Final cut causes mac pro to crash
Hi, I have been editing hd footage on my macpro, which is only two months old, and it can't handle final cut pro or motion. It crashes constantly when ever I try to play the timeline back. The timeline is set to safeRT and it is always rendered.
Is there somthing wrong with my mac or is there somthing that I have not configured?
try the time tested method of trashing preferences
try these
FCP rescue
FCP Attic
un YASU to purge your system from tme to time
also make sure your sequence settings match your capture presets, and your hard drive (external to your system HD I hope) is not too full (80% capacity at most)
hope that may help

Why does Final Cut cause a hard system crash after upgrading computer's memory?
2x2.8 gHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon MacPro that orginally came with 2gBs of memory. We upgraded to 4gBs of memory by adding 2 1gB ram chips. Ever since, Final Cut Pro has been causing hard system crashes. Does anybody have an idea why this is happening?
Installing memory is very specific
the correct type of DIMMs must be installed in the correct slots dependant on the type of processor fitted
install exactly as per the Mac Pro guidelines here:
Mac Pro Memory DIMM Instalation
you will have to reload the web page a few times after the page warning to down load correctly (command R)
if it is per the instructions and your having trouble, the DIMMs are most likely faulty -
USB causes Mac Pro to crash.
Hi Guys,
I've got a MacPro1,1, I have an issue with the USB on it. Now and again, when ever I eject my USB it totally locks my Mac Pro up and I have to cold reboot it (I.E turn the power off). The USB was formatted with the Mac file system, and I always make sure I eject it before removing. It's at the point of removal that it crashes.
Anyone else had this before?
Cheers,
Matt.Do you get any information about the crash....if you open up console and look in System Diagnostic Reports is there a Kernel Crash corresponding to the date?
I've not used an external card nor can I offer help interpreting logs but you might narrow it down to the sound card driver if that file appears somewhere in there. -
Mac Pro keeps crashing while sleeping.
MacPro3,1 Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 2.8 GHz, 6 GB running OSX 10.10.1
Mac Pro keeps crashing while sleeping. Just did a clean install of Yosemite so not a lot of extras loaded on this machine.
Crash log is below, can anyone help?

Thunderbolt Bus:The panic was caused by the MAXPower device or its software, maybe with help from one or more of the other third-party system modifications you've installed.
First check the manufacturer's website for an update. If there is none, or if it doesn't help, I suggest you remove the device, back up all data, and then remove the software according to the manufacturer's instructions. Reboot and see whether there's an improvement. If there isn't, post another panic report. -
Final Cut For Mac os X PowerPC 10.4.11
Hello
I am looking for Final Cut (Dosent matter Version or what kind of Final Cut) for Mac Os X PowerPC Version 10.4.11 is there any which I can buy
Thanks PwNThere is a big inconsistency in the information you provide. You say 10.4.11 PowerPC, but your hardware is described as a "Mac Pro", which certainly is NOT a PowerPC machine. If you indeed have a Mac Pro, then, depending on the model, you'll get more options if you first update the OS to at least Snow Leopard.
Even if you do have a PowerPC mac, then your choices of OS end at Leopard (10.5), and your choices of software are much more limited.
I think you'd need to go Final Cut Express 3 or older, and Final Cut Pro 6 or older (FCP 6 requires 10.5); newer versions were all Intel only. -

machine-check is a Hardware problem. Memory problems often show error code 4 or 5, and are detected by MULTIPLE Processors at once. (a software problem would panic-out ONE Processor, and would not say Machine-check.
The Xeon Processor with Error Correcting Code memory on the Mac Pro stores additional bits with each word in memory, carefully computed so that if the word is read back with one bit wrong, the errant bit can be corrected by Hardware with essentially no slowdown. A background task collects and tabulates the error occurrences, and they can be read back using the STATIC display shown below.
Uncorrectable errors are detected, but most of these cannot be corrected, so your Mac will halt with a kernel panic, machine check detected by multiple processors. This is by design, to avoid poisoning your data.

So go about your usual work. From Time-to-Time, re-invoke or Refresh this display. The first modules to show up with errors are BAD, and any filled slots that show as "empty" had errors during the power-on self test, and are also BAD. -
What file type to export vid from final cut to studio pro
Beginner here, the question I have is what is the best file format to export from final cut to studio pro so that I will play in a decent to good quality on a DVD that I make in studio pro. Thanks.
For my FCS projects, I export DV_NTSC "anamorphic" (I use 16:9 format) to a "reference" movie: that is quite fast after all rendering is completed and the resulting file is pretty small. The only disadvantage to "reference" I've found is that you must keep all those FCS file around since those are what is referenced by the export.
I export like that instead of exporting to compressor because for me, exporting directly to compressor is very slow; on my G5 Quad, my compression step is about 1:1 with real time.
You can take those .mov files into DVDSP and let it do the compression using your defaults. I prefer to use Compressor directly so I can set the compression, Dolby, etc. parameters. Compress to mpeg2 and AC3 (Dolby Digital) and if you are just in stereo, just keep it in stereo, check the "no surround encoding" and make sure the highest audio level in either channel is -3db (or the compressor setting let you reduce the level by 3db). That prevents a downmix to mono (like on a cheap TV) from clipping (-3db + -3db = 0db. (zero plus zero = +3db and is clipping).

