Final Cut Express 4 Rendering of Still images

I recently upgraded to Final Cut Express HD. Now, whenever I bring in still images, they come in as unrendered. Before, they would still be able to preview. If I do pan and zooms, it has to rerender. Is there anyway I can bring back the preview mode, as this will seriously slow my work.

Switch your timeline's RT popup to Unlimited RT. Uncheck the box for warn next time if/when you get a dropped frame dialog box.

  • Final Cut express rendering problem

    Hello,
I'm creating a QuickTime file on Final Cut to be used as a background in iDVD. I'm importing graphics/text from Adobe Photoshop and when I look at it unrendered, it looks perfect.
However, as soon as I render it (and the subsequent output), there seems to be horrible aliasing.
I've tried to adjust the Render Control Tab, but I don't even know if my version has one (Final Cut Express 1.0, talk about old school!)
    Please help!

This problem is from another and I will learn more tonight. Thanks for asking.

  • Final cut express gives a jittery image on my G5 iMac

I asked a similar question before and got some useful input but the problem still exists. When i enter a still image then zoom in with the motion tools in FCE the image moves around unevenly in the frame. When I Render the images in the Timeline, the problem gets even worse. I tried this with the same images on my old G4 450 with FCP 1.2 and it worked just fine- the way it's supposed to. Could there be a system problem with my iMac G5?

First I tried flicker filter, and it helped some of the photos, but others became even worse! (The entire image shakes now instead of just portions.) I removed the flicker filter and tried the de-interlace filter, and that produced about the same results. I would try editing the photos separately in Adobe Photoshop, but before I delve into that I would like to set up an external video monitor. Unfortunately I've wasted about two days, and I can't seem to get it to work. I first tried by connecting the iMac to a Sony camcorder and connecting the camcorder to the video port on my television. No joy. Then I tried connecting the iMac via a mini-DVI to video adapter to my television. I thought my old television might be the problem, so I connected instead to the video port on a projector, and it still didn't work! I've changed the display settings and deleted certain preferences files, to no avail. My iMac doesn't seem to recognize the external display. I'm beginning to doubt this Mac purchase. Thanks for any help you can provide!

  • Final Cut Express Rendering Issue

If I sometimes make revisions to a clip that was rendered some time ago, and then re-render, the previous render result is not replaced by the new render.
How can I fix this? Is there a way to un-render a previously rendered clip?

FCE will re-render any or ALL deleted render files to make it play properly.

But it apparently won’t allow one to re-render. If I make a change to a clip and render it, the new render should take precedence, but it doesn't.
It doesn’t make sense that the user should have to deal with the files in the Finder; it should all be done with the software interface.
Your initial response (and  DH’s) were actually helpful since I now know what FCE cannot do.
    Thanks for the input.

  • Final Cut Express 4 with Lion OS X

Will my Final Cut Express 4 software still work if I install Lion on my iMac?

I have done a clean install of Mountain Lion on my mid 2010 Macbook Pro.
I have the original 4.0 Final cut Express disk. If I install this 4.0 on a mountain lion mac, will I get an option to update to 4.01 via update or am I stuck on 4.0?
    Thanks
Did you read my post in this thread?
Be aware that FCE and the Lions are not supported by Apple and unexpected results can occur, meaning users have to either live with the problem or sort it out themselves.

  • Rendering a jpeg image in Final Cut Express

I have a jpeg image which shows up correctly in the captured bin of Final Cut Express once it is imported, but it will not render properly. The background is black in the viewer, and the image(jpeg) in the center of the screen is a bright green square.
Im able to add motion to the image, but it does not show up in the viewer as the image, it is only a green square.
Can this be fixed in FCE?
The original file is from an email, probably from a pc, does this cause compatibitity issues?

If you have access to an image editing tool such as photoshop, I would advice you import the image into Phototshop and save it in a different format e.g, GIF format and re-import it into Final Cut Express HD. This could solve your rendering problem if all you need is to use a Still image.

  • Projecting still images using final cut express

Maybe someone can answer this tricky question. We need to project a FCE movie that has photoshop still images imported into it, but these photoshop images (which appear normal on the computer screen), are distorted in the projection. They look squashed horizontally. In fact the still image that we made with photoshop and imported into final cut needs to be projected on a wall to match a four foot tall section of the wall, so we need get the size exact. That is the reason why we cannot have any distortion.
We have read that still images imported into final cut should be 720 by 480 pixels to avoid distortion, but that produces an even more squashed image, and this in pixels, that determined the size of the image, so how would we determined the size without affecting the pixels? The distance between the projector and the wall is already fixed and we cannot move it. Does anyone know how to maintain the original proportions of a still image imported into FCE for projection? Thank so much.

Hi, thanks you for your quick answer. We used photoshop elements 4.0 (for Mac) and Final Cut Express HD 3.5.1 (Mac). The still image that we bring into FE is a mask, it has a transparency so I guessed is layered. When we bring it into FE appears as sequence so we open it into a timeline and bring it back to the browser so it can be used as a still image. The movie is projected as DVD on the wall.

