Yes you need to crossgrade to 5.1
The offer only lasts until the end of December and after that it'll probably go back up to $699.
Also I wanted to point out that you're in the Final Cut Express forum asking about Final Cut Pro. Not a huge deal but in the future you might get better results asking Final Cut Pro related questions in the Final Cut Pro forum.
i know that if you hit esc will run but it is to slow my hp 2.0ghz is faster
Your HP runs Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro faster?!? Huh...Bwa?!?
By this I assume you mean your HP runs comparative programs faster (Avid)

FCE was discontinued nearly 3 years ago and is no longer supported.
I don't know whether it's possible to install it on Mavericks and if you do it may not perform properly.
Final Cut pro X and iMovie are the only Apple apps that are supported.

  • Final Cut Express HD and the Macbook Pro

I just purchased a Macbook Pro along with final cut express HD. After purchase I read that FCE HD won't work with the macbook pro. I was hoping to see if anyone knew if they were coming out with an upgrade to the universal version like they are with Final Cut Pro.
Intel based macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

That will not work. Ian's solution is for dual core G5s and PCIe based iMacs. It does not address Intel based machines like the 2006 iMac and the MacBook Pro. These machines will have to wait till the end of March for the release of new Universal Binary software to run on them. It's possible FCE3 will never run and will need to be upgraded to another version. If you recently purchased FCE HD to run it on this new computer, I'd suggest, if you can, to return it until the position on the new software becomes clear.

  • Installing final cut express 3.5 onto macbook pro 10.8.4

My Final Cut Express 3.5 will not install onto my new macbook pro 10.8.4
Seems like an awful waste of money...
Does anybody know of a way around this?
    - or is there someone I can sue?!

There is a bug in the installer program that will not allow it to install into a Lion or Mt. Lion Mac.  However FCE 3.5 is a Universal app, which will run on Intel Macs without reference to Rosetta.
Due to its age, there may be some incongruities in this program when run in Lion or Mt. Lion.

How recently did you purchase this program; and did you purchase it new?  Have you been able to get use from this purchase on your previous Mac?

There are two methods to install FCE 3.5 into your Mt. Lion Mac:
    1)  Use Pacifist
    2)  Use Jeremy Johnstone's Terminal method for FCS2, but modified for use with FCE 3.5 (if you are able to figure out those modifications):

  • I have new iMac with Lion installed; can I get a free upgrade for my MacBook Pro?

    Hello
I recently bought a 27" iMac with Lion installed.  Should I be able to download the upgrade for my MacBook Pro without paying.  If so what should I do.  If I go to the App Store I'll end up paying £20.99
    Any help gratefully received
    margaret

    Margaret,
No you will need to purchase the upgrade. However if you own other Macs you want to upgrade once you have purchased Lion then you can upgrade the additional machines. Of course the additional machines must be using the same Apple ID. As long as the additional machine's meet the minimum system requirements listed below you are all set.
    General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • Final Cut Express HD on Intel? When & how?

I bought a Mac mini to play about with, and a few days later bought Final Cut Express HD - the full product reduced to UK £99 at my local John Lewis store. Bargain! I dipped my toes in it and found it very much like Adobe Premiere on the PC, but better obviously.
Within a couple of weeks I decided to take the plunge, sold all my PC kit on Ebay and upgraded to a 20" iMac Intel - the Apple Store did a full refund on my Mac mini, no questions asked. They are such nice people
However, I've since read that Final Cut Express HD won't work on the Intel iMacs, probably not even under Rosetta, and that I'll have to wait until the next feature release for the Intel coded one. There are rumours that this release will be mid-March, which is great, but how will this 'crossgrade' be deployed?
Will it be in the format of a retail boxed upgrade package for existing users making the 'switch-within-the-switch' to Intel-based Macs?
Or perhaps even a free download and/or mailed-out disk for existing users?
Or will it only be sold as a full-priced retail boxed package?
I'm just wondering if it is worth me keeping hold of the version I've got, or trying to sell it on Ebay - I'll probably get what I paid for it, especially as I hadn't registered it with Apple.
Anybody got any inside knowledge on the deployment?
    cheers,
    iMark.
    20" iMac Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I guess I'm lucky in that, after ten years spent under a desk poking around inside boring beige boxes, I've come fresh from the big bad world of Windows PCs straight into the brave new world of Mac Intel. Apart from my minor but very fulfilling diversion with the Mac mini, this is my first ever Apple computer, so I don't come laden down with the expectations for old software.
Right now I'm happy to play with the included apps. And I don't mean the trial of Office 2004. That got dumped straight away
I've hardly looked at Garageband and iWeb, but iMovie is a breeze and great for quick knockups - and the way it integrates with iDVD is a joy... but I am itching to properly get underway with Final Cut Express.
Having said that, I've got all five Myst games in dual PC/Mac format... and I was hoping to be able to carry on playing them but it seems my Intel iMac (that still sounds so wrong!) doesn't like the installs. A shame, I was just getting into End Of Ages when I ebayed my PCs.
But my god... who cares! Just look at this big white thing sitting on my desk in front of me. It's so... beautiful. It's the most beautiful thing I have ever owned, materially speaking. And I can't believe it's mine! Somebody pinch me.
Anyway, if anyone does come up with any answers or any wandering Apple executive happens to toddle along this way and is feeling generous please do post it here.
    Many thanks.