New mac pro, CS5 crashes, where to start?
I have a new mac pro which crashes daily while using After Effects (and photoshop). I've seen some indication that this could be a driver issue with the 2 nvidia cards that came preinstalled, or an Adobe issue. Running 10.6.4 Snow Leopard. I can recreate this sometimes by scrubbing the after effects timeline with a spotlight casting a shadow on another layer. The system locks up, left monitor flashes black and I have to hard rest. This is super frustrating, apple has twice told me it's Adobe, but I don't know. All I do know as a business owner is that I'm $13,000 invested in hardware / software that don't seem to work together and I don't have many other options as this is what i do for living. Any thoughts at all? Anyone have any ideas?

scottFor sure it is really frustrating, especially when you convinced the company you work with to switch from FCP to CS5...
I have the same problem with a Mac Pro bought in April and a GTX 280... We were pretty happy with Premiere Pro, when editing a feature shot on RED 4K HD. It is the more stable release of that soft I ever seen, and I'm using it since Premiere 5.1 and the mini-DV.
But I'm disappointed by After Effect, which use to be alway stable in the previous version I used. We're working on a 3300$ computer, using a 450$ graphic card, and the two Samsung monitors keep flashing before AFX craches... That happen every 15 minutes.
The GeForce driven is updated. We have also a Geforce GT 120 in the Mac Pro, to plug a Wacom Cintiq 12WX on it... The screen of the wacom doesn't flash when it happens to the Samsungs, that's why I'm thinking of an issue involving the GTX 280. Anyway, nVidia does not provide any driver for Mac for the GT 120...
So it's probably more a graphic card issue, than a software one... But if someone has any other idea to get rid of this problem (unactivate open GL does not change the problem)... ?
Thanks in advance for who may help... -
Final Cut 7: Apple Pro Res Export Drops In File Size?
Hello all. We are noticing a 30% drop in file size when, after importing a 5-minute Apple Pro Res HQ file into Final Cut and performing minor editing (essentially removing a few frames from the ends), the resulting export (also Pro Res 422 HQ) is noticeably smaller, going from roughly 2.5 GB at the start to 1.7 GB at the end. Has anyone seen this? Is this normal? Does it affect file quality? If so, is there a workaround? Thanks for any and all help!
Sequence and imported clip settings both match and are at the highest quality. The original file was captured from a BetaSP into Final Cut as a Pro Res 422 HQ via a Sony DVW-A500 deck. Those numbers suggest the possibility that you captured 29.97 and exported 23.98. Any chance that's the case?

Why every time I connect my speaker to line out cause system freeze/crash?
But if using internal speaker, there is no problem.

So I have to reboot manual with holding power button, but cannot load osx (blank screen), I try to hold smc reset button, don't work too.
So I unplug and plug the memory raiser, so finally everything back to normal. It can loading osx snow leopard normally.
So what is the problem?
Thank you,
DavidIt's a hardware fault. I suggest you make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have it tested. It's a free service. The repair won't be free, but if it's something simple, such as a bad memory module, you may be able to fix it yourself.
-
This has happened at least 50 times since I installed 10.0.6 I've done a complete reinstall following Apples directions but the problem persists. I'm using a 17" MacBook Pro 2.66 i7, 8 gigs of Ram, OS 10.7.5. My projects consist of 2 to 3 Terabytes of media. This is just one of a myriad of problems I'm having with this release. I'm in the middle of 3 large projects and the crashes are literally costing me 1000's of dollars. How do computer companies get away with releasing seriously flawed products without any accountability. If a car company did this they'd be facing law suits right and left.
Try hiding your projects and events. If the app opens, move the projects amd events back to their normal location until one causes it to crash – hence identifying the problem.
If it still crashes go to your home library>FInal Cut Pro ad trash the Layouts folder. Final Cut will re-built it when you next open it.

