Filters, scripts, brushes, etc... on Photoshop CS5 ?

Hello everybody,
At first, sorry for my poor english, so I'll tryied to correctly set out my question. I work on various version of Photoshop since few years and I'm regular with some "organization" inside folders as "plugins", "presets", "scripts", "brushes", "layout effects", etc... folders.
I've just installed CS5 64 bits on my Windows 7 64 bits system and.... I don't know where place all of these because I don't any specific folders like in CS3 for example... ... Hmmm. of course, I've totally uninstalled CS3 and something tell me that I must reinstall all my plugins (for information, Corel Photopaint X4 detect automaticly all of these plugins )
I'm affraid to seems ridiculous but if someone can explain to me how to install all my stuff, that would be really fine. But I'm sure that the solution is very simple.
Thank's a lot for all your help
Franck
EDIT:
Ok ! I'm really stupid !...I've just looking at the right installation folder and... everything is here >>>  in "Program Files" instead "Program Files (x86)".
I'm really sorry, just a good sleep and I'm sure that my brain will work better... sorry

That's why it is useful to select another folder for the plug-ins and point to it in the preferences (under preferences>plug-ins>additional plug-in folder)
And NEVER point that folder to the default plug-ins folder of and earlier version of Photoshop.
That said, some plug-ins might need to be reinstalled, if they are registered from a given version of Ps.
Also, saving the presets to the root of another disk makes their re-discovery easier.
There are been several features requests for a "migration" tool...
Et ne vous inquiètez pas pour votre anglais, il est très compréhensible

  • Buggy Brush Behavior in Photoshop CS5 / Lion

I have a problem that has suddenly appeared in Photoshop CS5 (current version 12.0.4). Using it on a recent MacBook Pro.
I am running this under Lion, and have been doing so ever since I installed the new system (about a week or two after Lion was released).  Until yesterday, no problems at all.
The problem is with the brush tool.
    I open a new document.
Click on Brush Tool icon (or hit "B" key).
Move my cursor to the document.  The cursor DOES NOT show the outline of the current brush as it should.  Instead, it shows the Move arrow.
    I click on the Trackpad.
The brush paints according to the brush style selected. That, at least, is as it should be (despite the appearance of the wrong cursor)
But I then click on the Brush tool again.... and, this is the weird part. The brush "paints" another dot - kind of next to where the icon is in the toolbox.
Then, WHEREVER I click, I get another brush dot in the document.  Even if I click any of the other tools in the toolbox, each click gives me another dot from the brush.
This makes using CS5 virtually impossible.  CS3 works as it should.
    Any ideas on fixing this.
    Thanks.
    D. Rehr

I also have experienced very erratic and odd behaviour with the brushes in Photoshop CS5.1 (version 12.1) under Lion 10.7.2.
For example, sometimes I am clicking in the toolbox (on the left of the canvas) and the brush is making strokes on the canvas! Unbelievable...
Other odd behaviors include when I am changing the size of the brush with the bracket keys. Sometimes the circle disappears completely, only to come back once I bump up to another size (actually, it is usually a range of sizes that don't work, but it works normally above or below that range. Haven't pinned down the range though.)
Another thing that happens is when I am changing the size of the brush with the bracket keys, the circle around the brush area jumps up to the left, then back to where I had placed it, again, only for a certain range of sizes. The circle itself also disappears at times.
Sometimes ditching the Photoshop preference file appears to work for me, but the problem just comes back again (and I hate resetting all of my preferences for no reason!).
I have tried restarting Photoshop, restarting my Mac, zapping PRAM, and resetting the SMC, all to no avail!
    Please help (Apple, Adobe)!!!
Anybody have any other ideas, fixes?

  • Brush lock / freeze - Photoshop CS5

Did some searching on these forums and google but couldn't find a solution.
When painting in Photoshop CS5  ( mac ) the brush tool will often "lock" and turn to the spinning dial icon ( the grey segmented one, not the beach ball ) and remain stuck in this.
I've tried this on different systems using both the new Cintiq 21UX, the old Cintiq 21UX, the Cintiq WX, and a Wacom Intuos 4 XL, on Mac pros and Macbook Pros. Drivers are updated to the most current in all cases.
This only happens when using the stylus. The only way to get out of this without force quitting Photoshop is to use the mouse and click randomly outside the Photoshop interface. This includes the desktop and menu bar. When Photoshop finally snaps out of its funk, the Brush tool applies every click and movement in the canvas before the "unlock" of the Brush tool. Simply doing and undo will fix this.
This happens frequently and is pretty annoying. I've tried turning Open GL on and off but the effect is the same.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

