Dave
hi, Davemilton90:
Apple has a very special deal for us who has Power Mac version of Final Cut Pro (5.0 and older), before December 20 (post marked), we can paid 49.00 plus tax, and get the universal version of the new Final Cut Pro 5.1 (which works on both intel and IBM based Mac), it's called Final Cut Studio Corssgrade program.
You can find details on Final Cut Studio's hoomepge, just download the pdf form, send 49.00 + tax and the old final cut install DVD back to Apple, in return, we got the new version that works natively on both Power Mac and Mac Pro.
It's a good deal, don't miss it!!

Question: best Hardware set-up for final cut univ. and mac pro
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has used final cut universal with their mac pro and can recommend a hardware set-up (Processors, memory... ) they found best adapted for it.
my mac pro:
Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number Of Processors: 2
Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
thank you
MAC PRO Mac OS X (10.4.8)Final Cut Studio/video editing requires all four parts of a system…
1) Processor performance
2) GPU performance
3) RAM
4) Hard drive performance
… to be working in tandem. If any one of these areas a caught short then the system as a whole is disproportionately affected. It's one of the downsides to video is that everything needs to be working as well as it can.
So, what I would recommend for you is the following setup as your goal is something like…
Mac Pro 2.66GHz
6GB RAM (4 x 1GB + 4 x 512MB - I'm presumng you already have the 4 x 512MB)
ATi X1900 XT graphics card (or better - depneds on what's available at the time)
2 x Western Digital Raptor 150GB RAID 0 for boot and scratch
2 x Maxtor MaXLine Pro 500GB RAID 0 for data
Any further eSATA storage requirements for cloning, backup and data
Not cheap but should scream. -
Final Cut Studio 2 (Mac Pro Or iMac)
Hi,
I am new to macs and I have not yet bought one. I need FCS2 for video editing but I was wondering if the new iMac with 4gb of ram and 1TB storage would be ok or should I go for a Mac Pro with as close specs as possible.
Regards
KennethI would stick with the Mac Pro option. You can save some money by buying a refurbished model from the online Apple store. This is what I did with my G5 tower. You still get the same warranty as a new one all of the accessories are very complete and exactly like new the only difference is that the box and firmware indicates the computer is a refurb. When you get into editing you will want to expand your capabilities with better capture devices, additional storage, etc. The iMac will cramp you.

Problem sending timeline from Final Cut to a Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project
Hello,
Thank you in advance for reading. I am having trouble sending a timeline from Final Cut to a Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project. Final Cut makes a new Soundtrack Pro project file just fine and opens Soundtrack Pro as it's supposed to, but the project in Soundtrack Pro only has a portion of my audio tracks. I've tried sending by control clicking the sequence in the browser and selecting 'Send to Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project' as well as highlighting my entire timeline and doing the same. Both result in the same Soundtrack Pro proejct with about 1/3 of my total 48 audio tracks (lots of sound FX).
I'm using Final Cut 7.0.2 and Soundtrack Pro 3.0.1 My computer is a Macbook Pro running OS 10.6.8, 2.26 ghz intel core 2 duo, 4 gb ram.
Any suggestions (or workarounds, if it comes to that) anyone has will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again, GabeTry building the project to your desktop and then open the Video_TS in the Mac DVD player application.
How does it play/sound? This application is the best way to see and hear how your burned DVD should play vs. just using simulator and burning.
Just to clarify- are you taking your FC QT file into Compressor and creating a MPG-2 and AC3 file or are you bringing your FC QT directly into DSP?
What codec are you exporting from FC? ProRes422, DV, H264?
Open the FC QT in QT and apple+I to see this.

