Final Cut doesn´t start
Hi:
I´ve recently purchased Final Cut Studio (FC Pro-7-0). So I´m new in this matter. After installing the product in my I-Mac, I created a Project and captured some miniDV tapes and even started editing a little bit. It seemed to be working perfectly, but today I can´t open FC. The message below appears on screen:
External A/V
Unable to locate the following external devices:
Apple Firewire PAL (720 x 576)
Your system configuration may have changed, or your deck/camera may be disconnected or turned off.
Please, check your connections and click “Check again”, or click “Continue” to set external devices to None.
If I click "Check again" I get to the same point and if I click "Continue" the FC icon dissappears and the software doesn´t start.
Do you know how to solve this inconvinience? Thanks a lot.
Deleting FCP Preferences:
Open a Finder window. Set the view mode to columns:
Click the house icon that has your name next to it.
Click the folder "Library" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Preferences" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Final Cut Pro User Data" in the next column.
Move the files "Final Cut Pro 7.0 Prefs", "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" and "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache" to the Trash and empty it.
When you have a stable set of preference files, download [Preference Manager|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] to back them up.

My Final Cut works perfect sice a starded used 2005, never i have a one problem.
But last week i discover this:
When a copy any files between macs over a network the final cut doesn`t play in the sequence. nothing happening. but if i stop copy in the finder, it ok, everything back normal again.
I try using a project over a network and its perfect, fine.
only if i copy anything in the finder and final cut doesnt play.
Guys, anyone have this problem? Its normal?

Ps.: I have two imac i7 and this two have same problem.I hope i understand you right.
when you copy a file from one network to another sometimes the file paths are lost. Like if you have a drive called FCP HDD on one cpu and FCP HDD3 on another. The original path is associated to the copied files on FCP HDD drive and not the FCP HDD3 drive so a path would be lost there.
If you are connected via gigabyte ethernet cable and the imacs are synced then there would only be a latency problem as the gigabyte ethernet is slower than sata and FW 400 or 800.
If you are just coping the source media (meaning the files you captured from the cam) then all of your paths will be new based on the place you copied them too.
so if i have a project like 'My Commercial' and that is the name of the project file then it is it own project. The media within that project is associated to which ever drive you put it on.
If i move the project to another computer then the media is not there.
Why? Because the project is looking for the name of the original drive which may not exist on the imac you moved the project too. Unless you have a server.
Also, Even if you do move the media files to the drive that IS connected to the new computer the drive is most likely to have a different path for the media.
What you want is to connect the 2 cpus in a way that allows drive sharing.
Do you get the red 'Media Offline" error in the timeline? -
I created the XML file in Adobe Priemer Pro. Final Cut doesn't see this file. The file in the list not the active. Prompt please.
The XML format Premiere uses is not supported in FCPX. The only way I know of that may work is to go through FCP7 and then use 7toX to get to FCPX.

I can't connect my camera to my Mac tower - final cut doesn't recognize the connection.
I have a Canon AH X1 video camera which uses the older 6 pin firewire - I have a 6 pin to 9 pin adapter, but when I connect the camera and go to Capture and Log, it doesn't recognize the camera is connected. Even when I click NOW, it does nothing. My camera output settings have been set by the manual for this type of connection, HD and downgrade OFF, or something like that (don't have the camera in front of me this moment). Any ideas?

When I start up Final Cut Pro, it says

Please check your connections and click "Check Again" , or click "Continue" to set external device detection to None.
Then, when I go to Log and Capture, I get:
Unable to initialize video deck. You may still log offline clips or use Capture Now.
Beneath that, "Initializing Device Control..." stays up and frozen.
THEN, if I click OK and Capture NOW, I get a quick flash of a screen that disappears, and nothing happens.

Final Cut won't start sometimes, says I need a quartz extreme video card
Even though I have a quartz extreme capable video card and use Final Cut studio all the time, sometimes an error message will pop up and won't let me load any final cut application. The message is "Final cut pro recommends that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
I've tried deleting the preferences, and then running applejack. Sometimes it works, but right now I can't get it to load. I'm not even sure where to start troubleshooting this. Any advice would be much appreciated.
My software is all up to date.No, I have FCE 4 - should have said that - and it worked on my older Intel based MacBook Pro.
As it turns out, though, I think I've solved the problem, adapting a solution to a related problem I found on MacRumors.com. Don't know why this is necessary, but here's the solution I tried:
1. right click on the FCE application icon and select "Show Package Contents"
2. open the "Contents" folder and then open the "info.plist" folder in Text Edit
3. find the line that says: "<key>AELMinimumQuartzExtremeCapable</key>," and replace it with "<key>AELMinimumGeForceCapable</key>", and then make sure that the next line says "<string></string>" without any number specified. Or, if you have some other kind of graphics card that you know is compatible, you could say what that is instead of GeForce. I found it doesn't work just to delete this line completely.
Again, I don't know why Apple didn't build in this flexibility when they updated their standard Graphics cards, but in any case this solution seems to work. -

Since I took my Imac into be repaired Final Cut has ceased to work. Everytime I try to start it up I just get the message: "The Application Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly".
The error message in report says this:

I also use Logic and have tried removing the plugins from the folder as suggested on another thread but still no luck.

