskettes) or network drives (potentially huge number of dirs to scan). So I do not recommend that you search on all roots, but a subset.

  • Searching for a file in client backups - Window's Home Server 2011

    Here is my problem:
    I have great backups on WHS2011, but only need to restore a couple of files.  I am looking for a file a non-standard program uses, and it is not in any of the normal places.  I can restore the file if I can find it, but is there a way I can search

    I backup to an external hdd with Time Machine, when it ran out of space it did not delete old backups, now my internal hdd says its full when before it had heaps of space. I have searched for extra files but cant find any. Can anyone help, please.

    First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
    To locate large files, you can use Spotlight as described here. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
    You can also use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
    Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
    ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
    Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
    Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
    When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

    Hi RU,
    You've stumbled into the Numbers (for Mac) area of Apple Support Communities with a question not related to Numbers.
    You'll have a better chance of finding an answer to your iPad question in the Using iPad community. The link will take you there.

  • PSE5 "searching for missing file"

    Whenever I click on a thumbnail picture it gives me the message "Searching for missing file". Some of the pictures I was able to view only hours ago and now they are apperently missing. I have not done anything differently with these pictures. When I click on browse to search for the missing file, it is unable to locate the picture. I am afraid I have just lost hundreds of pictures!

    PSE keeps only the hard disk references (location) of the files imported. So, whenever any operation like file renaming, moving to some other location, editing etc happen to a file outside PSE, the file go missing in PSE. On double clicking a file, PSE tries to connect its thumbnail to the original file on hard disk and when it does not find the file, it shows "Reconenct" dialog.
    To reconnect the file, you've 2 options - Auto Reconnect & Manual Reconenct
    For Auto reconenct just double click the file and allow the dialog to search for file on your hard disk. This can be at times time consuming process.
    You can also connect your files manually:
    1) Type "Ctrl + K" on app. A preference dialog will open
    2) Choose "Files" from left side and uncheck second preference to "Automatically search for and reconnect missing files".
    3) Click "Ok" to save the settings
    4) Double click a missing file to open manual reconnect dialog.
    OR
    4') To reconnect all missing files in one go --> Goto File menu --> Reconnect --> All missing files. An engine will search all the files that are missing from the catalog and a manual reconnect dialog will be shown..
    5) Now, you can connect each file seperately by manually searching the hard disk.
