Final Cut 5 stills loose keyframes.

I'm working on a project that consists of still images (jpg, tiff, pics, tga)in FCP 5.03. Every time I reopen the project or I have to re-render, key frames and motion effects tend to just disappear. I've tried throwing out the perfs and even moved to a different computer and it still happens. I did the same project a few months ago in FCP 4.5 and it worked fine. Anyone have any ideas?

We've been trying that, exporting all the individual files as a single quicktime movie and using that to edit, but our problem is that due to the nature of the production (An animated television series) all work in progress renders we get are JPEG.
This is because the software we're using to animate with (Celaction 2d) can only output un-compressed or JPEG Quicktime movies. To keep our hard disk space down (Even though we have plenty) it'll be great to fix the JPEG problem once and for all. Otherwise I guess it'll be re-rendering all the JPEG movies into another codec? Which is time consuming.
Anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know of any issues using .wav files?
Thanks again!

  • If I update to Snow Leopard, will final cut pro still work?

If I update to Snow Leopard, will final cut pro still work? My current version of Final Cut Pro is 6.0.6. Thanks.

Apple is not telling you the Complete story about Lion.
The installer for FCP 6 is Power PC code/ IBM CPU code, which Lion does not support.
FCP 6 is NOT Power PC code, it will run on Lion and Mountain Lion, as I have read on many posts.
    The solution??
Solution condition where FCP 6 installed and upgrading OS to Lion
Do nothing, its already running OK
Solution condition where FCP 6 not installed and OS Lion installed.
Connect a firewire drive to your MAC and install the old OS on it (eg snow leopard) ,
    Reboot to that OS
    Install FCP 6
Reboot to your new OS   (EG Lion)
    Run FCP 6

  • Final Cut Express 4 motion keyframing

I'm thoughly famaliar with FCP6, but haven't seen Final Cut Express since FCE Version 2.
I've been asked to teach FCE4 to a friend, but haven't seen it yet and am trying to prepare.
Is motion keyframing (scaling, cropping) handled the same way in FCE4 as it is in FCP6
(ie. in the motion tab of the Viewer), or do you have to do it in the timeline overlay area?
    Thanks.
    Message was edited by: brvideo

Yes, FCE4 handles keyframing the same way as FCP6. You can do it in the motion tab of the viewer or by clicking the keyframe button in the canvas to add a universal keyframe to all motion parameters. You can do the scaling, cropping, etc. in the motion tab or in the canvas if it is in Image+Wireframe mode.

  • Final Cut and Still Image Slideshows

I'm considering buying Final Cut Express as I want to get into video editing. I would very much be a beginner. One need I have is to be able to make still image slide shows with soundtrack etc. I assume Final Cut Express would do the job as well as the more advance video editing?
Any help advice would be appreciated!
    Thanks

  • Converting .MTS for use in Final Cut Express, without loosing quality

I have an external hard drive full of .MTS files from my JVC camcorder that I cannot open with Final Cut Express.
I bought a piece of conversion software, iSkySoft Video Converter, to convert them into a more accessible format such as .mov or .avi, but they lose their HD quality during the conversion. I have also tried software available through Mac, Voltaic, but this also seems to dilute picture quality.
In a previous post, I was recommended Clip Wrap, but having downloaded it, it will not let me open my .MTS files to convert in the first place. I have contacted Clip Wrap Support about this, but am yet to hear back.
I would like suggestions as to how to open these .MTS files in Final Cut, or a piece of conversion software that retains full high definition quality when converting.
I am not very computer savvy, Im afraid, so can any technical jargon be explained as best as possible please! Just for reference, in case it helps, my camcorder is a JVC GZ-HD10.
    Thank you.

