Final Cut 4.5 and New MacBook Pro

I've been out of the loop for a while. I had a 1.5ghz Powerbook and Final Cut HD, etc. I recently bought a new MacBook Pro and was suprised to see that I could not open Final Cut Pro anymore (says I don't have an AGP card). What're my options? Thanks

You need the Intel version of FCS, which is version 2.
Should run you about $499.00 when it ships next month.
Apple has an inexpensive upgrade available for nearly fifteen months and was promptly displayed at its web site.
That expires on March 19th.
It pays to stay in the loop I guess.
I'm less patient than Jim.

  • Final Cut Express HD and the Macbook Pro

I just purchased a Macbook Pro along with final cut express HD. After purchase I read that FCE HD won't work with the macbook pro. I was hoping to see if anyone knew if they were coming out with an upgrade to the universal version like they are with Final Cut Pro.
Intel based macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

That will not work. Ian's solution is for dual core G5s and PCIe based iMacs. It does not address Intel based machines like the 2006 iMac and the MacBook Pro. These machines will have to wait till the end of March for the release of new Universal Binary software to run on them. It's possible FCE3 will never run and will need to be upgraded to another version. If you recently purchased FCE HD to run it on this new computer, I'd suggest, if you can, to return it until the position on the new software becomes clear.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 and New Macbooks with Nvidia graphics

Do the new Macbooks announced today (10/14/2008) meet the minimum system requirements for running Final Cut Studio 2?

Lecturing? Really? Not hardly, but I'll answer your query as succinctly as possible.
Will the new Macbook run Final Cut Studio 2? I will wager that FCP will operate, DVD SP will operate and Soundtrack Pro will operate. I highly doubt Color will operate and am not sure about Motion due to the graphics card.
That should answer your question. To "lecture" some more, where will you have media stored and how will you get media, any sort of media into these applications?
As far as graphics and video are concerned, that distinction has been met above. I'm sure the Macbook will operate Photoshop with no problem.
But again, why not check the minimum tech specs for yourself?

  • Problems installing Final Cut Studio on my new Macbook Pro

I just got my new 17 inch Macbook Pro, and am trying to install Final Cut Studio 3.  It installed just fine, and accepted the serial number.  The problem is that every time I open the application, I have to reenter the serial number.  Once I do that, it runs fine, but the next time, I have to reenter the info again.  Anyone have an idea of how to fix this?

do some searching here.  I remember other people having this problem.  You might also try repairing permissions on your startup drive, deleting your fcp preferences

And creating a new account in system preferences:  accounts.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 on new MacBook Pro 15"

Is this configuration enough to run FCS2 on one of the new (June 2009) MacBook Pro 15"?
    -2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    -8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
    -500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
    -SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
-MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display
If so, do I need the 8GB RAM or could I stick with the new standard of 4GB? I don't plan on working with HDV too much, but I may need to edit a few clips of it. Other than that, everything will be standard DV or miniDV.
    Thanks.

Yes, these specs will satisfy FCS2, with some exceptions (notably, Color requires a 17" screen). Here is the full list of requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/
8GB is way overkill for HDV (it's moot at present anyways, as FCP can only utilize 4GB), and WAY overkill for DV.
500GB is enough HD space, but you'll get better performance and reliability with an external HD rather than working with media on your system drive.

i have a new iMac but having problems installing final cut express 4 from old macbook pro ?

FCE was discontinued nearly 3 years ago and is no longer supported.
I don't know whether it's possible to install it on Mavericks and if you do it may not perform properly.
Final Cut pro X and iMovie are the only Apple apps that are supported.

As Bob says, any iMap service can do this. GMail can, iCLoud mail can too.
Both of these can be used with Mail on any device.

  • FCP and new MacBook Pro

I've heard that Final Cut Pro will not work on the new Mac Book Pro laptops.
Has anyone else heard this? It may take some time before they get an upgrade fror this.
I'm keen to upgrade from my 17" Powerbook G4 to the new MacBook Pro for video editing, using photoshop and after effects etc. Has anyone else heard about speed improvement in this area?
    Thanks for any comment.

Yes, I believe to some degree they needed to get something out there and this is filler. I've been wanting a new 15", but will continue to use my old one. I believe it is more pro than the new MBP. I am not one of those complainers, but I live by my pci slot, especially on location, and the express/34 situation is a nightmare right now. I've read a few posts on different forums about the fw400 port not getting enough power and it being traced to the built-in isight. I don't know if it's true, but wouldn't be surprised.

  • Installing final cut express 3.5 onto macbook pro 10.8.4

My Final Cut Express 3.5 will not install onto my new macbook pro 10.8.4
Seems like an awful waste of money...
Does anybody know of a way around this?
    - or is there someone I can sue?!

There is a bug in the installer program that will not allow it to install into a Lion or Mt. Lion Mac.  However FCE 3.5 is a Universal app, which will run on Intel Macs without reference to Rosetta.
Due to its age, there may be some incongruities in this program when run in Lion or Mt. Lion.

How recently did you purchase this program; and did you purchase it new?  Have you been able to get use from this purchase on your previous Mac?

