Final Cut Express with Youtube

Hi all,
I've been having this really annoying problem ever since I started using final cut to export movie files for Youtube and I can't find anything online to help me out, so hopefully one of you knows the answer!
Basically every time I export a video from FCE and upload it to Youtube, the video only fills a small part of the Youtube screen, rather than taking up the full video box, which looks pretty awful - Check out the example below:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_G7n78FqrPs
Has anyone else had this problem? Or does anyone know the optimum export settings for Youtube so the video takes up the full screen?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Ben

Yes, I know the dimensions of the source video do not match the optimum Youtube dimensions, but this video fits the full screen before I put it into FCE so I must be doing something wrong within FCE which is messing with the video. Here's the properties for the video and the sequence (Last time I right clicked on the file outside of FCE; the properties below are what I got when I right clicked on the file and sequence within the browser)
Video:
Vid rate: 30fps
Frame size: 510x284
Compressor: H.264
Pixel aspect: Square
Field dominance: None
Sequence:
Vid rate: 25fps
Frame size: 720x576
Compressor: DV-PAL
Pixel aspect: PAL-CCIR 601
Field dominance: Lower (even)
Hope you can see something wrong in all that?!
Cheers,
Ben

  • What are the best data and bit rate setting for uploading from final cut express to Youtube?

Can anyone suggest the best data rate and bit rate presets for uploading footage from final cut express 4 to Youtube? What settings will provide the best resolution, quality, and match the current youtube requirements?
Thank you in advance for your help,
    Susan Kayne

It depends on whether you are using aspect ratios of 4:3 or 16:9.
Below is some simple guidance that will provide good quality with reasonably small file sizes.
The first part is for 4:3 video:-
    1. File>Export Using QT Conversion.
    2. The "Format" window should say, "QT Movie".
    3. In "Use" select "LAN/Intranet" from the dropdown menu.
    4. Click "Save" and when it has finished encoding, upload it to YouTube.
If you are making 16:9 video (Standard or High Definition) do steps 1 to 3 above.
Then when you have selected "LAN/Intranet" press the "Options" button and in the new
window that opens press the  "Size"  button and change the  "640x480" to  "853x480"
To do this you will have to click on the  640x480 and a dropdown menu appears.
Select "Custom" from  the bottom of the menu and in the window that opens
    you will see 2 boxes.
Put  853  in the first box and  480  in the second.
    Click OK.
    Then Save it.

  • Using Final Cut Express With Sony DCR-TRV480

    Hello all,
This is a well known newbie problem and i have came across it before with a different camera and do not remember a fix. Whenever i launch Final Cut Express i get the message "Unable to locate the following devices. Apple FireWire NTSC (720x480)". The camera is clearly connected via fire-wire and turned on. Any insight or ideas will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    ~Dan

Do you have any other firewire devices connected to your Mac at the same time your camcorder is connected? If so, try it with only the camcorder connected.
Is your camcorder turned on in VCR (aka VTR) mode?
What versions of FCE and QuickTime are on your Mac?
Your profile says you are running OS X 10.6.3 - is that correct?

  • Can you deploy Final Cut Express with ARD?

    Hi Folks,
I have recently purchased ARD to help administer a suit of iMAC and 6 MAC Book Pros. I have an issue with Final Cut Express 4, in that it requires the licence information on application start up. I originally created an image with all of the software pre-installed and everything works apart from the licencing of FCE. I was hoping that ARD would solve the issue.
I have tried to copy the existing FCE ID file from the ProApps folder from one computer to another – however it must hash the licence with system ID or something else as it still requires the licence info at start up? As suggested in another thread.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12514255#12514255
So is there any way to install FCE 4 without the need to manually enter the product key?
The Mac are running mountain lion and are all intel based.
Any help or info would be very much appreciated.

Yes, I've purchased it for my late 2010 MBA 13.  Runs pretty good.  Since it does what it does, it does run the CPU, fan and temp up a bit, but still ran perfectly fine.
    Cheers!

  • Final Cut Express with Universal Control Surface?

I would like to buy Final Cut Express. I want to use a universal control surface such as the Tascam FW1082 with my editing. I know the FC Pro has control surface compatibility, but does the new FC Express?

Bummer. But, thank you for answering my question.

  • Final Cut Express with iMac G4

I have been using an iMac G4 for several years. It has worked out extremely well for me. I use it for internet browsing and Microsoft Office applications. Now I'm considering getting Final Cut Express.
Will the G4 iMac be able to handle it?

My G4 733 worked great with FCE 2, and would probably run 3.5 just fine for regular DV, not HDV. Right now my G4 Quicksilver 1 GHz is running FCE 3.5 perfectly well, along with LiveType and SoundTrack. In fact I recently went to the local Apple store where they have Final Cut on their newest and latest Macs, and I deliberately made some complex edits in Final Cut on one of their Macs to see how much faster it would render them. I was surprised that it was not much faster than my Quicksilver G4.
Check the hardware requirements for whatever version of FCE you want to run.

  • Installing final cut express with  a disc drive

I have 2 copies of final cut express 4, however my laptop was stolen. I know have a new laptop but it is a mac book pro without a disc drive. How do install my copy of final cut express? I don't want to (and can't afford) to buy it again when I already own 2 copies and all the used software coupons.
Can I download it? where and how?

Get an external DVD drive. Apple sells one:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD564ZM/A/apple-usb-superdrive?fnode=5f
You can probably find something cheaper, if you look around.

