Filters greyed out in large PSB file

Hi there
Can anyone point me in the direction of answer to this question....
I'm running CS3 on an Intel Mac 2x2.66 GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon 5GB ram
And I've got a 310cm x 61cm 2.2 gig file. (it's for a stage backdrop)
I'm in a PSB file RGB, 8 bit and i can't get to any filter effects.
Any ideas?

Many filters have limits on the size of image they can process.
But other filters will work with any size image.
And telling us the physical dimensions of the document don't tell us anything about the pixel size or memory footprint. (file size and document size are very different things)

How can I save large PSB files so that LR 5 recognizes them?

I have saved large PSB files but LR doesn't recognize them. They are greyed out.

LR does not support layers so if You save a Layered Tiff or PSD that LR can open I believe all you would wind up with is a composite layer for the file content. Since Lr can not use layers and image file formats use compression I get the impression that a single layer document would need to a have very large amount of pixels to generate a compressed file that is over 2GB in size. I don't think I would even want to use Photoshop on a image that contains that many pixels. I don't use Lr so PSB is not a problem for me. Still Photoshop is a Pixel Editor however I don't think it would be very useful manipulating a billion pixels or more. I also don't know why someone would want to use LR on a layered file I don't believe Lr can save a layered file.
I have no desire to even download Lr for I I'm not very organized and can't type. So I have no need for Lr library and databases. Also I don't want two UI over Adobe RAW Conversion engine. One Adobe UI is a better option to me.
Tiff format files I beleive has a 4GB size limit PSB format files does not have that limit. Using your logic why offer Tiff they can not save large documents.
PSD was around before we had the need of huge image file. Many PSD exist they should not be rendered useless for lack of support.

Illustrations greyed-out when printing PDF file from Adobe Reader

From within PageMaker 7 I've made a 52-page PDF document in Distiller (selected job option is for Print) and uploaded it to my website. It contains many greyscale illustrations (TIFs and JPGs first imported into PageMaker), and text. I am able to view the PDF file over the net, and can print the illustrations and text on each page with no problem. I am using an old HP laser printer (LaserJet 5L). Other users are able to view the same PDF document on the net, and they can see all the illustrations and text on every page. However, some users who have tested it are reporting that when they try to print out the pages on their own printers, most of the illustrations are greyed-out between pages 3 and 51. The text is printing correctly on their printers. The images on the front and back cover are printing, and so is an 11-page comic strip (made up entirely of 11 TIFs, with no additional text). Can anyone work out why all the other illustrations throughout the document are printing greyed-out on their printers?

I am replying to my own question.
After posting here, I received feedback from a viewer that the PDF file is downloading and printing out pages with no greying-out of the illustrations. It looks to me as though the problems are arising from other viewers' slow internet connections and/or hardware RAM for printing, especially if trying to print all pages at once, rather than Saving As to hard drive, then printing.

Re-installation of PS CC 64 bit 2014: filters greyed out???

My PC (Win 7) computer had to be reformatted. I am reinstalling software. I downloaded and reinstalled Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 (64bit). When I open it and open an image, most dropdown items under menu items are greyed out. This includes almost all filters (Blur, Noise, etc. plus my NIK and Topaz filters--installed under Plugins folder). How do I fix that?

Da...Simple answer...PS CC opened my layered photo, but didn't automatically select a layer. When I selected a layer, the menu items became active. Now I just have to figure out why my NIK filters freeze up PS CC whenever I click on them! That's probably a simple thing, like a reinstallation registration number, which I can't find!

Jpgs are greyed out in process multiple files.

I have a new iMac, with Elements 11, all jpgs are greyed out when I try to process multiple files.

Are these photos in iphoto? You can't access the iphoto library directly. Writing into that library from outside iphoto is the fastest way to corrupt it and lose the photos. Export the photos from iphoto and work on the exports. If that's not it, where are these jpegs located?

Stationery Pad option greyed out for iWork 08 files

When you do a "Get Info" on files in Mac OS, you're supposed to be able to designate any given file as "stationery pad" - so when it opens, it automatically creates a copy, and your modifications go on that copy, not the original. This checkbox is greyed out on all my iWork 08 files. Yet it's available on, say, MS Office files. What's with that? I've checked out all the prefs I can think of for iWork 08, repaired permissions, etc. Yet no fix. Is this a defect of iWork 08? I want this feature!

You can't do it in iwork because a pages file isn't a file; it's really a folder. You do it in iwork by saving your pages document as a template instead.

Photoshop filters greyed out in CMYK mode

Why filters in Photoshop CC work only in RGB mode/8-bit. In CMYK they are greyed out?
there is a trick which is to apply filters to individual channels, but why is it has to be that painful?
im working on Windows 7 64-bit, Adobe CC.

Not all filters and functions work in all colour modes and bit depths, that is just the way things work. You can always convert from CMYK to RGB, apply your filters and then convert back to CMYK. But of course that is not an optimal way to go in regards to maintaining as much detail information as possible in your images. It's always best to stick with RGB for as long as possible and do the conversion just before print.

Why are Distort filters greyed out in Photoshop CC?

Trying to make a text spiral along a path using the Twirl filter in a Photoshop CC trial. All the distort filters are greyed out. Is this a feature not offered in the trial, or am I doing something else wrong?