There are two methods to install FCE 3.5 into your Mt. Lion Mac:
    1)  Use Pacifist
    2)  Use Jeremy Johnstone's Terminal method for FCS2, but modified for use with FCE 3.5 (if you are able to figure out those modifications):

  • Internet problem with New Airport Extreme base and new Macbook Pro

So I bought a Airport Extreme base station with my new Macbook pro.
My desktop system uses a DSL modem which is connected to my computer via an ethernet cable. It works flawless. I can also unhook the hard ethernet connection from the desktop and connect it to the Macbook Pro with no problems.
I then connected the ethernet cable from the DSL router to the WAN port on the Airport Base.
I have no problem gettiing the Macbook pro to set itself up on the Airport Network. I can NOT, though, access the internet. I even tried to type in the IP address for the DSL modem while connected to Airport base and can not connect to modem. Does anyone have any advice? Is there a bridging function in the Airport Base that has to be activated?
Another question. If I replace my current DSL Router with a wireless router, do I even need the airport base if all I want to do it connect to the internet with the laptop?
    Thanks,
    Danny

Make sure you perform a complete power recycle when switching network components.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling
    - Power-off the DSL modem & AEBS. (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the DSL modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
If that doesn't resolve the problem, and your DSL ISP requires PPPoE for connectivity, you will need to set that up on your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) as follows:
Connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the LAN port of the AEBS, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility, check these settings:
    Internet tab
    - Connect Using: PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)
    - Account Name: <ISP account name>
    - Change password: <ISP password>
    - Always stay connected (checked)
    - WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
Another question. If I replace my current DSL Router with a wireless router, do I even need the airport base if all I want to do it connect to the internet with the laptop?
No, the AEBS will no longer be required.

  • Airport express and new macbook pro

my daughter has just purchased a new macbook pro and we have set up the airport express. her macbook tells her that she is connected to the airport express but she can not load safari.

Hello Jodi Meyer. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
How do you have the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) configured to get Internet access? That is, do you have it connected directly to another router or modem? If so, what is the make/model number of that other device?

  • 23" Cinema HD display and new MacBook Pro

I bought my G5 and HD Cinema display in 2005 and am thinking of switching out the G5 for a MacBook Pro. Is there an adapter I can get to allow me to plug in my display to the new MacBook Pro?
    Thanks
    Q

I have had this laptop since May and have had nothing but difficulty setting it up screens with it. The mac mini DVI port *** the big one. It is trash as nothing else is compatible with it.
I bought a 24 inch Apple monitor for $999 and can only use this macbook with it. I have two other laptops and none of them are compatible with the new screen - frustrating.
I have tried to hook up the mini DVi port of the MacBook Pro to my new 40 SONY Bravia 120hz LCD screen. It won't work! My three other Mac laptops do fine. In fact my 1992 laptop using mac os 9 works with the screen. The new Mac no way!
I have bought 3 plugs to adapt to my multi screens, they had older DVI plugs. set up, now find that I need another one for the SONY. I had a mac tower G5 that I hooked up to 3 screens with no problems. Try to plug in the MacBook - crap it won't work.
I am angry. I have a $999 monitor that I can only use with one laptop and now I have TV that won't work with the MacBook.
I'm taking this POS back to the shop and buying a clone PC that will work.Mac are you listening - I shouldn't have to buy a new cord for every screen that I own!
I was going to use the Mac Book pro as a server for music and movies by hooking it up to the SONY. THat was a bust too. I'm buying a Western Digital TV box it's cheaper than all of the cables that I need.
Sorry Mac you have let me down with this compatibility issue. What were you thinking? Corner the market on stupid! Oh wait I'm the stupid one for trying to stay true to Mac and spending $3000 plus on a stand alone non compatible system.
I have a 24" screen that is not compatible with any of my other computers because MAC doesn't make patch boxes and I have MAC Book Pro that I can't use with my SONY.
Shop very carefully before you choose this model of screen and mac book.

  • Wireless keyboard A1016 and new MacBook Pro

I have searched but can't find whether my old Apple wireless keyboard (white case) is compatible with my new MacBook Pro. My computer finds the keyboard but then asks for a passcode and it doesn't connect. Maybe I need a firmware update??

    {quote}Thank you for your help.{quote}
No problem. I love my white plastic Bluetooth keyboard with the NUMERIC KEYPAD! I plan on using until I die or Apple offers another Bluetooth keyboard with the numeric keypad. I'm sure there are lots of others that feel the same way.

  • Un-updated iPhone4 and new macbook pro issues

Because of issues with my old PC I have been unable to update my iPhone 4 for about a year and a half now. My old PC crashed and now I am left with an unupdated iPhone 4 and a new Macbook Pro. I have already transfered my purchased music into my new Macbook, but I am worried that when I try to update my iPhone I will lose my 1,800 some unpurchased songs. I backed up my iPhone 4 in my iTunes, and it finished backing up extremely fast so I'm left in doubt that it backed up my unpurchased music.Does this mean my unpurchased music has also been backed up? I'm aware that my iphone will have to be restored though the updating process, and eventually restored from the back up. In other words, should my new itunes library have a back up of all of my unpurchased music, and if not what should I do?

My old computer is crashed so I unfortunately cannot refer back to it although all of those unpurachased songs were indeed on there. I don't have a problem with my purchased songs. I just want to make sure when I update my iphone I will not lose my unpurchased songs. Are my unpurchased songs backed up on my new macbook if i backed up my iphone in my new macbook's iTunes?