MarkTrif, if iskysoft isn't working, use mpeg streamclip to try again, it is free. or get another good third party MTS converter like HD Video Converter for Mac, specially designed to convert HD video formats like AVCHD (mts, m2ts), H.264/AVC, MPEG-2 (ts), DivX, HD WMV, MPEG-4 to SD videos like AVI, MPEG, WMV, MP4, DivX, MOV, my friends recommend it to me, it's safe and works pretty well for me. keep the video image quality. I wish you haven't any problem too!

  • Why do my Final Cut Express still photos blur with a transition?

When I add a still photo into my time line, it looks good. But when I add a transition (I'm adding a fade in), it blurs for a second and then snaps into focus.
Anyone know what might be causing this???
    Thanks!

Probably because it isn't rendered fully.

  • Final Cut Express 4.0.1 update still available?

As of today, August 1, is Final Cut Express still available via software update? I wish to know prior to purchasing the update from version 3.5 to 4.0.
    Thanks.

We have FCE 4.01 and have always had that version.  One project won't open.  We consistently get a dialog box saying file is unreadable or format too new.  I've tried deleting FCE preferences, zapping PRAM, reinstalling FCE and updating to 4.01, etc.  Nothing helps.  Of interest, I copied the project and moved the copy to an external HD, then created a new administrator account and opened the copy with FCE 4.01.  It opens, but then wants to find the connections, which I can't because they are on the internal HD.  Bottom line is that copy on external HD opens, then looks for connections.  Original on internal HD won't open because unreadable or format too new.  Any ideas?

  • Snapz Pro, Final Cut looses quality

    Hi
I captured some video in Snapz Pro and as you can see here:
http://tinyurl.com/39j5w3 it is of a good quality
However when i import it into Final Cut Pro it looses all its quality as you can see here:
    http://tinyurl.com/3atv9l
Anyone know why it's doing this?
    Thanks

Snapz Pro has certain default values. When you call it up and click movie it will have framerate, size, etc. Then when you are done capturing and it prepares it it will have selections to export. Do not recall what the default export is, but if it is H.264 or DV there will be a hit there. You may want to recapture at a PAL frame rate and export with a higher Codec.
You could convert the one you have to PAL, and it may be okay, but if you run into the issue try the recapture (with a short clip as a start).

  • Final Cut Not responding after computer is in Sleep Mode

I put my computer to sleep for a few hours when I go away on a shoot. When I come back and wake the computer, final cut gives me the spinning wheel of death and is not responding. What is even more annoying is when I go to force quit the program, it doesn't quit from the task bar and the dot under the icon of final cut is still lit. Even after trying 10 force quits it still stays active. I am forced to shutdown my computer everytime and this problem happens everytime the computer goes to sleep and is woken up.
Is there a fix to this?

    Which version of FCP?
    Are you on a network?
How many drives are in your Mac?
And, if there is more than one drive, are you absolutely certain you placed your registration information on the correct drive?
The usual explanation is that FCP is trying to locate or verify the serial number (different behaviors in different versions). The drive where that info is stored is inaccessible (because the drive is not spinning and so is the same as not mounted) to FCP (which is loaded into RAM) and totally active.

