Final Cut Express render fault in Snow Leopard
I am only able to perform a Full Render in FCE4. If I wish to "Render Selection" or "Render Only" the render window briefly flashes before disappearing without rendering anything. Full rendering is obviously not a god thing as it takes ages each time, and creates massive files which are not necessary.
Any ideas... (I've tried binning all the pref files and all the usual stuff).
I have rebooted in 10.5.8 and all is working fine, so this is definitely a Snow fault.
You can delete anything you want from the FCE Documents folder, but if you delete Capture Scratch files then any projects with those in them will be useless. Nothing in the FCE Documents folder would make it reset your licensing details.
However, if you accidentally deleted this file, FCE would again prompt you for your serial number and such:

Is final cut pro 6 compatible with snow leopard?
Is final cut pro 6 compatible with snow leopard? I don't want to upgrade the OS if I lose FCP.
DO NOT MAKE AN IRREVERSIBLE DECISION. You should clone your startup drive so you can quickly return your system to it's previous state if there's a problem. Although Nick is always right, do you really want to trust him (or me for that matter).

Final Cut Express problem after upgrading to Leopard
I have a Final Cut Express project file (plus all supporting files) on an external hard drive. This project has run successfully on 2 computers, a PPC running OS 10.4 Tiger and an Intel MacBook Pro running OS 10.6 Snow Leopard. After upgrading the PPC computer to OS 10.5 Leopard, it will no longer open the FCE file on the external drive. Other FCE project files work OK. The error message is: File Error: Access Denied.
Other files on the external drive open successfully (e.g. iMovie and iPhoto).
The Get Info window of the external drive did not have the checkmark in front of Ignore Ownership on this Volume. Adding the checkmark makes no difference.
Any suggestions?

There are 2 variations of FX1: the USA and the european: FX1 and FX1E, like the HC1 and the.. HC1E.
SONY choose 1080i60 (1080 pixels height, interlaced 60 frames sec) for USA and 1080i50 for europe. It's relevant because you can preview your HDV clip on a standard TV sets (NTSC or PAL).
The Z1 model can handle NTSC and ... PAL, nice .

Final Cut Express Render Files
Hello all.
Just wondering what files are okay to delete in User > Documents > Final Cut Express Documents
I already have deleted most of the files inside of the folders, such as the render files, because I've already exported them as quicktime movies. But just before, after deleting various things, (such as audio renders, auto-saves, renders,) when I next opened up final cut express, it asked for my licensing details.
Did I do something wrong, and delete something I wasn't supposed to????
Thanks in advanced.

I am having weird problems with Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 and it's functionality with Snow Leopard.
Based on feedback I found online, I am being told to delete the com.apple.FinalCut Preferences and the /User Data folder. Still, I have to do that repeatedly. Whenever I open the Project file externally , FCP jams. Afterwards, it won't start up again.
Also, it is claiming not to recognize an DVCPro HD 1080i60 connection ; although, this is the same camera on my G5 Mac with FCP 5.1.4 and OSX Tiger.
Anyone with the same problem know of any solutions?
Thank you much!!I have two computers -- one at home [a G5 Mac with OS 10.4.9] and one at my producers [ new Mac Mini with Snow Leopard 10.6.4 ] .
The computer with G5 / MAC OS 10.4 runs perfectly. The new computer is flaking out excessively however.
For Quicktime, I have QT 10.0 (114) -
Hey Folks:
I am a newbie to Final Cut Studio 2 and have had some major problems. I run the latest version of Snow Leopard and was able to install FC Studio 2 with no problems. I have a JVC BR-HD50 deck and took some test footage this week. Finding out how to log and capture JVC 24p was a task in and of it's self, but I get it to run and captured some footage into FC Studio 2.
Now the problem, Final Cut Studio stopped letting me log and capture. I tried to wipe and reinstall the software 4 times in the last 2 days and can't get rid of it completely. I used "FCS Remover" by Digital Rebellion, reloaded the FCP disks and still; still had old registration info appear when I rebooted.
I tried Apple's "Final Cut Assistant 1.0.6" the second time to wipe out user prefs, everything in fact - then reloaded all the FCP Studio disks and again the registration info is the still the old one (I misspelled my name so I see this each time I launch the application) and importing from the JVC deck is now not working correctly. I trashed all the FCP scratch files, ran all the utilities, scanned for anything on my drives that might be old pref files. Still on the forth reload of the DVD's the same registration name comes up. I can't log and capture, (I have it set to the correct import prefs for my deck)
Three xanax later, 48 hours without sleep; still have a app that won't run, I am at my wits end.
Anyone know how to totally wipe FC Studio 2 so I can get a "clean" start?
Thank you for your help in advance! (Rehab is in my near future)[FCS Remover|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm]

Deleting FCP Preferences manually:
Open a Finder window. Set the view mode to columns:
Click the house icon that has your name next to it.
Click the folder "Library" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Preferences" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Final Cut Pro User Data" in the next column.
Move the files "Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs", "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" and "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache" to the Trash and empty it. -
Final Cut Pro not working with Snow Leopard.
Hello, folks, happy holidays and new year to you all.
I have just recently found out the FCP 5 (fully updated, but I don't know what the exact version is) is not opening. It bounces in the dock, and that's it. However, the other apps are all working fine, Motion, DVD Pro, and Live Type. Soundtrack Pro is working as well, but I also own that with Logic, so I don't know which version it is.
I'm on Snow Leopard 10.6.2, this is on my desktop. I have repaired permissions.
What I haven't done, is to see if it boots from my backup 10.5.8 drive, as well as see if it is working on my laptop. The reason I'm posting is to see if there is a known problem and easy solution. Thanks all!Try this:

Final Cut Express RENDER RENDER RENDER
Hi there.
I have just bought a new cam. It's a Go Pro helmet cam HD. When i put the files in the timeline it has to be rendered all the time, which takes hours!
My go pro HD:
- 29,97 fps
- 1280x960 fps
-H.264
-Mp4
The worst thing is, that my friend is jusing the same program and the same cam. but he does not have to render his video.
please helpSince FCE doesn't work natively with h.264 or MP4 files, it's no wonder you have to render. You need to convert the files to a format that FCE works with natively in order to avoid constant rendering. All of this is covered in the manual.

