Final Cut express wont open after Lepard Install

I just installed Lepard to my mac and Final cut wont open...its gone dead, I find out the my version of FC express is 3.5.1, I have been having a few different things happen within the last 72 hours of the install,My dock sometimes doesnt respond,I need some adviser on the Final Cut issue, I have work in there and I need to access it...Help,

Final cut 7 wont open after final cut x install OR 3rd party software

I had installed FC x a week ago, did all the steps, even got FCP 7 to open... if I remember correctly. I came back from a short week off and now I cannot get 7 to open. It starts up loading the drivers and then I get the warning sign "Final cut quit unexpectedly" and I can send the report or ignore etc.
I'm not sure if this was an issue from final cut x or if it is because of a driver download I made from sony today. (link below)

Motion 4 opens, DVD studio Pro opens, FC x opens. I tried trashing the prefs and that didn't work
Any other ideas? Do I need to reinstall 7?

Repair permissions in Disk Utility. If FCP continues to crash…
why not trash FCPX and see if FCP7 then launches?
Either way, it won't take very long to download another copy of the new app.
Also – Digital Rebellion's Pro Maintenance Tools has a Crash Analyzer. There is a trial version so you can evaluate.

Final Cut Express not opening, error says final FCE disks are missing.

Hi there,
Recently I got a WD Fire Wire 800 Hard drive for christmas so I could move all of my final cut projects over to the HD.
When I moved my final cut express documents including all of the folders it now says this error.
To preserve the integrity of the data used by final cut express, it is necessary to ensure the existence of the following paths;
- My HDD Chris is missing
Then it gives me the option to reset scratch disks, check again or quit.
So I'm not sure what I do.
Should I simply move back all the folders and documents that I moved to my hard drive (btw I tried this but it still gave the same error message). I have deleted final cut express 4.1 and re installed 4.0 to see if it works but it didn't and has the same error message.
Any tips would be helpful.

You moved the software? You can't do that. That's fatal. The software must be on the system drive as it requires system resources. Move the application called Final Cut Express back into the top level of the Applications folder. Do it move it, rename it, or put it inside a folder.
Do not assign the scratch disk to a folder anywhere. If you want the scratch disk to be on your external drive select the top level of the external drive. FCE will create the folders it needs in that location.

Do you mean move my folder of final cut express that I moved onto my HDD?
If so it's copying the 20GB folder as I speak. Hopefully fixes this frustrating problem..

• Free space on Start-up hard disk
• Encoding
• Brand and type of DVDs used
• Burn speed set
• iDVD BUG
• Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
• Disable Screen and Energy saver
• IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
• Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
• Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
• Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
• NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
Encoding
• I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
• I use Verbatim
• I use DVD-R
Burn speed set
• I set down this to x4 (or x1)
iDVD BUG
• One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
Use of Chapters
• I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
• NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
• No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
Material used to build movie
• video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this e.g. .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
• audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
• photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.

May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving

Final Cut Express wont make make a self contained movie

Until recently I have always been able to export my movies from final cut express HD without any problems. They save as final cut express movie files. Now when I come to export a movie, I click on " make self contained movie" and what I get is a quicktime movie that is split into 3 parts, one named whatever I had told it to save as and the other 2 with the same name but -av1 or -av2 after it. If either of these is deleted the original wont play but they wont open on their own. There is sufficient hard drive space and they are all saved in the same folder. There appears to be a 2GB maximum file size as the first movie is 2 GB the second is 2 GB and the third is whatever is left over. Anything smaller than 4 GB just saves as a 2GB plus whatever is lreft over! They will play if original video clips are deleted so they are independent but wont play if one of the 3 is missing. Please help this is driving me scatty

Is the drive you aresaving to formatted to Mac OS Extended?
Sounds like it could be Mac Standard.
Also check in Prefernces that the file size export limit is not set to 2 gig.

Why final cut express wont read my avi file?

Hi all.
I am currently expreience some problem. Few days ago, i was shooting a video project with my D3s. My D3s shoots in AVI format. yet i dont know why the final cut express and the quick time only able to play and edit the avi file with sound? and wont be able to edit or play the video without the sound. [my d3s have an option which can let me recored the video without sound]

There is a bit of confusing about this.
• .avi - is a container - not a codec and can contain old .avi with codecs as Indeo 5 - and this needs to be converted
to be used in any iMovie or FinalCut (as I understands it)
• I think Flip4Mac is the program to buy and use.
Howto find out what Codec - If Your .avi movie opens in QuickTime Player - then open Movie inspector and read it.

Final cut express not opening

everytime i try to open final cut express, i get a message saying that the graphics card is missing. i thought all makes came with graphic cards. could my program be to out of date to use?

Deleting the preferences should not require you to re-register. Did you delete them correctly?

After you trash the preferences launch the application not a project. Where exactly in the launch sequence does it fail?

Can you install final cut express 4.0 on multiple mac's?

I installed FCE on my Macbook and my iMac but when they are open at the same time and I'm connected to the internet the last one to open says I have to quit because of a"Protection Error".
Is there a way around this so I can work on two projects at the same time???

Final Cut Express Not Opening File

Hullo,
I bought Final Cut Express last weekend, and received it in the mail on Tuesday. I began using that night. When the night was through, I saved my project and shut my computer down. The next morning, I got up to go back to work on the project. When I opened the project file, Final Cut Express launched succesfully. However an error message popped up stating
"The project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut."
I then closed out of that, and created another file with just one of the QuickTime sample files, I ran several edits on it, saved it, and quit. When I reopened it, it worked. So I restarted working on the first project. When I was done for the night, I saved it, and quit. I then just went to reopen it to make sure it worked, but it didn't. It brought up the same error message.
Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much. I went in search of the Final Cut Express .PList, but it wasn't anywhere to be found on my computer. I had thought I had re updated everything recently, but apparently not. Final Cut Express 4.0.1 was one of the options. So I installed it and restarted my computer and launched my project file. It opened up the way it was supposed to, but it came up with a message that said that the project was from an older version and needed to be and could be updated to the new version. I did just that and now it works like a charm.

Where are you saving your transferred footage to?

Help! Final Cut Pro wont Open, I tried to un install and re install but it still didnt work!

I have a Final Cut Pro Express from 2006 and all was working fine untill i got an external hard drive and moved most of my projects over there. i tried moving them back to no avail and tried uninstalling and reinstalling final cut and it didnt work! Anyone have any advice on what I can do???

I disagree an uninstall-install is going to do anything for you. "Won't work" and "to no avail" don't help us speculate on what's wrong with your system. Moving projects should not have caused any issues at all so what you probably really mean is that you moved your media or maybe moved your ssytem or the apps folder or you tried to move FCP. All really bad ideas.

Final Cut express wont instal on mac book pro

I bought a Mac book pro last night and today I attempted loading the FCE 2.0 and then using the upgrade version FCE HD4 and It told me my HD 4 version had an invalid serial number (it works fine on my imac 24 in) And so I figured I would just look at the FCE 2.0 and open it up. It wont open and it gives me a error message RGP ERROR. You do not have a graphics card or sufficient software to run this program....
Have no clue Tried rebooting.. I will call apple in the AM. I told the guys at the store that I was using FCE 2.0 and no one said that It wouldn't work...
Any similar issues with anyone else?

There is no need to install FCE2.
Just install the FCE4 upgrade as it is actually a Full Retail version with one tiny difference ....... you will have to input both the old and the new serial numbers.
Make sure you get the numbers exactly right or they won't work.
Before reinstalling you should remove every trace of the existing installations by deleting the files listed here:-

You can ignore the LiveType and Soundtrack items.
