Final Cut 7 migration to new iMac

I have Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 installed on my older Mac Tower. I recently bought an iMac and would like to move Final Cut to it. Both are running 10.6.8 however I'm getting and error when I attempt to open final cut on the new iMac.

Migrating Pro apps is never recommended, it is better to do a clean install from your original discs.
However, have you tried downloading Preference Manager (free) from
http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
and trashing your preferences?

  • Final cut studio 2 on new imac 24'' 2.8 GHz

    Hi,
I am, in the near future, starting wedding videography and my idea is to purchase Final Cut Studio 2 and the new imac 24" 2.8GHz with 4gb RAM and the 1TB hard drive.
My question is this, will this computer be powerful enough for me to run the Final Cut Studio "smoothly" while editing HD quality video?
My business will be based on this so i want to be sure!!!
    Thanks in advance!

I am, in the near future, < </div>
How do you communicate with us then?
Do not start your business based on a computer and a piece of software. Research the business first, then decide what you will need and then figure out a way to finance it. When you get down to starting your event photography business, the computer is going to be the smallest captial investment you make; do not scrimp on it.
The iMac will only satisfy your needs for a few months but it will do the job. You must also have printers, scanners, backup routines and external drives. Umm, insurance.

  • Installing Final Cut Express on a new iMac

I have been using Final Cut Express HS 3.5 since 2006.  My old iMac died, and in trying to reinstall the program on the new iMac, I am told that Power PC products are no longer supported.
Is there a workaround or solution?  I really don't want to buy the program all over again.

Here is the skinny on FCE 3.5 in Mavericks on your new iMac:
    1)  FCE 3.5 is a Universal app that will run on Intel Macs; it is not PowerPC and does not require Rosetta.  See:
    http://roaringapps.com/
    2)  Similar to FCP 6, there is a "bug" in the installer app that generates the "PowerPC" dialog box and prevents its installation in Mavericks.  Use one of these two methods to install FCE 3.5:
    A) Pacifist - http://www.charlessoft.com/
    B) Use the Terminal method described by Jeremy Johnstone on his blog:

Although this tutorial suggests creating a bootable drive with the OS installer on it, that's not necessary.  You can just create disk images as he describes and mount them.
I am not sure why you did not just post this tutorial instead of requesting me to describe a workflow.
In the time it took me to research a workflow for Pacifist for a link for the OP, it seems he spent 6 hours of wasted time.
    Michael:
Have you ever "uninstalled" Rosetta after installing it on a Lion or Mt. Lion Mac? and
I believe you told me earlier you do not use FCS2.  Is that correct and if so what is your connection to offering so much repeated installation advice about a product that you do not use yourself?
I note that I also do not use FCS2, but I am attempting to get a copy to attempt to implement the Jeremy Johnstone "Text Edit" solution (no dangers of using Terminal).  Unfortunately, all sources of purchasing a copy of FCS2 are just too expensive for me with no ultimate need for the program, after I figure out how to install it.
If you know of a copy of FCS2 that can be "lent" to me for "fair use" educational means of figuring out how to install it (and thereafter erasing that copy from my Mac), please let me know.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 to new iMac w Lion

Ok I'm seeing I might have an issue right from the start. I just bought a brand new iMac 27" loaded w RAM etc. Obviously it is running Lion and version 10.7.2. I did get Adobe M.C. up and running and all functioning seems fine.
Now I have a brand new Studio 2 with upgrade from my original FCStudio. That also got upgraded a few years back when I was on my G5.
I'd like to avoid nightmares so am asking advice -before I do anything to begin the installation of FCP and its Studio mates...
What do you suggest first... ? And will I need Java to begin?

  • Graphics card, Final Cut Pro on a new iMac

    Hi all,
I am planning to buy a iMac to edit some video. I've noticed you can choose between two graphics card,
NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 or ATI Radeon HD 4850. Which will be better for my case? Thanks in advance,
    Takeshi

Your answer is probably at http://www.barefeats.com/imac09.html
Especially as the 4850 is only $50 USD more.

  • Does Final Cut Express work on the iMac G5?

I just tried to put Final Cut Pro on a G5 iMac, but the error came up that it is missing a AGP card. Apparently the new iMac have an upgraded card that doesnt work wih the older software.
Does anyone know if the Final Cut Express HD work on a G5 iMac?

For a permanent solution to stop the error message ever appearing again you can use this hack:-
    1. Right click (Control-click) on the FCE application icon (NOT the one in the dock) and select "Show Package Contents".
    2. Open the "Contents" folder and double click the "info .plist". It should open automatically in TextEdit - if it doesn't, choose TextEdit manually.
    3. Around 15 or so lines down you will see AGP. Delete it and put in PCI.
    4. Close the window and when asked if you want to save the changes, say yes.

  • Migrate to new iMac from old iMac and am getting 'incompatible software' message.

