Final Cut 6 Help Menu empty

I just noticed it but apparently either when I installed Studio2 upgrade or possibly after one of the Pro Application updates between then and now, the Help Menu in Final Cut Pro comes up empty except for the search box. The help menu in Motion, Soundtrack, DVD Pro are all complete.
Is there some way to fix this without reinstalling the whole enchilada?
Thanks.
Andy

Don't know what caused it, but it fixed itself upon re-run.

  • Final cut pro 7 menu bar slow

So I recently upgraded my MacBook Pro to a SSD drive.  I reinstalled OS and everything, I've noticed that since doing that Final cut pro 7 seems strange.  Whenever editing and then clicking on the menu bar it takes up to four seconds for it to respond and drop down.  I've tried rebooting, reinstalling "7.0.3" update and I've even verified and repaired the disk permissions.  PLEASE someone help.  With my standard original hard drive I never had this issue.  With both situations my media and everything was on the same hard drive.
    System Specs:
    OS X: 10.8.3
    Proc: 2.3 GHz Core i7
    Mem: 8GB
HD: 500 GB Solid State SATA Drive
    Thank you in advance!
    -Tim

Ran into the same issue here.
    dual 2.66 6-core Mac Pro
    OS 10.8.3
Did a full base 10.8 install. Ran all updates. Repaired disk perms. Ran the original FCS3 installer. Ran all updates. Repaired disk perms again. Opened FCP and got the same 4-5 second menu bar freeze. Not only the menu bar, but playing clips on the timeline has the same delay.
What I can tell you is that it's related to your specific user perms. Try logging out, logging back in as a different user (create a new one from scratch) and you'll see that FCP works just fine. So, as far as I can tell, the error is related only to the original user account that installed the application.
I didn't have enough time to research this in detail, so I just wiped the original account that installed the app and have migrated over to the new one.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone else about a more elegant solution.

  • I can't burn a normal dvd from final cut pro.Help would be much appreciated!

Hi.I am having great difficulty burning my final cut pro project to dvd.It is shot in HD and I have compressed it but when I burn a dvd it will not play in a normal/standalone dvd player.Could someone please tell me how to burn my project to dvd.Can HD film be burned to a normal dvd?The final cut pro file is only 1.3 GB.Any help/advice is much appreciated.Thank you.

    >Could you please tell me what the best settings to use when compressing to quicktime or if infact it has to be done at all?
Matt has already told you twice; his first response (above) gave you step-by-step instruction.
I'll spell it out for you again but with slightly more detail:
    1. In FCP, render the Sequence fully, then go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie.  (do NOT use "Using QuickTime Conversion).  In the export window, do NOT Recompress All Frames.  You can chose to make the movie self-contained or not.
    2. Use the resulting file in Compressor, where you will chose a DVD preset appropriate for your video's duration.  If needed, you can duplicate then modify any preset to better suit your needs.  Compressor will create two files; an MPEG-2 video file (.m2v) and a Dolby Digital audio file (.ac3).
    3.  Use the two files created by Compressor in DVD Studio Pro to author and burn a DVD.  Do NOT author an HD DVD as these will not play in DVD players.

  • My media is not being recognized by Final Cut! HELP PLEASE!

My media is not being recognized by Final Cut it was there yesterday and today it is not recognized by FCPX
it looks like this now>>> but it is I cans see it in Finder and Quicktime? HELP PLEASE!

That's a compound clip. Not sure what you've done, but that's not a clip icon. Where did this media come from? How did it get into your computer? Is it really HDV? Was it captured using FCP?

  • Final Cut Express Help

I have a SONY HDR-CX360 but cannot seem to get the footage to load correctly into Final Cut Express. Each time I do it it gives me a "!" under the status portion where you drag the footage. Anyone know how to fix this?

The HDR-CX360 can shoot in either HD or SD mode.  If you shoot in HD mode the video is AVCHD and you should be able to use Log & Transfer to get the video into FCE.  That is, provided the camera is connected via USB and you selected one of the AVCHD Apple Intermediate easy setups in FCE (found in FCE > Easy Setup)
Please tell us exactly what model Mac you have, what version of OSX and FCE you are using.  We need that info in order to further help you.  By the way, if you have FCE 4, we need to know if you have version 4.0 or version 4.0.1