Final Cut Express won't maximize / restore
I have had one of our Final Cut Express machines, new iMac, latest Leopard and QT, refuse to "restore" once hidden. You can do show, etc and nothing happens. The App is active, at least on the doc, but choosing quit would not quit either. Had to option-force quit and relaunch. It seems to be happening about once a day. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any solutions? Things to try?
Delete the User Preferences EXACTLY like this:-

Upgraded to Mac OS X Snow Leopard and final cut express 4 will not work
upgraded to Mac OS X Snow Leopard and final cut express 4 will not launch but my final cut express HD 3.0 version comes up. I reinstall my final cut express 4 upgrade disc and it still will not launch.
Where do I go from here? You installed from the discs, right?
What happens when you try to launch? What are you doing to launch and what happens you do it? Can't see you computer from here. If you probably need to contact Apple with an installation issue on a new computer. -
AVCHD and Snow Leopard (I-Movie / Final Cut Express)
AVCHD and Snow Leopard. I have been using Final Cut Express 4 and I-Movie 08 since they both came out. I have been using the same AVCHD camcorder (Cannon HG10) with both programs, and it has worked perfectly. Now I have installed 10.6 and 10.6.1 and now neither program will allow AVCHD transfer. Both recognize the camcorder but won't transfer.
A little poking around on the internet and I discovered that Snow Leopard won't support AVCHD (http://www.shedworx.com/no-avchd-in-snow-leopard). Third party web site mind you.
So far I agree it won’t work with AVCHD. Now since both programs were developed to use one of the most widely utilized formats in HD camcorders, again AVCHD, this accidental or intentional over site smells of Microsoft, not Apple.
I like some of the features of Snow Leopard but for me the video aspect is one of the top requirements. Apple had been the leader in the multimedia revolution and this mis-step with AVCHD is it’s typical of Apple.
I have just restored back to 10.5 and every thing is working again.
Now that were around the block here is the question. If anyone can come up with a solution…that does not include the used of third party software to convert, please let me know.
And to Apple, please fix this problem, I’m already hearing the complaints with QuickTime X, and seen the headlines, “Snow Leopard, is it Apples Vista?”.CAM2399 wrote:

This is, to be polite, a misunderstanding. Shedworx are being careless with their terminology.
1. SL itself does not support AVCHD, but neither did Leopard.
2. AVCHD support is built in to the movie editing software (iMOvie, FCE, FCP), exactly as it was in 10.5
3. I am happily editing AVCHD from my HG10 in iMovie 09 and in FCP, in exactly the same way I did under 10.5
So you have a specific issue with your camera, you've taken that with some carelessness from Shedworx, and on that basis you've decided, incorrectly, that Apple does not/will not support AVCHD.
There were many cases under Leo where people reported problems getting their camera to communicate with iMovie. Solutions include:
1. Trashing iMovie preference files
2. Repairing permissions
3. Copying the AVCHD folder tree from the camera to disk, and importing to iMovie from there
4. Using MPEG Streamclip to convert the camera footage before importing to iMovie
5.Making sure the camera is running on mains power, not battery, and that it's in playback mode. -
Recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion then Mavericks. I have Final Cut Express and when I export to Quicktime, and open to play the movie, Quicktime starts to "convert" it? What is this about????
My existing movies are all the following types straight from FinalCut
Apple Intermediate Codec, 1920 × 1080, Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
This particular movie is 6.66 Gb
The new Quicktime player in OS Mavericks converts these to the following format:
Apple ProRes 422, 1920 x 1080
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 2 channels, 48000 Hz
And a movie size of 6.48 Gb
Please, please can someone tell me why? -
Final Cut Express Problem with Snow Leopard
When I export my movie from Final Cut Express using Quicktime Conversion settings it is taking up to 10 times as long to export than prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard. I have FCE 4.0.1. Mac OS is 10.6.2. This is the only problem I am having but it's a huge one. I use an external hard drive as the scratch disk with FCE.
Going back and doing a complete clean install of Snow Leopard is not an option. I have too many other programs that would have to be re-installed and no time for all that.
I have removed and re-installed FCE as someone suggested. No difference. FCE works find until export time. I use it for short on location video clips and need fast turnaround.
The movie eventually exports and the exported movie is fine. It's just taking forever. Did not have this problem on previous Mac OS.
I can edit the same video in iMovie and export in a fraction of the time but would prefer to use FCE since it has more options.
I would be grateful for any suggestions.chuckz33 wrote:
Frame Rate to 8000
Frame rate is fixed to 29.97 ot 25 in FCE. What do you plan with 8000 frames/second?
HD1920X1080 is a frame size, what is the CODEC used (like H.264,MPEG2, QT animation, etc)?
