Final Cut 7 Exporting - GENERAL ERROR Message
Been working on this for days now and it's driving me nuts. I'm trying to export a 22-minute long sequence. These are my export settings:
FCP 7
File -> Export -> Quicktime Conversion
Format: MPEG-4
Options:
File Format: MP4
Video:
Video Format: H264
Data Rate: 25,000 (approximately - it might be a little more or less to get it to 2GB)
Image Size: 1280X720
Frame Rate: 29.97
Key Frame: Every
Frames: 3
Video Options:
Restrict Profiles to: Main
Encoding Mode: Faster (unless you want to spend a couple of days rendering)
Audio:
Format: AAC-LC
Data Rate: 320
Channels: Stereo
Output Rate: 48.000 kHz
Encoding Quality: Best
I keep getting a General Error message. I've tried everything. Settings are kosher, I've rendered every single clip, full timeline renders perfectly well, I export just small segments and that works, don't know what to do.
Suggestions?
Yeah, it has to be a settings issue. Just won't let me export something that large. I threw in the quicktime file of the last portion into the timeline with the rest. General error once again at 80%. So I know it's not something in the actual sequence.
If it exports as a quicktime, and then it exports in three broken up segments without a hitch, there must be something that's not allowing me to export a file that large.
Any clues?

Final Cut Pro X – error message when exporting project
Hi,
When sharing a project to Master File I get an error message (error 1) – error occurred when creating frame (10387, 12723, 12836 and so forth). I keep editing and cutting these ‘bad’ frames out (with the blade), but it keeps finding new error frames. I originally found the bad frames as they were showing up green in the timeline. Now, I can't find any more green/bad frames, but the error messages keeps coming up. The file shares to 29% and then stops.
Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue? How can I get rid of these error messages? How can I export (share the Master File) the project?
Thanks,
AliciaAre you working 0n 10.0.9? If not, update FCPX and see whether that solves the problem.

Final Cut Express General Error
I successfully installed and worked with Final Cut Express 4.0 at the end of last year createing a number of small projects. When I came back to rework those projects yesterday I found that while they will load and appear as rendered files I'm unable to play them as each time I try it generates a General Error (no number)! At that point FCE becomes very unstable and usually quits. I have trashed the preferences, re-installed the programme but have failed to solve the problem. Can anyone shed any light on what has happened. The only change that I am aware of is an upgrade to Quicktime 7.4.1.
iMac G5 running OS X 10.4.1 FCE Version 4.0It would appear that the latest version of Quicktime (7.4.5) has resolved this problem. Interesting that it was after the last Quicktime upgrade that the problem first surfaced.

Final Cut Pro 7 error message (out of Memory)
I have an 8 core 6 gigs of ram. My mac is configured for HD video using XDCam footage.
I get a message that I am out of memory. 26:30 program and I have a lot of filters on my footage.
Can you tell me how I can release my memory? Conrol Command P R?
Can some help me with this?
SteveI have a few times ... strangely enough, when rendering to another internal drive with plenty of space, but the boot drive was 98% full (not my system). When you have too little free space on the boot drive (which the system uses for temp and swap files), all sorts of wonky things start happening, and not just in FCP so I suggested checking that since MtD had already covered the graphics issue.
But you are correct; the error message is usually the result of importing an improper file format or still image not to proper specs. With still images, it can happen not only with CMYK color mode images, but also with images in Grayscale or Indexed color modes.

When I export from the timeline in Final Cut Pro HD, I get a general error message
When I export from the timeline in Final Cut Pro HD, I get a general error message and the export quits. Any ideas on a fix?
Also, if I remember correctly, Final Cut Pro HD was version 4.5. Is this what you are running?
If so, what version of OSX and Quicktime are you running?

Missing Render files, won't play, General Error message
I have Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 on my Mac 1.8 Ghz Power PC G5, using Mac OS 10.4.10.
I just opened a Final Cut Pro project and got a message that several render files were offline. No idea how that happened, and I couldn't find them to reconnect. Now, when I try to play the video, it stops and a "General Error" message comes up.
I tried re-rendering the whole thing, and reconnected all my media files, but it still won't play. Any ideas on how to save my project? There are just too many possibilities for us to start guessing. Try searching for GENERAL ERROR and MISSING RENDER FILES, both topics get posted often so you'll find several suggestions and possible causes. However, not many people bother to close their threads around here so there's no way to know if any of the information we passed on was of any help.
FCP 4 and 5 had the odd super-power to make files disappear as if they had never existed. General Error often indicates a corrupt project file so try to open one of your AutoSaves.