  • How do I export a Final Cut Express 4 movie using quick time conversion without stretching the image?

I have created a movie in Final Cut Express 4 using videos and still photos of various aspect ratios and resolutions.  Some of the photos are verticals.  When I try to use File>Export>Using Quick Time Conversion, my images end up being stretched horizontally when the video is finally processed.  I have tried preserving the aspect ratio but the video still ends up stretched horizontally.  What should my settings be in Quick time conversion?  I just want to make a video for YouTube.
    Thanks.  -Bob

If you shoot in one of the following modes you should be able to Log & Transfer directly into FCE:
HD:  1920x1080/60i (FX or FH mode)
HD:  1440x1080/60i (HQ or LP mode)
    SD:  720x480/60i
1080/60p (PS mode) seems to be the default mode in your camcorder.  FCE only supports progressive video in 720p50 or 720p60.   That's probably why you have had to import via iMovie.
It would be better to upgrade to Final Cut Pro X, the version currently supported.  FCE was discontinued over 18 months ago and is not supported on Lion or Mountain Lion.

  • Final Cut Express 2 - Problem rendering video in sequence

I've created a 23 minute video but the last portion of the video will not render in the sequence. The audio continues to render. I would like to make some small adjustments and polish up the sequence to make a final copy but I can't see it in the canvas. I tried copying and pasting this sequence to a new sequence and to a new project. Making a new project worked once - for awhile the video was rendering and then it stopped again. Any suggestions? The render command just flashes a quick window - but doesn't do more than that.

I have Final Cut Express 2 and I'm working on a G5 with OSX. I have two hard drives and on the one with the video, I still have quite a bit of free space.
Do you think I should try to export it in 2 pieces by using the in and out markers when I export? Will that mess up iDVD when I go to press it?

  • White box around png images in Final Cut Express 4.0

I was putting in some muzzle flashes into my video with final cut express 4.0, they were png images and there was a white box around the muzzle flash after i used the composite mode screen effect, if anybody knows what the problem is i could use the help.

I inserted a 3D bullet into my movie and it had a black background. I used Composite Screen and it it worked, but it made the bullet slightly transparent. What should I do?

  • When I import a Quick Time movie into the timeline using Final Cut Express, why does it need rendering?

when I import a Quick Time movie into the timeline using Final Cut Express, why does it need rendering?

Because your clip properties do not match your sequence settings.
It will help a lot if you provide details ...
    FCE Easy Setup
Sequence settings (vid rate, frame size, compressor)
Source of your clips (camcorder make/model, etc)
Clip properties (vid rate, frame size, compressor)

  • I'm trying to make "Stop motion videos"  in Final Cut EXPRESS by using 100's of still photos and setting them to music.  They are coming out blurry if viewed larger than 4x6 in size

I'm trying to make "Stop motion videos"  in Final Cut EXPRESS by using 100's of still photos and setting them to music.  They are coming out blurry if viewed larger than 4x6 in size.
I don't understand why this is happening.

Quick follow up, since I was on my phone earlier and am back to a real keyboard.
To access Easy Setup, hit Control Q.
If you click on the blue discosure triangles, a dropdown menu with about a dozen different presets will be displayed. Select the one you want, (Here, I've selected 720P.)
Whatever you select for a preset will not be applied until you make a new sequence. (I don't like to have sequences with different properties in the same project so I prefer to make a new project if I change the Easy Setup.)
Because photo aspect ratios are different than video, I typically put a solid generator of some compatible color on the first track (v1) and put my photos on the track above (v2). Looks better, IMO, than black bars. There are other creative ways to display them. And of course, you could scale them up to fill the frame…but then you probably would have to re-position them.
    Good luck.

  • Final Cut Express 4.0.1 update still available?

As of today, August 1, is Final Cut Express still available via software update? I wish to know prior to purchasing the update from version 3.5 to 4.0.
    Thanks.

We have FCE 4.01 and have always had that version.  One project won't open.  We consistently get a dialog box saying file is unreadable or format too new.  I've tried deleting FCE preferences, zapping PRAM, reinstalling FCE and updating to 4.01, etc.  Nothing helps.  Of interest, I copied the project and moved the copy to an external HD, then created a new administrator account and opened the copy with FCE 4.01.  It opens, but then wants to find the connections, which I can't because they are on the internal HD.  Bottom line is that copy on external HD opens, then looks for connections.  Original on internal HD won't open because unreadable or format too new.  Any ideas?

  • Rendering final cut express

Whi is it taking so ling to render any changes in final cut express? It seems like its 1-2 minutes for every second of video. any ideas?

What are your clip properties & sequence settings?   If they are mismatched that could cause rendering issues.
Control-click your sequence in the FCE Browser.  Select "Item Properties"  What does it say for frame size, vid rate and compressor?  Do the same for one or more of your clips.  Tell us what those settings are.
Also, specifics will help.  What model Mac do you have, what versions of OS X and QT?  What is the capacity of your hard drive and how much free space is on it?
