Final Cut Express On Macbook 13" core duo ?

Im thinking of buying a macbook quite soon, the white 2.0 ghz one with 1gb of ram and 100gb HDD but i was wondering if they can run Final cut express as i do alot of video editing and i want editing on the go with the macbook, but i am unsure whether it will work or not because of the macbooks graphics engine,?????/??
many thanks, lewis

You need to be really careful with reviews like this. You might want to note that this review only shows rendering and encoding which does not require the graphics processor. It does not elaborate on the MacBook's performance when it comes to actually using Final Cut Pro which does require the graphics processor to peform at a certain level. Notice the lack of comparison with things like FCPs real time effects and the like?

  • Final cut express using macbooks

I have just upgraded from a G4 powerbook to a macbook...and I tried to install Final Cut Express 2 without any success.
Is it possible to use this version on a macbook,or can I get an upgrade,or do I have to install an agp graphics file?
I live in Greece and obtaining Apple material is rather tricky...
    Thanks in advance.

You can just Esc past the error message about the AGP video card. FCE will run but not quite as well as version 3.5 will.
FCE version 3.5 is the correct version for the Intel-based Macs like your Macbook. I highly recommend that you upgrade to v3.5

  • Final Cut Express 2/MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro (purchased in June 2006). I am trying to install Final Cut Express 2, but it says that I need to install an AGP Graphics Card in order to open and use the application. The computer already has a graphics card in it (ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 Graphics Processor I THINK), so I don't know how to proceed. Please help!

Do what Ian says, but it will be very slow, as it is running through Rosetta Emulation, so you should upgrade to FCE 3.5.

  • Final Cut Express? Macbook?

Yes, I am buying a blackmacbook with 1gig of ram, and a 200gb hard drive in june! now will a black macbook run final cut express? (in like dec. ill updgrade to 2gigs of ram) but does it work? any video tests or reviews? Thanks

The disk that contains your computer’s operating system is called the startup disk or boot disk. In addition to the operating system, the startup disk also stores your applications (such as Final Cut Pro), your application preferences, system settings, and other documents. Since the files on the startup disk are your most critical data, maintaining the startup disk is vital.
Since digital media (especially high data rate video) makes your disks work harder, you should use dedicated disks for capturing and playing back your digital video and other media files. Consider your media disks as storage units that work long, hard hours, while your startup disk keeps your system properly organized. If a disk is going to malfunction, it’s better if your critical data is separate from your replaceable media files.

  • Canon AVCHD to final cut express on macbook. Help.

I just bought a CANON Vixia HE R20 AVCHD camera. I used log and transfer to get the clip onto final cut express 4. But when I add the selection to the queue, an icon comes up under status that says: error: no data. What do I do??

The files have not been converted, they were taken straight off the camera.
And I'm not really sure what you mean by media specifications, because I don't know much about the camera I'm using.
    No, I only have 4.0

  • Will Final Cut Express work on a Macbook Core Duo

I have a 2006 Macbook 2ghz Core Duo with 2gig of Ram. Will Final Cut Express work on this? Will the integrated graphics card affect performance?

    hey there 12frets,
FCE should run w/out major probs. you should even be able to run a 2nd display up to 23", which would be very handy as the Canvass(playback) window will be rather small on a 13" display.
    FCE System Requirements
A Mac computer with a 1.25GHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, Intel Core Duo, Intel Core 2 Duo, or Intel Xeon processor
For AVCHD: A Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of RAM or more
An AGP or PCI Express graphics card compatible with Quartz Extreme; or an Intel GMA integrated graphics processor in a MacBook or Mac mini computer
Some FxPlug filters are not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors.
A display with 1024-by-768 resolution or higher
    A DVD drive for installation
Mac OS X v10.4.10 or later
    QuickTime 7.2 or later
500MB of disk space to install Final Cut Express and LiveType
Additional 500MB to install LiveType content
    good luck.

FCE 3.5 runs great on my Mini with 1 gig of RAM. It will run even better with two. No problems other than if you want to open your projects in Final Cut Pro (as I need to do) you need FCP 5.1. Anything earlier won't open it.

  • Dropped frames on Brand New Macbook and Final Cut Express!