  • Will Final Cut Express work on a Macbook Core Duo

I have a 2006 Macbook 2ghz Core Duo with 2gig of Ram. Will Final Cut Express work on this? Will the integrated graphics card affect performance?

    hey there 12frets,
FCE should run w/out major probs. you should even be able to run a 2nd display up to 23", which would be very handy as the Canvass(playback) window will be rather small on a 13" display.
    FCE System Requirements
A Mac computer with a 1.25GHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, Intel Core Duo, Intel Core 2 Duo, or Intel Xeon processor
For AVCHD: A Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of RAM or more
An AGP or PCI Express graphics card compatible with Quartz Extreme; or an Intel GMA integrated graphics processor in a MacBook or Mac mini computer
Some FxPlug filters are not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors.
A display with 1024-by-768 resolution or higher
    A DVD drive for installation
Mac OS X v10.4.10 or later
    QuickTime 7.2 or later
500MB of disk space to install Final Cut Express and LiveType
Additional 500MB to install LiveType content
    good luck.

  • Final cut express HD versus Adobe premiere pro 1.5

    Hi
Resently I bought a Mac Pro and Final cut express.
In the past I used Premiere Pro 1.5. When my project was finisched i wrote it back to tape as a Microsoft DV avi file. Is it possible to create a Microsoft DV avi file in Final Cut Express ?
I'll aske this because this tape is transported to the studio and imported into Adobe Premiere 6.0.
    thanks in advance
    Tonnie

You'd be better off asking this in the inal Cut Express forum - this one if for Final Cut Pro.
Up one floor and down a corridor, you'll find it.

  • Final Cut Express 2 and a MacBook

I have a MacBook running tiger, and I tried to install an older version of Final Cut Express- version 2.0.2, and it won't let me. It says that I am missing an AGP Graphics Card, which doesn't make sense. Is there any way that I can get this to work? Or do I need to upgrade to a newer version of Express?

actually, it should work. Hit ESC when that message comes up.
FWIW: I can run the program, etc, but after a bit of time, especially when rendering, it starts to toss error messages to the console. Pretty soon (thousands of errors later) it hangs the machine (usually the culprit looks like syslogd taking most of your cpu cycles). Then FCE has to be force-quit and everything is lost.
You should try it though. Maybe my video is just too long or something.

  • Installation skips Final Cut Express upgrade; installs only Soundtrack/LivT

Maybe I'm missing something. I've tried installing FCE HD 3.5 upgrade over the previous version, and then tried uninstalling Final Cut Express 3.1 completely and installing Final Cut Express 3.5 alone, but I can't seem to install it. Even after running disk utility and making sure that I was logged in as Administrator, correctly entering License, then Selecting Destination, the installation type still only lists the SoundTrack package (4.GB) and LiveType (9.7GB) as viable installations. And both installed fine. The Final Cut Express HD package (18.6MB) is grayed out and unavailable.
What's going on? I believe my iMac G4 fits the minimum system requirements. Any suggestions?
    iMac (15 flat-panel)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1GB, 800mhz, 66GB on hard drive available for installation
    iMac (15 flat-panel)   Mac OS X (10.3)

I installed the FCE 3.5 upgrade without unistalling any thing of the 3.0.1 version I had (actually I wasn't sure that was the right approach, and the enclosed booklet wasn't really clear about).
Installation was straightforward; the installation type listed all three programs (FCE, Soundtrack, LiveType) with the "Upgrade" label, and I had to input only the upgrade reg.number.
Probably you should try again a clean reinstall of the 3.0.1 version first and then upgrade.

  • New user of Final Cut Express - recommendation for book, resource, training

I am a new user of Final Cut Express 4. Actually, I'm a new user of Mac too. I mastered Pinnacle on my PC but got fed up with the glitches, freezing etc.
Could use some advice on a good BEGINNER resource.
    Anyone???

Hi and welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Since FCE has a relatively steep learning curve, I would recommend getting one of two training books:
    1. [Final Cut Express 4 Editing Workshop|http://www.amazon.com/Final-Cut-Express-Editing-Workshop/dp/0240810775 /ref=sr12?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240436986&sr=8-2] by Tom Wolsky. This is how I learned the program and I can assure you that it is a comprehensive guide with everything from basic to more advanced techniques. I highly recommend it. Tom is a frequent contributor to this forum, so if you had any questions about a lesson then he'd be here to help you out.
    2. [Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Express 4|http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Pro-Training-Final-Express/dp/0321534670/ref=sr14?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240437118&sr=8-4] by Diana Weynand. Though I can't vouch for it personally, I have heard from many people who were pleased with their experience learning from this book, and I'm sure it is quite good also.
There are also several good sites I've visited with free tutorials that you might like to check out:

  • Buy Final Cut Studio 2 for DVD Studio Pro? Pro & Cons of DVD Studio Pro?

I am thinking of buying Final Cut Studio 2 because it includes the DVD authoring software DVD Studio Pro. iDVD uses automatic settings that are hard if not impossible to alter and so some DVDs are authored with very poor bit rates.
    1. Is it possible to change the bit rate manually in DVD Studio Pro so the best Quality DVD can be authored?
    2. Is is possible to change the audio from PCM (which takes up a lot of DVD space) to AC-3 in DVD Studio Pro, so picture quality is improved?
    3. Is there a way to buy DVD Studio Pro as a separate software package and use it with Final Cut Express?
    4. Generally what other options for DVD authoring with Mac are there besides iDVD and DVD Studio Pro?
    5. Is DVD Studio Pro a good piece of software or are there any particular faults?

    1. Yes, but you would use Compressor for your encoding instead of DVDSP.
    2. DVDSP will only encode to AIFF, Compressor will allow you to encode audio to AC3.
    3. Negative. DVDSP is only available as part of Final Cut Studio 2.
    4. You could try using Roxio Toast.
    5. DVDSP gets the job done for me. I think it works quite well.
For a good explanation of how Compressor and DVDSP workflows work within Final Cut Studio, I'd recommend you take a look at DVD StepByStep