Trying to install final cut on my macbook pro. HELP!!!!!!
hello
i have a macbook pro. i am trying to install final cut. when i put the disc in and follow the prompts, it tells me that my computer no longer supports this power pc application. if i download os x mountain lion, will i be able to install final cut on my laptop? i think the problem has something to do with something called rosetta. but im not totally sure. does mountain lion have anything to do with rosetta? What version of Final Cut do you have?
There are versions that are Intel, but the installer is a PowerPC app. I have Final Cut Express 3.x and it is working on Lion and ML. If you have a working version of Final Cut on a Mac with Snow Leopard, you can manually copy all necessary files from there to your new Mac - that is how I got it to work (my installer is PPC also). Following are the instructions that I followed (although they are for deletion, it does not matter - it gives all the locations, so I just copied the files to an external and put them in the exact same spots on the new iMac):

I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am? I need them and don't want naturally to buy them again!!!
Thank youAssuming you purchased QT Pro, you can always download it again at no extra charge by logging in to your Apple account.
Regarding FCE, there is no way to download & install the product. You need an original FCE install disk and your FCE serial number.
Final Cut Pro X (aka FCPX) can be purchased & downloaded from the App Store. -
can edit videos with Final Cut ProX a macbook pro 13 "??
Hi p,
Check out the requirements here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4664
If your MBP meets them, it should work fine. -
Converted from Final Cut 7 to Premiere Pro CC
Hello totally awesome community of hard working people who make cool things!
I am converting from Final Cut 7 to Premiere Pro CC. I've been in for 1 day and am impressed that many of the shortcuts are the same.
I have much to learn and am studying every day.
Do you have any recommendations for any great free video tutorial series on this software?
Thanks!
Check out the film I made with Final Cut 7. I'm excited about Premiere Pro CC because it will save me a lot of time!!

Hi all,
I have just placed an order for the new 15" mac book pro with the top spec including the nvidea graphics card.
My friend has told me that for final cut x I have gone way overboard and the graphics card will hardly help final cut.
I use Final cut every day it's my main tool and I did not want to compromise on speed but is there any truth in what he says and how do you think final cut x will work on the mac book pro as I've never used it on a laptop before?
ThanksTman123 wrote:

Maybe he is thinking of another NLE. The GPU is important to FCPX performance.

All recent Macs will be happy with FCP – with all but the most complex and ambitious of projects. You may fund the lack of display real-estate limiting (I do…but we're talking old eyes here) and want to look into an external monitor.

