Final Cut Express 4.0 Run under 10.4.10

In our school we have Mac and PC together.
We got Final Cut Studio.
I have Final Cut Express 4.0 and want to install it on
the mac.
The problem is it won't install because it requires 10.4.10 the installer says.
Is their any way around it to install. We have Tiger but no the latest version.
We can't update since the Tech guy is a paid in the you know what.
What can I do ?

Whoa, hold on just a minute.
FCE 4.0 requires 10.4.10 and QuickTime 7.2.
You should upgrade OSX first, then QT if necessary.
Upgrading to 10.4.10 is not that big a deal, but it should NOT be done via Software Update (aka "click on the Apple logo in the Menu bar ..." ).
Always prepare for an OSX upgrade by:
1 - backup all your data folders/files that are on your system (internal) HD
2 - repair permissions on your system HD (Disk Utility > Repair Permissions)
3 - download the appropriate OSX Combo updater, NOT the Incremental updater (which is what you get via Software Update). To do this you have to go to the Apple downloads website and find the 10.4.10 combo updater --> Apple > Downloads > All Downloads > Apple > Mac OSX Updates > 10.4.10 Combo Update (PPC or Intel, depending on what flavor Mac you have)
4 - make sure NO applications are running, then run the OSX Combo Updater
5 - if necessary, also update QuickTime AFTER updating OSX
6 - THEN install FCE 4.0

  • HT3835 Will final cut express 3.5 run on the newer mac os 10.8 or 10.9?

I am going to be purchasing a MacBook Pro when the newest model is released. I am wondering if I can run my Final Cut Express 3.5 with the latest operating system.

I've been using it with Lion and Mountain Lion and it is working well. It was updated to 3.5.1 via Software Update.
However, you will have a problem with the installer as I got the "PPC applications are not supported" when I tried to install it in Lion after doing a fresh install (although FCE is a Universal application, the installer appears to be PPC). So, I followed the file locations in this article and moved every file from my Snow Leopard partition to the Lion partition into the same folder/location. Restarted and it has been working since.

  • MacBook and Final Cut express 2.0

I tried to install final cut express 2.0 on my macbook and it said there was no AGP card. I've read a few topics on it so my question is should I or can I get an agp card, or is it better and cost wise just to upgrade to 3.5?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Your version of Final Cut Express won't run on an Intel-based Mac. Apollo Adama is correct, you need to get the upgrade version of Final Cut Express 3.5. You can get it at your local Apple retail store or online. You can't just buy an AGP graphics card, the graphics card is built-in to the MacBook.

  • Final Cut Express won't open on my MBP

I have a new Macbook Pro 17 in. I loaded Final Cut Express HD which runs fine on my G4 tower and Powerbook G4.
When I try to open it I get a message saying:
    Configuration error
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing.
    AGP card.
    What is going on?
Do I need to get a newer version of FCE HD?

Well I know that the Apple Pro Training Series FCE book is really good. I don't have it. I own the Apple Pro Training Series for Final Cut Pro and it's amazing and have learned a lot from it.
Inside FCE DVD - those are always pretty good.
Apple Pro Training Series: FCE HD - same author as my Final Cut Pro book.
Googling is your friend. You can find a lot.
I know that Inside FCE is really good and the company that makes those DVds have good training DVDs.
    Best of Luck.

  • I'm running Final Cut Express 2. How can I move entire project and application from one internal hard drive to another? Ran out of space on one drive. Thanks.

I'm running Final Cut Express 2. My video project is 95% done and I've run out of space on my 500g internal hard drive. How can I (1) move the complete FCE program and video to my unused 250g internal hard drive and operate it from there and (2) how do I then purge all the FCE info from the 500g drive without losing anything from the 250 drive?
Also, is it possible to change the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 when the project is finished? If so, how? I now know this all should have been done before I started. Thanks for the help.

    1. You can't move the application. It must remain on the system drive. Move your capture scratch folder to the external FireWire drive and use the reconnect function in the project.
    2. What's the media 16:9 or 4:3?

  • Final Cut Express not able to run on new MBP

I purchased my 2.4 GHZ 2GB RAM MBP in late March. Today I installed my previously purchased Final Cut Express 2. When I launched the application, the following error message came up and did not allow me to run the program:
    Configuration error
The software requires certain hardware or software which is missing.
    - AGP graphics card
All of the MBPs in the Apple store had FCE loaded on them and I was pretty clear to the salesman that I would be using this software (FCE) on the MBP. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

How old is the FCE? FCE had to be rewritten to work on the Intel Macs. I had to update versions that ran on G4 macs because they would not run on G5 versions. If this is a newer version of FCE that runs on Intel Macs, then I do not have a suggestion for you.

  • TS3528 What to do if Final Cut Express was installed after Aperture, on a new MaBook Pro Retina running OS X 10.7.4?