  • Final cut express with Lion

I had to replace my Hard Drive on my iMac and had Lion installed then I reinstalled FCE and it  won't work at all. Is it because FCE won't work as a new install with Lion? Do I need to get the new version of Final Cut?

The FCE installer needs Rosetta, which is not part of Lion.  Also, FCE itself is not supported on Lion (FCE was discontinued last June when FinalCutPro-X was released.)
I'd suggest moving on tto Final Cut Pro X.  Yes, it's a whole new learning curve, but there are good resources available including Izzy Video's free Final Cut Pro X tutorial course.

  • Loging and transfering 60fps footage in to Final Cut Express with out it changing it to 29.97fps?

When I "Log and Transfer" my footage to Final Cut and the footage was filmed at 60 frames per second it always changes it to 29.97 frames per second. I need the footage to be 60 fps so it can be in slow motion. But if I start using the clips else where like After Effects CS5 it has the frame rate of 29.97 as I said before. Then my footage is kind a useless regarding the slow motion part.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jakob!

I have been trying for three days to the same thing.
I did get the video content off my camera via imovie 08 but the quality is very poor.
Haven't worked out how to improve the quality yet, I also tried importing the video
via ADVC 110 analog conversion device but that doesn't improve the quality.
I do have Final Cut Pro & MPEG-2 Codec and have been searching for the video in the camera's
hard drive but can not find it.
Can you tell me where Sony told you to find the video files so that I can try & import it to Final Cut Pro.
    Thanks

  • Capture HD video in Final Cut Express with a Sony HDR-FX7

When try to capture a video from my new Sony HDR-FX7 using the HD Format Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 the preview screen never shows the video being captured. In fact the video is never captured. Any suggestions to how set the 'Easy Setup'? When I try to capture with NTSC format the software keeps looking for a timecode that it will never find thus stops within a minute of starting. I would love to capture some video from my new Sony HDR-FX7 but not having much luck tonight. Have any helpful hints?

First, trash your preferences. Setting different incorrect settings and opening the capture window is a good way to corrupt the prefs files. HDV AIV 1080i60 is the only one to use if the camera is correctly set to output HDV.
Please give your full system specifications, what computer, what drives, how everything's connected, what settings are on the media (you really did shoot HDV?), and finally what version of the software, of the OS, and of QuickTime are you using?

  • HDV KGCore crash with Final Cut express 4 NEED HELP

I recently purchased a cannon hv30 hdv camera. This is my first time using High Def footage and I am now working on my first project with it. I have used Final cut express with a hard drive camera for over a year now and have made many projects with little problems. After importing my footage in the 1080i60 easy setup setting (around 63 minutes of footage) I began to add it to the sequence. after adding the first part I added the next imported section of hdv footage. The program then froze for a few seconds and crashed. It did this everytime I added the same clip into the sequence. sometimes the error said that kcgore plugin could be related. I called an apple rep and after getting rid of all 3rd party programs and reinstalling TWICE it still crashes after I recaptured the footage while I am either editing the footage or jsut playing it back. NEED HELP

Thanks I tried it again and it seems to be working but I crashed like once or twice when viewing the footage. But after starting it up again it is working fine it is jsut that the footage has these white flashes in it when playing back sometimes. I am not sure if it is going to crash again or not hopefully it is fixed. I was just using the hdv setting for 1080i60. Im not sure if it was pal or nstc I just used the basic hdv 1080i60 setting. also do you think I should upgrade my ram and memory? Would that help moving it up from a 1 gig to 2 or 4 when working wwith hd footage now?
    thanks again

  • Is the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS worth the money for Final Cut Express?

    Hi,
I'm considering a new iMac 24, but not sure if the speedier on is worth the money.
Currently I use a MacBook Pro 2.2 for Final Cut Express with a 23" cinema (mostly DV, some HD) and that works okay, but won't play back in real time when I composit video.
Anybody know if the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS will help in that area?
    Thanks,
    KC

The speedier video card is great for 3D stuff, but it won't matter a wink for Final Cut Express, which barely makes use of the video card.
Keep in mind that Final Cut is using the CPU, not video card, to perform the editing, decoding, and encoding of the video. The only time the video card comes into play is during playback of the video, and any of the video options available for iMacs will handle that just fine.
When you composite video, the hard-disk throughput will start to come into play. The dinky 5400 RPM disk in your laptop will adversely affect the performance of that.

  • Final Cut Express HD and Camcorder compatibility HELP Ughhhhhhhh!!!!

I just don't get it. Appple has a section that shows which camcorders are compatible with Final Cut HD Express, but there mostly old camcorders and not many HD ones at that. Then you do read some of these review sites on camcorders and they tell you they have been using Final Cut express with such and such a camcorder that is not on the APPLE list!! Whats more frustrating are these long discussions/threads/message boards on the net in terms of whats compatible and what isn't with HD express. Can we have a comprehensive list somewhere. Their's obviusly a huge problem and disconnnect here since there are literally thousands of pages and threads and messages dealing with this, and I'm adding to it. Any help will be appreciatiated. Thank you

    OIC my mistake...
You only wanted a list of the cameras YOU were interested in...
I forgot you (and HD cameras) should be the only importance to Apple.
Yeah forget about alllllllllll the other SD mini-dv cams, etc.
The reason the discussions is flooded with questions is two reasons:
1.) No one knows how to search.
2.) They know they have to ask/answer a question to take part in these discussions here....
Search or browse for existing answers before you ask a question. Someone else may have asked your question — it may save you some time.