Final Cut, Quicktime, and Pro Tools conflicts
Hi there,
I'm working on a "situation" I recently encountered, and wonder if anybody else has had this problem.
I'm trying to upgrade Pro Tools LE to version 6.9.2 with the install discs that were sent to me from Digidesign, and it's wreaking havoc with Final Cut Pro and Quicktime.
Initially when I installed the upgrade, I was running OSX 10.4.2, FCP 5.0.3 and QT 7.0.2. The Pro Tools upgrade worked fine, as did FCP when I launched it, but Quicktime wouldn't launch- spinning beachball forevermore.
So after doing all the basics- trashing pref's and render files, repairing permissions, etc.- and finding QT still wouldn't work, I tried upgrading to QT 7.0.3.
Once I did that, QT still wouldn't work, and Final Cut Pro would no longer launch. It just hung on the application startup screen, at no particular point each time.
I then upgraded to FCP 5.0.4, and as well OS 10.4.3. No luck. I installed the Pro Application Support updates 2005-02 1.0, and 3.1, and still no luck.
Since there is not yet a downgrade from QT 7.0.3 to 7.0.2, I ran the 7.0.2 to 7.0.1 installer, and downgraded to QT 7.0.1. QT still wouldn't launch, and FCP still hung on launch but this time it hung at the point where it was loading audio filters.
I tried removing the audio filters from their folders to see if it would launch then, but that didn't work. At this point, the only thing I could think to do was to uninstall Pro Tools altogether (safe uninstall, not clean uninstall) and this is what finally brought Quicktime and Final Cut back to life. Great, because I use FCP and QT everday, but I no longer have the use of Pro Tools.
Throughout this process I made sure to diligenty repair permissions, trash prefs, and restart whenever I made a change.
So I'm not sure at this point how to get Pro Tools LE 6.9.2, Final Cut Pro 5.0.4, and Quicktime (any version above 7.0) to work harmoniously, and I'm unable to spare any more troubleshooting time for a week or so because there are of course, projects due.
Has anybody else encountered these oddities?
Thanks a lot,
JoniHi, Joni C
I'm Bump,
I'm having the same trouble, I have FCP I'm running it on a G5 power Mac dual 2.5 ghz with 2.5 gb of memory, my os is 10.4.4. I also have Quicktime pro 7.0.3 and I have Pro Tools LE 7.0, every time I try to use FCP it starts and about five sec. later it shuts back down. I also have a Universal Audio UAD pci card that runs audio plugins and I also have fxpansion program it converts my vst & Au plugins to rtas for pro tools le. IBefore I installed FCP I wiped my hard drive and re installed a fresh version of tiger 10.4 and then I installed FCP studio, then Pro Tools, then all plugin and kept checking to make sure every thing was working correctly and then the U audio stuff with the Vst to rtas wrapper and it all was working fine. I even did the full final cut tutorial still worked fine. Yesterday out of no where final cut just stop working and still all the other programs work fine like dvd studios, soundtrack, motion, pro tools. If you can shead any light on this I would be very greatful

Mac Pro keeps crashing when using with KVM. where to start my investigation
hi guys.
i have recently ordered ATEN CS-1762 KVM switch (2 ports model) to control my Mac and PC with a single keyboard and mouse. This KVM supports USB and DVI. the problem i have is Mac crashing when i switch from PC. I contacted mfg lately and they are unaware of this issue due to not having Mac Pro to test with this appliance. They have tested it with Mac Mini, G4 and G5 though and all was OK. based on this they put a description that this box is compatible with Mac. Anyway, being relatively new Mac user i ask for your help.
here are my steps and some ATEN's thoughts:
1. accroding to ATEN tech support, i should power up my second computer after the first one was started and is running. firstly i start the Mac Pro, 5 mins after that i power up my PC.
2. When both computers are up and running (Mac is in KVM focus), i switch to PC and all seems OK. I have noticed though that if NumLock is activated during the PC session, I won't be able to switch back to Mac. However, even though NumLock is OFF i still may have troubles when switching back to Mac. So it is not the rule, but maybe the clue to start with..

1. if i start PC first, Mac won't start at all. The power led will be on, but there will be no picture on the monitor and it won't accept any keyboard/mouse inputs as well as it will be network inaccessible.
2. I tried looking into Mac's logs but need your help in getting this clear.
here is the log. as you will see it stops at 13:04 and then continues at 13:08 after reboot.
i've seen some parallel's VMs but i don't have Parallels installed. i used to have it, but then it never happened to work so i deleted it from the machine. can this be the case it is still somewhere?
pls guys, any thoughts are very welcome!!!
PS: i can cause Mac to crash the same way if necessary or if log looks inclomplete. the thing forgot to mention is: when Mac crashes and i reboot it, it will not necessarily boot up completely. i've noticed that i would have to reset the KVM switch prior to Mac's successful start up. so maybe i copied the wrong log (not the one immediately after the crash). pls advise here
Alex

