Final cut express using macbooks

I have just upgraded from a G4 powerbook to a macbook...and I tried to install Final Cut Express 2 without any success.
Is it possible to use this version on a macbook,or can I get an upgrade,or do I have to install an agp graphics file?
I live in Greece and obtaining Apple material is rather tricky...
Thanks in advance.

You can just Esc past the error message about the AGP video card. FCE will run but not quite as well as version 3.5 will.
FCE version 3.5 is the correct version for the Intel-based Macs like your Macbook. I highly recommend that you upgrade to v3.5

I think you're in the wrong forum. This is the LiveType forum. There is no sound in LT.

  • Final Cut Express 2/MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro (purchased in June 2006). I am trying to install Final Cut Express 2, but it says that I need to install an AGP Graphics Card in order to open and use the application. The computer already has a graphics card in it (ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 Graphics Processor I THINK), so I don't know how to proceed. Please help!

Do what Ian says, but it will be very slow, as it is running through Rosetta Emulation, so you should upgrade to FCE 3.5.

  • Final Cut Express On Macbook 13" core duo ?

Im thinking of buying a macbook quite soon, the white 2.0 ghz one with 1gb of ram and 100gb HDD but i was wondering if they can run Final cut express as i do alot of video editing and i want editing on the go with the macbook, but i am unsure whether it will work or not because of the macbooks graphics engine,?????/??
    many thanks, lewis

You need to be really careful with reviews like this. You might want to note that this review only shows rendering and encoding which does not require the graphics processor. It does not elaborate on the MacBook's performance when it comes to actually using Final Cut Pro which does require the graphics processor to peform at a certain level. Notice the lack of comparison with things like FCPs real time effects and the like?

  • Final Cut Express? Macbook?

Yes, I am buying a blackmacbook with 1gig of ram, and a 200gb hard drive in june! now will a black macbook run final cut express? (in like dec. ill updgrade to 2gigs of ram) but does it work? any video tests or reviews? Thanks

The disk that contains your computer’s operating system is called the startup disk or boot disk. In addition to the operating system, the startup disk also stores your applications (such as Final Cut Pro), your application preferences, system settings, and other documents. Since the files on the startup disk are your most critical data, maintaining the startup disk is vital.
Since digital media (especially high data rate video) makes your disks work harder, you should use dedicated disks for capturing and playing back your digital video and other media files. Consider your media disks as storage units that work long, hard hours, while your startup disk keeps your system properly organized. If a disk is going to malfunction, it’s better if your critical data is separate from your replaceable media files.

  • Automating Final Cut Express using AppleScript?

    Hello,
just another question: is it possible to use AppleScript (or something similar) with Final Cut Express?
And if so, where to find a good reference?
I have some DV movies and a for each a csv containing the In and Out Points for the subclips, including their names and comments about the contained action, date, place, light and so on.
At moment I'm doing everything manually, but that's time killing, so I'm looking for how to automate this.
    Thank you.

  • Canon AVCHD to final cut express on macbook. Help.

I just bought a CANON Vixia HE R20 AVCHD camera. I used log and transfer to get the clip onto final cut express 4. But when I add the selection to the queue, an icon comes up under status that says: error: no data. What do I do??

The files have not been converted, they were taken straight off the camera.
And I'm not really sure what you mean by media specifications, because I don't know much about the camera I'm using.
    No, I only have 4.0

  • Best export method of footage from Final Cut Express to DVD?

I'm exporting footage from Final Cut Express using Quicktime Player and then burning the footage to DVD using iDVD.
The end result on DVD has very jagged interlacing (or noise) on objects in motion which aren't present when viewing the footage on FC. I don't think the problem is with iDVD (I assume I'm burning a pristine copy of an already reduced-quality clip).
Are there any changes I can make to the system preferences either on FC or Quicktime Player to reduce or prevent loss of digital information, or can anyone suggest better methods of export from Final Cut Express to DVD?

