Final Cut Express 2 - 10.6 compatible?

I'm looking to get Final Cut Express used. I've found a decent deal on a full FCE 2 install with FCE 4 upgrade. My question is, can I install FCE2 on 10.6?

FCE 2 isn't compatible but FCE 4 is. If you have a legitimate copy of both, you shouldn't need to install version 2. But you will need to enter the serial number from version 2 when prompted during the install process for the upgrade to FCE 4.

  • Lion an Final Cut Express : are they 100 % compatible?, Lion an Final Cut Express : are they 100 % compatible?

I have not yet installed the news OS. Before, I need to know if it si 100 % ok for Final Cut express?
Thanks in advance for you answer.

I'm currently using FCE 4.0.1 and no issues. However it wont work properly right off the bat after you upgrade so you'll have to delete the program and reinstall it from your disk.  The only wierd thing is I'm missing about 10 or so filters I had before which may be due to the os but for me its still not much of an issue. They aren't any of the major filters that most users will need every day.

  • Final Cut Express 2 and Lion?

    Hi,
I have some thoughts on FCE2 (2.0.2) and the Lion. Is it fully compatible or is it recommended that I buy Final Cut X in the App Store? I am interested in buying a new MacBook Pro 13-inchand need to know about my Final Cut Express 2 is fully compatible.
    Thanks in advance.

Have been trying out FCX over the past month or so and not only is there key framing capability, but I would say its key framing techniques are more intuitive and the results superior to the legacy FCE and FCP.
I think I pretty much agree with Ian Brown's views on the new program.  The majority of FCE (and probably FCS) users should find that FCX is more of an opportunity than a limitation to their creativity. It's different and requires an adjustment to our thinking, but most of us can get the hang of the new approach and terminology (which I am Not a fan of) in short order. (That's not to say that I don't agree with much of the criticism from the film & broadcast people, because I do.)

  • What's a camcorder that's compatible with Final Cut Express

I just got final cut express and I am looking for a camcorder from $200 to $400 that's compatible with it. I don't know much about camcorders, and some simple straightforward suggestions would be much appreciated Thanks!

Would you like to use tape or a tapeless storage variety?
Tape cameras are miniDV or HDV, both work fine with FCE. HDV may well be out of the price range.
A base model AVCHD camera (tapeless) will also be fine.
Note: Standard AVCHD is OK but many cameras use variants like AVCHD Lite. Read the fine print.

  • Final Cut Express 4 compatible with iMovie '06 HD items?

Am considering buying Final Cut Express 4 but already have some projects in iMovie '06 HD. Are these two compatible? I don't have any plans to upgrade to iMovie '08 or '09.

    Are these two compatible?
Sort of. You can export iMovie content in a QuickTime format that's native to FCE, but the two programs' native file structure is different. FCE separates audio and video; iMovie mixes the two together into what's called a DV Stream.

  • Soundtrack Pro compatible with Final Cut Express?

I have Final Cut Express 4 installed and installed Logic Studio. Soundtrack Pro and Compressor did not install. Are these programs not compatible with FC Express?

    From the Apogee website:
"Duet features two superb microphone inputs, each with phantom power and up to 75dB of gain. With Duet, you can record a pristine vocal track while playing your guitar or keyboard, stereo mic your acoustic or even capture a live concert."
    http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/duet.php
It's ideal target audience would be laptop users in need of a high-quality, but very portable audio interface for Logic.

  • Final Cut Express & Sony DCR DVD-405 Compatible?

    Long story short . . .
Received a gift "Sony DCR DVD-405" (uses USB, NOT firewire) with intention of home video and family use. Happy with iMovie. No need for more.
    But . . .
It is a major pain in the butt to get iMovie & camera to talk. Bought two 3rd party applications and still not happy.
Will Final Cut Express work smoothly with this camera or should I Craigslist it and buy a Sony HC96?
I will have access to Final Cut Express for free through work in the Fall.
    Jeremy

Will Final Cut Express work smoothly with this camera or should I Craigslist it and buy a Sony HC96?
The 405 is a camera that produces Mpeg 2 files and that means no direct working with FCE, third party conversions required.
The HC96, being a Mini DV camera, will fit like a glove.
FCE works with DV, HDV or AVCHD (version 4 only using Intel chip Mac)

  • Compatible HD movie camera for final cut express

I am in the unenviable position of having a ten year old who is savvy in Final Cut (has used it on a friends computer) and has now begged for the program for his birthday (this week). So I bought the program but now his camera has broken - can someone please please recommend a relatively cheap HD recorder that would work with final cut express (something under 500 pounds would be awesome ie under 700 USD) - finding the info online not all that helpful and have been to Apple store in London and NY! to ask which camera they would rec. but they cant recommend one (brand favourite). Be so grateful if you could help.

Hi and welcome to the forum!
The only HD formats FCE supports are HDV and AVCHD. You should be able to find middle-end models of both for under 500 pounds. I'd recommend asking your son whether he prefers the idea of the traditional tape based camcorder (in this case HDV) or wants a hard drive based camera (AVCHD). Both will work fine with FCE, and you could then do a quick and easy search on the website of your preferred manufacturer (Canon, Sony, Panasonic, etc.) or visit a local store to pick out one that works with your budget.
I could arbitrarily choose a camera for you to purchase, but without knowing your needs it really would be better for you to use this information to pick out one that you like. Just be careful - if you do go for AVCHD make sure the camcorder is actually AVCHD, and not a variant like AVCHD Lite or AVCCAM. Only pure DV, HDV, and AVCHD will work with FCE.

  • Is iDVD compatible with quicktime movies from Final Cut Express 4?

I am trying to find out if iDBD can be used with Final Cut Express 4 output or is it just for imovie?  If it can be used with FCE4 what is the extension.  Thank you.

    Hi
Yes - IF YOU DO IT RIGHT.
    FCE/P to iDVD
    Several things
    • How to go from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Free space on Start-up hard disk
    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used
    • Burn speed set
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    Burn speed set
    • I set down this to x4 (or x1)
    iDVD BUG
    • One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
    of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
    Use of Chapters
    • I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
    • NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
    • No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this eg .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving

i've been running FCE HD 3.5 on my MacBook since i got it in November '06. runs okay for the few short SD projects(15:00) or less i've put together.

  • Can I open a Final Cut Express HD 3.5 project in Final Cut Pro 5.04?

    Hello,
I've been working on a new project in Final Cut Express HD 3.5 and now want to import into my Final Cut Pro 5.04 but when I try to do so I get an error message telling me the file type is too new and non-compatible. Is there a way round this? I would have normally tried to import an XML from FCE but that does not seem to be an option.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Dual G5   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

if you know someone with 5.1.4 they should be able to open it then get you an XML for 5.0.4

  • Chapters to DVD from Final Cut Express 4

I'm looking for a DVD authoring app that is compatible with Final Cut Express 4.  I want to have the chapter markers I created in FCX 4 to appear in my final DVD.  I tried exporting my FCX 4 project with chapter markers as a Quick Time movie and using iDVD '08 to burn a DVD.  In the dvd play-preview, none of the chapters were present.  I don't see anyway to create chapters with iDVD '08.
Is there something I'm missing in Final Cut Express 4 when creating chapter markers or exporting? Is there a Mac version of a DVD authoring app other than iDVD that would work?
    Thanks.

    Thanks Tom.
I followed the instructions and was able to get chapters from Final Cut Express to work in the iDVD preview.
I'm not sure how to control the quality of the final DVD since choosing File>Export>QuickTime Movie goes straight to export without any frame rate or resolution choices.  Is there a default setting that is adequate for TV viewing?
Thanks again for saving me time.
