Final cut express hd won't open

i was trying to render some video while monitoring the footage through my dv cam and then on to a tv screen. as has happened before, the camera cut out and the warning for removing hardware came up. the ext hard drive had also gone off and the video clips were now offline.
after quitting the application, i tried to reopen final cut. it seemed to be loading, but vanished at the point where the canvas, browser and timeline etc appear, and before it could read the project. even the little icon in the tool tray disappears at this point.
anyone have any idea why this is? i have tried opening this project and others from the autosave files and i'm getting the same result.
any help would be gratefully received.
thanks in advance,
mark

a friend has since helped me fix this. the answer is as follows for anyone else who needs it:
just go to your users Library folder and look in the Preferences folder within.
you need to trash 4 files:
com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
then inside another subfolder called "Final Cut Pro User Data"
Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
Final Cut Pro 5.0 Obj Cache
Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prof Cache
that should do the trick.
best all,

  • Final Cut Express 3 - Won't Open

When clicking on the icon I get the splash screen and I see that it's going through my AU audio plug-ins. Then the program just doesn't open.
*Is there a way to not have it look at my AU plug-ins?*
I never do audio editing in FCExpress anyway.
    I have checked Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Express Support/Plug-ins
But I only see the Boris Calligraphy plug in there. There are no AU plugs there.
It seems it gets through all my AU plugs and then when it gets to T-Racks AU plug that's when nothing opens and FCXpress just doesn't open.
*Any suggestions how to have FCXpress ignore my AU plugs or how to just get it to open?*
    Thanks in advance.

"How to get PC EXpress from needing to look at my AU plugs? I don't do audio editing or enhancement in Final Cut."
I also work in audio and have many plugins that I do not use in FCE.
Moving the component folder every time I use this program in inelegant at best.
There really should be a preference that disables loading all plugins.
Does anyone know of a key combination that would force FCE not to look for plugins when opening the program?

  • Loaded Creative Suite and now my Final Cut Express HD won't start up

Loaded Creative Suite on my iMAC 20" and now my Final Cut Express HD won't start up. It wants to load but i only see it for a few seconds then it disappears.
Is this a scratch disk problem or did CS do this.
    HELP !!!!!!!!

    Welcome to the discussions,
to repair permissions close all open applications go - utilities - disk utility - select macintosh HD, then click 'repair permissions' - and wait. The shutdown and re-start.
You need to supply more details about your operating system and hardware in your profile to help us to describe your method for trashing your prefs but check this out:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3800327&#3800327
or this which primarily deals with fcp but introduces fcp/fce rescue and other useful info:
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/trashing_fcpprefs.html
also, is your software up to date? Run software update from the apple menu, repairing permissions before and after.
To log into a different account and try launching FCE from there go to system preferences - accounts - and add a new user. Log into the new account and try to launch fce.
Ideally, it will help you to use the search function in these forums which can point you in the right direction before needing to post a question which may have come up in discussion before.
Good luck and post back to let us know if you've had any success.

  • My Final Cut Express 2 won't import any audio or export anything

My Final Cut Express 2 won't import mp4s or any audio or export anything. I have been using compressor only. I have recently just changed to Tiger 10.4.11

Final Cut Express does not work with MP4s.  You need to convert the MP4 video to QuickTime DV or QuickTime Apple Intermediate Codec before importing it into FCE.  Which one to use depends on the properties of the MP4 video you have ... basically, if it's standard def 4:3 then convert to QuickTime DV (NTSC if you are in North America, PAL if you are in Eurpope) ... high def 16:9 should be converted to QuickTime Apple Intermediate Codec.
In most cases you can use MPEG Streamclip to do the conversion.
As for audio files, they need to be AIFF, 16-bit (aka 48KHz), stereo.   If they are not AIFF format you need to convert them ... you can use iTunes or almost any audio editing software to convert audio files.

  • Sound Blip is here to stay. Good job Final Cut Express HD won't help you!

