Final Cut Express: Audio question. Please help!

Hi, I'm new to Final Cut Express and I have a random question.
I have a 2 minute video that I put into my timeline sequence. I added photos over some of the video and now I decided that I want to delete the rest of the video and audio since 2 minutes is too long. Well, now it will allow me to delete the video but not the audio. Does anyone know how to make in/out points for just the audio? and to cut it? Every time I make an in/out point, it only allows me to do it for the video. Now, I have this two minute-long audio that I need to get rid of that I just can't seem to delete/cut.
If anyone out there can help me, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks.
~Alice

You're making In and Out points in the timeline right? Make sure the autoselect buttons are black for the tracks you want to select.

  • Final Cut Express Problem...HELP PLEASE!

I have installed Final Cut Express HD and when I try to open the app it gives me this messages:
B4 II: Cannot load the B4 default file! Still no tonewheel files found!
    Please install the B4 again.
B4 II Cannot find default file 'def.b4'. Please locate it in order to use the default presets!
I have no idea what it's talking about or what I am supposed to do. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Have you used a lot of music applications on your computer... Midi etc,
B4 II is a virtual Hammond organ and the tone wheels are its default draw bar settings.
Have a look in your applications folder for B4... or Native Instruments folder and delete.
    Hope this helps

  • Final Cut Express Audio Listening Question

I just installed Final Cut Express and have imported an iMovie project. When I listen to it the audio does not play. Instead I get a beeping sound. The wave forms show that the audio is there but I can't listen to it and I can't turn off the beeping. Is there an easy explanation for this?
    Many thanks.
BTW, I also exported the iMovie as a quicktime movie and then imported it. Got the same result even though the quicktime movie playes perfectly.

Thanks, that seems to be the problem. Not very satisfactory though.
How do I render the audio as is suggested in the link?

  • Sound Blip is here to stay. Good job Final Cut Express HD won't help you!

Imovie 6HD is super but the sound blip on faded out music files is unforgivable. When you print (export) to a quicktime movie it puts all sorts of audio blips and volume changes onto the finished file that aren't there on playback in iMovie.
Luckilly I have final cut express HD.
Unlickilly It can't import any of my imovie project files.
It just keeps telling me that there are 'unknown files'.
So what am I to do? Can't work with the audio in imovie and can't import to final cut express HD. and yes I have the latest versions of all of these.
    Please help me

It is apparently an issue when creating PAL files. There are posts discussing this and it is a well documented problem. There are a few round about moves you can do. Check the other posts for some of these. It seems that the best bet is to uninstall and reinstall Motion 4 or 5 until this big bug is fixed. I Have imported the iMotion file into Final Cut Pro by open file and exported it from there.
    Good luck

  • Final Cut Express Output Question

    Hello...
I've just started working with Final Cut Express 4. I imported my DV 4:3 ratio footage using the DV-NTSC setup. I put together some basic material and wanted to test the output quality. I exported as a Quicktime Video. This gave me a resolution or 720 x 480. When played in Quicktime at the actual size the video is very crisp. However, when I increase the size of the playback window the video quality decreases and just looks horrible.
Ultimately, I need to export my final movie to a DVD to be played on a "normal" television, "non-widescreen", with a 4:3 ratio. When I do make the final DVD in iDVD will the footage be poor video quality, or is there some other settings I should choose to have a higher quality video be produced?
I just don't want create this major project and have all the settings wrong for final output.
Thank you in advance for any and all help.
    ~ Jarrod

What did you expect? That's what happens when you stretch video larger than it's native resolution. It should display fine on any standard TV.

  • Final Cut Express Won't Open - Help!

Hi, I had been using Final Cut Express successfully for the past six months... until ast week, when I (too hastily) deleted the contents of the Final Cut Express Documents folder to clear up space. Since then, FCE won't start. After I click on the application icon, the program seems to start up for few seconds, but then it crashes.
I have tried to reinstall FCE by deleting all of the files (following instructions I found online), but the same problem occurs.
Anyone have ideas? Any help would be great appreciated. I need FCE back!
    Thanks.

Have you updated anything or added any software recently?
Try trashing the preferences exactly as described here:-
    http://www.fcpbook.com/Misc1.html
Also, when you uninstalled FCE did you do it like this?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301182
It would also help if you told us the exact version of FCE and computer specs etc..

You need to have "handles" on both ends of your clips in order for a transition to be added.

  • Final Cut Express Audio Format

I have been editing my video in Final Cut Express, setting bars and tones for -12 db, making sure my audio is peaking at -12db. I then use the "Export to Quicktime Movie" command to prepare it for making a dvd that will be used for broadcast tv.
I then burn a dvd of this project with idvd.
Can you tell me what kind of audio file is created by idvd and final cut express during this process? the Export to Quicktime Movie command does not give options regarding the audio file and I was under the assumption that using the Quicktime Conversion command might degrade the video quality a little.
The network we are doing this for sends the dvd to be closed captioned and put onto a Beta tape and I just want to make sure we are compatible and that there is no audio degradation.
    Thanks so much.