What SACRIFICES do you make using Final Cut on a Mac Book Pro ?
I have a somewhat similar question to one posted below...
...but it seems like a broad question resulted in broad answers so let me pose it a different way.
I need a machine to handle HD video and I'm also considering a Mac Book Pro because of space considerations and the fact that it seems handy to be able to pick it up and take it to a coffee shop should need be.
But WHAT WILL I BE SACRIFICING as compared to an iMac or Mac Pro if I opt for portability? Will, say, renders take twice as long, crashes happen twice as often, etc.? Any Final Cut Pro users with both desk and laptop out there that could advise of the difference?
Thanks.
Message was edited by: dddddanoYou are not sacrificing anything you can't deal with sacrificing. I have both systems, and the only drawback I have had yet is that you can't connect a laptop to a fiber network. But you can still connect through gigE. If SAN and distributed processing are not part of your workflow this doesn't concern you. The processor is a bit slower, but if you plan your time well you won't miss your deadlines.
There are not 8 processors in a MacPro. There are only 2 processors with 8 cores. A core is not an individual processor. But the MacBook Pro only has 1 dual core processor. So you have 6 less cores and 1 less processor. But the MBPro is still very fast. The DVD burner in the MacPro is faster, but the one in the MacBook Pro is a better drive. YOu can get a better graphics card in the MacPro, but if you're not doing graphics or 3d design the MacBook Pro will do wonderfully. An extra monitor makes the MacBook Pro just as easy to use as a tower but, like you said, you can unplug the monitor and take the computer with you, which is very convenient.
My recommendation is, relative to the criteria above, to get the laptop if you can only get one. Use the extra money to buy some accessories like a keyboard, mouse/tablet, monitor (Dell 2408 is a fantastic monitor and inexpensive), and a fast external hard drive. Lacie makes a nice drive called Little Big Disk and comes at 7200 RPM (necessary for video editing) and as large as 640GB in capacity. And it takes power from the Firewire 800 port. It also has eSATA, so with an express34 card you can get incredibly fast transfer rates.
The towers are great, but unless you need King Kong strength in your system, you're better off with the laptop.
Just my thoughts. I just sold my G5 'cause I haven't used it since I got the laptop. I have two MacPros and I usually just use them to add to my distributed processing. I do all my editing from the laptop.
Hope this helps. -
Major Problem with audio from Final Cut to DVd Studio Pro
I am posting this problem again because no further responses have been received regarding my first post. I purchased an MR-HD100 Firestore device from Focus Enhancements. When I use clips from it alone or with other clips created by digitizing from min DV tape on a sequence or timeline the audio works fine in Final Cut. When I import any type of file and believe me I have been trying all kinds of suggestions and wasting almost a dozen DVDs. Whether it be a Final Cut QT file, going straight to compressor and producing an MPEG-2 file and a dolby audio file .ac3 importing them into DVD SP and making the adjustments that MR. Harbsmeier suggested DIAL NORM at -31dbfs and COMPRESSION MODE to NONE, as well as the suggestion to make an aif file with the audio and importing it into DVD SP as well as the video. I get the same result with every try, the clips made with the firestore are so low you cannot hear them. NOTHING WORKS!!!!. And yes I have tried making a DVD with just digitized footage and yes it turned out fine. I called Apple support today and that gentlemen basically told me I am out of warranty so phone help was not available. However, he made a suggestion of changing sequence presets in Final Cut which has now developed into another problem. I have messed up my settings so bad I don't know where I am I can't LOG & CAPTURE in the manner I used to ???? Could someone please advise as to why this problem exists and the correction to resolve it. I do not understand why the audio works fine playing the sequence on the timeline in Final Cut. It plays fine after making a Final Cut QT file. AND it plays fine in simulation mode in DVD Studio Pro. However after you burn a DVD the audio from the firestore clips are not to be heard unless you crank up the speakers or TV to it's maximum level and you can barely make it out. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME Projects are stacking up and was really hoping to go tapeless
Try building the project to your desktop and then open the Video_TS in the Mac DVD player application.
How does it play/sound? This application is the best way to see and hear how your burned DVD should play vs. just using simulator and burning.

Final cut studio and macbook pro
hi i have final cut studio 2 currently installed on my imac, and it kinda slows my general use of the computer
i bought a new macbook pro (the new one with aluminum casing), but its only the base, and i have not upgraded it in any way, so it is as it comes
and basically i was wondering, if i installed the entire final cut studio 2 (and aperture), how would it affect the general speed of the machine when doing other general tasks not FCS related:
a) while FCS is running
and b) while it is not running
i also want to run games off of my MBP so i really dont want to compromise speedIt needs to be filled with RAM, and when running Pro Apps, in the faster graphics processor mode. Mail, etc. will likely run fine along side them. I'd not play games when rendering though.
When they don't run, they don't affect anything but disk space 60 gigs for it all including Templates... RAM is the key to running multiple apps on any given Mac.
Nice Mac too. I just saw one the other day for the first time. I love that new trackpad the most. It's likely a lot faster than my 2.3 laptop, and I can run all the apps at the same time no problem with it. But ya need to fill up the RAM. I like that it's so green.

Final Cut Express 2/MacBook Pro
I have a MacBook Pro (purchased in June 2006). I am trying to install Final Cut Express 2, but it says that I need to install an AGP Graphics Card in order to open and use the application. The computer already has a graphics card in it (ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 Graphics Processor I THINK), so I don't know how to proceed. Please help!
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)Do what Ian says, but it will be very slow, as it is running through Rosetta Emulation, so you should upgrade to FCE 3.5.