Imovie 6HD is super but the sound blip on faded out music files is unforgivable. When you print (export) to a quicktime movie it puts all sorts of audio blips and volume changes onto the finished file that aren't there on playback in iMovie.
Luckilly I have final cut express HD.
Unlickilly It can't import any of my imovie project files.
It just keeps telling me that there are 'unknown files'.
So what am I to do? Can't work with the audio in imovie and can't import to final cut express HD. and yes I have the latest versions of all of these.
    Please help me

It is apparently an issue when creating PAL files. There are posts discussing this and it is a well documented problem. There are a few round about moves you can do. Check the other posts for some of these. It seems that the best bet is to uninstall and reinstall Motion 4 or 5 until this big bug is fixed. I Have imported the iMotion file into Final Cut Pro by open file and exported it from there.
    Good luck

  • Created project using Final Cut Express 4, can I open it with Final Cut Pro

Created a short video using Final Cut Express 4, will my teacher be able to open this project up with Final Cut Pro???

Depends on exactly which version of FCP your teacher is using.

  • Final Cut Express Serialization won't let me pass

I'm trying to install FCE 1.01, and I get to the "Final Cut Express Serialization" window and enter the correct information. First, the "OK" button remains grayed out and I can only cancel (after checking the serial number a gazillion times).
I went away and had some coffee and when I came back ten minutes later, at last the "OK" button was blue and, I thought, ready to click. When I click "OK", nothing happens.
Another user posted this problem a while back, then said s/he had "figured it out", but DIDN'T POST THE SOLUTION ARGH!. (Sorry.) Does anyone know how to get past this dialog window?

Well, I bought the FCE 4 upgrade disc and tried to install it. Entered the reg code on the back of the booklet, and got a message saying that "this is an upgrade code. Please enter the code for the original version." When I enter the original reg code, I get a message saying, "The serial number is not valid."
I still can't run 1.01 (see above), and I've tried every method of inputting the reg code, capslock on, capslock off, with hyphens, without hyphens, you name it.
    Any ideas?

  • After hiding Final Cut Express it won't return

After I use the "Hide Final Cut Express" option on the menu bar it wont return when I click on it. All other apps. do but not FCE. I have to force quit the app. This just started happening a few days ago.

Yes, tried both - nothing. It used to work until last week. I haven't upgraded anything or changed anything. There is a little triangle under the icon meaning it's active but once I hide the app. it's all over. Have to force quit and start again.

Not only is Final Cut Pro 5.0.1 incompatible with Intel Macs, it's also incompatible with Leopard. The reason it used to work was pure luck. When you run an outdated version of Final Cut Pro you live on borrowed time because any future operating system or QuickTime update can break it.
The solution is to purchase a newer version of Final Cut Pro that is compatible with your processor and operating system. As you have a prior version of Final Cut Studio you can upgrade for $299 (even less if you shop around).

  • My Final Cut Pro 7 won't open! Help!

    Hey!
So I've had FCP 7 for awhile now and it's been working perfectly!
But then a week ago I tried to open it and
it spends a couple of seconds starting up then comes up with,
' Unable to locate the following external devices:
    Apple FireWire NTSC (720 x 480)
Your system configuration may have changed, or your deck/ camera may be disconnected or tuned off.
Please check your connections and click 'Check Again', or click 'Continue' to set external device selection to None.'
    But I don't have a camera/device that is connected?
I've tried to click 'Check Again' but nothing happens...
and when I click 'Continue' this pops up:
    Non-Writable Scratch Disks
One or more of the scratch disks you have specified does not have read/write access.
To preserve the integrity of the data used by Final Cut Pro, it is necessary to ensure read/write access to the following:
    Macintosh HD/Users/haleighdoyle/Desktop/External Drive/Documents
And the only option is for me to reset my scratch disks. And then it pops up saying that:
One or more of your chosen scratch disks cannot be found. Please verify your current selection in the scratch disks preferences.
    And THEN this pops up...
PLEASE HELP ME! I'm not too sure what to do now.
    Thank you!