PS CS6 Filters greyed out for Timeline clips - what's wrong?

I've just watched an Adobe TV video by Julianne Kost about video features in PS CS6.
At one point she converts a video clip into a Smart Object in order to apply a PS filter, but when I do this, the entire Filters menu is greyed out.
The mp4 clip plays normally in the Timeline otherwise.
Is there something I have to do to make this work?

Burn to Disc greyed out in "All My Files"

When I right click on a file in finder in "All My Files" Burn to Disc is greyed out. When I locate the same file in it folder and not in "All My Files" the Burn to Disc is there. Surely this cant be right and isnt very user friendly !

CD-RWs tend to have a lot of problems when used for audio CDs. I suggest you try the burn again using a CD-R.

PS filters greyed out when sending from lr

When I send an LR photo for editing in PS CC, some of the filters are greyed out: artistic, brush strokes, distort, pixelate, sketch, and texture. but when I open the photo directly in PS, they are there. What's going on?

Are any of these from a plug-in or via Adobe Marketplace? I just opened an unedited DNG via Lightroom 5.3. My PS CC install is pretty clean, only plug-ins are the OnOne Suite, ver 8. Anyway...... I am missing almost every filter you have listed above. The ones I do have, Distort & Pixelate, both seem to be fine. That is what makes me wonder if there is something else in the mix here.....? Can you provide a bit more information regarding any plug-ins you may be using in either PS or LR as well as any 3rd party filters you may have added (or carried over from conversion)? Make PSB files compatible with Lightroom

Just found out they're not. Thats a big problem, if i want to stitch a panorama shot with a 21mp camera, chances of the layered working file is going to end up over 2GB are pretty good. Is there a preference setting i'm missing that allows PSBs to be cataloged?

I'm seeing a lot of people leave LR to combine panos, HDR images and to perform image stacking. If would be nice to return to LR for the rest of the workflow when these files require large PSB files.
The only thing better then PSB support would be the ability to combine pano, HDR and image stacking without leaving LR! Various 3rd party apps provide a glimpse as to how that might work natively in LR in the future. I could see another module proving this capability more elegantly and with non-descturctive, parametric functionality. Just tweak the development of any of the pano/HDR/image staking frames and the "Combine" module (let's call it) re-renders the final composite. Cheers to that possibility.

Documents greyed out in Java app

I have reinstalled Yosemite and Java 8. Then I have installed CafeTran, a Java app. I have installed Dropbox and waited until all my files and folders were synced. I've set all permissions to the Dropbox folder where I save my CafeTran files to Read & Write. I've lowered my rights to Standard, rebooted, changed back to Admin, rebooted.
The problem that I'm dealing with, is that I can select folders with documents (e.g. DOCX) via the Project Location... button, but no individual documents via the Documents... button: they are all greyed out. Furthermore: the File Chooser dialogue box shows .DS_Store files that I don't see in any other File dialogue box.
When I open the CafeTran folders in my Dropbox via the Finder, I can see that no Word 2011 icon is visible for them. However, when I double click on a DOCX file, Word is launched. I've also Assigned DOCX to Word a couple of times. To make it even more complex: the problem doesn't exist on my MacBook Pro – same OS X and Java version.
My question: How can I make CafeTran open DOCX files (apart from the work around of loading a whole folder with several DOCX files)?

InDesign CS6 and OpenGL 1.5 / image frames grey out in INDML

Hi everyone,
I work for a non-profit and I just upgraded to InDesign CS6 on my (signifcantly more robust) machine. Now thier (significantly wimpier) machine needs to be upgraded too as we send INDD files back and forth on a monthly basis, and both sides do edits to the file. The INDML file I export out of CS6 is greying out many of the linked photos (but not all) when they read the INDML file in with CS4.
Two things:
1) Upgrading the slower machine to CS6 is the place, but the hitch is that computer has a graphics card that is only OPENGL 1.5 capabale (GMA X3100). The CS6 specs state you need a card that supports OPENGL 2.0. We can't afford to replace the computer, so: I wouldn't dream of running photoshop CS6 on this old machine, but could InDesign CS6 function on OPENGL 1.5?
2) Alternatively, why are only some of the pictures greying out in the INDML file? Can I fix this CS6 > CS4 issue without upgrading to CS6?

The system requirements for stand-alone ID don't mention OpenGL at all. You might want to download a trial and see how it runs.
.idml does not include any link previews (that's one of the main reasons the file is so compact). Images that are showing up on the other end must be accessible so that ID can regenerate the previews.

Saving a large psb as a jpeg/bmp

I have a large psb file which is an image of 39k by 27k pixels at 48 bpp. The image size is about 5.7 GB. PS CS6 trial only gives me the option to save it as a TIFF or Photoshop RAW only. I would like to use this large image as a master copy from which I can sample lesser quality images for printing. How can I save such images as a JPG or BMP file, that is downsample it and place the result in a smaller jpg or bmp file?
I read some other similar discussions and they all concern problems with the plugins folder. I have not inserted any plugins from previous CS versions. The only plugins that I have in there are authorized CS6 plugins for the scanner fix from Adobe.
Is it even possible to downsample from such a large image?

Yes, you could cretainly downsample it.
And remember that most file formats can't go beyond 30-32k pixels in either dimension, or 2 GB file size.
