Final Cut Express keeps quitting

I can open Final Cut and movie clips. However, once I play one or mess with any clip I've opened, it will shut down. Sometimes it happens immediately and other times it will happen the second time I play a clip. I've already ensured that my color setting was 'millions' and the problem persists. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've had this program for three months and I can't use it because it shuts down when I try.

Sounds either like the application isn't installed correctly, there's a problem with the media or the drive, or there's a trouble with RAM.

Absolutely. Go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie (do NOT use QuickTime Conversion). Make sure you check the Self-Contained box. The export will be an exact copy of your Sequence, complete with any filters or other effects you've added. Import the self-contained movie back into the project (or another project) if needed.

Why does Final Cut Express 4 quit automatically when I open Log and Transfer window?

I'm using a Sony NXCAM and I am editing on a Mac OS X. The clips I have recorded are in MTS format so I understand I must use the Log and Transfer setting to import my clips. I plug the camera into my computer, go into Final Cut Express 4, turn the camera on, and then go into the Log and Transfer window. Once I open that, Final Cut quits and an error message pops up that reads, "Final Cut Express quit unexpectedly." Final Cut quits too fast for me to even click on anything in the Log and Transfer window. I really don't understand why it does this. The only thing I can think of why Final Cut is quitting is because I have over 100 clips on the camera, so maybe that is too much for Final Cut Express 4 to handle. However, I wouldn't think that would be the case. If anyone knows of anything I could do to fix this problem, then please send me a reply. I've looked around the internet to see if anyone else has had this problem, but I haven't found anything. Thank you, any responses will be greatly appreciated!

Shooted videos directly saved to the SD memory card is no problem, the log and transfer window immediately recognizes the sd card and I was able to convert the videos. I will check later today if this were 25p, 50i or 50p footages.
Strangely enough is that transferring the .mts files from the internal memory to the sd card (using the Mac finder, I don't know if it is possible within the camera itself) won’t help, the log and transfer window doesn't the recognizes the transferred files, strange!
I hope that this problem will not occur using Final Cut Pro X, which I will start using soon.
I'm curious what the exact problem will be.

Final Cut Express keeps wanting to rename my project

I've been working on a video in Final Cut Express 3.5.1 for weeks. Now I keep getting a message on the screen that says "Final Cut Express cannot autosave your project unless you save it first. Would you like to save it now?"
If I hit the yes button, it brings up a save box that says "Untitled" and wants me to give the project a new name and a place to save it. How can I make the autosave feature recognize that this is already a named project, and it can be autosaved without renaming it?

Did a bit of research here. In Tom Wolsky's tutorial book on Final Cut Express 2, on p. 125, his solution to avoiding losing your Favorites bin is to just drag it from the Effects panel into the Browser. He says that this copy in the Browser will remain with the project even if the prefs get trashed.
He also agrees that a Favorites project should be created in which you keep a bin containing all your favorite effects and filters, sometimes in stacks in separate folders.
Then when you want to use these effects elsewhere, you can just drag them from your Favorites project into any other project.
He says you should also burn a backup of this Favorites project to a CD occasionally to ensure you never lose it.

Error: Final Cut Express HD quit unexpectedly.. help????

Ok, It was working great. Then all of a sudden I tried to open FCE HD from my dock icons and it says "The application Final Cut Express quit enexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected." However, this doesn't seem to be true, because now quicktime doesn't work at all, and iMovie will not import anything: audio, video, nothing. I've tried everthing I can think of, I read other discussions here, nothing helped. I even un-intalled and re-installed twice... Can anyone give me a suggestion to fix FCE HD? Thanks. Fat Preacher.

Disconnect all devices from the computer except the keyboard and mouse. Reboot. Trash your preferences and repair permissions and then launch the applications from the Applications folder at the top level of your hard drive. If it still does not launch the OS has been corrupted. I would advise contacting a service center or erasing the disk and reinstalling the operating system and all applications.