Kernel version:
Darwin Kernel Version 8.9.1: Thu Feb 22 20:55:00 PST 2007; root:xnu-792.18.15~1/RELEASE_I386ok so i experimented a little with the hardware and here what i have to the moment:
1. i thought that the usb kb could be the case for mac os to crash so i disconnected the cable from the KVM and plugged normal apple kb to the mac.
2. however when i tried switching back to mac, the machine crashed again.
from what i noticed for the last few days 'working' with this kvm switch was the screen resolution changing while i was switching. meaning the screen flickered for couple of times prior to showing 1280x1024 that was set up in the system. during flickering the resoution became 1024x768. i 've seen it pretty clearly, just it was for half of a second.
also when powering up both machines, they were starting with 1024x768 and not 1280x1024 as was set up. i had to manually change the screen resolution on both machines (pc and mac) every time after successful start up.
so by far my understanding is that kvm switch forces monitor for 1024x768 during switches and on start up. it also causes the OSes (win2K and MacOSX) to lose 1280x1024 and accept 1024x768 as if the monitor was changed and couldn't operate at a higher resolution.
having said that i uploaded this info to kvm mfg (ATEN) and couple more mac forums so that this info may help someone else when ordering a kvm for mac. at the same time i am still open for any thoughts, advices and crazy ideas to get round this bug.

Mac pro keeps crashing/weird colours/unable to reset/wont boot
Hello. First some info. I have had my mac pro for 18 months. I am running OP system X 10.5.8. I have four 256mb ramss instaled(from purchase) and 250G hardrive.
Now for 17 months, everything has run fine. Until one day after switching accounts, I noticed weird red lines accross the screen and I could not click on anything. I had to use the power button to reboot and then everything went fine until the next morning, after logging in, I got the red/pink lines accross the screen again and I was unable to click on anything.
This problem went on for about a week but then things got worst. I was having to use the power button upto 4 times because when i tried to boot, it was stuck on a blue screen. This then became 6 times after a short while more.
Before long, i was at the stage where i would click on my account to log in and the screen would just freaze. After several reboots, i was able to get onto the account but the computer then began crashing(with the spinning colour wheel in the middle of the screen) and i could click on nothing.
I was thinking that my computer needed warming up or something but today, it has gone one step too far. Ive spent about an hour trying to get it on but everytime i click itunes/safari etc, i just get a frozen screen, often with weird colours. My computer is making horrible noises(like its downloading a song, if you get me) that do not go away.
Now, ive done a hardware test and an extended hardware test but nothing came up. I attempted to re-install the operating system but that ended up crashing just like my computer does.
For some reason however, i have booted in safe mode and there is not a single problem with anything. I can click on itunes etc etc and nothing crashes.
I have apple care, what do you think i should do now? Could it still be a hardware problem? How do i find out if it is a software error?
Any help would be fantasticmilesmartin, did you ever resolve this issue?
I find myself in almost the same situation. I have a Mac Pro using OS 10.6.1 with 9gb RAM and three hard drives. This happened suddenly at a cold startup for me. The strange red/pink lines, mouse not responding, etc. I could do a hard restart (power off) and the problem seemed to go away. I have tried many tests with TechTool Pro and the Apple hardware disk. All test show no problems with hardware. I have installed clean systems on a new hard drive several times including going back to OS 10.5. Each cold restart brings the same freeze, strange graphic displays. I reset the SMU, purged the PRAM, replace the battery, pulled/replaced all RAM modules, tried starting from the OS install disk. So far, nothing helps.
At the start of this problem, I could do a boot in safe mode. Now, nothing works and it may take 4 or 5 restarts to get the system up and running. This is most unacceptable and probably stresses the components in ways that will eventually cause a failure.
I am out of ideas today and it is no longer fun. Any help? -
Final Cut suite programs and Aperture crashing on launch
Hi there!
This is the first time i write on the official Apple support forums so i hope this is the right section. Here's the deal; yesterday morning i've updated my Mac(the automatic update popped out on its own) and it added the App Store, i rebooted the system when asked and though everything went fine.
After that all my Final Cut applications couldn't load. The very first problem i had since the update was with Aperture. I've downloaded the trial and it started to crash while loading.
I've then tried to open Final Cut, Motion, Color, Compressor and every other program of that suite and it crashed too while opening, seeming to load forever.
I've never had problems with that programs(i've used FCP and Motion the day before), i've got enough space on my hdd(18gb or more) and i've also tried to reset all the preferences with the *Preference Manager*.
I need that programs for school and now none of them works..what should i do? I don't have Time Machine setted up to restore the system and i don't want to reinstall the system.
What should i do then?It works! Thanks a lot
As you said Spotlight won't work anymore now but i can do my homework and continue my personal project now, hope to hear from Apple an official solution or at least someone to tell us what the problem is.

Another thing, do you also experience the crashes when downloading free apps from the App Store or that's another story?