  • Final Cut, Quicktime, and Pro Tools conflicts

    Hi there,
I'm working on a "situation" I recently encountered, and wonder if anybody else has had this problem.
I'm trying to upgrade Pro Tools LE to version 6.9.2 with the install discs that were sent to me from Digidesign, and it's wreaking havoc with Final Cut Pro and Quicktime.
Initially when I installed the upgrade, I was running OSX 10.4.2, FCP 5.0.3 and QT 7.0.2. The Pro Tools upgrade worked fine, as did FCP when I launched it, but Quicktime wouldn't launch- spinning beachball forevermore.
So after doing all the basics- trashing pref's and render files, repairing permissions, etc.- and finding QT still wouldn't work, I tried upgrading to QT 7.0.3.
Once I did that, QT still wouldn't work, and Final Cut Pro would no longer launch. It just hung on the application startup screen, at no particular point each time.
I then upgraded to FCP 5.0.4, and as well OS 10.4.3. No luck. I installed the Pro Application Support updates 2005-02 1.0, and 3.1, and still no luck.
Since there is not yet a downgrade from QT 7.0.3 to 7.0.2, I ran the 7.0.2 to 7.0.1 installer, and downgraded to QT 7.0.1. QT still wouldn't launch, and FCP still hung on launch but this time it hung at the point where it was loading audio filters.
I tried removing the audio filters from their folders to see if it would launch then, but that didn't work. At this point, the only thing I could think to do was to uninstall Pro Tools altogether (safe uninstall, not clean uninstall) and this is what finally brought Quicktime and Final Cut back to life. Great, because I use FCP and QT everday, but I no longer have the use of Pro Tools.
Throughout this process I made sure to diligenty repair permissions, trash prefs, and restart whenever I made a change.
So I'm not sure at this point how to get Pro Tools LE 6.9.2, Final Cut Pro 5.0.4, and Quicktime (any version above 7.0) to work harmoniously, and I'm unable to spare any more troubleshooting time for a week or so because there are of course, projects due.
Has anybody else encountered these oddities?
    Thanks a lot,
    Joni

    Hi, Joni C
    I'm Bump,
I'm having the same trouble, I have FCP I'm running it on a G5 power Mac dual 2.5 ghz with 2.5 gb of memory, my os is 10.4.4. I also have Quicktime pro 7.0.3 and I have Pro Tools LE 7.0, every time I try to use FCP it starts and about five sec. later it shuts back down. I also have a Universal Audio UAD pci card that runs audio plugins and I also have fxpansion program it converts my vst & Au plugins to rtas for pro tools le. IBefore I installed FCP I wiped my hard drive and re installed a fresh version of tiger 10.4 and then I installed FCP studio, then Pro Tools, then all plugin and kept checking to make sure every thing was working correctly and then the U audio stuff with the Vst to rtas wrapper and it all was working fine. I even did the full final cut tutorial still worked fine. Yesterday out of no where final cut just stop working and still all the other programs work fine like dvd studios, soundtrack, motion, pro tools. If you can shead any light on this I would be very greatful

  • How to use Final Cut pro with external hard drive?

I have too little space on my computer so I have to use final cut pro x with an external hard drive, but whenever I have the hard drive plugged in and Final cut going, my computer goes very slow. I just upgraded to 16gb ram... but can't seem to run FCP x while an external hard drive is plugged in. FCP just freezes up and I have to force quit.

    craigbuckley wrote:
all the files and events in final cut are still on my internal, so my internal drive is still full.... Do I have to go and delete everything off my internal?
In addition to the excellent advice to keep your media on an external HDD, you need to make sure that your system (boot) drive has a decent amount of free space if you want to have a satisfactory editing experience. Many people recommend not going below 20% free space. That's especially so for the boot drive, but as you fill up the external, its performance will also slow. Ideally, we would have separate media and backup drives,
You don't need to "delete everything". Rather, you first figure out what needs to be moved. You copy those files to the other drive and then verify that all the files you copied are in two locations. At that point you can delete those files from your boot drive.
    Good luck.

  • Final cut pro 4.5 playing back poorly

I've been using Final Cut Pro 4.5 for a year or two now, and suddenly it's been dropping frames like crazy on playback. I just upgraded to OS X 10.4.6, and Quicktime 7.1, and after that, Final Cut Pro hasn't been working right. I use iMovie to import all my footage (just from a regular DV cam) and that works fine and everything plays back fine in Quicktime and in iMovie and in the Finder. However, when I'm looking at my project in Final Cut Pro, it already starts dropping frames and freezing up when my clips are still in the browser and I'm just looking at them in the viewer. They kind of freeze, and the audio keeps going, and then the video comes back a few seconds later, and freezes... Every once in a while I get an error message that says "General Error." I've closed all other applications, disconnected the internet, and Final Cut is still not even playing back my files correctly. Looking at other posts, I made sure no windows were overlapping, I set the zoom to "Fit to Window", I threw out the FCP preferences, everything I could think of. My computer is only an 800 Mhz Powerbook G4, but I have 1 Gig of RAM. The video files are all on an external Firewire hard drive, and both my internal and external drives have a good amount of free space. My laptop is also plugged in with the energy set to Best Performance. And until upgrading my OS, I hadn't had any problems like this. Has anyone else experienced this? Is Upgrading to FCP 5 the only solution (or will that not work either?) please help. Thanks.