'General Error' message when rendering purchased footage
Hi folks,
I just received some royalty-free footage in the mail which I ordered awhile back.
I'm finding that some of the clips import and render fine, while others import fine but give a 'General Error' message when I try to render. In essence, I'm able to use only some of the clips.
I actually have footage from TWO DIFFERENT companies, so I'm thinking the problem is not with the footage but with Final Cut Express's ability to render the files. Has anybody else gotten this 'General Error' message when trying to render royalty-free, purchased footage?
Any suggestions as to what the problem might be and how to fix it?
Thanks very much!
VicHmm....if they're HD, try using MPEG Streamclip (free) and see if you can open them, and convert to Quicktime (command-E in Streamclip) using the Apple Intermediate Codec for your codec. What frame size are they? 1280x720? 1920x1080? Hopefully they are one of those standard sizes.
Once you have a converted file (which by the way will be much larger than your downloaded purchased files), then you can import them into FCE, but before doing so, make sure you go to Easy Setup and select the preset that matches the footage (for example, if it's 1920x1080 and 30fps, then in Easy Setup select the HD popup then under "Use" select the Apple Intermediate Codec 1920x1080i60 preset.) Then create a new empty sequence, then import your files. -
General Error Message Won't Let Me Save
Hello,
I was editing an HD video earlier and I switched my audio/video settings to sequence preset DVCPRO HD - 720p24 - my capture present to DV NTSC 48 Khz (since im not capturing. i pulled files off an external hard drive - my device control preset was on SONY HDV FireWire. My video playback was on apple firewire DVCPRO NSTC 720x480. I opened another project and switched my user settings to regular DV NTSC. when I got back on my HD video, it showed that I needed unexpected rendering. When I rendered it gave the "general error" message. I had to select each clip that needed rendering and move it a little, then re render the selection. when I went to save the project it gave me the same "general error" message. I need to export this project to qucktime ASAP to put on a DVD. what should I do? pleeeease help......
thanks in advance.
and am I royally screwed????sounds like you have some corruption going on, or perhaps a permissions issue (though I think that's less likely). Here are some things I'd try.
Create a new sequence with the proper settings for your footage. Copy all the clips in your old sequence and paste into the new sequence.
Create a new project with a new sequence. Copy and paste the clips of old sequence into the new sequence of the new project. Save As and give it a new file name.
Check the pathway to your Render folder and your Save folder. Make sure that permissions allow for READ AND WRITE all the way down. In other words, if your render folder is in:
Harddrive/FCP/Render
Then make sure all three have READ WRITE permissions applied. Do this by selecting them one by one and hitting CMD+I for info. Then look at the permissions.
Hopefully one of those options will help.

I have recently finished and edited a wedding DVD for a client. However they want now all uncut footage onto a DVD but every time i export it (sequence is only 1 hr 30 mins) it comes up with a general error message just before completing.I have also rendered all in the sequence and i have 35 gb available on the drive and there are no transitions between clips except for a dissolve on the intro and a fade out at the end.
Any advice is welcome and many thanks in advance.
Ali
G5 Imac Mac OS X (10.3.9)Thanks for an interesting idea but allas it didn't work !!
It wouldn't export the first raw footage sequence I exported without any transittions . So I then exported it a second time but with a cross disolve at the front and a fade out at the end and all was then fine. But with the raw footage 2 sequence I'm doing now I'm still getting the " general error" message even after this little trick.... and after your trick too........
Oh well thanks for the tip.
Ali
Doe FCE work ok with OSX Tiger 10.4 ? -
Now here's a poser - well for me anyway.
I've been trying to export a 96 min movie via Quicktime to iDVD but kept getting a "general error" message after about 82%. By trial and error I managed to identify a 5 min clip that was causing the problem but I have no idea why. Any suggestions ??
EwartThanks VJK. Actually the faulty clip and the one following both had the same subject material and the whole project is 16 bit.
I discovered that the fault was right at the end of the clip so it was simply a matter of snipping off a couple of seconds to rectify the problem. But I would still like to know what it actually was that stopped the 90 min vid exporting via QT.
Cheers

I'm getting a general error message then out of memory trying to add a new sequence
Anyone know how to fix?? i am getting a general error message and then out of memory when adding a new squence?? Help!
The General Error warning is usually associated with incompatible files.
Out of Memory can be caused by corrupted clips, incompatible files and still images that use a color mode other than RGB. -
I get a General Error message when I convert my film to Quicktime Movie.
I've compressed my film down to 24p etc etc. That worked fine. Before I did the compression there were some things I had to reconnect, did that, there was only one that didn't reconnect but the compression worked fine. Then I go to turn the film into a Quicktime Movie, I get to about 60% then I get a General Error message. Anyone have any ideas why thats happening?
Have you tried the compression with cinema tools?
make a quicktime movie of the stuff at 25 that you want to compress at 24 and go to cinema tools. make sure you create a new database at 24fps and try menu clip / comform. notice that cinema tools doesn't duplicate the clip, so it converts the one you are importing, make sure it is a copy of the original at 25 -