Final Cut express keeps crashing within 5 minutes of starting to render

I am using Final cut express for this project. I created it on an Imac.
Specs: Quad Core; Intel Core I-7; 8GB Ram; 2.93 GHz. Media is stored on an external HD.
Whenever I select render timeline, the window appears and shows me the progress. But once I let it alone and leave the computer alone for anywhere from 3-10minutes, and I return, I am greeted with another window asking if I want to report this crash to Apple or reopen program. What on earth could be going wrong? I have used this imac before with no hassle at all when rendering, but for some reason, it doesn't seem to render be working now.
I have tried to render only a few minutes of the time line and it works okay without crashing, but when I select the 30minute project, it crashes within a few minutes.
I've tried a few things to try and identify the problem, but none of them have helped.
For instance, I completely turned off the screen saver. In the preferences, under power saver, I selected, computer sleep to "never"; Display sleep to "never"; I unchecked the "put the hard disk to sleep when possible."
And then I tried to only very small portion of the timeline. The results were as follows:
At around 5 minutes, the final cut crashes. I tried this process several times, and it seems to render up until the 5 minute limit and then crashes again.
Does anyone know what to do?
Any suggestions?

Final Cut Express keeps crashing

Final Cut Express is telling me I don't have enough RAM for the video project I am working on. All my media is on external drives so, I am guessing, it is just that the project itself has become too large. It is over 45 minutes w/ lots of photos, music and fancy effects. My system has the standard 512 MB of memory and FXE is telling me I need at least 1040. Is there a way to upgrade my system to that level of RAM? Thanks.

I am finishing up two projects and ready to export them to quicktime and final cut pro will not let me open the projects as it quit on me and these projects will not re-open.

Does it give you any error messages?
Try downloaded FCP RESCUE and then click on TRASH. It will trash your preferences...that usually fixes stuff like this.

Final Cut X keeps quitting immediately after I open it.

I have no idea why. Final Cut Pro X doesn't even stay open long enough to do anything. It closes immediatly. I am really bad with computers. Can someone please walk me through step by step of what to do. It is urgent. I am a film student and I edit videos for a parenting website. This is a matter of graduating and keeping my job. Final Cut Pro keeps quitting on me!!

As I'm trying to import an audio track from a CD into Final Cut, the program 'unexpectedly quits'. How do I import music for Final Cut to stopping shutting down on me?!?

First, I imported songs from a CD onto my desktop. These are .m4a that are unrecognizable to FCE. I then changed them to mp3, and tried to import them into Final Cut, but that's when the program quits on me. Am I doing something wrong? Should the songs be compressed or converted somehow? Because I tried that too and again, the program quits. It never did that before.

Live Type causes Final Cut to keep quitting.

I have an older project with Live Type files in it. It's always worked fine before. I just moved all of my data to a new hard drive. I've been reconnecting all of my media. But when ever I try to reconnect LiveType files, the application keeps quitting. I've tried deleting preference files, and even reinstalling FCP.
I'm kind of at my wit's end here. Please help!

Final Cut Express 4 "Quits Unexpectedly"

Ive read some threads out there regarding my problem and I have yet to solve my problem. I first tried reinstalling FCE4 but that didn't solve anything. Then I read a thread in which Tom had given directions to delete my preferences. I did that, and it still "quits unexpectedly." This happens at random moments while I am working on a project. If there are any other solutions out there please let me know. Thanks

Has this just started and were you able to use FCE 4 successfully in the past, or are you new to FCE and it has always been that way?
If it has recently started quitting have you installed or updated ANYTHING recently?
Is your video material normal DV or some non-standard format ?
The problem could be in your computer etc. or it could be the way you are using it.
As you have given no details about how everything is set up and exactly how you are working it is almost impossible to suggest anything.
A couple of years ago someone couldn't capture video, but it was only after several days of correspondence that we discovered he was trying to capture it from his STILL camera !

Final Cut Express HD quits suddenly

Hi everybody and anybody. Here is my dilemma. I have had FCE HD for quite a while now and I've produced 5 great videos with it. Yesterday after capturing some footage on my WD Mybook external drive and viewing the footage on my MacBook Pro, FCE quit on me. After re-launching the app, I noticed that my clips in the bin were disconnected. After several failed attempts to re-connect, I gave up for the night. Today, when I attempted to launch FCE HD, all I got was the startup screen and then it just quits! No matter how many times I tried, it failed to launch. I browsed the Apple Discussions and thought I'd found the solution. But after "trashing and repairing, uninstalling and reinstalling, disconnecting and reconnected, I've accomplished nothing. I even did the whole QT thing to no avail. Can someone point me in another direction that will get my dilemma resolved. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Quicktime might have done it. Try uninstalling and reinstalling an earlier version. Make sure you trash the QT receipts:
