Filtering Images in the Catalog

Hello,
I am wondering how I might tell Lightroom to find all images that have a star rating in a specific folder and show them to me. I have used the "Rating" drop down menu but this only works if there are images that I have NOT edited in Photoshop (right click "edit in") upon being re-imported these images (TIFF) stay next to the original even if I set the rating to 0. I need to filter those out somehow.
TIA,
A

Using either of the Filter bars for Attribute (there is one at the top and one at the bottom, above the filmstrip) be sure to set the Equals sign for the star rating you want to filter. Often it is set to "Greater than or Equal to" which of course will include any star rating above the one you select. In your case it is probably set to "less than or equal to" which is why you still see the 0 star rated images.
Another option if this is a common use for you is to setup a smart collection with the same parameters.

  • Start a slideshow that picks the image in the catalog randomly?

    Dear all
    I wonder:
    Is it possible to start a slideshow that randomly picks the images from the catalog (or from at selection of images in the catalog)?

    You might try using this application, http://www.freemacware.com/desktop-movie-player, that will let you use a movie for your desktop picture and then hafve your Mac boot up to the desktop.

  • How do I add an image to the catalog?

    Usually, when I edit an image in Photoshop from Lightroom, I save the Photoshop modified image in a folder next to the originals Lightroom is showing, and the modified version suddenly is added to my images from that day's specific shoot (I keep separate shoots in separate folders.) This has all been fine because I can see everything I've done, including the Photoshop modified files all in Lightroom. But today I think I did something to throw Lightroom off:
    I think I've made a mistake in how I handled one image. I sent it to be edited in Photoshop from Lightroom, I then saved the new modified image from Photoshop to a 'modifieds' folder and then, back in Lightroom, I decided to delete the original image that was modified just because the Photoshop modified version was the only one I wanted to keep. In Lightroom, it seems to have depended on keeping that old file as 'connected' to the modified version because now, the modified version does not show up.
    To make it simple - I just need to know how to make the Photoshop modified image show up in the catalog, just so I can keep track of it from within Lightroom. I looked at 'Import' and that does not look like what I want (too complex.) Can you tell me how I should handle this?
    TIA,
    Ken

    It's not clear from your post whether your modifieds folder is already in LIghtroom or not. If it is then you can simply select it then choose Synchronize folder from the Library menu. If the modifieds folder isn't already in Lightroom you will need to use Import from Disk.

  • When editing externally (Smart Photo Editor) , LR5 does not stack, show or updates the new image in the catalog

    I am using  the latest version of Smart Photo Editor to edit in external editor from LR5. On LR4 the new image appeared in the catalog, not so with LR5. I have to go to the folder and Sync it so the image appears. Then all my other images are compiled and i will only see that one image which is the "latest import". MAybe something on the settings?

    i found LR5 the most bug infested LR version ever.
    i "use" it only as test setup.
    real work i still do with LR 4.4.

  • Filtering images from the selection

    I am writing a script that involves scaling and sorting images. Which means i have to access the geometricBounds property of the images. Now, when the selection contains either an EPS or PDF file the script fails.
    So i am trying to filter through the selection array to find images that are NOT EPS or PDF. I noticed that EPS and PDF files don't have geometricBounds. So i was trying to use that property to sort it. But i am running into issues. Any thoughts? Solutions?
    if(app.documents.length != 0){
      if(app.selection.length != 0){
      for(myCounter = 0; myCounter < app.selection.length; myCounter++){
      switch(app.selection[myCounter].constructor.name)
      case "GraphicLine":
      case "Oval":
      case "Polygon":
      case "Rectangle":
      if(app.selection[myCounter].contentType != ContentType.UNASSIGNED){ // checks to make sure frame contains an image.
         if(app.selection[myCounter].graphics[0].geometricBounds[0]) { // checks to see if image has a width property. else it avoids it.
               myObjectList.push(app.selection[myCounter]);
      break;
      if(myObjectList.length !=0){
                        openDialog(myObjectList, keyObj);
      // moveItems(myObjectList);
      } else {alert("Select some images, fool!")}

    I noticed that EPS and PDF files don't have geometricBounds.
    Hi,
    Both do - check Object Model.
    Looks like there is another reason as your script fails. Cant say more without details.
    Notice that PDF and EPS is a standalone class (alike Image is) ==> so one does not include another.

    Hello,
    I would like to Extract image from the Catalog via JAVA API, Can anybody help on that? I also tried to extract the Features field form the Catalog but results in the error "Features field not found" Any ideas what could have wrong?
    Many thanks,

    Hello,
    Can anybody tell me where i can find the latest JAVAAPI reference guide? I found the one for MDM 5.5 SP 1 but that also refers to the last parameter of the CatalogCache.Init as int and not string.
    I looked up in service.sap.com/instguides -> SAP Netweaver -> Release 4 -> Installation and there only following 3 files are there for MDM 5.5 SP2
    MDM 5.5 SP02 - Configuration Guide  SAP MDM
    MDM 5.5 SP02 - Installation Guide   SAP MDM

  • Duplicates in the Catalog

    Hi, I recently uploaded my pictures into Lightroom from 1 location on my hard drive but all the pictures have come with duplicates. There are no duplicates on the hard drive. In the catalog both the pictures show the same name and if I click on Show in Explorer, both files point out to the same location where the picture is saved. I have more than 100 images in the catalog. Is there any way through which I could remove all the duplicates rather than deleting each duplicate image manually.
    Regards
    Akhil

    If it just happened as a result of one import action and it was the last time, you can go to most recent import in the catalog tab, select all and remove. As far as why it happened, not having "ignore dupes" checked on import would be the first thing to suspect, but you're saying in one import action it created more than one copy of each photo? That would be some sort of error. Are you also sure they aren't raws+jpegs? In any case, with only 100 in the catalog, doing it by hand wouldn't be hard, but you want to figure out how to avoid it from now on.

  • How do you permanently delete a file image in the catalogue

    how do you permanently delete a file image in the ?

    Highlight the image, press the delete key, in the dialog that appears click the button that says, "Delete from disk."
    If you want to delete multiple images you can go through your images and when one is highlighted that you want to delete press the X key. That will mark the image for deletion. After you have gone through the images on Windows you can press Ctrl/backspace to display the same dialogue I described above. And you can choose to remove the marked images from the catalog or to delete them from your disk.

  • LR4.3 w/ NIK filters - Image previews keep reloading Constantly until Catalog Optimization

    Just bought the NIK filters on Googles big sale - problem is everytime I add a NIK filter - so far only tried Color Efex Pro - via the External Editor in LR4.3, Save, and then go back into LR4.3 the Image Preview keeps reloading while I try to make further adjustments on the image. Impossible to work with as when I use Adjust brush the image disappears for a second as I move the brush around to add my mask.
    Interestingly, if I Exit LR4 and relaunch the catalog that same photo with the NIK filter has no problem anymore. The catalog is set to "optimize" everytime I close LR. So why when NIK filters are added can the catalog not work well with them until the optimization process?  Do I have a setting wrong in preferences that effects this?
    I called NIK (Google) twice. They are useless. A so-called LR NIK expert named "Jessica" is not the expert she presents. She only knows how to have you re-install the software LOL. Then transfers you to oblivion of Google MUSAK. I don't think that NIK LR experts exist there or they are Product Managers who are not on support. Hoping some LR guru might know what is happening with my previews when those filters are applied.
    Win 7 64 bit environment  16 GB RAM (but same thing happens on my Mac Laptop)

    Thanks Rob. I opened a different LR4 catalog on the PC that only has two photos in it and the problem didnotoccur. So it does seem to be an issue with catalogs that have a lot of raw Canon 5D Mark III images. The image "flickering/reloading" also occurs on the Mac Laptop running a different catalog but that one also has a ton of canon raw images. The PC catalog (the one with the problem) also resides on an EHD so I'm not sure if that is a factor, or not - the other one with only 2 photos total  is on my hard drive.
    I guess I could try to move the entire catalog to my HD (and raw images) and test again. If still a problem then it is either the size of the catalog or some setting in that catalog. Does NIK SW have a max size threshold recommended? I realize it converts the raw to an RGB format when it opens the image - the last image started as 25MB raw and ended up at 160MB after I added a few of your filters stacked and then did some touch ups in LR. Do your recommend any compression? I can set that as a preference for Color Efex in the External Editor settings?

  • My images are still in the catalog, but the Folder name has disappeared. I need to get the folder back into my structure with the images in place

    Help: I have a very well defined folder structure. Folder are located in a Master location and organized by State. Inside of these are my master RAW file folders organized by location. For example: West Virginia > BIRI_RAW_2012, BLFA_RAW_2013, NERI_RAW_2013, etc. After I set up the masterful following a shoot, I go to LR and import the images. At one time I inadvertently imported the NERI_RAW_2013 masterful set as a subset of something else and it was not appearing in my LR Module in the organization I prefer. So I went to my master folders on my drive and moved the NERI file into the West Virginia state folder. When I went back to LR, as expected the NERI folder was grey with a question mark. So I right clicked to find the files and relink, and it did not work. The folder name disappeared. The RAW files are still in the catalog and show up in a missing photos search. I can't reimport because they are already there. I just need to restore my folder structure and get the images back to the right spot.

    So I right clicked to find the files and relink, and it did not work. The folder name disappeared.
    It didn't disappear, it moved (because you told Lightroom to move it). It moved from the incorrect folder location, to the new folder location. Please look in the new folder, in whatever location it is in, not in the old folder and the old location, and you will find the photos.

  • Why did the # of images in my catalog double when I 'Moved' them in LR from one ext. drive to a 2nd?

    Hi,
    I'm running LR 3.4 64bit on a PC. My external drive starting generating error messages so I went out a purchased a 2nd external drive (3TB Seagate)  to migrate my image Catalog over.  Within LR's Import dialog screen I selected the Source drive (old; error-generating drive) and the Destination as my new drive. I ensured that Move was selected (vs. Copy or New).
    I had on the order of 50k images. This morning I checked my catalog and the files appear to have moved over just fine. However, now the image count is >100k!
    Any ideas on 1) what I did wrong, 2) what steps I can take to 'de-duplicate' the images in my catalog without manually going through?
    Thanks in advance!
    Machaba

    I notice it that users often use the Import feature in LR incorrectly. That creates a lot of problems.
    The Import feature is for images that are NOT yet in LR. Only when - for some reasons - you want the same images twice in LR you use the Import and un-check the "Do not import suspected duplicates".
    In your case you must have un-checked the "Do not import suspected duplicates" -box in the Import dialog.
    As the previous poster already noted the best way to move whole folders or even drives of images is to move them in your OS.
    In LR you then get a question mark besides the folder where the photos previously were.
    Just right-click the folder with the question mark and point LR to the new location - that's all.
    But you imported and now all images show twice.
    If your images are all on the new HD (check if they are all there!), right-click the top-most image folder on your "old" HD and select "Remove". This will remove the folder from LR but will not delete your images. LR should then show only 1 set of images on your new HD.

  • My PSE 5.0 Organizer catalog now won't display any new image from the Editor

    Every attempt to Save As from the Editor gets the message, "There was a problem acessing the Organizer catalog.  It may be in use by another process, or a disc error occurred."
    Then when I attempt to get the same image using the FIle menu and Get Photos ...From Files and Folders,  even though the newly saved file is correcly in there as shown by the thumbnail, I get this message:
    The ODBC data source reported the following error: "[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Acess Driver] Cannot open database 'I'.  It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt."
    I have repeatedly shut down the programs and the whole computer, and although this problem occasionally occurred in the past, now that's all I get.
    How can I get my Catalog to show these images?

    Thanks for your suggestion - Recover did it!  (That may have seemed obvious to you, but not being much of a computer expert, I didn't know enough to even ask the right question.)  I'm so glad to have my Organizer back!

  • Sharing a lightroom catalog - Does housing the catalog and images on an external hard drive work?