if it was a big new feature like content aware-something or puppet warp i'm sure it would be fixed right away but since a small percentage of users use mac pro's, CS5 and Nvidia cards and also use painting tools, its not a big deal to adobe.
Quite the reverse: painting tools are used thousands of times more often than the new features.
We do take such problems seriously -- but frankly we've never seen this problem ourselves.
We have every variety of Macintosh, every video card, every OS version -- and no such problem when we're painting.
And we can't do much to solve a problem until we have a reproduceable case to examine.
What we do know is that a small number of people have problems when painting.  But we don't know what those people have in common other than running on MacOS.  Maybe they are all using NVidia cards, but we don't know for sure.
And the questions I posted were to rule out obvious problems.  (and font bugs in the MacOS are causing random memory corruption, which can manifest in odd ways)
    Now we need more details.
What OS version are you using?
What haxies and utilities do you have installed?
What else separates your system from a clean install of the OS and applications?
What else makes your system different from everyone else's?

  • Photoshop CS5 strange brush jumping bug

Strange brush bug with Photoshop CS5 Extended English (Updated to 12.0.2 latest).
Youtube link of my screen recording
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxwUi35TMYo
When  I first start (quick) brushing on top right, the strokes appear at bottom  right.... No shape dynamics, no scattering, just plain soft round brush  in black. If I stroke slowly, the behavior is OK.
This is very frustrating and appears very often for me if stroke quickly, so I can't use smudge which is often done quickly.
Windows 7 (Simplified Chinese). Nvidia GTS 450 but OpenGL has been disabled. Graphic driver updated to latest. No brush scattering, no shape dynamics.
    Please help, thanks in advance.

This subject shows up here from time to time.
Unfortunately, I don't recall reading about any specific fix that works.
Usually the advice is update video drivers, check all other software running on the system for possible interference, change wireless mouse batteries, try a wired mouse, completely remove mouse or tablet drivers and reinstall, make sure nothing is moving over an unused trackpad, etc.
Perhaps it would help if you listed your OS and what input device you're using.

  • Trying to script some actions in Photoshop

Hi, first time poster, so bear with me a bit.
I haven't used AppleScript since I was a kid in the days of Classic, when basically everything could be recorded, and have just started trying to play with it in OSX today. Actually typing out what you want things to do seems to be much harder, at least for me, who has zero programming experience.
For reference's sake, I'm running 10.6.8, and using Photoshop CS5.
What I'm trying to do here, essentially, is quicken the process of resizing and saving some .psds. Specifically, I need them as at a height of 1300 pixels, resolution of 72 dpi; and I need to change their color modes to Indexed Color. I also need them saved as non-interlaced PNGs, using the same filenames (other than extension) that they currently have, in a particular folder on my harddrive. While I could do all this easily enough using batch conversion, I'm trying to use AppleScript because there are more detailed edits that I need to do to each file in Photoshop, anyway. I figure if I can get a script that'll resize/remode my files the way I want, and one that'll save them how and where I want, I can just skip the batch conversion altogether and save them in the appropriate fashion immediately after I finish my manual edits.
So, using the example in CS5's AppleScript Reference guide, I tried making a script to save a file as a PNG. This is the script:
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5"
    make new document
    set myFile to "blahblah location"
    set myOptions to {class:PNG save options}
save document in file myFile as PNG with options ¬
myOptions appending no extension without copying
    end tell
For reference, this is the example script in the AppleScript Ref document. As you can see, they're identical except for the location/filename.
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5"
    make new document
    set myFile to "Data:docsamples:testfiles:PngTest.png"
    set myOptions to {class:PNG save options}
save current document in file myFile as PNG with options ¬
myOptions appending no extension without copying
    end tell
When I try to run it this way, I get a syntax error: "Expected 'given', 'with', 'without', other parameter name, etc. but found identifier." When I click "Okay," it highlights the word "options" in "PNG save options," so I assume that's the problem. I tried getting rid of the "save options" bit, but then I get another syntax error: "Expected end of line, etc. but found identifier," highlighting "myOptions" in the second to last line. If I try removing the stuff talking about options entirely, it gives me a general AppleScript error: "The variable PNG is not defined."
So it's quite clear that I have no idea what I'm doing, but I do find it strange that the example script with virtually no modifications isn't working.
If anybody can explain how to write a script for the other functions I'm trying to accomplish, I'd appreciate that, as well, as I do this sort of work on a fairly regular basis.
    Thanks for reading!

Though I have not done it, I think you can if you add a checkbox bean (not the tableSelection) and specify an event for the checkbox bean.

  • What's the Best Photoshop CS5 Scratch Disk Setup for New MacPro 12 Core?

    Hello all...
I'm awaiting delivery of a new MacPro 12 Core with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD drive (Bay1) + 2TB (Bay2) + 2TB (Bay3). Normally I would partition about 60GB of one of the 2TB drives to make an exclusive scratch disk for Photoshop to ensure optimum performance.... with the new spec MacPro and especially the new 512GB SSD, do I still need to do this..?
Any suggestions of comments most welcome... as I want to try to get my new machine set up as best I can before I start copying over my existing data and filling hard drives etc. Photoshop CS5 and Quark Express 8 are my two core apps that I use daily.