You are in the wrong forum.
You need to post this in the Final Cut Studio forum.

  • Final Cut Pro 4 won't open

Just got a new computer that came loaded with Final Cut Pro 4, when I go to open it I get a "Configuration Error" saying, this software requires certain hardware or software which is missing.
    Power Mac G4/350mhz or faster.
This is what it says on "About this Mac"
    Processor 66 MHZ PowerPC G4
    2MB L3 Cache
    Memory 768 MBSDRAM
    Here's my Hardware Overview
    CPU Type; PowerPC G4 (2.1)

    L2 Cache per CPU; 256kb
    L3 Cache per CPU; 2MB
    Memory; 768MB

It seems like I have enough to run Final Cut Pro 4, is my computer set up wrong?
    Thanks
Quicksilver G4   Mac OS X (10.4)   If I kick it will it work

If you got it off eBay "loaded with Final Cut Pro 4", unless they included the original install discs and serial numbers, you don't own FCP...

  • Final Cut Pro project won't open

I can locate my project, but when I select it, the event opens and shows the beach ball forever. It is a project I had to set aside while finishing some others. I bought a new MacBook Pro and had to update to FCPX 10.1.1, and all my projects. Now the project jams when I select the event. Original media is there, the project is there, and the beach ball is there.

    Hi TNGWB,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
A few questions come to mind as I review your comments.   You mentioned “It is a project I set aside.”  Then you “updated FCPX to 10.1.1 and all my projects.”  So, was this project updated with all of the others?  Or was it moved to a different location and has not been updated yet?     When you open FCPX, do you see the event called Updated Projects?   When you click on the Updated Projects Event, do you see this particular project in the Event Browser (it will have a black and grey strip along the top.)    Click on the link below for complete instructions including screen shots:

  • Final Cut Studio 6 won't open

I had a problem with a lot of apps not opening but i did an archive and install and that seemed to fix the problem. But today i tried opening final cut, and it would bounce once in the dock, and would not open. I tried soundtrack pro and Motion and it did the same thing. Other apps work fine. Anyone know what might be happening?
    Thanks in advance
    Luke

  • Final Cut Express HD won't recognize .mov / quicktime files.

I have a MacBook Pro 13-inch with FCE3 installed. I'm using OSX 10.6.6. My camera doesn't put video out through a firewire, only usb, meaning FCE can't recognize it (to the best of my knowledge). So, to get around that, I uploaded the video through iLife '11 and converted all my video into one long .mov/quicktime file. When I try to import the video, I get a "file error" message.
Any tips on how I can get the video form iMovie to FCE? If it means not using quicktime, I'm fine with that, too.
    Thanks!

Well, to repsond to Ian, I don't have FCE4. I have FCE3. I'll upgrade eventually, though.
And I have a Cannon FS20. I did what you said in the quicktime player. Here's the format:
    "H.264, 960 x 540, Millions Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 2 channels, 44100 Hz."
The video plays fine in iMovie '11. I even tried the "share with Final Cut" tab in iMovie, but the video still wouldn't work in FCE3.
But I might add that it's not just the video from my camera that doesn't work in FCE3. It's all quicktime video. Even video that worked in FCE3 on my old Powerbook G4 now don't work in the same in FCE3 for my MacBook Pro.

  • Help Final Cut Pro 5 Won't Open

It seems to just quit when it gets to loading au plugins. It did this under 5.0 so i updated to 5.0.3 and same thing. Do i need to trash my au plugins could they be corrupt. I also tried a reinstall. It did nothing. I trashed all the plists and preferences. could i be missing anything?

    Y'Know... I just did this same thing on a guy's G5...
    Tried FCP Rescue... no go.
Went in manually and did the following:
In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences (the tilde (~) represents your Home folder.)
Remove the "com.apple.finalcutpro.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
Remove the "Final Cut Pro User Data" folder from the Preferences folder.
    BAM!!
It worked. Eye hope it works for ewe.