    I will be managing a small portion of a client's overall image workflow by updating their web prescence on a regular basis with new work and retagging/uploading old work. I believe this requires the catalog and the image library  to be housed on an external hard drive that can travel between the two of us. We are both working on PC's with LR 5.3.
    The workflow would look something like this:
    Client downloads new images onto external hard drive and imports into LR
    "ClientCatalog" is created
    Flags Picks and Creates a Collection from those Picks
    Hard drive is handed off to me where I open "ClientCatalog"
    Make suggested edits to images
    add detailed tags and metadata
    upload to various social media sites and websites
    return hard drive to client
    Is there potential problem with this workflow? My assumption is that if everything is housed on the external hard drive then there are no worries about the catalog containing all the latest updates. Can anyone fill me in on potential problems I might have overlooked? Are there any "safety protocols" you would add in to this workflow (besides mirroring everythign on another hard drive) that you would suggest?

    Photwell wrote:
    I ran into this problem with my own catalog a few weeks ago. I plugged my external hard drive into a different USB and everything was gone.
    Not gone, just mis-addressed. It can be re-addressed as necessary. I believe it is enough on MacOs, to name the drive. On Windows, the details vary by OS version (Google for instructions) but this is for Win7:
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/ht/change-drive-letters-windows-7.htm
    and it is a good idea to assign a drive letter quite a bit later in the alphabet, to restrict the chance of ever finding that letter already taken. For example, it could be X: for external drive, or P: for plug-in drive, or whatever makes sense to you...
    After doing this, on re-starting Lightroom and opening the Catalog, the images will at first go offline (previously used location not found). To get them back online, it will be necessary to re-browse the parent folder for all your image folders, to reflect its new location under the new drive reference. That done, the Catalog location info for all the images and subfolders located under that parent folder, will be updated automatically. If this parent is not currently showing in the LR Folders list, you can right-click and choose "Show Parent". LR's display then reorganises to reflect this actual hierarchy.

  • If I extract my previews to recover lost images, will they still show up in the catalog?  Can I extract just certain files?

    if I extract my previews from lightroom, will they still show up in the catalog? I am trying to recover certain images. Can I just extract specific folders?

    I also had ringtones from the 1001 Ringtones app that were lost after the iOS5 conversion.
    I tried the the fix to uncheck the ringtones, sync and then re-check and sync, but that didn't work for me.
    What did work was that I re-downloaded the file from the original e-mail where the app sent it to me, then I hit "add file to library", found the file and then my old ringtones re-appeared.  However, they had a circle with an exclamation point next to them, and when I clicked on it, it said itunes could no longer file the location of the file.  So, I followed the screen steps to tell it where they were originally saved, and then they synced just fine.
    I hope this makes sense, good luck.

  • Delete images : send to a Bin/Trash in the catalog?

    The "delete" key has now a different behavior in Lightroom, whether one works :
    - in a collection (Del removes the photo from the collection & Alt+Del suppresses from the catalog),
    - in a dynamic collection (Del does logically nothing and Alt+Del still suppresses from the catalog),
    - in a folder or "All photographs" view (Del gives the choice between suppressing from catalog and sending files to system recycle bin, Alt+Del still removes without sending to bin or asking).
    This is a bit confusing, especially in the Develop module where it is not trivial to see if you work on a collection or a folder.
    Does "delete" mean changing some image classification (removing from collection) or changing the contents of the catalog and/or the file system (removing from catalog or sending to trash), with the optional choice to break the sync between catalog and file system (removing from catalog without sending to bin)?
    Suggestion :
    - why not use the Del key to send the images in a Catalog Bin (or Trash or whatever you want), which would make them disappear from all catalog views and collections and move them to this bin,
    - and remap the "remove from collection" command to something else like Shift-X (close enough to the X="set as rejected" command), because removing from a collection doesn't really delete anything (the photo is still in the catalog or other collections, it's only an organizational change).
    The bin could be accessed by another item in the "Catalog" panel, where it would be at least possible to rescue files ie to send them back where they belonged in the catalog.
    A special command "empty trash" would really send files to the system bin, with a confirm dialog.
    Optionally, it could still be possible to remove photos from the catalog without sending the files to the system bin (but for me, I just don't like breaking sync between file system and catalog).
    This behaviour would then be constant across Lightroom.
    NB this suggestion has been elaborated collectively - if you read french, see http://www.chassimages.com/forum/index.php/topic,40791.msg665095.html#msg665095 and the surrounding discussion for more details.