I think your problem stems partly because of OS and QT combination you are running. I'm a firm believer in running FCP HD in 10.3 and QT 6 because it was written for that OS and QT combo... I've an article about all of this in the Creative COW magazine.http://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/newpage_wrapper.cgi?forumid=1&page=http://www.creativecow.net/magazine/cowmagsubscribe.html will get you a pdf by registering.
Capturing in iMovie isn't the best either. If you capture with FCP, the DV codec used is optimized for FCP, and you'll find a much happier result.
When you go to an new OS, don't 'upgrade' rather, reinstall it from the ground up... starting with a nice empty disk drive. FCP HD will run the best in 10.3.9 if you don't have a capture card, and in 10.3.8 if you do.

  • Final cut pro fcp 6.0.6 unexpected quit using OS 10.6.8

Just upgraded to OS 10.6.8 and installed MacKeeper (big mistake) and FCP 6.0.8 quits during start up?  Trashed MacKeeper and re-installed everything but Final Cut Pro still quits during start up?  Everything else seems fine - any sugegstions about what is hapenning here?

You should probably trash your FCP preferences. This application will make it easy:

  • Can't Update Old Final Cut Pro Projects

I use Final Cut Pro for work and just recently updated. I didn't realize that I needed to have all my projects in my "Final Cut Pro Projects" file while updating. I had a lot of my projects in a "Final Cut Pro Projects-Not In Use" file when I updated my Final Cut Pro and now those projects will not update. I didn't have a "Final Cut Pro Projects" file after updating so I created a new one under "Movies" in my Finder and added all the projects to that and Final Cut Pro still won't update them. What am I doing wrong?
Also, now that I've updated the projects are exporting as .MP4s and my boss wants them as .MOVs again. Is there a way I can change them to that?

I have been trying to add a screen shot to this reply for the past ten minutes but I keep getting "An error occurred while trying to submit your post. Please try again" So I will try to explain it to you.
I click the arow on the bottom right hand corner. Then click "Master File..."
    My settings are:
    Format: Computer
    Video codec: H.264 Better Quality
    Resolution: 1920 x 1080
Audio file format: QuickTime Movie (AAC)
    (don't click Include chapter markers)
    Open with: QuicTime Player (default)
On the bottom it reads left to right:
    1920 x 1080 | 23.98 fbs   Stereo (L R) | 48 kHz  00:00:04:02   MPEG-4 movie 10.4 MB est.
Then I click "Next..." and save it to my Desktop and click "Save"
I hope that makes sence! Sorry the screen shots didn't work!

  • Final Cut Pro 10.1.3 - Choose another SAN location

I have just upgraded to 10.1.3 and Final Cut Pro still cannot update ALL my projects and events that are in the Old Final Cut Projects and Events on my 2T My Passport external HD.
I get a message that this location - My Passport - is not a valid and that I should choose another SAN location or folder.
I'm at a loss here. I have always been able to use the external HD when using Final Cut Pro.
I have watched Final Cut Pro how-to-update videos, have searched these discussions but to no avail.
    Any help most welcome!

I moved the Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects out of the My Passport Old Final Cut Projects and Events. Now I don't get the message saying it is not a valid SAN, but when I try to update the Projects and Events I get a message that there was an error when updating and another My Passport Old Final Cut Projects and Events is created.
    This looks like Catch 22!
Is it possible to downgrade to Final Cut 10.0.9?