When you export from FCE to QuickTime Movie, the audio and video are both contained in the QuickTime file as parallel tracks. There is no separate file or extension for the audio. As far as I know, the audio is linear PCM, 48KHz stereo.
On DVD there is also no separate file or extension for the audio. When iDVD encodes the audio & video for burning, the embedded audio is also linear PCM stereo.
If you need to provide a DVD to your client, the DVD contains all the client needs and you don't need to worry about the encoding. If you were doing Dolby AC-3 or DTS it would be a different story, but iDVD only supports 2-channel stereo.

  • Final cut express audio hangup

I'm doing a slideshow in Final Cut Express. The music plays fine in FCE but when I export it to a QT movie the music hangs in the same spot every time. Anybody?? I'm using OS 10.5.8 and FCE 4.0.1

What is the audio file?  If it's an MP3 you need to convert it to AIFF, 16-bit stereo.  MP3's do not work well in FCE.
Also, have you mixed down your audio? (Select the entire sequence, then do Sequence > Render Only  > Mixdown)

  • Canon AVCHD to final cut express on macbook. Help.

I just bought a CANON Vixia HE R20 AVCHD camera. I used log and transfer to get the clip onto final cut express 4. But when I add the selection to the queue, an icon comes up under status that says: error: no data. What do I do??

The files have not been converted, they were taken straight off the camera.
And I'm not really sure what you mean by media specifications, because I don't know much about the camera I'm using.
    No, I only have 4.0

  • I can't open a Final Cut Pro 6 file in Final Cut Pro 10.  Please help!

I am a long time user of Final Cut Pro 6.  I finished a video for a client but my computer was giving me issues because it's older and needs cleaned off so it is slow and it's affecting the video.  I downloaded Final Cut Pro 10 trial on my laptop and tried opening the file in Final Cut Pro 10. No go.  I thought that it would open because usually it isn't a problem when trying to open older files in newer programs.  I understand, however, that Final Cut Pro 10 has been re-writted so it presents a problem.  Can anyone please help me with this?
    Thanks

    Russ has answered your question.
    What follows constitutes bully pulpitism.
Apple has a long history of abandoning legacy software and hardware. I would be VERY careful before I bought into the the next iteration of Apple software. The real conundrum is Adobe seems bent on extracting blood from stones with its new subscription model so it becomes a choice of lessor evils. Do you pick "the next great thing" (whatever that means) from a company that you know will cut you off at the kness or do you pick something that has a high degree of stability but will bleed you over the long run?
    Not an easy choice.

Now onto my dilemma, I've checked /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework and I deff don't have that folder (ProKit.framework)
I read this http://www.digitalrebellion.com/blog/posts/solvingmissing_framework_errors_in_final_cutstudio.html but I don't have my Final Cut Studio disc here or have Final cut on another machine.
I downloaded ProKitUpdate4.5.dmg from Apple support but when I try install it - it says "Alert - Your machine doesn't need this update"
Please Please any help would be extremely helpful, I'm really stuck and don't really know what to do.

When I go to start, Logic crashes and reports that it's a DIGIDESIGN CORE AUDIO problem.
I wonder if you have this file on your machine:
    Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/Digidesign CoreAudio.plugin
If you move it to the desktop, does Logic still crash?

  • Audio question please help

I will apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge of my new iMac. I have had it for about 3 months and I cant seem to get any audio from my mixer to come out. I have Klipsch 2.1 sound running out which does work well but I cant get the audio in from my mixer(Behringer DJX 700) to come through. I am sure its something simple but I cant find anywhere that tells me how to do this. I had it running through my Dell in to the sound card and it was fine but the Dell has all but died and I cant record anything anymore. Someone please help a newbie out!! thanks!

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions...
    Behringer DJX 700
Check with the vendor site to make sure their software/hardware is Mac OS X compatible.
Considering it worked with your Dell it's obviously Windows compatible but may not be Mac. I hope that's not the case for you.

  • Final Cut Express 4 Question

    Hi guys!
I am trying to edit a video in FCE4.  I have my DVD Movie Segment ("DMS") open and my Canvas ("C").  When I take the edited portion from my DMS and insert it into my C, the picture is cutting off my guys head.  In other words, it is making my picture to large for the frame.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  It's rather urgent.  I appreciate any help!
    Thanks!
    Moondahgi

DVD footage should not really work directly in FCE, so you are pretty lucky you have stuff to look at.
If you wish to resive the Canvas it may simply be the View as already mentioned.
At the top, middle of the Canvas Window is a number with a % sign, click it and select Fit to Window and check the Correct for Aspect Ratio field.
The above only changes the Canvas display not Sequence or clip properties.