What to do if Final Cut Express was installed after Aperture, on a new MaBook Pro Retina running OS X 10.7.4?

Bear in mind 10.7 and FCE are not supported working together.
FCP X is the supported application for Lion.
Users find FCE can mostly work to not working at all with Lion.
You can dowmlaod a trial of FCP X from the App Store.

  • Running Final Cut Express on an XP

Is it possible to run Final Cut Express HD on a XP system?? I'm not sure.

    no, FCE is MacOs only.

  • Can I run Final Cut Express on a MacBook?

I'm interested in purchasing Final Cut Express, but I have been told the program will run very slowly on a MacBook with only 2 GB of ram. It is it worth purchasing Final Cut without adding 2 more GB of ram to my MacBook?

I have FCE and a super special "black" macbook 2.4ghz intel core 2 Duo with 4 GB of ram installed. FCE runs just fine. For the most part rendering does not take very long at all, of course this depends what you are rendering and how long the actual media is. I would say that I am VERY satisfied with the way it runs. (but I was smart and spent the extra 100 bucks on the super special, extra fast, blackbook). Also, when someone who works for a company is suggesting you need to spend more money for better performance...well think about it...its true...but do you really need everything to render lightning fast. I tend to do a rough cut, then I tighten everything up, and save effects and adjustments that take a "reasonable time to render" til the end. Then you render and have some milk and cookies. Next thing ya know, you've had a nice snack and your sweet film is rendered...and you have money in the bank. But honestly, *runs fine*. Hope this helps.

  • Final Cut Express Running Slowly

    Hi,
I just purchased and installed final cut express 4 on my computer (MacBook Pro, OS 10.5.8), and uploaded some short clips from a sony HD video camera. When I try to play a clip in the viewer, it will run for a few seconds and then pause and the audio continues but the video skips and then eventually just stops. The whole thing just seems to be running very slowly. At first I had used the internal HD ask my 'scratch disk', and then I tried using my lacie firewire external hard drive (although I just went to system preferences and changed the scratch disk there... I'm not confident that it is really using the external hard drive). Any suggestions? I need to get it working ASAP because I've got a school project to do!
    Thanks!

Changing the scratch disk now will not move the media. You'll have to move it to the external and reconnect it in the application.

  • Will Final Cut Express HD run on my MacBook?

    Hi all!
I bought myself a MacBook Intel C2D a few months ago. I do enjoy it very very much.
I am thinking about going from iMovie to Final Cut Express HD, but I am not sure if it will run on my MacBook Intel C2D.
Anyone who can enlighten me in this subject?
    Sincerely,
    Andreas
    MacBook Intel C2D   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Yes, Final Cut Express will run on your MacBook. When you purchase, be sure to get FCE version 3.5 (not an earlier version).
What are the specs of your MacBook - especially how much RAM memory and what size HD you have in it.
Here are the FCE technical specs. Even though the minimum requirement is 512MB RAM, Final Cut Express will run much better if you have at least 1GB RAM in your MacBook (and 1GB RAM is the minimum if you plan to do HDV video).
    Hope that helps!

  • ATI Radeon x1600 good enough to run Final Cut Express HD?

I just bought a MacBook Pro about one month ago and everything works great until I try to run Final Cut Express. Basically I have one small error that reads "You need an AGP graphics card." I think to myself I just bought a $2000 computer, won't it run Final Cut Express. I just wanted to know if this is really true, and if so, where can I purchase an AGP graphics card?

    No Problem chrisjocanis !
When you get the error message hit the "esc" key and FCE should open normally.
However, it will probably work very slowly etc.
You need to upgrade to FCE 3.5 Universal Binary which is specially designed to work on Intel powered Macs (and older ones).

  • Run Final Cut Express through Apple Remote

I am trying to capture a lot of video clips and to do that I have set up a couple of Mac Minis with tape decks connected and want to run them from one work station through Remote Desktop. Trouble is the Mini won't run Final Cut Express unless a monitor is attached. It does not recognize the video card being installed without the monitor. Is there a solution I am not seeing? Any ideas would be welcome.

We shoot hours of video everyday on mini dv camcorders. The tapes are then captured via Final Cut Express to a G5 Mac Pro connected to a dv deck with firewire. Clips are then mpeged and stored on a server for everyone to use in their research in the office. The tapes are about an hour each and I want to capture more than one at a time without setting up a bunch of workstations for one person to man. I want to have three or four decks connected to three or four computers all running Express and I want to operate those computers through Remote Desktop without monitors on those computers. This all works, I have set it up and done it with a couple of G5 Mac Pros but when I bought a Mini to save space and cost the Mini will not open Express without a monitor connected to it. Is there an easier way to capture video than I am thinking. I welcome any advice.