…Well yes, technically you've got me on that I will admit.  I'll try to rephrase to be a bit more accurate. The best scratch disk is one you don't need to rely on performance wise, by having enough RAM to handle the data performance needy tasks that would otherwise be sent to the scratch disk, when enough RAM can't be accessed by Photoshop…
    …Hows that?
    Still wrong, alas.
The scratch disk is used always.
See this very short (two-message) thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2847996#2847996
    Excerpt:
    [Chris Cox writes:]
…Photoshop needs to allocate scratch space for data, in case it needs to
write that data to disk later -- otherwise you would randomly fail with
"out of scratch space" in the MIDDLE of an operation…
Furthermore, Photoshop sets the size of the scratch disk ahead of time—the instant you open an image file or create a new document—basing it on assumptions the application makes taking into account your usual, past workflow practices, your settings and the pixel dimensions of the document.
Bottom line:  the scratch disk always plays a part.
Do a forum search filtering the options with Chris Cox in the "Who" box, "scratch" as key word, and Photoshop Macintosh as the forum.  You'll find some enlightening reading.  Examples:

  • Embed hyperlinks in Photoshop CS5?

    Hi, folks.
I've seen this question pop up occasionally but I have yet to see a definitive answer: Can I embed links (hyperlinks) in images, text, etc. in Photoshop CS5?
I build eLetters in Photoshop and would like to embed links in various elements.
    Upfront appreciation,
    Alumidog

Every discussion I have seen here has been pretty definitive.
    No.
Links are created in HTML, not image files. You can slice up a web layout in Photoshop and export HTML with images. But the links will be saved in the HTML, not the images.
As you appear to be new to HTML mailing, try these links for some useful tips:

  • Why don't my adjustments in LR4 show up when I edit in Photoshop CS5?

Why is it when I edit an image in lightroom 4 then go to retouch etc in photoshop cs5 those adjustements that I made on the image in lightroom ie contrast, saturation, exposure etc don't show up when I move the raw image into photoshop to do final retouching on the image but still have it in my lightroom catalog? It is the camera raw issue that comes up when you first try to edit an image and lightroom says it needs camera 7.0 which does't exist yet?

If you read the post in the Lightroom Journal you will get the full answers to the OP request.
    1. you need ACR 6.7 Release Candidate in Photoshop CS 5 to be able to pass the raw data from LR 4.
    2. Camera raw 7.x will not be available in PS CS5 you will require PS CS6 which is now available in release candidate.version. All the info you need is there.
I was just passing on the link to the official info from the head of the Lightroom team so the correct info could be viewed so there would be a minimum of mis-understanding.

We really appreciate, if anyone will give us some helpful advises. Many thanks !!

    Hi,
FWIW, I've never run into problems with anything by Adobe but that aside to get Adobe off your system you'll probably need to run Adobe's cleanscript.  You may also have to use the Windows Installer Cleanup utility. See below article.
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/uninstall-and-remove-adobe-cs3-cs4-and-cs5-with-adobe-cs5-cl eaner-tool/
Below are links to the tech pages that include instructions and links to the cleanscript. (They are probably both linked in the above article along with the Windows Installer cleanup utility.)

  • Photoshop CS5 Brushes etc Questions !

Is there a way to change angle or rotation of the new Photoshop CS5 Brushes ? I've read that you can simulate a canvas texture in CS5, how is this done ?

Did you try modifying the Angle value from the Brush Tip Shape section? Also, the bristle brushes were made for tablets so don't expect to be able to replicate everything when using just a mouse. As for the texture, that's just a function of the Texture section of the Brushes panel

  • Photoshop CS5 Spot Healing Brush only blurs

Here's a before and after shot.  I recently upgraded from CS3 and the spot healing brush always worked great.
Now when I use it, whether or not I use content aware fill, it leaves a blurred residue of what I was trying to remove.
As an aside, the Content Aware Fill leaves a similar residue, enough to make it effectively unusable.
I have included a sample photo of the spot healing brush problem.  Left side is before and right side is after.
I just wanted to get rid of the electrical wall socket.  You can see that it's not working.  I am running windows 8 in a 64-bit environtment and running the 64-bit version of Photoshop CS5.5
Any assitance anyone is able to afford me is greatly appreciated.

