Final channce to change DVD region fails

My current DVD region setting is 1 and I want to change it to 2. I know I have one last chance to do this and when I insert a region 2 DVD I get the dialogue box telling me it:
"This is the last time you can change the drive region code".
When I click on "set drive region" I get the following error message:
"There was a problem chnging the drive region code. Error: -70001"
Can anyone help me? I know for sure I have one more chance to change the code and as I live in Europe I really need it to be code 2,
Thanks.

It seems that many region 2 DVDs are region 4 as well. According to this poster, you need to find a region 2 DVD that is region 2 ONLY so that the drive can fix on that region.
I used to feel that it was fair that we were only allowed 5 region code changes, but since moving country I now have a ton of both region 1 and region 2 DVDs. I'm frustrated that my computer only lets me play some of my legally purchased films.

I still have allowable DVD region changes left on DVD player, but when I try to apply a region change, error message 70001 appears.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem? I've looked on various online forums and tried using VLC - but this doesn't work - and used MacTheRipper to no avail either.

Are you sure the DVD is region 1 ONLY? You can't always trust the label. I have a three DVD boxed set that says region 1. One of the DVDs is multiple region.

  • Changing DVD region settings

Hello! I just got my MacBook Pro today and I am trying to watch DVD's on it. For some reason it is not allowing me to change the DVD region. Since I just got it today I obviously haven't had to change the region so I should still have my 5 times to change it. The option to change to region 1 is available,  however the button to confirm is grey? I don't have a DVD player so this is my only way to watch! HELP!

  • Can't change DVD region for the last time?

I wish to change the DVD region setting on my emac and have one more left from the 5 changes allowed but when I try to change it, it comes up with an alert along the lines of "There was a problem changing the region on your drive." How can I resolve this? It is a newish 1.25ghz Superdrive model.
PS. Someone commented here that perhaps the count of how many changes have occurred is incorrect? If so, how can I fix that? http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2279627&#2279627
Also, the error doesn't seem to suggest I need to use a single-region DVD to set the new region as per here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=31304

I also am having this problem, was told to restart and hold down Alt Apple, P & R at the same time and wait for 3 dongs, and try to change region again, but did not work, I am stuck on region 1 need to change to region 2, the same problem it will be the last change.

  • Unable to change DVD Region

    Hello
We've had a Lenovo G550 2958 laptop for about a year now and only recently tried to play a DVD on it. I had a message to say that it couldn't be played as it's a region 2 DVD (which it is) and this is a region 1 machine. The system then gives me the option to change the region and I select UK (Region2), but I get a message saying that its unable to do this.
Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks

how many times you changed the region before?
also, make sure you have admin privileges.

  • Equium - How can I change DVD region?

even thought it says I have 1 more change available. I have a Pioneer DVD-rw dvrkd08a ata device and it tells me it needs a disk of region 2 origin and to insert the disk and try again, but I just go around in circles.
How do I make that one last change back t region 2?

    Hi
The DVD region is limited and can be changed 4 or 5 times
If the option is grayed out then this would mean that you have already changed this settings view times and now its not possible anymore.
In my experience its not possible to disable this limitation
Of course there are many different information about this and many people try to overcome this by updating the firmware using some pirate and not official software but I would not recommend this because this could damage the ODD
In worst case the ODD will not read and write ant disks

  • Satellite X200-25H Changing DVD regions

I have a Satellite X200-25H laptop and I need to change my DVD region from 2 to 4 as I now live in Australia, but when I try to do that, my computer tells me to insert 'media' What does that mean exactly and what do I need to do to be able to view Australian DVD's?
    Message was edited by: WendyS

What you have suggested makes sense, however it's not working for me. I put in a region 4 DVD and it tries to do something, but then comes back with the same message that I need to insert appropriate media before making the change. I then thought that there might have been a problem with the drive itself, but it plays CD's okay, it just has a problem with DVD's. Any other suggestions?

  • Changing DVD Regions

If I can play a DVD in Region2/Pal, how do change the DVD region in a MacBook Pro drive?
    Thank you

"Changing the region code of a DVD drive
"Most DVDs are assigned a region code that corresponds to a geographic area, to help motion picture studios control the worldwide release of movies. The first time you play a DVD with a region code, you may be asked to set the DVD drive to match that code; DVD Player is restricted to playing only discs with that same region code or with no region code. If you insert a DVD that uses a different region code, a dialog appears asking you if you want to change the DVD drive’s region code.
"IMPORTANT:You can change the region code of a DVD drive only five times (including the original setting); the fifth setting is permanent. Don’t change the region code of a DVD drive unless you expect to play only DVDs that match the new region code in the future.

  • Change DVD region on external DVD Player

I have a DVD player that was set to region 1. It now is not. It says that I have 3 DVD region changes left (yeah, I know you only get 5). I don't know how it changed to a different region, but now I need it to change back to region 1, so I can watch movies again. I have a samsung external dvd player. Any suggestions?