Im trying to migrate to new iMac from old iMac and am getting 'incompatible software' message. I'm not sure what to do- can I revert back to snow leopard from mavericks?

    Hi Mark,
If you install Mavericks, or in your case migrate from an old computer running Snow Leopard (or an earlier version of Mac OS X) to one using Mavericks, some of your software that was designed to run on older computers may not function in the new OS. See this article -
OS X: About the incompatible software folder
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3258
    In particular -
If you see a message indicating that you can't use "this version" of an app, contact the software's vendor or visit their website to see if a later, compatible version of the app is available. If you purchased the software from the Mac App Store, use Software Update to see if an updated version is available there.
    and
During installation, OS X moves known-incompatible software to a folder named "Incompatible Software" at the top level of the startup drive. If this folder is present on your Mac, see what applications are in it, then check for available updates. To obtain a newer version of an Apple app, check the Mac App Store, or visit the Apple Store website.
Regarding installing an older operating system on your new iMac, Apple does not support doing this, as described in this article -
Don't install a version of Mac OS X earlier than what came with your Mac

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Can I download and use final cut pro 7 on new mac pro tower?,or I must work with the new final cut pro x only?

can I download and use final cut pro 7 on new mac pro tower?,or I must work with the new final cut pro x only?

Disclaimer: This response assumes that a "new mac pro tower" is the new cylindrical model.
    1. You cannot download Final Cut Pro 7. FCP7 is part of Final Cut Studio (2009) a.k.a "FCS3" and it was only released on a DVD set. It can still be purchased online (maybe even from Apple) for prices ranging from a few hundred to $1K and it is 5 years old and unsupported.
    2. Although there are reports of systems running FCS3 on Mavericks, there are also a host of problems associated with this OS/software combination.
    3. A new version of iMovie Pro Final Cut Pro X has been released which is reportedly very fast and is supported.
It's all a matter of what kind of movies you make...

  • After Migration to new iMac, old Photoshop won't launch

I used the Migration Assistant in Firewire Target Disk Mode to transfer my old Apps and files and folders from my intel Macbook to my new 24" iMac. I had to do it several times since it transferred Applications okay, and all the folders, but the folders were empty on the new machine. I finally had to drag and drop the contents of most folders. Everything seems to be working okay now except for one glaring failure. My old Photoshop 7.0.1, which was working just fine in Rosetta on the Macbook, no longer works at all. It will not even launch. I get an error message that due to an "unrecoverable error" in programming, Photoshop will close now, almost as soon as it tries to start. I have a number of other Power PC applications (even Adobe ones) of similar vintage that are working just fine. I tried reinstalling the Application entirely (still have all my old Apps!), but it had no effect on the failure to launch. I checked with Adobe and they declined to support such an old version. Any ideas on what could be causing this that I might check? Having blown all my money on the new iMac I really cannot afford to purchase a new Photoshop right now.

Photoshop 7 is not compatible with Mac OS 10.5 and Adobe offers no fix. You'll need to upgrade.

  • Final Cut Pro HD on my imac G5

I just bought an iMac G5 (iSight) and I found out Final Cut Pro HD is not running. The system is asking for an AGP GRAPHICS CARD. Has anybody experienced this? Do I have to get an extra Graphics Card? Is not enought with the iMac hardware itself as it comes? Its gonna be an extra $300 for a new AGP card, and...is it gonna be attachable? I have no Idea. Tnxs for any information.

First off, the iMac G5 does not have an upgradeable graphics card, nor is one attachable. Only PowerMac G5s and Powerbooks with Cardbus/PCMCIA slots can have a different graphics card attached.
    Secondly, according to:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/motion/specs.html
    These are the recommended cards:
    ATI Radeon X850 XT
    ATI Radeon X800 XT
ATI Radeon X600 XT or X600 Pro
ATI Radeon 9800 XT or 9800 Pro
    ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
ATI Radeon 9600 XT or 9600 Pro
    ATI Mobility Radeon 9700
    ATI Mobility Radeon 9600
    NVIDIA GeForce Quadro FX 4500
    NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 and 6600 LE
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL or 6800 GT DDL
NVIDIA GeForce Go5200 or FX 5200 Ultra
    According to:
    http://www.apple.com/imacg5/specs.html
ATI Radeon X600 XT with 128MB DDR SDRAM
is included. So it would appear your graphics card is supported. The problem may be in the amount of physical RAM in your machine, or a need to repair permissions prior to installation. Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility allows you to repair permissions.
I doubt with a new machine that any preferences are corrupted this early in the game, though you may have a hardware issue preventing you from using the software. You may be able to detect hardware issues with the restore disk that came with your machine marked hardware test, bootable much the same as the Powerbook's hardware test volume is here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86287
Run the extended test if nothing else appears to work.
There is also the Final Cut Pro forum here which more people may have suggestions. You may also need an upgrade to the latest Final Cut HD to run on that operating system from http://www.apple.com/swupdates/