  • HELP HELP HELP    Final Cut Express   HELP HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got Final Cut Express and I a having so much trouble. First of all I can’t get videos to import from my camera, so I put them into imovie and converted them to xml files. When I bring the xml files into final cut all it says its media offline. I went and located them still the same. So then I just exported the videos from imovie to my desktop and dragged them into final cut. This worked but it takes almost two hours to complete this process. Now I have a clip final cit and I render it, but if I move the clip the slightest bit the clip says it’s un-rendered. I hear all about how I need to match the rate sizes but I cannot figure out how to do this. Please help me I am getting so frustrated.
    The camera I am using is a Samsung HMX-H200 Camcorder - 1080i - 3.32 MP - 20 x optical zoom is that will help
    Thank you
    Gerald

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Your camera shoots in H.264, a delivery format that FCE does not support. You should first convert your clips using the free [MPEG Streamclip|http://www.squared5.com> to Quicktime in the Apple Intermediate Codec at a frame size of 1920x1080, a frame rate of 29.97fps, and audio set to Uncompressed Stereo 48kHz. Streamclip has a batch convert function that you may find useful.
Once you are done converting (don't use iMovie, go straight from the camera to Streamclip), import the clips into FCE and edit them in a 1920x1080i60 sequence for best results. You shouldn't have to render.

  • Will Final Cut Express help with...

I am considering purchasing Final Cut Express for a video project I am working on for my company. I have been using iMovie for a while and have not found a way to overlay a graphic (in this case, our company logo) on top of video. Will Final Cut Express allow me to do this?
Also, I just shot some video of clients giving testimonials that I would like to turn into marketing pieces. Unfortunately there is a lot of background noise in several of the clips. Does Final Cut Express have any audio tuning features that will help me reduce or remove the background noise?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Will Final Cut Express allow me to do this?
    Yes, easily.
Does Final Cut Express have any audio tuning features that will help me reduce or remove the background noise?
Not really. You could try using a noise reduction tool like SoundSaop, but you're best bet is to re-shoot using proper mics and placement.

  • I'm having problems with my final cut! HELP!

When I try to open my final cut express on my macbook 2.0Ghz it always tells me that I need a AGP graphics card. I have no idea what to do. Please help.

It's telling you that you are running an non-intel version of the software. Time to upgrade to the Universal Binary version - FCE 3.5 I believe.
I could be wrong as this is the Final Cut Pro forum but, the issue is similar.

  • New to Premiere, from Final Cut. Help editing native RED r3d

I am one of the many new converts to Premiere Pro CS5.5 from Final Cut after many years using the Apple software. I want to dive right in and start editing with Premiere, but I've run into an immediate snag.
First, I have heard endless discussion about Premiere Pro's abillity to edit raw RED footage natively. Just drag in the r3d files and go. Yet, I haven't even been able to get Premiere to get me this far in my editing workflow. I have worked extensively with RED footage, and in the past I was transcoding in Final Cut to a Pro Res (Proxy) and conforming/onlining at the end using log and transfer or RED alert. Naturally, I was excited to be able to drop in native RED files and never have to online at the end. Here's where my problem comes in: I drag in the r3d files from a recent shoot. 4k 23.967 shot on RED. I double click the clip in my project to open it in the source monitor and all I get is black. I can't scrub, I can't playback video or audio to make my cuts; all I get is timecode. HOWEVER, if I drag the r3d file straight to the timeline, I get picture/sound and everything. Of course, this is no way to edit and I can't just be dropping full clips into the sequence and trying to trim from there. Like any editor, I want to be able to double click my clip, scrub through it in the source monitor, and find the particular take I want to use. THEN, I add it to my timeline.
WHY am I not able to see/edit the raw r3d files in my source monitor? Has anyone experienced this problem? Frustrated and unable to start using this highly touted Premiere (which I wholeheartedly want to believe in). Please instruct me so I can get up and running with my RED footage. In the meantime, it's back to Final Cut 7...
I should mention that I am using a Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2.4 GHz Mac Pro with 15GM Ram and an ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card. I have heard NVIDIA is the way to go, but we aren't upgrading/changing graphics cards in the immediate future. So for now, this is what I will be using. Hopefully this is not the sole reason I can't playback/see anything in my source monitor with my r3d files.
    Thanks
    Daniel