    Hello
I'm not sure if this is relevant:
    I've been using the Quicktime Conversion settings;
    http://www.locationstudio.net/Settings.jpg
    29.97 Frame Rate
    Highest Quality
    NTSC/PRO
I was under the impression that this was usually best - haven't had any problems with iDVD

  • Exporting HD Video From Final Cut Express HD

When attempting to export HD video from Final Cut Express using "uncompressed" setting, I notice that the output quality seems to be limited to "medium." If no compression is used, wouldn't that imply that the video quality should equal original footage?

All FCE Timelines are using the AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) for HD stuff if you selected the correct Easy Setup before you started your Project.
If you export as a Quicktime Movie then you are getting exactly the same export quality as the Timeline.
The Quicktime Movie can be either Self-Contained or a Reference file. Reference Files are great because they use/reference you exisating captured files on your Scratch Disc, use less space and export fast.
However if you need to play the export somewhere other than your Mac your will require the file to be Self-Contained.
QuickTime Conversion does just that, Converts to whatever you select.

  • Final Cut Express 2 - 10.6 compatible?

I'm looking to get Final Cut Express used. I've found a decent deal on a full FCE 2 install with FCE 4 upgrade. My question is, can I install FCE2 on 10.6?

FCE 2 isn't compatible but FCE 4 is. If you have a legitimate copy of both, you shouldn't need to install version 2. But you will need to enter the serial number from version 2 when prompted during the install process for the upgrade to FCE 4.

  • Final Cut Express Problem with Snow Leopard

When I export my movie from Final Cut Express using Quicktime Conversion settings it is taking up to 10 times as long to export than prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard. I have FCE 4.0.1. Mac OS is 10.6.2. This is the only problem I am having but it's a huge one. I use an external hard drive as the scratch disk with FCE.
Going back and doing a complete clean install of Snow Leopard is not an option. I have too many other programs that would have to be re-installed and no time for all that.
I have removed and re-installed FCE as someone suggested. No difference. FCE works find until export time. I use it for short on location video clips and need fast turnaround.
The movie eventually exports and the exported movie is fine. It's just taking forever. Did not have this problem on previous Mac OS.
I can edit the same video in iMovie and export in a fraction of the time but would prefer to use FCE since it has more options.
I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Frame rate is fixed to 29.97 ot 25 in FCE. What do you plan with 8000 frames/second?
HD1920X1080 is a frame size, what is the CODEC used (like H.264,MPEG2, QT animation, etc)?

  • Final Cut Express "Light Rays" Effect

Might also be called 'Trap Door Effect'.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1FhvN_PUxc
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPuh61ivmyg
It's commonly used in Sony Vegas productions.
One complicated way of doing it in FCE would be to use multiple layers of video, add a Gaussian Blur and increase the zoom on the bottom layer while lowering the Opacity on the top layer, but in order to smoothly animate the rays you'd have to do some rather convoluted things.
Is there a simple way to do this in Final Cut Express (using 3.5 right now, considering upgrading) for both video and text?

I don't believe the "Light Rays" filter included with FCE 4 is the effect you want. It makes the clip look a lot different than the examples you provided. Effects like the one you are looking for need to be created by themselves, and not just applied. Tom's book definitely explains how to do this, but I was unsuccessful as of yet in finding the exact lesson (part of the problem is that I don't know exactly what such an effect was called, so I can't just look it up in the index. It's a 300-something page book, so finding a particular section without remembering its name is a little tricky...)
I will continue to keep my eye out. I believe it has something to do with creating two text tracks, applying some sort of glow to the bottom one, and keyframing its movement. Will let you know when I know for sure.

  • Why is AVCHD distorted in Final Cut Express

I inported AVCHD into Final Cut Express using the recommended HDV Apple Internediate codec but my clips appear way overexposed and pixelated.  They look great when I hook the camera up to a TV though.

Thanks for your help.   I have used HDV for years with good success.  This is my first AVCHD project though.