    Hi V
Yes there are several possible origins to this:
    • burning the DVD with x16 speed often gives so much errors that they doesnt work
    • using a cheap brand - same
    • wrong type of DVD
    • to little free space on internal (start-up) hard disk
    1. I make a DiskImage then use Toast™ to burn with x1 speed (one can use Apple Disk Util tool to do this - in iDVD08 one can select burn-speed)
    2. I use Verbatim DVD-R
    3. I use -R no +R or +/-RW disks
    4. iDVD needs 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. 10Gb might work but slow.
<5Gb if it reaches to goal - most probably an useless DVD disk is the result.

  • Can't change my dvd region back, one change left?

I changed my dvd region to region 1 the other night with the intention of changing it straight back to 4 after watching something, however now it won't let me! It said I had 2 changes left so I didn't stress and made the region change and now it proceeds to say I am on my last change, however whenever I click the "change dvd region" button it simply disappears and ejects my dvd. When I insert it again it comes up with the same message instructing me that it is my last change and it's still on 1.
I obviously wouldn't have changed the region in the first place had it said it was my last change but I figured I could just change it back permanently after my last switch! I know you can only change 5 times but I trusted that it said I had 2 left. I downloaded VLC but that doesn't play either. What can I do about this?

I don't know what the problem is with one change left, but this might point you in the right direction.

  • How do you change your dvd region from 1 to 2

How do I change dvd region from 1 to 2

    Hi mike,
Happy Holidays!  The resource below explains the DVD region setting can be changed.
DVD Player: About DVD-Video regions - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201705
How is the region code set?
The first time you insert a DVD disc in Mac OS X v10.3 or later:
If the disc only supports one region, the DVD drive is set to that region. No dialog box appears if you are logged in as an admin user. This will automatically count against the number of times you can change the region setting (see below).
If the disc supports more than one region, or is region-free, the below dialog appears asking you to choose a region for your DVD drive.
If you later insert a DVD that uses a different region, the above dialog will appear.
You can change the region setting up to 5 times, as indicated in the dialog box. On the fifth time, the drive is permanently set to use that region, and you cannot make any more changes. For example, imagine you have both a Region 1 and Region 2 DVD-Video disc. You insert the Region 1 disc and DVD Player is now set to play only Region 1 discs. You insert the Region 2 disc, and set the drive to play only Region 2 discs. If you continue to switch between the discs, on the fifth time the DVD drive is permanently set to use the region of that disc.
    Enjoy the Season ....

  • Can dvd region setting restore by reinstalling mac os?

I am currently using Mbp and have a dvd drive "MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-867" with Firmware Revision: HA13. Currently set as region 3. Can i restore the number of chances of changing dvd regions to "no regions is set" by reinstalling mac os?

Note that RegionX only works with a region-free drive. Most Mac drives are not region-free; you can determine the status of yours by downloading this utility:
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16366/
If your drive is indeed region-locked; there's probably little or nothing you can do. I have not seen any region-lock hacks for any recent SuperDrives.

  • My DVD Player hangs when trying to change the regional code the first time

    Hello,
I am new to this forum and I couldn't find one for the DVD Player specific so I chose this one. Please direct me to a different one if my eyes were misleading me.
I have a new Macbook. Just over three month now and I attempted to watch a movie with the DVD Player last night the first time. When inserting the DVD, the DVD player comes up with a Screen asking me to change the Regional Code from 6 to 1. I don't understand this in the first place since I purchased my Mac within the US. But anyway, When I unlock it with my password and then click the "Set Regional Code" Button (Regional Code preset to one at this time), it turns blue and then the rainbow wheel for being busy shows up. Unfortunately it never leaves and going to the activity monitor it says (Not responding). That causes bad Windows Memories .
Tried multiple ways, let it run for 10 hours and it never returns to the world. Very frustrating, since this is the first time I tried to use this feature.
Is there any advice on how to set this to Regional Code 1. I only have to set it once, but I think there must be an option.
And yes, I know of VLC, but I still would prefer to use this regular DVD player. I think this should work somehow.
Computer out of the box, nothing other then iWorks and MS Office 2008 installed.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks a lot
    The Dark Lord
    Bernd

Does the account you are using have admin rights? I found this :
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2397
+In Mac OS X 10.3 Panther and later, users with administrative privileges aren't prompted to change the region the very first time a DVD-Video disc of a single region is inserted. Instead, the region of the DVD drive is automatically set to the region of the DVD disc that was inserted. Accounts that don't have administrative privileges must authenticate with an administrator account name and password, because changing the drive's region code requires administrative privileges.+
Sounds like it might be worth a try from an admin account first.

  • DVD region won't change on Mac

I brought a region 1 disk. I put it in to test it. It asked me to change the region. I did. I then went back to region 2. Later, I put the region 1 disk in again and it asked me to change it. Watched it. The went to play a region 2 disk and it asked me to change the drive. I did. But then the box just disapears, the DVD player shuts down and nothing happens. If I launch the DVD player again, it asks me to change to region 2 again - same thing happens. Tried multiple disks.
    Tried restarting, no hope.
I know you can only change it up to 5 times, but I've only done it twice, so what gives?

Well how strange. Tried another DVD and it let me change it. Now the first DVD works again.