Excellent! Changing to the Adobe player solved that problem (although, of course, it presented new problems, all related to Blackmagic card). Also, to answer your question-- yes, the pro res proxy files were working fine in Premiere.
Now I can see and edit my r3d files, which was paramount. However, now I can't get either the source monitor or program monitor to output playback through the blackmagic card to my external monitors (42" LCD and a smaller 17" Sony color correction monitor). I should note that both of these monitors are routed through my blackmagic card so they don't show up as options under the "playback settings" tab in the source/program monitors. Do I need to rerout these monitors differently so that Premiere Pro recognizes them and will utilize them as external monitors? I need them to playback for clients, bosses, etc.
Another note-- If I make my sequence a blackmagic preset, it will output the program monitor but only playback a few frames and then freeze. If I make it a RED cinema preset, it will playback fluidly but won't output to my external monitors.
The freezing, in my assumption, is due to the fact that the only blackmagic editing mode available is uncompressed 10bit, which doesn't playback well (it uses an editing mode of uncompressed 10bit even when I pick JPEG for the sequence preset).
I guess, in summary, my question is-- does blackmagic not integrate well with Premiere Pro CS5.5? Should I re-rout the monitors not using a BNC cable into the blackmagic card, but instead DVI them into the back of the Mac Pro? Thanks again Colin,
    Daniel

  • FINAL CUT SERVER Help or Suggestions plz

Recently when I add clips to server and then pull them out to work on in Final Cut, they come out wobbly and interlaced, but my field dominance for these and for the sequence I work in is set to none... it didn't always do this, and if I add them to final cut from my local they are totally perfect but sure enough as as soon as I add to server they are useless, so what's changed?

Are you working with edit proxies or the original media?

  • Color and Final Cut Integration HELP

hi i'm a high school video student and after using final cut 5.1 for a year or so, i just upgraded to final cut studio 2. i've edited my entire project in final cut, sent it to color, did all the color work, and rendered it. now i want to send it back to final cut and export it as a compressed quicktime but no matter what i try, i can't get the color corrections/effects from color back into final cut. can anyone explain to me how to do this?

Hi - what version of Color & FCP Studio are you using? We've discovered a bug using 1.01 where Color doesn't send it through to FCP - there is a work around though. After rendering in Color save your project and then export it as a XML. Open the exported XML in Color, re-render and then send to Final Cut. It's a bit annoying but works. Also make a note of where your Color render files are so you can reconnect to them from FCP if you need to. One last tip - have a look around P75 of the online manual, lots of good tips about limitations etc.

  • Importing/Exporting LiveType Files in Final Cut Pro HELP ASAP!!!!

    Heres my issue...
I created a little text animation in LiveType and then decided I wanted to bring it into FCP to put together with a company video I created as the intro. I rendered/exported it from LiveType and then took the final exported video and imported it into FCP. All I can say is, I am very frustrated, because the animation looks very good exported from livetype and in FCP when playing back on the timeline, but when I export it out of FCP, it looks awful and quality/size is all messed up. I made sure to set the canvas in LiveType to match 720p and tried every exporting size under the sun on FCP from 720, 720 16:9, even SD and other weird exporting features and I can not get it too look ok.
Then I tried just going into FCP and Importing just the Livetype file WITHOUT rendering it, and I till had the same issue.
Not sure if I am still mis-matching my settings and/or canvases within both programs, but all I know is I have tried many options and still no luck. If anyone would like to see screen shots, or actually compare video footage of what I am doing when Im exporting (using a screen capture program) let me know and I can email it to you and we can go back and forth to discuss and show images and what not. I really need to get this done for a client project and would help me if I had this answer soon.
    Thanks!

Don't bother rendering a movie out of LiveType, simply save the project file and import it into FCP.
LiveType outputs in the Animation codec only, so you will always have to render. Using the project file has another advantage -right clicking and choosing "Open in Editor" will drop you back into LiveType where you can quickly make adjustments, save and return to FCP with the changes in place.
To set project properties, you can use the Place Background Movie function in LiveType. Drop a short clip in and it will automatically adjust the properties to match. You can delete it once you have the settings. If you have Anamorphic video, you will still need to adjust the pixel aspect ratio -exact settings depend on the format, you haven't told us that yet.
Again, depending on the format, you might have to set the Anamorphic flag in FCP's Item Properties for the LiveType file.
When you view the FCP export in QuickTime Player 7 (not QuickTime Player X) make sure that the High Quality Playback preference is selected.
    Typefaces in video:
Avoid using small, thin, delicate and Serif typefaces. They never work well.
A well known example of a Serif font is Times, which you should avoid at all costs in any case -it makes it look like you made the titles in MS Word. Stick with San Serifs with clear, bold strokes. Helvetica is a popular example of a San Serif.
If your titles are white, reduce the brightness to around 90%. Apply a shadow or border to distinguish them from the background. While it might sound counter productive, applying a tiny amount of blur can help too.
One more thing: Don't put your email address in the body of your post. The forums are open to anyone who wants to read them and by extension, web bots. They will harvest the address and bombard it with spam. We don't do personal email on the forums anyway -we share information amongst all users.
