Filters tab

I just loaded studio 8. I am trying to use filters in Flash 8
Pro. But the filters tab does not seem to be present. Can anybody
help?

By default, the Filters tab is part of the Property
inspector's group,
along the bottom. Filters are only available for text,
buttons, and movie
clips -- so watch out for that, too. ;)

Using Filters tab in AME

Does anyone out there use the "filters" tab when building presets? Is there any way to load filters other than "gaussian blur" into this tab? For instance, All of my shows have to hit multiple target devices, some of which (mobile and web) work with true %100 white, but one target, my cable TV station, needs broadcast safe white levels. I would love to be able to apply a broadcast safe filter in AME, instead of doing separate sequences in PrPro and multiple sends to the AME queue. Are others in this situation, am I thinking wrong?
Also, about the "gaussian blur" that lives in that filters tab - I am pretty sure this is meant for creating better-looking and lower-bitrate downsampled video from a HD source - am I wrong?
If anyone out there is using this tab in building your presets, let me know how and why and whether you are happy with the resulting workflow

I am always needing to convert things that are not already on a timeline. ALL THE TIME. Why involve two programs and several extra steps, to achieve something a simple filter could do? And that is several extra steps for every single clip I need to convert. If I have 50 clips I need to convert with a timecode burn-in, that is 50 damned timelines, and 50 damned Timecode Burn-in's I have to set up in premiere, copying sequences, dragging to the timeline, adding in a filter there -- in order to do something that should be as easy as clicking a checkbox in Filters in AME -- or better yet, setting up a preset (with this functionality) in AME with a watch folder, and all I have to do is drag the files into the folder. That is ONE STEP, as opposed to 20 or so steps for every single clip.
It is absurd for them to think that we don't need some filters in there. Absurd, I tell you! ABSURD!
That said, I still much prefer AME to compressor. But take care of this, Adobe! We have needs. Or at the very least, remedy this: "No, there is no way to extend this part of AME." so that third-party developers can fill in where you are inadequate.
To be fair, Sorenson Squeeze has many of these features, and can be integrated into premiere and AME. It is possible to use Squeeze sort of like a very involved plugin to AME and Premiere. Of course, if you had the extra $800 to $1000 Squeeze program, you'd typically just use it directly instead of involving AME for these things. I just hate to pay that kind of cash to supplement a program that should already have that functionality.

Motion tab over-rides anything in Filters tab

If I use some filters in the 'Filters' tab, and then decide I want to use the 'Motion' tab to zoom/tilt/etc a picture and use keyframes to give it a little action, FCE seems to be ignoring anything on the Filters tab (as though Motion is over-riding Filters)... is there a way around this?

Keep in mind that within the same clip FCE processes filters first and Motion second: however, what you see in the canvas or the viewer window is always the +result of both effects combined+.
Namely if your filter has a point control (e.g. Reflection Center in the Perspective/Mirror filter) the red crosshair displayed on the frame, and also its new value when you click on the frame, is positioned where you expect if Motion has default settings, and it is offset somewhere else otherwise.
I know, this is quite confusing: my suggestion is that you apply the filters first (no Motion), and only when you are satisfied with them you apply Motion.
If you don't want to lose your Motion settings, you could first save them in another clip and copy them back after applying the filter: select the source clip and copy (cmd-C), and select the target clip and past attributes (opt-V) selecting Basic Motion in the dialog.

Snow Leopard Server doesn't seem to be filtering spam....

Hi everyone-
For some reason, lots of spam keeps getting through my mail server even though I have Junk Filtering turned on and set at 2 hits (pretty close to "Aggressive"). I also have RBLs (sbl.spamhaus.org, xbl.spamhaus.org, and bl.spamcop.net) setup but that hasn't seem to help much.