I have noticed someone suggesting deleting a file from the "Final Cut Pro User Data" and have realised that i have no such folder !!!!
I had installed FinalCutExpress until recently which I completely erased using the FinalCut Remover tool and installed Final Cut from scratch but still no luck.
The message I get all the time at the end of the error log is...

Final Cut doesn't work with Yosemite!!?
Hi there, anyone who could help me with this problem would be greatly praised, as I am really inexperienced with tech and stuff because I'm only 15 and I made maybe a not-so-great decision
So, I bought a 2010 iMac off craigslist which had FCPX on it already (Final Cut is the software I use most often), and I had it on Mountain Lion, and it ran perfectly. However, I decided to upgrade to Yosemite, and now Final Cut has a line through it and when I click on it a message says "You can’t use this version of the application “Final Cut Pro” with this version of OS X" and there's no "update" button, only a button that says I have to buy it again (but I already bought it!!)
I emailed the person I bought it from asking for her Apple ID so I could look through the purchases and click "Install" or "Update" or whatever it says beside the FCPX button, but under Purchases I didn't find it, and when I emailed her back she said "Oh, I'm pretty sure when I bought it Final Cut Pro came installed on it already so I didn't have to use my Apple ID to buy it". So evidently I got it from her, in turn she got it from the one person who bought it, but I don't have this person's Apple ID so I can update it.
I'm really sorry if this does't make any sense, but I'm at my wits' end because I don't want to pay $300 for another copy of Final Cut! Maybe there is some way I can upgrade it, or failing that would it be possible to retain all my files yet downgrade back to Mountain Lion?

DOwnding grading the OS is difficult. First you need a back up of your existing drive that has the user informatiion. You then need another computer or drive that has Mountain Lion installed that you can boot from together with a ML installer. You can then boot off the drive, erase your Yosemite drive, and reinstall Mountain Lion. -
Final Cut doesn't see camera? Please help!!
So i'm opening final cut and i have my camera turned on and plugged up, but it says it can't see it. System Profiler sees it, as well as iMovie. Is there something i have set wrong? I've deleted preferances and everything. It just won't see the camera. the strangest thing was i got it to control the camera but, there was still no video when i would log and capture.
can anyone help?

Trying to run FC5, and it will not startup. I have been using it for a couple months, but now it wont start up for some reason. I think it started after I changed the capture destination. It tries to start, even asks if a firewire device is connected, but it just poof goes away when I click on "continue". Ran disk utility, re-installed FC5, neither effective. Any help out there?
I'm having the same trouble. It started this morning. I'd already worked a bit on FC5 and quit. When I came back later and tried to open the same file, the typical splash page with all the start up routine ran and then, poof, I'm back in Finder.
Tried starting the program direcly as well as by double clicking differenet FC5 files. Same thing.
Finally gave up and tried to reinstall just the FCP. Same thing. Then removed FC5 Studio from the machine and reinstalled. Same thing.
I'm stumped and I've got deadlines breathing down my neck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. -
I have been trying to move FCE clips and sequences between two computers using an exterior hard drive. I was doing ok until FCE quit on the second computer. I must have messed something up because when I try to open the program it starts as usual for about 2 seconds then quits--I see the opening window and even see part of the program start to load...but then nothing, not even a dialog box telling it quit unexpectedly. I'm moving the material from a Macbook Pro using 10.5.8 to an Imac running 10.4.11. Would that play any part? Any ideas? Thanks.
The phrasing of your last sentence suggests you did not install FCE from a DVD. If you didn't it is highly likely that it is incorrectly installed.
If this is so, run http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm to completely remove all traces before reinstalling properly. -
When I try to move anything or edit inside of the program it simply shuts down. I have no idea why or how to fix it.
For a start try trashing the preferences.
Many weird things happen as a result of corrupt preferences which can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be the first thing you do using this free app.

Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
1. Ensure that only FCP X is selected.
2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.
There is absolutely no danger in trashing preferences and you can do it as often as you like.
The preferences are kept separately from FCP X and if there aren't any when FCP X opens it automatically creates new ones . . . instantly. -
I just loaded tiger now final cut doesn't work
It says that the system memory must be low when I launch the program. There are no other programs open and it does this off a fresh restart.
Another thing to note is that I also just installed a second hard drive, the drive that I transfered my aplications and os(tiger).
Are there compatability issues I'm dealing with? What's going on? I'm stumped.Are you saying you transferred your apps rather than doing a fresh install of each one? That's a no-no. Delete them and install instead. The apps need to live in the Applications folder on the boot volume, without any renaming whatsoever. Any other arrangement is asking for problems.

Final Cut not starting up on new computer
I recently had my computer stolen. I had installed final cut hd on that computer which was stolen. I replaced the computer and installed Final Cut Express HD on the new one.
Now, when I try to open final cut express, it starts to open, and then it stops and does not open.
Can anyone advise me on what to do?

Adobe Reader shows in control panel programs as 7.0.5 and XI, but is not on All Programs from start menu nor on my desk top or as a newly installed program. I have no way to click onto an icon to reach file. This has been very very very frustrating.