In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with your choice of Spot Healing Brush for this image. I cropped your screenshot to the "BEFORE" image, removed the "BEFORE" type (with the SHB) and scaled to 600% to match your original document.
A dab of a 0% hardness 500 pixel Spot Healing Brush in Ps CS5.1 on OS X 10.6.8 worked perfectly. However, I would have made a vertical stroke with the brush at about 80% hardness and about 200 pixels, which also works for me.
Maybe your SHB is working in "Create Texture" mode despite specifying "Proximity Match" in Options bar. Try resetting the SHB by right-clicking its icon at left of Options bar and picking "Reset Tool" from the menu that appears.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 (Windows 7) Lagging Brushes & Tools

    What I'm Using:
    - Toshiba F60 Qosmio Laptop w/ Windows 7
    - Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 bit)
    Hey Everyone,
I'm having an issue with my new Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 bit) installed on my Brand new Laptop (Toshiba F60 Qosmio). Basically I have optimized via the Edit > Preferences > Performance menu in Photoshop CS5 but Im still having major issues with my Brushes, Patch, etc. Tools lagging while using them. When you enable the tool and use it, it will be atleast 0.5 - 1.0 Seconds behind the movement of the cursor. My Laptop is brand new and fully optimized for graphic design and seems to run every other application seamless. Adobe Photoshop launches quick and smoothly but once using the tools it has the same lag time.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? Its driving me nuts and really cutting into my work schedule.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Darren

    Hi Chris,
I will definitely give that a try. I had a tech set up my computer after i purchased it less than a week ago but it is a possibility that he missed it. I will try and run an update this weekend and see if that increases the speed when OpenGL is enabled. I will get back to you on the issue in the next few days.
Thanks for your insight and helpful suggestion.
    Much appreciated.
    -Darren

  • PhotoShop Cs5 to Cs3 Brush issue

    Hello.
Previously I was using PhotoShop CS5 for my personal art design, however i had to switch back to CS3 for various reasons. Having devoted a lot of time and care into my CS5, I saved up my
swatches, styles, brushes, etc..... so I wouldn't lose all my work. I spaced, however, and saved the CS5 brushes with the rest of my generic brushes in the process of a mass save. I no longer have access to CS5, and when I attempt to load the .abr into my CS3, it gives an error.
"Could not load the brushes "D:\etc\etc\etc\Brush Set 1.abr" because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop."
Is there anyway to get in there and delete those specific brushes, recover the ones I'm after......or.....anything?
    Thanks

Call Customer Service. You will need Photoshop CS3 media as a start as Adobe no longer provides media for older versions.

  • Can one get viruses/trojans from filters/brushes/etc...

Is it possible? I do not mean installing the addons using some installation but from the addons themselves. Do they have the ability to execute native code or some strange thing in photoshop?
The thing I'm mainly woried about is filters as I imagine these are simply dll's that are called by photoshop? Or is it some photoshop language that doesn't have any security risks?
e.g., if I download a filter and manually install it from some random website is there any chance when it is used inside photoshop it can create a security risk?

No easy answer? There is a simple and easy answer.
You are saying that a plugin can run external code. If this is the case then it is possible to get a virus. Obviously well behaved software is not what one has to look out for. People don't write viruses to be "well behaved".
If I have some untrusted filters then it seems that I am taking a risk.
But you are talking about plugins and I'm talking about filters. Are they the same? Is a filter a script or some internal photoshop language that doesn't have access to the outside world or is it essentially a plugin?
As you said, Brushes are just "data"... are filters just "Data" too or do they contain real code that can do malicious things?
I realize plugins are dangerous since virtually all plugins are actually just external programs that hook into software to make it more powerful. I'm unclear if filters are more like plugins or more like brushes. I'm specifically talking about things with the 8bf extension. Looking at the file bytes it seems to be an executable in disguise.

  • Photoshop CS5 keeps crashing when using a brush.

    Hey all,
For the life of me, my team and I cannot figure out why this keeps happening.
    1) Open Photoshop
    2) Do everything/anything I would normally do while creating some art.
    3) Create a new layer with no background to brush on.
    4) Choose a brush and append it to the drop down.
    5) Select the size of the brush and color
    6) Start to brush
    7) CRASH EVERY TIME
I have done this multiple times and restarted multiple times. I even have tried using a different file, a new file, different brushes, etc. The same thing always happens. However, I will say that when using some of the other brushes I can get about one stroke and when I go to make another, it crashes. It seems that the bush will crash instantly however, if I use any of the special effect brushes. Mind you I have NO third party or custom brushes. Everything that I have in Photoshop is default.
The only thing that I can think that might be the issue is that my CS5 production suite is a upgraded suite from the CS4 web design suite. Upon installing the CS5, the instructions said that there should be an "upgrade" option/window in which I should put my product ID. That never came up, just the standard install/product ID window. Thus, CS4 and CS5 (both full) are on my Mac. Could this be the issue?
Any suggestions? Anyone else have this issue?
    Thanks!

Yes, I installed the 12.0.1 update. This was happening prior to and after the install.
I am pretty sure im 64 bit
CMYK color with 8bits, should that be on 16?
No I have no 3rd party plugins.