You can get a big improvement in spam filtering by turning on Language Guesser in SpamAssassin. (The accepted language settings do not work until this is changed)
Open a terminal window on the server and edit /etc/mail/spamassassin/v310.pre
Change the line: *#loadplugin Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin::TextCat*
to this: *loadplugin Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin::TextCat*
Also train SpamAssassin - see page 36-37 of http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/MailServicesAdminv10.6.pdf

A parameter that filters and also 'Select ALL' at the same time

I have a situation
1. I have a parameter @Param1 that accepts multiple values
2. I have to display data based on selected values of @Param1
Here comes the tricky part.
3. I have to aggregate on all the available values of the @Param1
Can any body help me in this.
Do i need to take a hidden parameter just for aggregation?or is there any other way?

Based on my understanding, you want to create a multivalued parameter to filter the report, then display the selected values in the report, right?
In your scenario, you could specify a report parameter and give available values. Then add a filter based on the parameter in the main dataset. You could add a textbox and specify the expression using Join() function. Please refer to steps below:
1. Add a report parameter, select the “Allow multiple values” in General tab. On Available Values tab, you could check "Specify values" or "Get values from a query".
2. In the main dataset, go to Filters tab, add a filter like below:

Are you trying to add more users or groups through Group Policy Management Security Filtering tab?
Try right clicking on the policy and then edit
Then in Editor Right click on the name of the policy and Properties
Security tab and add user or group from this tab. Just make sure if you are adding user or groups "Select this object type" has
the correct option also "From this Location" is set to your entire directory not the local server.
Update us with the above.

Video Filters

I have some DV footage which is "over exposed".
To adjust the exposure I have followed the following directions:
1. Drag a clip from the Browser to a video track on the Timeline.
2. Position the Timeline playhead anywhere on the clip so that you can see the clip in the Canvas window.
3. Select the cl;ip on the Timeline, and apply the Brightness and Contrast filter and the Proc Amp filter to it.
4. Double-click the clip on the Timeline to open it in the Viewer.
5. In the Viewer window, click the Filters tab.
6. On the Filters tab, adjust each of the filters you just applied.
7. To see how the newly color corrected clip plays, select it on the Timeline, choose Sequence -Render - Both. Then after Final Cut Pro completes the rendering process, position the playhead just before the clip on the Timeline and press the spacebar to play and view the clip.
Nothing happened when I adjusted each of the filters, nor when I Rendered or Played it back.
What am I missing?
I ran Onyx to "maintain and organize things" but that didn't change anything.

This is really really mysterious.
In FCP HD/4.5 There's a little button on the top-left of the timeline that says "RT"...the setting is under there, but to be honest, I find it unlikely that this is the source of your problem. You should be able to see changes to your clips instantly reflected in the Canvas window. Is it only filters that don't seem to be working? What happens if you double-click a clip in the timeline to open it in the Viewer, and then adjust the size or crop settings under the Motion tab? Are those changes instantly reflected in the Canvas window? Do the bars at the top of these 2 windows in which you are working say "Viewer" and "Canvas"?

Color correcting w/ Effects tab......

I've applied the color correction from the Effects tabl under video filter to a particular clip in a particular sequence. And, I'm attempting to simply start the clip at zero saturation and then end the clip at 100 saturation. I've set key frame points and when I scroll through the clip the saturation numbers change accordingly from 0 to 100, however the color in the clilp does not change at all. The color stays either at 100 or at 0 as I've tried a couple times and have experienced both of these results.
Any suggestions??

I'm using Effects - Video Filters - Color Correction - Color Corrector, and I was simply going for the b&w to color look, fairly cheesy I know, but wanted to try it out and I swear I didn't do anything different this time, it just seemed to work. I'm using the key frames in the "Filters" tab under "Saturation".

Applying filters to dynamic text?

You say you have used the filters tab, and then you say you
added filters in AS3. Those are two different things. Using the
filters tab implies you are using the Flash CS3 interface to add
filters. Using AS3 implies you are typing code into the Actions
panel to apply filters.
To apply filters to the textfield using the Flash CS3 filters
tab, be sure the textfield is selected when you select the filters.
If this is an AS3 coding problem, show the code you are
using.

Can't see controls for audio filters

I'm trying to use the high-pass audio filter. When I apply it, it cuts off an arbitrary amount of low frequency sound, actually too much. But can't see the controls for it in the Viewer/Filters tab, so I have no control.
Where do I go to adjust the amount the levels of this filter?