I have a MacBook Pro (bought 6 months ago). I installed Final Cut 4 and when I tried opening it, it said that I needed an Agp graphics card.
Anyone know anything about that? Is this version of final cut compatible with the Mac Book Pro?
MacBook ProShane's exactly right - Now is the best time to upgrade to the full Final Cut Suite. You MIGHT be able to hobble along with FCP4 if you follow this hack:

Final Cut Studio Fail After Pro Application Update 2010-1
Final Cut Pro crashes when loading project.
Motion crashes when loading project.
Compressor won't allow me to "submit" my batch from the 'name batch' stage.
I didn't try DVD Studio or Color.
Problems started as soon as I updated. Anyone else have similar problems? I tried dumping my system preferences but that didn't help. I haven't modified or customized FCS at all, I don't have any unusual plugins - I hardly even set up customized window configurations.
Using latest Final Cut Studio (MB642Z/A)
Final Cut Pro 7.0
Compressor 3.5
Motion 4
Running OS X 10.6.2
3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 21.5" iMac
8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Thank you for any feedback. If others have similar problems, I can wait for next update (hopefully soon) otherwise I have no clue where to start.

PrE 9 (Windows) vs. Final Cut Express 4 (Mac)
Hi,
I've managed to do real work with PrE 4 on my Sony laptop and have generated a few reasonably good videos for my purposes at work. I bought PrE 8 but never managed to make it work, even on a clean machine running Win 7. I've mentioned my trevails elsewhere on this forum.
I called Adobe direct sales, mentioned that it's reasonably common knowledge that PrE 8 doesn't work, and asked if there was any deal going to v. 9. As the final cost is only $79 after rebate, I wasn't surprised when they said no. But PrE 8 did not work at all for me. I got 0 utility out of it.
Still, my experience with PrE 4 keeps me hopeful and I have some investment in the Premiere Elements UI.
I am considering the following:
New Windows machine with PrE 9
New Mac with Final Cut Express 4
I quickly read some user reviews at Apple.com and it appears that even FCE4 has some issues, although those were short user reviews, not a forum like this with details and responses.
Anyways, is there anyone who can give me a high-level comparison of the two programs? I would like to move to AVCHD. I like the Avid-style interface. Is there another inexpensive alternative I should be considering?
Also, is Premiere Pro that much better? I would consider that but when I read about problems with video drivers, stability, etc., I assume those relate to a common code base between Pro and Elements. Also, my problems with PrE 8 have made me gunshy about dropping the bigger bucks with Adobe for Pro.
Thanks.
SteveWell, you're asking to cover a lot in a brief forum post. Especially since it's a bit like comparing a sedan to an SUV to a pick-up to a minivan. They all have four wheels -- but which serves you best depends on your specific needs.
BTW, as I'm sure you're aware, Premiere Elements 9 is now available for the Mac too. So, although, at least in my experience, version 9 has fixed most of the bugginess of version 8 on the Windows platform, it also runs quite well on a Mac too. So that gives you another option.
Basically, Premiere Elements is a consumer program. It's got lots of pro features, but it's very user friendly and easy to work with.
Final Cut Express is just like Final Cut Pro, except without all the high-end features. Like FCP, Express can be challenging to learn. But, in my experience, I've not seen any bugginess with it.
Final Cut will digest pretty much anything you feed it. It also edits AVCHD very efficiently, since it does so using a proxy codec -- sort of a lower-rez preview file. The challenge is that this means that, when you want to output your project, it can take hours for the program to render it.
Both Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro are used by professionals. Each has its own advantages. As I've said, Final Cut Pro has a lot in common with Final Cut Express -- but there are very few commonalities between Premiere Elements and Premiere Pro. They both edit video and look somewhat alike -- but comparing one to the other is like comparing a Honda Civic to a Mack truck. It's not really a fair comparison.
As for the bugginess you read about online -- I guarantee that there's not a program or computer system in the world that SOMEBODY hasn't reported issues with. The only true way to know if a program will work on your system or not is to download the free trial.
So -- if I can use the car metaphor one more time -- give them all a test drive. Only you know what's right for your needs.