I have recently bought a New Macbook, and installed Final Cut Express HD 3.5 on it. I have Quicktime Player 7.3. My Macbook is a 2GHz Intel Core Duo processor. Memory is 1GB 667 Mhz. I have already used up a lot of Hard Drive on my Laptop with other applications, and in my capture window it says that I have 24.5GB space (109 minutes). Could this be the problem - not enough space?
I have looked over past discussions on this and in some cases I see that a downgrade to the old version of Quicktime has been necessary. As I have a new Macbook and new Final Cut Express HD, could this still be the case?
Also I have been reading the manuals, and wonder if the frame rate or time code settings could be affecting the dropped frames? Does anyone know where I can check this?
I'm a total newbie to FCE so be gentle....
    Appreciate all advice

You are quite frankly, a genius. I have just managed to capture my footage after a gruelling few days of trying just about anything. Your recommendations regarding settings and also the external hard drive have fixed my problem.
I'm going to have a large glass of wine now to celebrate my victory - and then I'm going to try and figure out how you actually use FCE after that.... er hem... now where did I put that manual..?
    Thanks loads

  • Can I run Final Cut Express on a MacBook?

I'm interested in purchasing Final Cut Express, but I have been told the program will run very slowly on a MacBook with only 2 GB of ram. It is it worth purchasing Final Cut without adding 2 more GB of ram to my MacBook?

I have FCE and a super special "black" macbook 2.4ghz intel core 2 Duo with 4 GB of ram installed. FCE runs just fine. For the most part rendering does not take very long at all, of course this depends what you are rendering and how long the actual media is. I would say that I am VERY satisfied with the way it runs. (but I was smart and spent the extra 100 bucks on the super special, extra fast, blackbook). Also, when someone who works for a company is suggesting you need to spend more money for better performance...well think about it...its true...but do you really need everything to render lightning fast. I tend to do a rough cut, then I tighten everything up, and save effects and adjustments that take a "reasonable time to render" til the end. Then you render and have some milk and cookies. Next thing ya know, you've had a nice snack and your sweet film is rendered...and you have money in the bank. But honestly, *runs fine*. Hope this helps.

  • MacBook & Final Cut Express 4

    Hi,
I'm thinking about buying a MacBook and I've got my eye set on the MacBook with following specifics:
    2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
    250GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
    Superdrive 8x (DVD+R DL/DVD+RW/CD-RW)
(It's the black MacBook, the one highest in it's price range.)
Since I have no experience with Mac I'm curious if this type of Mac works effective with Final Cut Express 4 and maybe eventually Final Cut Pro. I do have 2 mobile hard disks of 250 Gig each, so a lot of my (ongoing) projects can be saved to those 2. You think this Mac meets the requirements or should I think about maybe choosing a MacBook Pro?
(Money is an issue, but there can by cutbacks or/and extra jobs.:-)
    Thanks

You want to max that RAM out to 4G if you are going to use FCE. Final Cut Pro will run marginally, but if you are going to be doing a lot of serious graphics/video work, I would suggest getting a MacBook Pro. The graphics circuit in a MB is anemic because it shares it memory with the main RAM. Check out refurbished and used MBPs to compare prices.

  • Final Cut Express HD and the Macbook Pro

I just purchased a Macbook Pro along with final cut express HD. After purchase I read that FCE HD won't work with the macbook pro. I was hoping to see if anyone knew if they were coming out with an upgrade to the universal version like they are with Final Cut Pro.
Intel based macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

That will not work. Ian's solution is for dual core G5s and PCIe based iMacs. It does not address Intel based machines like the 2006 iMac and the MacBook Pro. These machines will have to wait till the end of March for the release of new Universal Binary software to run on them. It's possible FCE3 will never run and will need to be upgraded to another version. If you recently purchased FCE HD to run it on this new computer, I'd suggest, if you can, to return it until the position on the new software becomes clear.

  • I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am

I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am? I need them and don't want naturally to buy them again!!!
    Thank you

Assuming you purchased QT Pro, you can always download it again at no extra charge by logging in to your Apple account.
Regarding FCE, there is no way to download & install the product.  You need an original FCE install disk and your FCE serial number.
Final Cut Pro X (aka FCPX) can be purchased & downloaded from the App Store.