In the Viewer select the Filters-tab / double-click the sound-file in the timeline.

Video Filters not working.

I'm using Final Cut Express 4.0.1 the Academic version. Whenever I apply a video filter to a clip, in any fashion, there is no effect. No change in the viewer or canvas. Even when exporting the filters do not show up in the final export. I know I am applying the filters correctly, I have gone through the exact same steps on a different computer and achieved positive results.
I have tried trashing the preferences but there was no change.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Tom,
I add the filter the same way I've always done which has always worked in dozens of projects before:
1. Put the cursor over the clip in the timeline so it shows in the viewer.
2. Double-click the clip in the timeline and it opens in the canvas.
3. Use the browser to locate the brightness filter, drag that brightness filter to the clip in the canvas (from step 1).
4. Click the "Filters" tab in the canvas and adjust my settings and the changes are visible in the viewer and the video tab in the canvas.
This process works fine in a new sequence, but will not work on the same clips in their existing/"bad" sequences. No process works to add a filter to a clip in one of the "bad" sequences. I can even:
1. Use the browser to locate my original clip,
2. double-click it there to open it in the canvas,
3. add the brightness filter by locating the filter in the browser and dragging it to the canvas,
4. adjust the brightness there which adjusts it in the video tab of that clip in the canvas,
5. drag that clip down to the timeline in one of the "bad" sequences and - while the effects of the filter disappear (the brightness changes revert back as though the filter is not there) - double-clicking that newly-added clip in the timeline to open it in the canvas reveals that the filter is still on the clip, and the settings are kept, but there is simply no effect visible from it. Yeah, bizarre.
6. Then I can copy that clip from the "bad" timeline which has the filter on it with no visible effects, create a new sequence and paste that clip into it, and bingo, the effect is visible.
I can also double-click a clip from the timeline of a "bad" sequence so it opens in the canvas, add the effect but see no visible change in any view, then open a new sequence and drag the clip from the canvas into the new sequence and the effect is there visible.
Can't explain that one, but that's what is happening.
But the filters add just fine in the new sequence, using the exact same clips as copied from the "bad" sequences. I have no answer as to why this process does not work in my existing sequences but works just fine when I copy the clips to a new sequence. Maybe I screwed up my sequences somewhere during this project that I don't know what I did. But that's what's happening, and copying to a new sequence is the best workaround I have found and it's easy.
I upgraded from 3.5.1 to 4.0.1 recently and this is the first project I've done since then and the first time I've noticed this problem. Not pointing to that as the source, but just providing info.

Bug? Filters not displaying in Canvas?

Trying to put a Colour Corrector on a piece of video to get rid of a green-ish background but keep the colours in the foreground. I drag the Colour Corrector onto the clip in the Sequence or get it into the viewer after having selected the clip, and start to mess around with finding the right colour.
Except it doesn't seem to actually update what's displayed on the canvas. I've had this issue before where sometimes the stuff you're trying to do in the Viewer under the Filters tab just isn't actually displaying any change on the Canvas.
Is this a bug or am I just completely overlooking something?
Any help is appreciated, Happy New Year's and all that.
Edit: and then all of a sudden it starts displaying, for no apparent reason. W.T.F?

Trashing the preferences seemed to do nothing whatsoever except make any image imported into FCE somewhat distorted.
No clue why. I have the "Easy Setup" settings set to 1280*720p if that's connected to the issue - the image shows up in the Canvas with a letterbox black stripe on either side and distorted.

Preview video while adjusting filters

is there a setting that will allow me to run my timeline clip (in loop mode) while clicking on different filters and adjusting them? my video preview always stops when i choose different filters. Thank you

You can do it with audio but im pretty sure you can't with video. However what you can do is go to the filters tab in the viewer window and add and remove the filters by clicking on the boxes next to them, which is much quicker than goin back to the effects tab and reapplying if you've got a few things and want to see how they'll work in conjunction with each other.
