Filtering mail without a from address

How can I set a rule to delete mail without a from address?
12 inch powerbook g-4 dvi   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I created a "Ghost" spam rule in Mail.
At the Mail.app menu bar, go to Mail > Preferences > Rules.
Select Add Rule and give the rule a name. I named my rule "Ghost" Spam.
If any of the following conditions are met:
Select From and Does not contain from the pop-up menus and enter @ in the space provided.
Under Perform the following actions:
Select Delete Message from the pop-up menu.
When finished, select OK to save the Rule.

  • Mail label printing from Address Book

I am trying to print labels for Christmas cards using the label printing feature in Address Book (Tiger version). The cards in my group include First and Last Names as well as the Spouse Name. Sometimes the label prints with the person name and the spouse in the form: John Doe and Jane. Other times the spouse is left off. I would like consistent behavior. At this point it truly seems random. I've tried deleting cards, rebooting and reentering new cards without effect. Can anyone help?
Does anyone know if the problem is resolved in Leopard? If so, I could convert my MacBook and print from it. I can't convert the MacPro yet because some 3rd party software that I rely on is not yet compatible with Leopard.

I encountered the same issue last year around Christmas time. This is what I learned about how Address Book works when printing labels:
If you have a spouse or child listed on contact card it will print them all on the mailing label IF the first name of each person is unique to your entire address book. For example, if the contact is John Brown and the spouse is listed as Susan Brown and the child is listed as Chester Brown, the expectation is that the label would print as:
    John, Susan and Chester Brown
This assumes that there are no other contacts in your address book with the first name of Susan or Chester. However, if, for example, you have another person in your contact list named Susan (the last name could be anything), Address Book will print:
    John and Chester Brown
This is because Address Book looks at all the first names in your contact list and if it sees a first name that is also listed in one of the spouse or child fields then it looks to see if the the other contact shares the same address as the contact you are trying to print. If the address is the same, then it prints properly on the label. If not, then it doesn't print on the label. So if you have two Susans - Susan Anderson and Susan Brown - Address book looks at the address on each card and determines that Susan Brown has the same address as the contact you are trying to print (John Brown) and therefore prints her name on the label.
So, to make a long story short, if you want consistent and predictable results when printing your labels you should assign a unique card to each person that you want to appear on the label and make sure that the individual cards have the same address listed on each. So, in the above example, there would be a card for John Brown, a card for Susan Brown, and a card for Chester Brown. On John Brown's card, Susan Brown would be listed as spouse and Chester Brown would be listed as child. Print John Brown's card and you should get:
    John, Susan and Chester Brown
Although this makes logical sense, it's not incredibly intuitive and not very well documented by Apple. I was hoping they would enhance Address Book in Leopard since this seems like a feature that a lot of people would use around this time of year. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case this time around.
The next issue that you will probably encounter is what I'm dealing with now: I want to send Christmas cards to the home address of some people on my list and to the business address of others. When printing labels, you can choose to print home addresses, business addresses, all addresses (prints two labels, one for home and one for business) and Distribution List. You can choose your preferred/default mailing address for each contact in your group in the Edit Distribution List menu item. I did this and picked the default address that I wanted for each person on my list. The proper address for each contact should print perfectly when I print labels using the "Distribution List" option. Indeed, all my contacts print to the proper address BUT spouse and child names don't print on any of the cards - they only print when you choose All, Home, or Business!
    Good luck!

  • Mail - add recipient from address book?

I may be missing something obvious, but how do I add a recipient in Mail under Lion?
If I start typing a name or address it will autocomplete, but I cannot find the button that will take me into address book to look through my contacts.
    Is it just me?
    TIA.

I could not, however, drag the Address Button from the main mail screen to the composition screen as suggested by IanB, whether in FSM or not, whether whilst customising or not. When customising it simply went up in a puff of smoke, and when not customing, it simply would not move.
That should work, provided you are trying to customize the toolbar in the message composer and not the message viewer.
You have to move the tool you want to add to that little rectangle next to the tools already in the toolbar.
Leroy's right though.  Doesn't work in full-screen mode.

  • Multiple POP/SMTP Accounts Bug - Mail uses wrong 'from' address

I've be scratching my head over this but can't see anything else wrong so I figure it must be a bug with Mail 4.2:
I have multiple POP3/SMTP accounts configured, lets say:
[email protected], to receive on pop.blah1.com and send on smtp.blah1.com
[email protected], to receive on pop.blah2.com and send on smtp.blah2.com
If I create emails sourced from [email protected], they are sent just fine.
However if I try to email from [email protected], I get a pop-up telling me that smtp.blah2.com is offline and I need to select another SMTP server.
I checked the server settings a hundred times over and also resorted to telnetting to port 25 of blah2.com to ensure it was full working (yes it was!).
[Even Connection Doctor thinks the servers are all good]
So next I try telling emails sourced from [email protected] to send via smtp.blah1.com - Eureka, it works!
But this is a little odd - so I check the received email headers and compare these with the 'Sent' header.
It appears that mail thinks its sending the email from [email protected] but the email actually ends up being sourced from [email protected]!
So I can only presume that Mail is marking the smtp.blah2.com server as down because it is trying to use the wrong source address when sending a message and therefore being refused by the SMTP relay.
    Has anyone else seen this?

    Thanks chaps,
The other accounts are direct POP3/SMTP to my hosted servers - they are not passing through GMail and so it couldn't cause the issue.
I have, however, found the problem inadvertently while trying to run a comparison with Thunderbird - the good news is, its not Mail as such, though it does raise a couple of other questions...
Basically, whichever SMTP server is running on my hosted servers, it does not allow a message with no text in the body, while Google's SMTP implementation clearly does.
As my test messages only had a subject line, they were failing on my servers but working OK with GMail.
    The questions therefore are:
    1. Shouldn't Mail pad an empty message to ensure it goes (MS Outlook works fine with empty messages but interestingly Thunderbird also doesn't)
    2. Even assuming its OK to use GMail's SMTP as a relay, shouldn't Mail use the correct source address rather than making it look like the emails came from my GMail account?
    - I'm not sure if this is 'allowed' with modern SMTP from a security perspective but I think that some services support it.
    Thanks for all your input!

  • Mac Mail Uses wrong "from:" Address .... ouch!

I have multiple e-mail accounts set up on Mac mail.  Each email account has it's own SMTP server defined.  The "use only this SMTP server" is checked on all the accounts.
Today I sent an email from one account ... let's call it [email protected]
The outbound server was set properly.
The mail was sent, and appears on the outbox for [email protected]  Just like normal.
I got a reply back from the person I sent the e-mail to, and the reply shows that my e-mail originated from a DIFFERENT account.  Let's call it [email protected]
The e-mail I sent originally does NOT show up in the Sent e-mail box for [email protected]  It shows up in the Sent e-mail box for [email protected] where it should.
So ... it looks like  Apple Mail sent an e-mail from the wrong account, using the wrong SMTP server.  The mail program obviously doesn't konw what SMTP account to send mail from.
    Wow.
    I'm shocked.
    This is beyond lame.

Follow up to my own question.  I do see others have had this problem:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2253932?tstart=0
It makes no sense whatsoever for Apple Mail to "fall back" to an SMTP server that is not assigned to a particular account.  It's far better for the SMTP connection to fail and NOT send the e-mail from the wrong account, instead of confusing all the people I send e-mails to.
This SMTP fallback "feature" ***** and should be gotten rid of.

  • Cannot Setup Multiple From Addresses in Workflow Properties in SOA 11.1.1.7

    Hello All,
I have a requirement where I would need multiple From Addresses set in Workflow Properties. We have some Processes where notifications with 1 mail ID as From Address has to be sent and some other Processes where another MailID as From Address has to be sent.
I tried configuring Workflow Properties in EM Console by giving both the From Addresses as comma separated values. But all the Processes pick only the first From Mail Address given.I provided the From Address even in the Notification Activity in my process as an expression, but I still see the first from Address set in the Workflow properties in EM Console.
For SOA Suite Versions before 11.1.1.3 it was possible for us to update Workflow-Notification-config.xml file to have all these values. This is not possible in 11.1.1.7.
If somebody has already encountered this and fixed it please let me know.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi!,
when that happend to me, I used to do the next steps:
In EM, go to FARM_SOA...>SOA>SOA-INFRA>Default, right clic on your proyect and uninstall it
Log in into your BPM workspace as your administrator> Administration, and erase all roles for that project and save.
Install your project from jdeveloper again.
Log in into your BPM workspace as your administrator> Administration, clic on your project.ProcesOwner Role, and add your user on the members below section
After adding thee user, clic SAVE
Do the same for all the roles of your project
This worked for me, remember to clic the save button after adding a member for the role
    hope it helps!,

  • Remove Default From Address from Verizon Webmail?

My Verizon Webmail account (and sub-accounts) have been receiving emails from unauthorized Senders (@verizon.net), and it appears that this address is appearing below my address within the drop-down in Verizon Webmail > Mail Setup > Generic E-mail Setup > Default From Address:
Where did this bogus address come from, and how do I get rid of it??
    Thanks!

If it starts with "vze" or "res" then that is your Verizon user id. There is no way to remove this from your account.
If it isn't a user id, check to see if it's an alias. Look in the Email Settings portion of your My Account page. If it's an alias, you should be able to delete it from there.
If it isn't a user id and it isn't an alias, contact tech support. Anything that is on your account that shouldn't be needs to be investigated by Verizon.
    ***Regardless of what it is:***
Change your password and secret answer to something complex and hard to guess, and run a virus scan on every computer you access the account from. If someone other than you is sending mail from an address on your account, you need to re-secure it ASAP.

  • Printing Mailing Labels from Address Book

Stupid question, but one that is driving me crazy.
How do you print a sheet of mailing labels from Address Book but when the entire sheet of labels is the SAME label?
I can print labels successfully in address book, can select the label type and number, etc.
However, when I select a single contact, I can't find a way to print up an entire sheet of labels (e.g. 14) of all the same contact - it only prints one label of the single contact.
Please help! I know it must be a simple fix but can't find it anywhere to select as an option.

OK, weird that this morning (one day after you posted this question) I had the same question. I just want to print some return address labels for my own company. While I haven't been able to find a software based way to do it, I did think up a workable (if a bit ridiculous) hack. Copy the address you want to fill the sheet of labels with however many times there are labels on the sheet and select those however many copies and click print! I created 30 copies of my own company's address in Address Book, selected them, and printed a sheet of labels without problem. A bit dumb, but it works!
    Hope that helps.

  • Bug in decoding of From-addresses in Mail.app

    Dear all,
since quite some time there is a bug in Mail.app, which leads to problems in replying to certain mails. The bug is similar (or the same) as in thunderbird 2 (see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=254519), which was fixed in Thunderbird 3.
If a "From:" line encoded with RFC 2047 contains characters which should, per RFC (2)822, be quoted (because it contains commas (",") or similar) Mail.app does not decode it properly but treats (in the case of a comma ",") this as two different addresses. A reply to such a message usually results in a bounce or error (since the first part is usually not a valid address).
An example for such a "From:" line is:
    From: =?iso-8859-1?Q?M=FCller=2C_Henry?= <[email protected]>
This is correctly encoded and thunderbird 3 and (I hate to say this) outlook treats this correct.
Maybe someone from apple reads this and there is a chance to get this fixed soon, since it is rather annoying and causes a lot of user questions to our helpdesk. Or is there another easy fix (without changing the "From:" address.
    Best regards,
    Damian

Apple doesn't work here (except to moderate posts for terms of use). We're all just users like you.

I am not able to mail the photos from iPhoto.  Its always saying that the email address it's not recognized.  Another situation is that when I try to add my me account in the preferences account, doesn't recognize my @me password. Tks for any help! :-)

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

  • Stop Mail.app from creating bogus redundant "names" from addresses?

Some people include a name with their email, and some are content with just plain addresses. I like to see both the name and address when both are there, however, when it is just a plain address, it is  pointless for Mail to duplcate the address as if it was a name.
For example, if I am sending to a guy at adddress [email protected], and either I have him in my address book, or perhaps have received mail from him before that included a name, Mail will helpfully fill it in in the address line, e.g. it might appear in an address oval as "Steve Foo <[email protected]>"
    This is very fine.
But for many addresses, there is no extra name information to be had. These addresses should be treated as plain email addresses -- the address is the only important part; the name can provide handy extra info, but serves no purpose at all if it does not provide extra info.
In many cases, however, it seems that Mail.app will copy the full email address and set it as the name, which is ugly and redundant. That is, if I start an email to [email protected], and mail has no other info about this address, it will appear in oval as "[email protected] <[email protected]>".
This seems redundant, cluttered, wasteful, and stupid. Is there a way to make it stop doing that?
(As far as I know, it did not used to work this way on my old Mac, which was a PPC with 10.5. My spiffy new Mountain Lion helpfully fills in this bogus info, but perhaps 10.6's and 10.7's Mail did this silly stuff also.)
    Thanks for any hints,
    Steve

Sorry to disappoint you, SayWhat0, but unfortunately this is not possible. Apple did not include such a setting and this solution is what I'd call a workaround really. It solves the problem, but as you've mentioned not without drawbacks. I believe there is no other way to resolve this at the moment.
I have already reported the issue via this link http://www.apple.com/feedback/mail.html
All I could suggest is to do the same and hope Apple will introduce a setting for this.
